Yum. This is, hands down, the best pizza place in Birmingham. While the prices may skyrocket like our national debt, this place provides quality pizza. Personally, I prefer the Margharita pizza. It's delish. Overall, tasty food with high prices.

Review from Jeff C.
Its been a while since I've been to Brooklyn Pizza, I gave up on the place a few years ago after they served me my pizza with their bare hands. Fast forward to 2011 and I decided to give them another try.
I ended up ordering two slices of the pepperoni pizza, I really wanted the chicken but I wasn't about to spend what they were asking on something with 3 small chunks of chicken on it. To be honest the only pizza that looked remotely appetizing was the pepperoni, all the other had that old and cold look to them. I guess they'd heat the slices up but I like fresh.
The restaurant in general looked dirty, the bathroom was disgusting, and the pizza turned out to be a greasy mess. For the prices they are asking I'll go somewhere else. -

Best pizza place around these parts for me. Very tasty, or maybe scrumptious would sum it up better. I also prefer the Margherita pizza, full of fresh basil, tomato, and big drops of marshmallowy mozzarella cheese. Yes it is a little pricey, nevertheless it is delicious so well worth the extra nickel. I sometimes drive a few miles out of the way to get this good stuff. When you are finished with this little meal you feel good and you are ready to slowly move on to your next assignment. Also, btw, the place is pork free -- beef pepperoni, turkey based ham, so good for all nationalities to dine at this fine establishment.

In the English language there are lots of words that loosely translate to alright. Okay. So-so. Not bad. Acceptable. But if I had to lean to a word to describe Brooklyn Pizza, I'd go "mmmmmkay." Five ms in that, because it's one of those places that can go either way depending on your mood, the mood of the guy behind the counter, and how long your chosen slice has been sitting out waiting for you. The BBQ chicken pizza is an affront to New York style pizza everywhere, but is usually pretty tasty here. Alternatively, the pepperoni pizza sweats grease like a good New York-style pizza should, but it seems to lack that spicy kick that makes pepperoni pizza so delicious.
There aren't a lot of other quick slice places in Birmingham, so if you're in the neighborhood and in the mood for quick pizza, this is a decent option. -

I made up with my girlfriend here. It's a good casual place to dine in the NYC style in beautiful Birmingham no less.
This comes close to authentic NYC pizza but it's lacking something. I think the dough is a bit harder than the real deal and the flavor is blander IMHO.
Tip: Like NYC there are containers of dried minced garlic that make the pizza pop, you need to sprinkle some of that on your pie. -

Best pizza in Birmingham, period. If you have a bit of sophistication you'll realize all other pizza places in the area are a joke, especially Primos, all they do is load up with butter and make you feel bloated.

Birmingham, MI
Brooklyn makes really good pizza, but regrettably it has very limited seating and during the summertime it is awash in entitled Birmingham matrons who feel that their kinder deserve every table outdoors or in...and the right to bring the family dog along. What a mess...squaling bambinos and snarling canines and no one with courage to send them off to Chuckie Cheese. A great place for lunch...before the diaper bags arrive. I've never noticed a bare handed approach to service.

After hearing about Brooklyn Pizza from several friends, we finally gave it a shot. Maybe the rave reviews raised our expectations a bit too high, but we were very disappointed.
I went in on a weeknight, around 8 pm. The staff behind the counter barely acknowledged me (I was the only customer there). The prices were steep, but I figured maybe the flavor would justify the cost.
I am not going to get wrapped up in the whole "real NYC pizza" discussion. If one is honest, they will admit that there are plenty of "authentic" pizza places in Manhattan and the other burroughs that aren't very good. But our large four cheese was cold, tough and bland. That's bad anywhere. -

Just call me a Jehova's Witness, knocking on your door, peddling some kind of crazy, trying to convert you sacrilegious Detroit thick-crusters into thin-crust idolators. No matter how many times you slam the door in my face or kick me off your porch, I will not give up on spreading the good word.
You'll want to stick to your greasy square pizzas. But then you'll try Brooklyn Pizza's cheese pie, and you'll fold as easily as the 8" slice.
All it will take to convert you is a simple, plain, cheese pizza from Brooklyn Pizza. So authentically Big Apple, this pizza has quickly risen to must-eat-at-least-once-a-week status. The crust is crisp yet chewy, with not a hint of greasiness. But you know I can never give out a grease-less five-star rating, so where does the grease come in??? In the cheese--a melted layer of creamy, salty, non-liquefied (!) perfection atop the crust. And the sauce... the supermodel of Brooklyn Pizza--thin, mild, and slightly sweet.
They have ten specialty pizzas, including a margherita, barbecue chicken, and Greek. They also sell pizzas by the slice--reheating a slice from a pie made earlier in the day that has since congealed at room temperature. Resist, resist, resist! At least your first time at Brooklyn Pizza, order none other than a freshly-made brick oven 16" cheese pizza. Only $11 to sell yourself on thin crust.
Now, I'm head-over-heels with the pizza alone. But Brooklyn Pizza pulls out all the stops with a case full of real Italian gelato and sorbetto. The sorbetto is pungent, strong, and dense--better than any Italian ice I've had in Philadelphia. And with tiny pieces of caramelized rind in the citrus sorbettos, I think I have found my purpose in life.
So like the religion-peddling Jehova's Witnesses, let me beseech you whether you have found your purpose in life. Make Brooklyn Pizza your place of worship--you will find answers to life's greatest questions, and become a disciple of Thin Crustism.

