I stopped in here to get a button replaced with a co-worker one day for a suit.  The gentlemen were very helpful to us.  Unfortunately they don't really cater to women in that particular store location but the perfumes they had smelled sooo good and I want to get one of them.

    Soon!

This is quite simply a terrible Brooks Brothers due to incredibly poor service and very limited inventory.

I've been three times, and each time left awestruck, dumbfounded, and utterly annoyed.

I live less than 2 blocks away, so you can imagine how disappointing this is.

    Specific examples:

    1) I need a "extra slim fit" small shirt, of which they carry very few. Salesperson can only find one in the store -- a short sleeve sport shirt instead of the long sleeve dress shirt I'm looking to buy. Even though the shirt clearly isn't fitting me very well, the SA doesn't really offer any help/advice/feedback, and instead encourages me to go to the Newbury Street store.

Well, that's fine they don't have it in stock right then, but at Brooks Brothers, I was under the impression SA's were trained to order clothing and set up a fitting in store. What's the point of having a retail store if you encourage customers to leave? Even J Crew will offer to have items shipped to wherever the customer is.

    2) Family-man with young child in front of me in line asks about children's wear -- and is told by the SA to go to Newbury Street. He leaves, annoyed. The SA doesn't even try to tell the customer what type of items BB has for children, but instead just shuts the conversation down.

    3) While doing a return (since I had to buy an XSF small shirt from their website, plus pay shipping, since they didn't have it in stock) on a weekday morning ~9:30am, there is only 1 SA in the entire store -- but 3+ customers needing help. I'm shunted to the end of the line since I'm making a return, while the other two are making purchases. Not terribly fair to me, but I do understand (sort of) that a return may take longer than a purchase. However, the SA "confides" in me that they apparently have a theft problem with the front of the store and people coming in and stealing off the front table -- so that's why he can't go into the back of the store right now (or something?). WTF? This is ridiculous, and I don't care.

    4) I saved the best for last. This location doesn't have any "Milano fit" pants (which are the slimmest BB offers), so I buy an assortment of colors & sizes online (maybe 7 pairs if I recall correctly?). Unfortunately, most of the colors look funny (overly faded chinos) with my skin tone, and also the sizes aren't quite what I was expecting. Now, importantly, I also already owned one pair which fits pretty well (not perfectly, needs a little tailoring), so I do know that I like this piece of clothing in general. I decide to keep 1 more pair, and return the rest.

Wow, the SA just gives me a world of pain.

First, I was utterly ignored for about 10 minutes -- on a Saturday mid-day, with 2 SA's and 1 stockist, and 1 other customer. The other customer, even though he was not standing next to the cash register, was then helped by the SA (that I saw on my previous visit) before me. The other customer was confused; meanwhile the SA did not acknowledge me. Then, when that transaction was done, the SA simply left.

I was about to speak up, but the second SA started walking over to help me. But then the first SA stopped the second SA, whispered something in his ear -- and then they both looked at me, and then both walked away!

The person stocking inventory (not a SA) actually walked up to me at that point, and apologized to me, and said "I don't know what he's doing." He turned around and tracked the SA down, who returned to then make things worse.

Suffice to say, he very rudely and very directly (a la Boston) asked me why I'm returning all these pants, how come I didn't come into the store for a fitting, why I bought them if I was only going to return them, etc. I was so stunned that a SA wouldn't understand buying two sizes to see which fit better that I said something about losing some weight -- and then he reiterated that I really should have come into the store first then if I lost some weight.

Coincidentally, I was wearing the one pair of Milano fit pants that I already owned, so I told him I like them, am wearing them now, and wanted to get another one. Instead of being happy that I'm actually a customer, the SA immediately complained something to the effect of, "If you already own one and know your size, why did you buy this other size? You shouldn't have done that."

This was enough for me, and I cut him off, and basically just asked him to do the return -- at which point he noticed the tags showed all of this inventory is stuff not carried in his store (he said so out loud), and I think he connected the dots about what was happening.

But no apology. And it took him forever to process the return.

Frankly, this is appalling service. I walked in dressed literally in BB clothing, and was treated like a delinquent 2 year old. There were numerous mistakes that BB made here (by 2 SA's) -- and ultimately, I hope they shut this entire branch down.

I haven't purchased anything from BB since.

I'm not a fan of getting dressed up but after asking all of my Yelp friends where to go, I went to Brooks Brothers.  Once I got there, John F. figured out what I wanted within minutes, and within a half hour I was measured and had bought some shirts and a belt.  And I got them on sale.

Eleven days later, I went back and picked up my suit.  These guys know what they're doing.  If you need to get dressed up, go here.  Sure you can buy a cheaper suit somewhere else, but you get what you pay for.  And it wasn't really bad at Brooks Brothers.  A suit, a belt, and 3 shirts, expertly fitted, were six hundred and change.  The way people were talking, I had expected it to be at least a thousand dollars.

I can not speak highly enough of John F.  Before moving to the State Street store, he was at the Peabody (North Shore mall) location, where I shopped with him for many years.  He has an unsurpassed eye for color, shape, and fit, and I would hire him to dress me every day if I could.

After moving to the west coast several years ago, I attempted to shop at BB locations in San Diego and Orange County but never found the same level of connection and just pure, unadulterated service as I found with John F.  So, rather than mess with a good thing, I still rely on John F. to find clothing/gifts for both my fiance and me.  Additionally, he might just be the best retail sleuth working today; he can track down a past-season tie from any random dark spot in the country.  And, he's always so wonderful to work with!  I mean, could he be more pleasant?!?  :)

BB prides itself on having sales associates who become like members of your family.  John F. not only meets that standard, but he raises the bar and sets new standards which the rest of the company must follow.

First of all it's easy to "go over the top" at any Brooks Brothers store, their stuff's not cheap. However, that intangible value one receives is ADVICE and SERVICE. Couple that with the quarterly sales incentives that they have and prices at Brooks Brothers start looking VERY REASONABLE! Yes way. Their sales person Aziz is on top of things and a great resource; he even lectures at Suffolk on how to dress appropriately and how to begin building a business attire wardrobe. It's always good to know the basic building blocks when one starts buying suits. Aziz is currently writing a book on these topics as well, thus making him Dr Brooks Brothers.
