I have been going here since they opened, at least 18 years ago. This has been excellent every single time I have gone, I would say the most consistent place I have ever eaten at.
I have read a few reviews that are really pathetic. Someone wrote about a "bad wine list"... are you serious? The problem with some people is that they don't have any taste, they have eaten bad food thier whole lives and when they finally have something decent that they aren't used to, they think its bad. I don't like the taste of truffles, but obviously they are one of the most expensive food on the planet, just because I don't like the taste does not mean they're bad and will not prompt me to give a bad review on it because I am ignorant.
Anyway....I am a trained chef and I know great food, and for the money, this place will consistently serve you great pizza in a very comfortable atmosphere....what more could you want in a higher end brick oven pizza joint? -

Always wanted to come here - Yesterday - I finally did!!!!
Shout out to my man Hector - who recommended a split pie. So we were able to try the red and the white pie!
This place is AWESOME!!!! The pizza tastes like it's fresh from the garden. Like grandma made it for you! The crust is beautiful. Thick, soft and airy. when you fold the slice and then open it back up - the stretch of the melted mozz, omg it's enough to make this little Italian fall in love!
My girlfriend and I shared a large pie. We took 1/2 of it home with us. Small is deff large enough for 2 - but for the extra $2 get the large!
Simple tip - White pie, do not eat before going out! GARLIC BREATH!
If you are in the area check it out! This is not the crappy pizza we've all become accustomed to. You cannot compare this to the oily fake cheese canned sauce pizzeria down the block!
This is gourmet pizza. That is probably why they do not serve slices. Because its Fresh - Not processed sitting out for hours, waiting to be re-heated slice by slice.
It is lame that's its cash only - that only hurts them though! I would have ordered more but I did not have enough dough - get it! dough! sorry that was really cheesy - Ok I'm done with lame pizza jokes - I'm too saucy for this! Last one I promise!
All i can say is that I'm a fan!!! Whoever didn't like it - is probably lost to the world of fake cheese pizza. -

I had not been to Brooklyn's Brick Oven in a few years. I came to the Hackensack location several times in their early years when they first opened. When they opened the Edgewater restaurant, I would frequent there because I lived in Cliffside Park for many years.
Now for the pizza.....it's definitely good. I love the sauce and I love the fresh mutz. The only problem was that the crust was very doughy and not crispy. I was surprised, since i figured it would be since its baked in the brick oven. I have had a lot of pizza in Brooklyn....L&B, Totonno, Sam's, Difara to name a few.....and the crust is usually crispy. I grew up on Bergen County pizza, but, the best pizzas I have had have been from Brooklyn and Staten Island. So I liked Brooklyn's Brick Oven Pizza, but I have had better.
The service was excellent, especially considering how crowded it was in there. The server we had was very personable and did a great job! -

Review from Lor A.
Ah yes, the great pizza debate. We Northeasterners love having it. Thin crust, thick crust, less sauce, more sauce, less mozz, more mozz, no basil, more basil, it goes on and on. Personally? If I was served the opportunity to eat only one kind of pizza for the rest of my natural-born life, then Brooklyn's would be it.
When I'm there, I am ordering the margherita pizza and nothing else. Frig the salad, screw the apps, I want the pizza and the pizza only. And don't ask me if I'd like to add pepperoni or anything else to it. I am not interested. The pizza must stand alone! I've eaten 5 slices in one sitting and I am not ashamed to admit that. They don't call me a skinny fatso for nothing.
The crust is not too thick, yet not too thin. There is just the right amount of sauce and mozz, and they are not stingy with the basil. It'll arrive at your table burning hot, so be careful that you don't scorch your mouth with your first bite. It'll ruin the rest of your night...I promise you.
The service has always been good and I've never been made to feel rushed, even when there was a line out the door (which there typically is).
Great place for an inexpensive night of killer pizza and beers.
Holy snikees! This was my 100th review! -

I really like Brooklyn's Pizzeria. When it comes out hot, the crust is crunchy and chewy at the same time, just how I like it. The sauce is really good and you can taste the basil in it. The mozzarella tastes real nice. It's simple and delicious.

