Two things: 1.) the nachos are WHOA. Get the steak, probably med/med-well. 2.) the burgers are CHEWmongous.
Great selection of liquors compared to your fellow Fort Greene proprietors, and ample seating.

2 words. No TV.
5 more words. Kitchen Open Till 2 AM.
These facts combined with the all around awesome laid back vibe of Brooklyn Public House makes it an easy choice for me to yearn to swing by after work for beers and snacks. And the snacks are rockin! Full menu of mostly comfort food items. I've now had the burger a couple times - really no reason to order anything else, they have got this down pat. Cooked to order, and for onion ring fans see my photos. That sh!t is real! I've had the linguine special, wings, and also quesadilla - just to shake things up. All were delicious, but burgers are the ace menu item.
Nice bar staff and waiters. Gets a bit busy at times and service can be slowish - but worth the wait especially if you are feeling leisurely. Which I also recommend. There are booths in the back, and also options for larger groups. Great for solos, pairs, or bunches - with no TVs there are no distractions. Love.this.place! -

Good selection of quality beers and mixed drinks.
The food is better than the usual bar fare. My favorites burger and fries or mussels. I can't get my jaws around this thing so that gives you and idea of how big it is. It even comes with onion rings. The mussels always taste fresh and it comes with a flavorful broth to dip bread in. Best of all, they serve Steve's key lime pie!
I like the atmosphere. The music is just right, the service is attentive, and it's a good crowd. I usually find myself here after work to chill out, enjoy good food and people watch. I've taken friends out here and my boyfriend and I used to hang out here from time to time. No matter where I end up, I somehow find myself back at this place even if I don't live in the neighborhood any more. -

Well executed pub menu with few surprises. The chicken parm is a personal favorite. The nachos are a standout as well. The beer, however, is the real star. Decently priced with an amazing selection and reliably fresh and clean taps (surprising hard to come by in neighborhood bars) this is a suburb place to saddle up and down a few cold ones any time of day.

We went here on Friday nite, it was full. We got a table right away, we were seated by a very nice server. We had an amazing dish, Irish sausage and mashed potatoes, YUMMY! And we had a house salad, also very delicious. We then ordered another dish with batter dipped sausage. And the best part, we got a nice bottle of red wine for ONLY $15. Overall the experience was very pleasant. I would definitely go back here.

Review from Amik A.
Brooklyn Public is a busy institution in the Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn and the attention is well deserved. Average prices for above average bar food = Pratt student hangout. Well, me and a few of my fellow NYU students checked the place out the other day and we all ended up ordering burgers and fries. Pretty outstanding. The burgers were charred to perfection and the crispy gristle was magic. I ordered a Bacon Bleu Burger: crispy bacon creamy blue cheese. It could have had a bit more cheese on it but overall a very tasty combination. The fries were ... fries. Nothing special. Total damage with tip was about $16. Overall, if you are in the neighborhood and want some good bar food in a loud and young atmosphere under cramped quarters, then Brooklyn Public will not disappoint. Service is fast and friendly too.

Public house is pubby. Is that what 'pub' stands for? I get it now.
There's a bar in front and seating in the back. Longish, not large-ish. Beer selection is fair, and prices hover around 6 bucks. they list alcohol content on the menu (by percentage) so that's a fun statistic to add to your decision-making process.
I personally come here for the fish and chips. It's surprisingly good, consistently battered and fried to flaky delight. Granted, when one walks into this kind of place one assumes the food will be passable at best: overcooked buffalo wings, lukewarm fries. But it is f*cking delightful.
I've also ordered their blackened catfish dish and it was a finely cooked piece of fish. the cooks seem to know what they're doing here. Namely, when food has been cooked to prescribed time or temperature, remove food from cooker. I guess this is difficult enough, based on what I've seen from Hell's Kitchen. I can't vouch for the burger or the steak, but the fish is fantastic. Priced for dinner at about 14 bucks. -

I can't say that I like this place, yet, I do find myself coming here often.
The beer selection is great, and not terribly priced. The most I'll pay for American drafts is 6$, which most of the beers here are at or under.
The bar food is reasonable, and cheap. The burger is good and the fries and well-made.
Overall not bad, not good. Kinda fun. -

I've been here on two occasions, once with a large group, and once on a date.
I enjoyed the ambiance, the service was great, especially with it being a large group / busy night.
The food was much better than expected, as I assumed it would be standard pub fare. They've got a pretty decent selection on tap, with a lot of American Craft Beers. I'd definitely come back. -

Came here before the Amon Tobin show at the Masonic Temple. Had a quick beer & shot of Woodford with the Fish & Chips to split (we were running really late for the show and this was right around the corner). Food was great, staff was amazing, beer selection was ok, but being not a beer bar that was acceptable.
Our first visit was memorable enough that we came back after the show for more beers, more Woodford and more food. The prices are not what one would think of for NY prices (makes me think of home in Bmore), and the Wings when we had them on our second visit that night were amazing. A little spicy, a little sweet and perfectly cooked.
We will definitely be back next time we are in NY. -

ended up here when several other hot spots along Dekalb were transitioning from brunch to dinner and no longer serving food- now I go ALL the time- the food is consistently DELICIOUS even the salads (surprising for "pub", I know)- service is great- atmosphere chill- can't ask for more!

