A great Jersey diner with a genuinely friendly and helpful wait staff. I have visited the Brookside Diner a few times on my visit to the Parsippany area, and have had both lunch and dinner there. On each visit the staff has always been helpful, and neither pushy nor absent. The food has been quite good, and always in portions larger than an average person could consume. The prices are a little on the high side compared with other places, but the attentive staff and quick service are worth it..
After reading other Yelpers reviews I tried the salmon picatta on my most recent visit, and quite enjoyed it. My only complaint is that there were too few capers and the sauce could have used just a tad more lemon.
The ever-present owner made the rounds several times during my weekend visit trying to make sure everything was ok, but his abruptness and broken english made his attempts at being helpful somewhat hard to understand. The other wait staff were a bit more relaxed and far more comprehendable. -

Typical Jersey diner. The food is good and so is the atmosphere. The menu has a wide variety and the staff is friendly.

C'mon, we all secretly go here to see which old high school classmates became heroin addicts or morbidly obese.
I agree with the former review that the prices are pretty steep for mediocre, adequate food. Just that description alone defines the entire suburban town in which its located (Whippany: Paying a Lot for Plain Mediocracy). The diner is definitely a local townie hangout, and I go there soley to meet up with old high school friends, gossip, and have a burger or coffee (the coffee IS good, though). I don't think anyone goes there for the food. It's an established cornerstone of Whippany and there will always be a place for it in my little jersey-heart (hence the three stars)... but I wouldn't bring an out-of-towner here for a meal. The Morristown Diner and Parsippany Diner on Rt.46 has much better food at reasonable prices. -

A typical, decent NJ diner. I had the steak and eggs. The steak was a perfectly cooked strip. The eggs were closer to over medium than over easy but still OK. Someone at the next table got Belgian waffles and they looked amazing. I'd recommend this place for breakfast anytime.

"They make a good fish," says my mom and since it's starting to get warmer out and I'm wanting to eat lighter foods, we head over for dinner. My past experience here were mainly late nights with friends, but this was a first for a real dinner.
They indeed make a good fish. We got the scrod in a lemon butter sauce over pasta and pan fried calf's liver with fried onions because I was curious. Who gets curious about liver, you might ask? Apparently I do, and to be honest, it's not half bad. i probably wouldn't go out and cook it for myself, but I might order it every now and again. The scrod was perfectly cooked and even though I thought the lemon sauce could have used a bit more lemon, the portion was HUGE and satisfying. Both meals came with salad and dessert. We ended up with the flan, which isn't really creamy, but not quite like jello and the 7 layer cake which I thought was waaaay too sweet--something to do with the gooey chocolate pudding type stuff in between the layers. Otherwise the cake itself was quite good. -

Yup. Once again, the Yelpers got it right. I recently spent 10 weeks on assignment nearby and came here for lunch and dinner a couple of times. I grew up on Jersey diners and thought I had a good find here. As the rating says, "Meh." Okay, they have food. Lots of it. If you need to eat something that will at least let you say, "yeah, I ate" for not too much dough, sure, drop by. Don't make it a destination, though. I never did find a great diner in the area. Must be too ritzy of an area for a good greasy spoon.
A side note - I once ate here with two co-workers and they yelled at us when we plunked down three credit cards against one bill. "What, you can't use that little calculator next to the register? Sheez." -

Indeed, unless we're talking about a perpetually full cup of coffee and a cheesecake whose silken bod' rivals a well-oiled Giselle, the attraction of the Brookside diner has nothing to do with the food. What the Brookside diner IS about is the waitress with violent blue eye shadow and a Jersey accent so thick it could wax my legs: the one who has survived two teenage pregnancies, a heroine addiction and the 80s emerging with a watermelon lipstick smile and an undying devotion to both her and my caffeine levels. So in celebration of that gritty little town I grew up in, I will pick at some 7$ cheese fries, my satisfaction residing in knowing that the boy who turned me down in middle school still sits there pondering whether he could pass his GED.

This was my first time going to the Brookside Diner. I went just before the weekday lunch rush and the service was top notch and the food was excellent. I went with my parents who are the king and queen of confusion and the waiter understood all of thier requests and got everything right. The Restaurant was also very clean and the restrooms were immaculate. I work around the corner and am often looking for places to take client's for lunch. I will consider this in the future since there is so much to choose. I wanted to try the desserts since they looked yummy.

Well, Morristown Diner is so atrocious that I need to venture out to find a nearby diner that does not suck. I kept it simple, ham & cheese omelet, home fries, and OJ. The food did not disappoint and the waitress was attentive. This place is definitely in the rotation from now on.