Even tjhough there's a lot of reviews, nothing's been written for a while so I thought you'd like to hear about my experience last Saturday night.
I took my cousin here Saturday night and we had a great time. Consistently good, I think some of the reviewers may have misunderstood this place. First of all, it's not a pizza take out; it's a sit down restaurant which is why no slices are sold. I guess the name gets folks confused about what to expect. Also, at a pizza restaurant you'll usually find average house wine (which is the case here) but it works well with the food.
The pizza is absolutely delicious and takes a little while to come to you because it truly is cooked fresh in their fired up brick oven. Everything I've had here is delicious and it's a very good value. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is becasue it's a bit noisy but no one minds. It used to be an Arby's restaurant so the high ceiling and lack of sound proofing makes it a bit noisy. You enjoy coming here - food is great, so is the service and everyone's happy. It's definitely a positive environment.
My cousin and I had a large tomato and cheese pizza, the house salad, soda and shared a chocolate cake dessert. The bill came to $28.80 including tax and there was enough food for 3 people; we took half the pizza home but with a 3rd person you'd still be able to take 2 slices home. Add in a tip and it's quite reasonable.
All I can say is that this is a great place but if you don't come early, you'll be waiting on line for a while to get in. But, everyone is happy to do that. And yes, it's cash only. However, prices haven't jumped in my recollection for a very long time so if cash keeps pricing stable, I'm all for it. -
Review from Steve D.
Nice place for a Saturday lunch. We got a large pie w/ extra mozzarella and mushrooms. I'll start by saying the crust was the best i've ever had, i really looked fwd to the crust. The rest of the pie was severely lacking seasoning. We didn't taste oregano or garlic. We had to add our own, some grated cheese, a bit of onion powder, some dried oregano & some crushed red pepper and it was good to go, otherwise this pizza would've sucked. But like i said, the crust was really good.
Service was good, place seems clean. Give it a whirl. -
Review from John D.
Came back to this place on my way up to VT because most of the local joints that I know if around here are awful. Good choice on my part. Picked up a regular pie and a half peperoni/half sausage and was very pleased. As I would have expected, the pepperoni was thick sliced, unlike the mass-produced pepperoni that we're all used to. Sweet sauce and fresh mozzarella give this pizza it's delicious flavor. The crust is incredible too although a tad thin and saggy in the middle. Maybe it would be better if I ordered it to stay but I was still very happy with the overall product.

My Favorite Pizza
Brooklyn's Brick Oven Pizzeria is a great place for lunch, the personal pizza is even better then the large ones! The fried calamari is awesome as is the eggplant parm, salads and other apps make this place a excellent choice for a satisfying meal every time. Eat in as this type of food is best right out of the oven.
Service is good, food is prepared fast and served piping hot. The dining room is large and has a very open feel in this unusual looking building. A bit hard to get into the parking lot due to the amount of traffic in the area.

I know, why am I giving good pizza low rating. It's about the whole experience!
If you want good brick oven pizza in the area (I mean 5 minute radius), definitely this would be my first choice.
However, if I wanted the whole experience... I would go to the one in Edgewater.
(I'm sorry, I don't know how they are associated but they do have the same name so I thought they were sister restaurants.)
The good stuff... pizza is good. Just as good as the other BBOP.
I think the hackensack location has better prices. I ordered the salad and it was huge! Just a simple classic salad.
It's slightly dark, a blend of pizzeria and pub (with the neon beer signs)
But the main thing that deterred me from this locations.
It's not BYOB. However, if you are going to sell me wine, offer me good wine!
They have a very limited wine selection. And it was not good.

