Reese's Retreat is the most amazing park for kids I have ever seen. This pirate themed gem is located behind the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center which is near the Children's Museum. Why isn't this place on the map???
Here is more info about it.

Brookside Park is a nice park with great playground and picnic area space... and great views of the mountains but boy do they make it difficult to reserve a space there!!
I've had an event every year there since 2009 - our event is an informal memorial run with a post-run picnic (the person we honor holds significance with the Rose Bowl so that's why we initially chose Brookside) but let me tell you, we've come across one problem after the next with the reservations desk.
I advise anyone reserving a space for a birthday party or picnic, etc. to reserve at least 1 year in advance and ASK specific questions about what the area looks like and provides because their online map and pictures are outdated. One year we reserved an area that was later told to me was the "dog area" - I wasn't afraid of the dogs but beware the dog trainer herself! She was quite rude to me and made us move our picnic of 40 people to the smaller area adjacent because she uses the picnic tables as part of her dog training class, really?? I love dogs, but picnic tables aren't meant for that!
Anyway, it's a great space but the reservations department really makes planning for a small event so much more difficult than it needs to be. I'm not sure if it's because they are accustomed to working with larger non-profit walks and maybe that is the kind of business they'd rather have but it would be wise for them to be more accommodating to the smaller groups and especially since we have been repeat business for them the last three consecutive years, going on four. I'm an event planner and not recommend this site even to the larger non-profits because there is so much foot traffic there that it poses a difficulty in being able to utilize the entire space as I know is desired for a fundraising walk (I used to work for a large one!). Anyway I'm pretty sure this will be the last year we host our event at Brookside, regardless of the significance the Rose Bowl holds to our group. -

Brookside Park has a lot to offer...I've played softball here, visited the Kidspace museum, gone to numerous festivals as well. But the best part is the hidden gem behind the aquatic center. There is a large playground called Reese's retreat.
This is the coolest playground. My kids beg to go to "Pirate Park" all the time. The play structure is huge and built like a big pirate ship. There are slides, planks to walk, periscopes, chain ladders, cannons, lots of sea creatures to ride, a "shake area," two swing sets and a place to build sand castles and have a little water play. All in all, this is one of the best playgrounds I've been to.
If you get a chance, take a walk around the rose bowl after to get some exercise or have a picnic lunch on one of the numerous tables. -

Reese's Retreat is fantastic! We love this park and it's nice they made it friendly for handicapped children. The only thing we don't like is that it gets too crowded, especially on Saturdays.

You get to have the Rose Bowl as a back drop. Not sure what other highlights to give it. The Rose Bowl! It's a park! Though be aware that Thursday nights there is a coed adult softball league on the fields. Friday nights there is an adult coed kickball league. Go check out the awesome lack of athleticism that are kickballers.

Great park! Situated right next to Kidspace so it's a great thing to do before or after the museum as well. There is a field for either softball or baseball (couldnt tell) next to the play area but not super close. (but I'd still be observant for really hard hitters that are good at foul balls).
There's also a very decent sized grassy area that seems dedicated for soccer.
This place is clean and well maintained. The structures are newer and not just the typical things.
This place get H-O-T though. Bring lots of water! -

