So I swear that Adam Levine from Maroon 5 was walking out when I first got here.

Broome St. is an artists bar that enchats you with every experience. The drinks are good and the crowd is better.

Only thing that doesn't make this place a 5-Star is that there is usually only 1 bartender on staff which can get a little dodgy with the speed of pace.

    Check it out.

    Pros:

    - the friggin prices are super friendly!!!!
    - ordered 2 top shelf highballs for like 11 bucks
    - saw a buncha people ordering fries. i didn't order them, but i guess they are good?
    - bartenders are really friendly and attentive

    cons:
    - restrooms are on the dirtier side for a dive bar.
    - restroom ceilings are super low.  this 6'3'' guy had to tilt his head to take a piss. lol

    CHEERS!

Stopped in here Friday night before heading to dinner.  We had some time to kill and I spotted the Brooklyn Lager sign like a hawk from down the street so we naturally made our way over in its direction.  There aren't really many options in the area, so this worked out just fine.  They had an interesting beer selection by the bottle which I should have tried but stuck with my good and trusty Delirium (love my pink elephants).  My guy had a Guinness and then switched to Delirium because he didn't want to get full before dinner.

Service was decent, though the bartenders were distracted by each other a bit it seemed.  Lots of families with little kids eating.  It seemed like a pretty solid place to get a burger or comfort food.  The atmosphere was really laid back and it had a bit of a historic feel to it.

Broome Street Bar is one of the few standing venues in the Soho neighborhood that still holds old New York appeal. The space has been a bar since the early 20th century, and doesn't try to hide that history in it's appearance. BSB is a small, two room restaurant with a bar counter top, small kitchen in the front and more seating in the back. It's location, right on the corner of W. Broadway and Broome St., make it the perfect spot for people watching on a busy weekend afternoon.

I live in the neighborhood and always find myself here grabbing a bite or a drink because the prices are pretty fair considering it's location. The beer list is pretty extensive both draft and bottled. The food menu consists of typical bar style food with a bit of a gourmet twist. Service is hit or miss but it depends on how busy the restaurant is, don't expect 5 star service.

For what it is, the Broome Street Bar is a place I would definitely recommend for some cheap eats, cool atmosphere, and plenty of beer. You may even spot a celebrity or two...and I once heard that the backroom is haunted.

This is going to be short and sweet.

This is a great bar with a fantastic corner location to see all the entertainment streaming live out in the streets.

I stop here every time I am in Soho. Guys, it's a great place to escape the endless shopping. Grab a stellar pint of Guinness, and take a load off.

Great old time NYC tavern vibe. No frills. Decent bar food, and a pretty popular brunch. Never overly packed though.

Saddle up to the bar, and enjoy.

I have been coming to this bar forever and have never been disappointed! Perfect pub food and cheap prices!

I love that their burgers are served in a pita instead of a bun with salad on the side. Their chili tastes as though its been slow cooking for hours. Their nachos are addicting as well.

I am not a huge beer drinker, but their beer list is impressive!

Great service. Its the perfect neighborhood spot with comforting foods.

This is one of those places you go to get some beers, and some chilly.  The burgers are also awesome, the place itself is dark, so save it for a rainy day, but the staff is bright and cheerful and watching the kitchen prepare food is always something I like to do.  Its very reasonably priced and the bartender is very generous with the pouring.
I have been there dozens of times with different people and no one has been disappointed

My parents used to come here when my father was in Medical School in Long Island, so growing up (from Ohio) I used to always hear stories about their date nights here.

We would visit family twice a year in NY, and every time, would either eat at, or pass Broome St. Bar.  I've been here a few times over the past few months, and I love the eclectic crowd.  There was even a 3 piece band with a tuba, sax, and drums (a little raunchy), but perfect for the ambiance of this place.

The burgers are awesome:  I always get blue cheese on mine, and the juices flow through the pita.  Also, the salad dressing they use is AMAZING (it's probably just an oil and red wine vinegar blend, but I love it).

Good food, okay beer choices, slow-ass service. That's the gist of this place.

I was there for the third time on a Tuesday (Dec. 27) at about 7. The bar area and seats around it were full, as they usually are, but the back room had open spots. This is a cozy place on a cold night. There isn't a fireplace, but the bar is somewhat old-fashioned and has a warm feeling to it.

The beer choices are just okay because the only interesting ones they have are Belgium beers that cost $9 and more. I stuck with a Brooklyn lager, which literally took 10 minutes to get once we sat down. I'm sure our waiter was busy, but it's not like the place was packed. Since the bartender has the people sitting at the bar taken care of, our waiter and the other one on the floor shouldn't have been so overwhelmed that taking a beer order could take 10 minutes.