This place is small and cozy and can get very crowded in a flash.
There are only 3 waiters for the whole restaurant so service can be slow. However, the food is good. I prefer the breadsticks at the edgewater location, they seem to taste different.
It sucks that they do not refill drinks...
Also, there was a hair in the food. Totally gross. The restaurant is not the cleanest place in the world... -

This is the best pizza I have every had--ever. It's on par with anything I've had in Italy.
They make their own mozzarella and aren't stingy with it either (although I still order extra cheese because I just can't get enough!) I still love Modern pizza for New Haven-style thin crust apizza, but Brooklyn has the best fresh mozz pie around. They use a coal-oven for their pizza.
The service is great, especially for a pizza place. The take your order right away, the pizza comes out quick, and they even serve you your first slice. We rarely wait, even on a Friday night, and even then the wait isn't very long.
Note: cash only -

A+ pizza, fresh mozzarella and a coal oven...that's as good as it gets. Service is really quick. Only drawback is the lack of credit cards. I'll stop at Brooklyn's every time I'm in town.

Hackensack, NJ
Truth be told, I wasn't sure if I should give this place 2 stars or 3. I went with 3 (as you can see) because the pizza itself is fantastic. Probably one of the best pies I've ordered in a long time - BUT - The overall experience SUCKED!
I've lived in this area all my life and had never been to Brooklyn's, so when my craving for pizza hit hard one night I decided to give them a try. I was disappointed that I could not pay with a card or order just a slice, but none of that equated to the attitude the hostess gave me at the register.
I walked in not knowing they didn't take credit cards and decided to place an order so that it would be ready by the time I came back from the ATM. The hostess informed me that she would not (not could not) place the order until I came back with cash. She said I might be one of "those" people who places orders and then doesn't come back for them because "some people are just like that". I asked if I were to call in an order how would you take payment over the phone. She said they would only need a phone number. I told her to "write my phone number down then and pretend I called. She rolled her eyes, but did.
When I came back with the cash my order had not been placed in the queue and I had to speak to a manager for assistance. He got me the next available pie which took about 5 minutes and apologized for the delay. The hostess then rings me up for the wrong pie and the manager had to come over yet again to correct her mistake.
I vowed never to go back there again but when I got home and bit into the slice I decided to sleep on it before making any final decisions. -

I have been here a total of 3 times the first 2 times the pizza was ok nothing special but on my 3rd trip here the pizza gave me food poisoning! it was terrible. The seating arrangements are also weird. There is a table placed right by the door so anytime someone comes in you get a draft... not fun. I wont be back.

Hackensack, NJ
I don't get whats so great about this place. I didn't go in or sit down so I won't judge anything ambiance- or service-related, but the pizza was very mehhhh. Lots of dry, crusty crust, the cheese was scanty and sauce tasted, well, ragu with a bit of something extra. Maybe it was an off-day? After reading all these reviews, I may give it another chance but my impression when I drive past it is "ugh, that place".

Review from Michelle C.
Bergen County, NJ
After all the rave reviews, I expected much better. This place wants to be Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, and falls far short.
The pizza itself was just okay. The mozzarella on the pizza had almost no flavor (and this is coming from someone who loves fresh mozzarella). The pizza I've had there had partially burnt bottoms, which may be something that some people enjoy, but I am not one of them.
First, I was greatly disappointed to learn that you cannot order slices. Nothing short of a full pie. There's no justification given for this either.
Second, cash only. While I can understand not taking credit cards because of the costs involved, it would be really nice to know that kind of information up front (i.e., before your take-out order is ready to go).
Lastly, the staff was really rude. I've been in there twice, and both times the staff almost seemed to be laughing at the patrons as they had a blast hanging out with each other. I'm certain that this is not what the owners had in mind, but somehow this place seems to have a cult following. -

Pie looked good tasted bad. Soggy in the middle, under-cooked.
Mozzarella lacked flavor. Service was friendly. -