One of the best parks in LA!
Now, I'm not reviewing the tennis, softball fields, swimming, kid's museum or any of the other cool stuff they have all right here in this area, but am only reviewing the PLAYGROUNDS and areas around.
Driving past the Rosebowl, you may get a brief glimpse that there is a park hidden at the end of the ridiculously huge parking lot. But even if you find that one, did you know there are a total of THREE different playgrounds??? There are two that you can see from the parking lot - one for toddlers ages 2-4, and another for children 5-12. The parks are nice, but nothing special... however, if you follow the path around and to the back of the aquatics center, what a great surprise! The best playground I have ever seen! It made me want to be a kid again and play. I actually got all excited and started running around looking at all the things it had.
It's a giant pirate ship and sea theme. The sidewalks look like planks and have sea creatures embedded in the super squishy floor. On the main ship (play area) they have lots of learning activities - music, bells, telescopes, periscopes, and I didn't see everything.... How fun to be able to slide down from the ship!
Off the main boat there's a sway ride, spin ride, and a "wrecked" boat with water play. The wrecked boat and treasure chest have a water stream that sends water to a sandy area where kids can dig with pails and shovels, build sand castles, or just stomp their feet in the wet pool. In that area, there's a sea monster... so watch out!
There are also picnic tables and swings. The swings are so smooth! I felt like a kid again. And if I had a kid of my own, I'd bring them here.
While my friend's son was playing, I explored the hiking trails and cool steps into the hillside. I'd love to do a BBQ here. Looks like an awesome place to hang out with friends and family for an all day affair. Lots of room and fairly secluded.
Watch your footing - lots of squirrel holes. Lots of squirrels! -

REVIEW OF THE SOFTBALL FIELDS.
I can't imagine a nice city with pretty crappy softball fields. Pasadena for one has pretty crappy softball diamonds/fields.
You tend to rate fields by their grass and lighting and if they fields are actually just plain dust bowls.
Jefferson Park down the street..FAIL.
Brookside softball fields, a step above Jefferson...semi-fail.
Brookside Park has plenty and plenty of parking and 2 softball fields. But those fields suck too. Very poor night lights that glow yellow like the old school street lighting, the light poles in the outfield are damn located in RCF and LF where players can actually run into them. The fields are bumpy and dirt filled. The infield is a dust bowl too.
Restrooms are dirty. Pasadena fields can't compare to the fields in Glendale....period. -

So Sam decided to cheat on this and got the FTR, whatever kid!
I love this park. One of the best. Nice view. Come in the evenings when the sun is setting down, it's really nice. Just like in the pictures you see in magazines or ads on tv. Especially right before sunset, the couples love to get their freak on, i think.
Naturally, this is one of the first places I think of for pick up games or practises. This used to be weekly meet points for team practises. You got lots of parking spaces and lots of fields to choose on. Many come for baseball and soccer. Many take their kids for daily family fun activites.
Why i love this place? They got good competition in the evenings. You got players from everywhere like Spain, Portugal, Kenya, Turkey and other European places. Different challenges keep you on your toes and improve your game. Besides, it's all about the fun. Football gets different nationalities come together and mesh as one.
Football is love. -

I am blessed to be living in Southern California.
On such a beautiful sunny day, some of the boys wanted to go to the park and play some football. I quickly agreed and my cousin picks me up and we are on our way.
Brookside Park is located right by the Rosebowl. Upon arriving, you will see people running, walking, biking, walking their dogs.
At the park, there were kids playing with the swings, parents taking their kids out on strollers, and little league baseball games.
Gigantic trees, birds chirping, squirrels running around, this is what natures all about.
Now, take a deep breathe and enjoy mother nature and its surroundings. Absolutely lovely.Listed in: How to break a sweat.

My fav place to do it all....blading, walking, a little hiking and tennis....they have many Tennis clinics going on though so you have to time it just right.....great courts....in good condition...clean...but you do have to miss the clinic crowd of kids learning the sport.....so some times we head on out to cal tech.....which is actually closer to home for me but this one closer to the freeway so my partners have easier access....
Beautiful place to do it all..... -

The Good: This place is huge, free parking, and swings...ah the swings. The area is well kept and easy to get to. It's a park...so if you seen one I think you know what I'm talking about.
The Bad: This park is great, but the only complaint would be some random dog deuce, but hey it's a park.
The Ben: I guess this is the official home of Sam's AYEs. -

5 stars all around. I went here for the 11th annual wiggle waggle walk. There is just an abundant amount of space for people to run, dogs to pee, and room for a wicked game of Ultimate Frisbee. The best part about parks is they're free. In this day in age, free is as good as it gets.
If I lived in Pasadena, I would frequent this place for picnics, exercise, and just to relax. It's beautiful here. Since I live way too far away I'll have to settle for 12th annual wiggle walk. -