Everything a pub should be. It's spacious yet cozy at the same time, there are 24 beers on tap, people are friendly and relaxed, and there's an impressive menu of high-quality comfort foods. More like this, please!

I really like this place. It doesn't just look like a restaurant/bar far removed from NY (like a place you'd come across on Main St. in flyover US) but it FEELS that way...in a charming way of course lol.
I've been here for drinks for a friend's bday as well as brunch twiice and it's just a good place to go for casual anything. Just a great atmosphere to hang out with friends and as a location for brunch in the summer, unmatched.
I've only had the steak and eggs for brunch (with arugula salad and potatoes) and both times, on point! SOOO good. Service is neither excellent nor the worst, really just there (so take that how u must). -

Brooklyn, NY
Although this place has been open for 2 years, my first time there was two weeks ago and I've been back one time since. I ordered fish and chips which was great. My wife ordered a salmon salad which was also great. Very fresh. I had the same waitress both visits, and not only was she attentive, but very friendly and cool.
The beer selection is off the hook and the bartender really knew his stuff. He gave me a sample of a summer brew, which I ordered.
I would recommend this place. -

Brooklyn, NY
The Brooklyn Public House was pretty much a so-so experience for my friends and I. We went on New Year's eve for dinner. We were seated pretty quickly and ordered pretty quickly. The food came out in a timely manner. The food was good. I got a veggie burger, which was pretty typical as veggie burgers go. The only problem with The Brooklyn Public House was the service. It wasn't too busy and yet our server didn't check up on us, didn't re-fill our water or drinks and didn't give us all a place setting. Getting the check was like pulling teeth. Other than that, it was a so-so experience. Good, very relaxed atmosphere. Meh!

Didn't eat so I can't comment on the food, but I like this place in terms of the pub vibe. It's warm, bright, packed with people out socializing with friends, and the service was fine. I'll let others debate the food. I simply found it a nice place for a drink.

I guess brunch isn't this place's forte.
Everyone on the floor seemed to be treating service like a free-for-all. I had no idea who my server was because at least 4 different people came to my table. I ordered refills of coffee from one of these 4 people and never got it. It all seemed awkward and unorganized.
The bloody mary is good. I just wish it had some pickles in it. -

Let's just start by saying good pancakes & a free mimosa will make me a very happy patron...LOL!
A couple of friends and I spontaneously decided to have brunch one saturday. The 3 of us shared a stack of pumpkin pancakes as an appetizer.. I know we are fatties. The pancakes where fluffy & light.
I got the steak & eggs w/ potatoes brunch special which was pretty tasty. Now here is why they have 4 STARS!
I noticed my eggs were very runny and wanted it to be cooked a lil bit more. I had eaten 1/3 of my steak & some of my potatoes by this time. Waitress says they can cook my eggs more & takes my plate. About 10mins goes by and we noticed that I didn't get my plate back. I notice a waitress walking by w/ a plate that looks like mine but it can't be. Maybe another 10mins go by and I'm like really 20 mins to cook an egg. We finally get our waiter's attention and she says i should have had it. She looks to the right and sees MY PLATE BEING DEVOURED BY ANOTHER CUSTOMER @ THE BAR!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL!
She freaks and goes to the manager & other waiter. All my friends & I hear is " YOU GOTTA BE F***IN KIDDING ME."
Our waiter comes back and apologizes profusely. She says they will make me a complete new order, which was only right seeing as if I didn't really eat it. I felt bad for the person who got my plate. However, don't you know what your plate looks like..unless you ate exactly the amount I ate.. LOL! The person is lucky I didn't pick up the steak w/ my hands and eat it like a caveman...LOL LOL!
So 4 stars it is... you getting someone else's plate is a definite no no... even thought the food is delicious....LOL LOL LOL! -

For the neighborhood hands down they have the best burger- a bit pricey but the burger is big enough for 2 so well worth it.