The food was money, though. I hadn't eaten there before, so I went for the basic - bacon burger. This was a decent-sized patty (8 oz.?), with a beefeater tomato, a white onion and a lot of bacon stuffed into a pita. The pita replacement for buns is kind of genius. It goes so well with the bacon, and is certainly a lighter alternative. But I still have a few gripes.

The place offers an option of a salad or potato chips (Ruffles, I think). No fries. Who doesn't serve fries with a burger? This spot, which offers the fries separately as a side dish in small/large bowls for $3.50 and $5.50, respectively. And the large basket isn't huge. The fries themselves are quite large, so the large basket can be easily finished by two people. So, one person would essentially pay an extra $3.50 just for a side of fries to a bacon burger, which costs $10. That's a sneaky way for Broome to add extra expense. (The fries are pretty great, though.)

Great laid back, casual, and warm bar atmosphere with decent food as well as a good mix of patrons despite it's soho location.

Cup of cream of mushroom soup and a hot pastrami and swiss on Rye, hot apple cider with brandy - good remedy to a cold night.

Service was friendly. Good for groups. Nice place to catch up with a friend. Food took a while to come out and my sandwich was cold by then, but overall a solid hang out.

I visited Broome Street Bar for the first time last night. I wasn't too excited at first because I always assume mixing a restaurant with a bar seems like a bad/gross idea. However when I walked in it looked like a decently clean place with the kind of clientele that bathes daily.

I had to laugh when one of the bus boys seated us and lackadaisically slapped the beer menu on the table but it was more funny than rude.

We both ordered the hot pastrami with swiss cheese on rye and a small side salad. I hadn't had a hot pastrami sandwich in years as I've just started eating meat again 3 months ago. I was greatly looking forward to it and it didn't disappoint. I was happy to see many layers of pastrami with the melted swiss cheese on top. I can't believe I almost forgot to add the spicy brown mustard (or at least I think it was that). It was delicious.

I wasn't expecting much from the small side salad but it was so good! The lettuce (might have been romaine) looked fresh and there were a few small mushrooms in it. The dressing was simple but had a lot of flavor and the right amount of saltiness--but I do like my dressings on the salty side. I would have lifted up the small bowl and drank the rest of it if I weren't in public.

Service was timely and our waitress was friendly. Thankfully it wasn't that loud at all inside so I could have a conversation without yelling across the table.

The prices are very reasonable especially for being located in SoHo.

I will definitely be returning in the near future to try their burgers and desserts!

    pretty good food for lunch.

Some of us tried their burger - which come in pitta bread. Everyone said it was great.

I had half soup and half sandwich deal. I had spicy Italian sausage and vegetable soup with turkey BLT. Soup was really really really good. turkey BLT was also decent.

I am glad I tried this place for food - I can come back with friends for drink later.

They had all kinds of wine lines on the wall as well.
    definitely a go place.

Run-of-the-mill bar. I do like the woodsy interiors and the windows all around. Other than that, decent beer selection, woeful wine options, good grub. If you're looking for shock & awe you're in the wrong place, but if you're looking for a solid spot to unwind after a day of frenzied SoHo shopping, this could do the trick.

Came here, asked if they had any cask ale, was told "no, but we have *Indian Pale* ale". That's sort of like me saying "hey, do you have any fat-free yogurt?" and getting a response of "no but we have blueberry yogurt."

Moving on, I asked for 3 philosophers, which was on the menu, and they said "sorry we are out." My girlfriend asked for "Dogshead pumpkin ale" and got the same response. The waitress looked at us and said "it was a busy weekend" in non-contrite, almost resentful manner. It was Sunday afternoon. i guess that makes sense, but the waitress certainly wasn't helping. I ended up going with old standby Delerium Tremens, while my girlfriend got herself some Brooklyn Lager.

In a city with so much great food, Broome Street Bar is just another dank place serving burgers and beer.

We stopped at Broome Street Bar on a Sunday afternoon after glancing at the menu outside. We had already been seated and gotten drinks when we realized the soups and chilis we were most interested in ordering would be off the menu for another 90mn for some reason. Disappointed by the menu, we both settled for hamburgers. They came with a salad or potato chips. I selected the salad and ordered a side of fries while the Mister stayed with potato chips.

The hamburgers were served in pitas, which may have been a healthier option, but not one prepared to stand up to reality. The burgers quickly soaked the pitas, which fell apart half heartedly a third of the way through consumption. The fries appeared to be house-made and had promise, but were undercooked. The salad was iceberg lettuce, a few cucumbers and some dressing, nothing inspired.

Service started off strong, but soon slid into invisible and I spent the second half of the meal waiting in vain for my glass to be refilled.

There are so many better places to go for a meal. Keep walkin'.

SoHo was pretty quiet besides this bar. They were showing the Grammy's on their little tv with barely any sound. Good to know they care about that kind of stuff.