I went to high school nearby and ate a ton of this pizza in my teenage years. I always loved it, but I don't think I realized how good I had it until I ate at the much-hyped Grimaldi's and Lombardi's -- which are of course excellent, but really not much different than this local spot on Hackensack Ave.
The pizza here is so crave-worthy that after a month in China (where the food was incredible but of course lacking in the cheese department), I insisted on coming here straight from Newark airport -- despite having been in transit for almost 2 days and in very urgent need of a shower. -

This place is a little piece [or slice] of heaven on earth.
Picture this: 10 people, 4 LARGE pies, 1 side salad - $13 per person, tax and tip included. It was a beast feast, with three slices left over for afternoon noshing. I got my fill on 3 hearty slices of veggie pizza [Green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and pineapple. Yes, pineapple. Mmmmm pineapple. Try it, it's delish and will rock your world.] Go with a big appetite because there are no individual slices. Also be sure to hit up the ATM because they only accept cash. I know, how inconvenient [not really].
Ok I have to go pass out in a coma now. Buon appetito!Listed in: New Jersey Delights

Food: 5 Stars. This is one of the 3 best pizzerias I have ever been too. The ingredients are fresh and the pizza is exactly the way New York Pizza should taste. I have eaten a whole pie at one sitting. Its that good.
Their Antipasto is also good but doesn't stand out like their pizza
Service:4 Stars: The waitresses there were friendly but nothing outstanding. They don't accept credit cards. Its cash only. They also don't allow for individual slices so that's a bit of a drawback.
Atmosphere: 4 Stars: Atmosphere is standard. Pretty family friendly although it is always packed and you will wait.
Overall, this is as authentic as it gets. Worth going -

The pizza itself is excellent, because it's made with all fresh ingredients.
However, besides good food, everything else is below average. Not only this place is cash only, but they do not accept take out either! I think this place could improve and be a little flexible, because it's just a pizzeria to be honest; restaurants are good for dining in, but don't want to sit in a pizzeria. -

Review from Vivian L.
I LOVED THIS PLACE!!!! It really does taste like Grimaldis in NYC and I loved that place, too. Come when you're hungry though cause they don't mess around with the sizing here. We started off with the garlic bread which was pretty much a garlic pie, cut into diamond shapes. Part of it was burned which I could have done without, but all in all, they didn't skimp on the cheese or garlic so it was yummy.
Then our 2 pies came, one regular and one with half eggplant and half pepperoni. It was all YUM-MAY. The cheese was good quality, fresh and moist. No cheap cheese used here which leaves puddles of oil on the finished pizza. The dough was chewy and perfect. I loved it all. I somehow foot like 4 slices under my belt and then took a nap shortly afterwards.
Bring cash cause that's all they take here and save me a piece next time you go! :) -

This is great pizza, but they do not take credit or debit cards, if not for this I would probably be a regular customer. The other thing that annoys me is that they have a tendency to nickel and dime the customer. The soft drinks do NOT include free refills and you can not get drinks by the pitcher.