Review from Katie T.
Limited weekend brunch menu. But whatever we did order, it was pretty decent.
I tried the steak and eggs, it surprised me in a few ways. The portion was huge: the steak was about 3 times bigger than recommended serving size (by dietary guideline) for red meat (3 x a deck of playing cards). This leads to my second point, their presentation of steak and egg is very different from my conventional impression of scrambled eggs mixed with steak cubes. Instead, my order had an egg served over easy with a dinner version of gigantic piece of steak. It wasn't necessarily better or worse, just different.
I'd try out the place on different occasions than brunch: might be nice for happy hour/snack. -

I have/will make it a point to stop in here for a Dunkel each and every time I come to Brooklyn! Great staff, great bar, and awesome place to just hang out with friends before or after dinner. Not to mention, just a walk away from my friends place in Brooklyn!

Brooklyn, NY
Food's alright, but the service is BAD. Went on Halloween, but the place wasn't that busy. Our waitress had some real attitude. Had to ask for more water for the table twice, but it never came. She never apologized for forgetting. I told the manager about the problem, and his response was, "Hey, this is a bar. It's a holiday. People are gonna make mistakes." Um, you're right: it is a bar. But I wouldn't really call Halloween a "holiday," and I sure wouldn't use that as an excuse when the place isn't even busy. No one tried hard, no one was apologetic. This place ain't getting a second chance from me.

Now THIS is what Sunday brunch is supposed to be about.
After being disappointed elsewhere this weekend, I was glad to know that, "beef, real food for real people", is not going the way of the Dinosaur.
Steak and Eggs are meant to be JUST LIKE THIS. (see photos) A big, juicy steak, with fatty edges, and eggs cooked properly. ($14)
My salad, ($11) with chicken. (add 2.50) was actually filling and unbelievably satisfying. When you get real MEAL like this, who even notices, that there is no toast or bread, or biscuits. Includes a nice tumbler size bloody Mary that is very tasty. Very pleasant, prompt, and good follow up service.
Brooklyn hearty brunch. Vindicated. -

Ever crave a burger with an egg???
Their brunch burger is just perfect to fulfill that yummilicious craving! AND you get a bloody mary or mimosa to go with it! How perfect is that?!
Mostly eaten here for brunch and I always leave pretty happy. Been once for dinner and had their turkey chili, crab cake, and fried sausage with some great beer. Wasn't crazy about the fried sausage, but had to try it. Overall, never disappointed.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Review from Meg M.
3 Stars is generous as far as I am concerned. The ambiance and vintage feel to this place makes it a desirable place to sit and people watch but the two most important qualities of a restaurant were lacking: service and food. My fiance and I stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon to close out our weekend stay in Brooklyn and satisfy a hankering for a some breakfast noms. I ordered the eggs benedict. I consider myself an experience eggs benny critic, and I tend to base a restaurants food ability on its ability to obtain a perfect poach and a not too runny, not too thick hollandaise. Flavor is key, and store bought hollandaise is a mortal sin in my book. I was excited to see what this spot had to offer.
My fiance ordered the intriguing Beef Brisket Hash with poached egg and homefries. Corned beef hash is this mans favorite thing to eat. He likes it authentic, he likes it Irish style (Mul's Diner shout out), he likes it from a can in a pinch.. but again.. flavor is key.
Our plates arrived pretty promptly and they were plated nicely. I immediately noticed how thing the hollandaise looked. I was saddened almost instantly but pushed on to judge by what really matters-the taste. Well, the taste didn't bring it on home either. I cannot decide what was more watery.. the hollandaise or the poached eggs. It was an utter failure. I ate one side of the english muffin because I was starving and I am pregnant, but I left the other untouched. The homefries were fine, but I mean... How can you screw up homefries?
Mark's beef brisket was grey, void of flavor and entirely unimpressive. I'm not from Brooklyn or anything (seems like no one from Brooklyn is actually FROM Brooklyn in this area) but I doubt they like overcooked, bland breakfast food. After asking for the bill we waited a while for it to arrive, and then another 10 minutes to get the thing cashed out. The waitress seemed overwhelmed and busy, maybe they need to get this girl some help?
I'd imagine this is one of those spots who rests on its night life and beer selection rather than its culinary offerings, so next time we're in Brooklyn... We'll skip this spot unless we wanna booze it up. -
Review from Pamela S.
Good food and fantastic beer selection.
The staff is kind and courteous and this place is always crowded on weeknights and weekends.
Chicken club sandwich is a go to dinner on a cold night or nachos are great to share with the table.
I have to say that I would have given this 3 stars because the prices are pretty steep, but this really is our go to local spot and I would be sad if it wasn't around. -
Review from Jeff R.
Brooklyn, NY
Came here a week ago on a Tuesday night around 10 for drinks. The place was quite packed...snagged the last two seats at the bar. Now, I love Brooklyn and it has many amazing things going for it, but bars with good weeknight crowds are not one of them. So it was off to a good start from the beginning.
The bar has a great draught beer selection. I had a couple of IPAs (the brewer is escaping me) which were only $4! Great deal for a good beer. Not sure what the others were going for. My friend had a couple of Absolut cocktails which I believe were only $6 each...pretty decent.
Didn't try the food so can't comment on that. The place had a nice cozy feel to it. The crowd was mostly made up of Pratt students and locals, but still had a nice range of ages.
In summary: I approve of this bar and will likely be back to enjoy more delicious beers. -