They have my favorite Lambic Framboise, but a little pricer than other places I've found it. (11.50)

Also Dogfish IPA 90min on tap.

My boyfriend and I needed to grab a quick bite to eat during half-time of the Laker game... so we walked to Broome Street Bar to get a couple of sandwiches.

Tuna Melt - decent, i've had better
Pastrami - i don't know if it was a screw up but all it was, was 2 slices of bread and pastrami.  no mustard, pickles, nothing.  that was just weird.
Fries - Gross.  soggy and flavorless.

cool place to hang out and have a couple of drinks though...

I used to meet up with a particular ex when we'd have dates with other people gone sour.  We'd have late night french fries and talk about old times, current times, and I'd usually end up crying at some point.

So late night secret meetups with Mr. X basically stopped.  But the fries here will forever be gross and bland.

The ambiance was and is divey and fine.  Just not for me.

This is no generic dive bar. It's one of the oldest bars in the neighborhood. Old building, worn wooden floors, iron hardware on the windows...pink bathrooms, really old school european looking faucets..
Scary brass faces on the girl's bathroom door, some old greco-roman design or whatnot but i guess thats part of the charm of this restaurant.

    I love it.

This place has character! There is a long black chalkboard that wraps around the inner room, which is a small room two steps up from the main room (bar) and has little square tables for dining. You've got great thick hamburgers and sandwiches on crispy pita. i got the special- grilled chicken breast with mango sauce, a bit on the spicy side but wonderfully filling and just what i needed after a long day at javitz.. =P

In fact the cool looking chalkboard menu walls are the primary inspiration of my newest product!! ( It's a secret...until we start retailing..hehe)

Definitely not a 'may i check your coat madam?' place, but i like the rowdy guys in the front and the noisy laid back environment. Reminds me of guys watching rugby. I don't know why.

Great atmosphere, somewhere you would go after work for a pint.

I really want to like this bar. Its one of the few in the area that doesn't have infused this and macerated that. Plain up drinks and good beer selection. In fact when I am in town and in Soho I seek this place out to cleanse the palate of all things over-designed.

After being seated way in the back for dinner and drinks our server comes back and brusquely takes the order and never comes back, three beers, three glasses of water, and three burgers...20 minutes pass and the burgers arrive but still no beer. Finally a bar hand approaches and see that we have no drinks and goes to retrieve them

Finished our beers and why we decide to stay for more but we do but wait....she is no where to be found to take our orders until 10 minutes later and by this point we are moving on. So we ask for a check and again she disappears and finally comes back after another 10 minutes. $56 tab, so we leave her $60. I haven't done that in decades but no apology nor acknowledgment. She must have been trained at the only other bar similar in service Coop's Place in New Orleans.  You cant miss her as she had the eye patch and wears leather pants.

I really wish that I could give this place more than three stars. I LOVE dive bars and in the middle of Soho it's just such a shame.  Great place to kick back, relax and enjoy a beer.

The food though seems questionable. Maybe I'll find something good on the menu someday.  The french fries here are not worth ordering a second time.  I have seen tables full of people pick at them and have a few but they never finish the basket.  They are long wedges that are usually undercooked. Stopped ordering them a while ago. Wish they would change the ones that they have now to something better.

I have to giggle that this is listed as a Dive Bar. Really? Oh Soho you wouldn't know a Dive Bar unless Gucci paraded one around in Bryant park. Dive Bar = juke box, patrons drinking alone mid-day, $2 drinks. There are no fresh flowers in dive bars. You want a Dive? Go down the street to Nancy Whiskey. I will agree, however, with the "American, Traditional" tags.

I said to my boss that I feel like this was some sort of tavern for American Revolution military officers. It has a classy, aging vibe and you can do some classy aging while waiting for your food. It's definitely not a fast lunch. Nor will you necessarily get what you order on the first try. But our server seemed like he meant well, and all things considered, managed to get everything correctly on the table in the long run. Considering the locale, it could definitely be worse. He could be a so-so waiter *and* have a snotty attitude.

Burgers are served up on pita here, and while I'm not totally against the concept (and the burger itself was good) it's just not working. Burgers, if done correctly, are greasy. (And they're definitely greasy here) Buns exist to soak up that grease and keep your hands relatively unscathed. Pita just doesn't have the absorbent properties of say, a real, good potato roll. 20 minutes after eating here, I still feel like I need to wash my face. I had grease literally running down to my elbow while I ate. Not exactly a classy business lunch. Those 8 ounces of medium rare beef and think slab of cheddar went down mighty fine though, and if they'd be willing to follow it up with a wet nap I'd bump them up to a fourth star.

$9ish for a big burger isn't bad in this part of town either. Nicely done. They only take Mastercard and Visa though, no Amex, so business lunch won't be here again anytime soon.