I have lived in the area all my life and had only attempted to go here once before. I had to leave last time because I was unaware that they only accepted cash until I entered. The only reasons they did not get 5 stars are because they only accept cash and because there are no free refills on drinks. It is very rare that you come across a sit-down restaurant that does either.
Now the food... My girlfriend and I ordered one large pie with sausage and an order of the fried mozzarella. The fried mozzarella was very very tasty and not the usual type. The pie was great top to bottom. The cheese was plentiful and delicious. The sauce was very fresh and there is the perfect amount of it on the pie. The crust had a great crunch, but wasn't overcooked, and had a nice flavor.
There service was quick, no issues there.
We were both stuffed after the meal and there were still three slices left over (and I eat a lot) that we took home. I liked this place very much and I would highly recommend it, just remember to bring cash. -
Review from Linda M.
I LOVE the pizza here - its authentic cooked in a brick oven and coals. The crust is nice and thin and sometimes you get that toasty crunch you cannot get in other NYC pizzerias. The toppings are super fresh so every bite is a fistful of healthy goodness! A medium pizza with about 3 toppings will run you over $20.00 - toppings are about 2 bucks each so choose wisely. Seating is first come first serve and they do not accept credit cards so make sure you run to an ATM before entering, otherwise you'll have the job of washing dishes!
I been to the one in Edgewater, NJ as well but I think the one in Hackensack, NJ is better - either/or pizza should taste THIS GOOD! Leftover pizza the day after is...AMAZING! -
Review from Nino R.
Best brick-oven in Bergen County, hands down. I don't know why this place isn't more popular. Aside from the pizza, I STRONGLY suggest you have the stromboli. It's pretty much insanity in your mouth. I first had stromboli in middle school. My uncle used to make it for my sisters and I. Kind of odd actually, a Filipino making stromboli, at least that's what I thought when I was 12.
If you don't know what stromboli is, I'll break it down for you.
Imagine a pizza being rolled into a loaf, with all the ingredients still inside. Cheese, meat, sauce, ricotta around layers of soft dough. It is one of my favorite things in life really. One of the few inanimate objects that can exert a hold on me.
Whenever I'm in Jersey, I make it a point to stop by.
There are a few downers however:
-It's cash only.
-No individual slices
-Next to a cemetary
Other than that, this place is tip-top... -
Review from Jon K.
This was a great stop last night during the snowstorm.
Two of us started off by sharing the regular house salad. It is a very generous portion of romaine lettuce, sliced raw onion, olives, mushrooms, cucumbers and two pieces of the fresh bread that they make using the pizza dough. It is served with olive oil, vinegar and balsamic vinegar on the side.
Next we had the fried cheese ravioli. Pefectly fried little pockets of heaven stuffed with ricotta. They sprinkle some type of parmesan cheese on top and serve with cup of red sauce.
We split a plain, large, cheese and tomato pie. The crust was a bit more doughy than usual but we still managed to polish off 7 of 8 slices. Their brick oven style pizza is my favorite in Bergen County area.Listed in: My Faves in North Jersey

Best pizza in Jersey! Period.
I've been to numerous pizzerias all over Jersey (north, mid, and south) and no one compares to the quality of Brooklyn's Brick Oven. From the crust to the cheese to the sauce, everything tastes like it was freshly prepared. I can literally eat a whole pie myself!
It's a little pricier than standard places, but definitely worth the money. If you live in Bergen county, you HAVE to go to this place. -

This place is just OK. Very fresh ingredients, but not enough salt. The middle of the pie was a little saggy. Good fast service. Prices very affordable. ($16.95 for a large pie, plus $2 for each topping, beer $4.) Cash only! Good place for the price.

River Vale, NJ
Perhaps the best pizza in New Jersey. The brick oven pizza features the freshest sauce I've ever tasted. The mozzarella has the right balance of flavor and consistency that most pizza places ruin. Toppings are extensive, the sausage is great if you must cover the pizza with anything.
The atmosphere is rather weak; someone bought out a Wendy's or Arby's. However, the attentive staff makes it worth the trip.
Be forewarned, they are cash-only. -
Review from Jared L.
Palisades Park, NJ
Was a bit skeptical about this place being one of the better pizzerias until today. Tried the personal 10" with sausage (Lunch Only), $8.03, even $10 with tip. I prefer Hanky's crust in Palisades Park but the fresh cheese, the sauce, the basil! Delicious! Sausage wasn't bad either but not really a necessity - well, I'm a meat lover so that's a different story but for the rest of you, it's all good.
Ample parking, great location (virtually right off Rt. 4), bummer Sunday hours. Only pie purchases and cash only.
I only give 5 stars if the whole experience of travel and the food are to perfection but I missed a left and had to U-turn in a cemetery. -