I am a huge fan of Brooklyn Public House! It's usually the safe late night dinner spot that my boyfriend and I can always depend on.
The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the last experience I had. I was so disappointed. I ordered the mussels which I normally love at this place but when I started to eat them they were very mushy and tasted a little off. This was very out of the ordinary because I am usually very happy with this place. In fact, I never know what to order because I love everything so much!
They handled the situation in the best way possible and took the mussels off my bill while apologizing.
I still recommend Brooklyn Public House, as I think this was a rare occurrence and it won't stop me from going back! -

I think they have the best Brunch burger in the universe and the turkey burger was awesome. French fries were to die for. I also really enjoyed the wide array of beers on tap. The atmosphere is also very lovely and mellow.

Cashing in on the "Brooklyn..." title, can't blame them, it's a cash cow. But with a unimaginative name comes an unimaginative dining experience each time I have been in. Not offensive, always pleasant, but definitely overpriced. As far as even calling it a pub, I don't know, me and my buddy came in at like five on a Monday, had two beers and burgers and with tip we dropped over $75. No happy hour, seriously, can you Call yourself a pub with no happy hour?

I've been here quite a few times since moving to this neighborhood, and I can say that I've never had a bad meal or service here. *knock on wood*
This place knows what they're doing. The fish and chips are awesome, the burgers are juicy, and they know how to make a banging bloody mary for brunch. (And I don't even like bloody marys!)
A great casual bar/establishment to chill with your friends, bring a date or show mom and dad that you've finally stopped eating Ramen noodles for breakfast.Listed in: Gotta Go

Review from Jane K.
So we stopped in here for a quick bite before running off to a free show at BAM for the "Sounds Like Brooklyn" music festival. It's super new to the Fort Greene neighborhood and is clearly still trying to get the word out judging by the number of open tables on a Saturday night. There are still plenty of kinks to work out but this place is definitely promising.
First off, they have my favorite beer on tap: Old Speckled Hen. This made me incredibly happy and definitely gave them an A-grade head start. Secondly, our waitress was sweet---if not a bit flustered...I don't think the issues with the food (which I'll get to) in any way had to do with her service.
So the food. Great menu. Lots of comfort food: mac n cheese, wings, steak sandwiches, pizza, etc. Problem is, judging by the state of the items we ordered and received the menu will be going through some serious tweaking in the near future. We had a group of five sitting at an eight person table and yes, I was the sucker sitting without a cross table pal..boo kink #1. Not sure why they have such a gap with 8 person tables and 2 person tables....but nothing in between?
I chose to share the honey BBQ wings app and mac and cheese entree with a pal. We ordered these specifying that we wanted them served together yet still received the wings alone rather than with everyone elses entree. Ok, timing issue...kink #2.
When everyone's entrees finally arrived, after about 45 minutes (kink #3) of waiting ravenously with our beers, our mac n cheese was no where in sight. Now, mind you everyone was starving by this time so we insisted they dig in, confident that our missing dish would be right behind. After flagging down a waitress with the inquiry...actually one of my dinner companions got up and hunted her down...she informed us that they had accidentally given our dish to another table that had also ordered it. I wish she hadn't told me that...kink #4. When the MIA entree finally appeared almost everyone had cleaned their plate. Everyone that is, besides the poor bloke who ordered the pizza. Note: pizza should never be served in a cast iron bowl...as that would make it searing hot, psuedo-inedible pizza soup (I'm going to stop counting kinks now).
Meanwhile the mac n cheese was cold. Actually COLD food. And here we were waiting around for what looked like something that had been sitting on the counter untouched for thirty minutes--dried cheese crust and all.
So yes, this place is new. Yes, we missed the concert because the entire dinner fiasco ended up eating two hours of our evening. And yes, I will try it again several months from now to update my review. -

This was the first time i ate you. Basic bar food...very salty. When in the mood for a beer and a huge burger or sandwich this is the place to go!!! We paid $40 for a bacon burger, chicken wrap, a corona, and a pint of mangers.