Their drinks weren't so bad and so we kept at it for a bit. Finally some music came on. And then other people came in too. And then we left for some bars closer to NYU.

I recently was fortunate enough to be able to travel to NYC for the day and I stopped by Broome St. Bar for Lunch. As soon as I walked in, I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed.

I quickly grabbed a seat at the bar, grabbed an ice cold Brooklyn Brewery Lager and ordered a cheese burger and chips.

The burger was different than any burger I have had before as it was a served in a pita pocket instead of on a bun. No worries though as the burger was good.

The bar tender (I think his name was Mike) was outgoing and helpful with directions.

I recommend this place to anyway looking for a relaxing place to grab a beer and a burger.

This place reminds me of Fanelli's with fewer tourists. There's a bar to the side with a few tables up front. Then there's a larger dining room up a few steps in back. The decent beer selection is in the slightly pricey range, ($7 to $9) but not outrageous. There are a lot of office-style collar work shirts. Few t-shirts and fewer ties.

I can't vouch for much of the food. I had the sardine salad plate, and it was pretty good. Not spectacular, but filling enough for $10. The main drawback (but for those IN, it's a plus) seems to be an extreme cliquishness. If you're a regular, or with a group, you'll get along fine. But don't expect anyone (including the waitstaff) to come over and say "hi, how're you doin' tonight?" They don't care.  --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NY Drinkers

In all honesty I used to hate this place. We came here for lunch one day and the food was awful. However, I came here for a few drinks and it grew on me.

We ordered a Pigwich sandwich ($8.50) - which was AHHHHmazing. The cheesy melted goodness was awesome and perfect with a cold beer. There's sitting room if you're looking for a crowd to gather and lounge.

A few drawbacks - the bartender was kind of rude and in no mood to serve anyone anything. When we stepped out for a smoke we came back and our food was gone - he removed the plate with still half the sandwich on it. Another drawback - seems to be a gathering spot for douchies - not full douchebags but people quickly on their way there.

Extremely divvy bar but it has character, and the old Soho look.  I come here exclusively for the charcoaled grilled burgers sandwiched in
Pita bread, with whatever stuffing you like (ie, cheese, bacon, lettuce, ketchup, mayo, etc.)... and yes they can cook them perfectly medium rare for you.   It's the fresh charcoaled grilled flavor with great ground beef, using pita bread instead that makes this burger rock!
They have good mud pie and other sometimes fresh desserts.   Drinks are reasonable, and a small sports crowd comes in to watch games on the TV.    Nice place just to hang and have your afternoon
    burger.

This place is not a dive bar.  At least not what I consider to be a dive bar - gross bathrooms, faint smell of urine/vomit, cheap drinks, etc...  This place actually has a decent menu with several options.

I had a burger with bacon and bleu cheese. I ordered it medium-rare, but it was definitely served medium.  It comes in a pita which makes it  REALLY difficult to put ketchup on and to eat.  I agree with a previous commenter that the bun is supposed to soak up the burger grease, here the grease just runs down your hands.  Do not order this if you're on a date or wearing something nice.  Other than not being medium-rare the burger was decent, but certainly nothing earth shattering.

My friend had the Chinese tofu salad.  She said the tofu on top was pretty good but that everything else was awful and the baby corn had gone sour.  We also split a basket of fries which were actually pretty good.

The drinks here are not crazy expensive, but certainly are not dive bar prices.  Most good beers are slightly under $10.  I don't think I would make a point of coming back, but I'm not opposed to it either.

Popped in for a quick Saturday lunch. Waitstaff was fast, and the food FLEW out of the kitchen. I had a burger for dinner the night before, so I skipped it. After reading other Yelpers reviews, that's too bad. I'm down for a burger in a pita!

They had a decent number of beers on tap, and I was happy to enjoy a Harpoon Summer Beer! Not sure If I'd come back for the eats alone, but I'd stop in for a brew if I'm in the area.

This is your generic dive bar which is oddly located in SoHo. The pints are over priced for the unimpressive selction of beers (if i wanted a crap dive bar with a better beer selection I might as well go to pour house.) 8 bucks/pint for a brooklyn lager and it tasted like...i don't even know, bad.

After my friend and I finished our beers the bartender (without knowing whether we'd order more) pointed at my guy friend, said "18" and a couple minutes later kept nodding at my friend to get him to pay. Why? There were 30 other people in the bar but somehow he wanted us to pay up. Strange.

Place had no a/c and shitty music too. BOO.

I call this place Broome Street Bar and Grille.  i love this place.
Once upon a time in New York I couldn't settle on a place to eat so I walked and walked and gave up or so i thought by going to this place for breakfast.  New York was still asleep but this place was not busy at all--it was a come as you are bar restaurant.  i truly enjoyed my meal here--wasn't this in a Visa commercial?

    Buen Provecho!