Downgrading from 4 to 2 stars. Gone downhill. Dirty, sloppy, poor workmanship of the pizzas. The crust is inconsistent--sometimes soggy. I think they're using cheaper, lower-quality cheese. Just not that good any more. -

Been going here for a couple of years since it is just around the block from my work.. The pizza is consistent. I usually go with the margherita or the pepperoni slice. Always pretty decent after heating up in the pizza over for a moment. Pizzas in the case do not always look that great if you go in around 8pm, looks like they have been sitting there for a while. The garlic knots and pepperoni rolls are pretty tasty and a good little deal.
The chicken pizzetta is a good choice to go to if you are a little hungry but don't want to splurge on a whole pie. It's a flat bread with mascarpone cheese, roasted garlic, grilled chicken and carmelized onions. I go to this if I just want a little snack that's not too filling. My only complaint is that every time I order it it ends up looking different or is cut different and sometimes is in a different shape all together.
On the one occasion I did get the gelato it was pretty amazing although they didn't have a container for carry out gelato so he just threw tin foil over the cup.

Our daughter loves this place. Pizza + Gelato = tummy goodness.
Eaten here on numerous occasions, and love it.
I've never been to Brooklyn, nor had NY Pizza, so I'll just take the rest of the Yelpers' opinions on here and say it is authentic.
Usually a 16 incher + gelato is enough for our family of 3. Add the fact is is within walking distance to a pretty cool park and you can make an evening of it.
They have outdoor seating, they take credit cards now, and the people are always nice.
This place never disappoints.
Now eat there. Otherwise, I will find you, and force a slice down your throat. -

Consistency. I really like consistency. Brooklyn Pizza must know that about me. Our evening plan was scrapped by thunderstorms. Lacking reservations at Roscoe's (my home kitchen and gym-it's a long story), I point the car to Birmingham.
Beating the rain storm by mere moments, we settle into a street side table and enjoy our freshly made three cheese/three mushroom pie. Water and cherry-pineapple sorbetto complete the meal.
So how was it? Great. Funny, it always is. I haven't had a bad slice or dessert here yet. I like consistency.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Oh I forgot how much I like this place...delicious! I would definitely say this and My Cousin's from New York pizza are tied....they both taste similar, althou I would give the slight edge to Brooklyn for the pepperoni and the gelatto.
They use FRESH mushrooms, and my regular readers know how much I HATE HATE HATE canned mushroom on pizza. I have not been inside to give an accurate description of their other pizzas as we picked this up on the go, but damn, it was as good as I remembered, as I hadn't been here in years.
It's definitely a thin crust pizza, but not a cracker thin crust, so if you are looking for some carb relief and some great tasting pizza and gelatto this is the place. They do have some outdoor tables as well, perfect for an evening stroll and a snack.

I'd heard about Brooklyn Pizza for what seemed like forever. My fiancee loves the place, though we'd never been together. We finally gave it a shot this weekend.
And it did not disappoint.
We walked in and stared at the menu, trying to decide what we wanted. The owner told us he had a "mistake" pizza in the oven that we could buy at half price. It was the Brooklyn, though half of it had less toppings on it. Looked good and was already made, so we gave it a go. It was impressive.
The gelato and sorbetto (if you ask for half and half, they'll do it) was incredible. I'll come back just for that. -

Brooklyn makes a good pie. Thin crust NY style. Used to carry out more but parking is a biatch. Not much space to eat in, but some seating on the sidewalk. Pricey but this is Birmingham baby!

I wanted to try this place because the best pizza I ever had was in Brooklyn. This pizza was delicious. I wouldn't quite call it Brooklyn pizza but it was good none the less. I ordered a fresh made 10 inch cheese pizza - simpler is better to me when it comes to this type of pizza- and it came out pretty quick.
The gelato and sorbbetto looked really good but I was too full to try it. Next time I'll save room for the Halloween which is full of Oreo, chocolate chips, peanut butter cup, snickers, caramel and a few other treats you'd get while trick or treating.
One star off because it seemed like the tables hadn't been wiped down in while and the slices in the case looked like they could have been sitting there an hour or 8 hours. Go for a fresh made pizza. -

To be honest, I debated for awhile between giving five stars (as we were eating the pizza, we both could not stop saying how good it was) and four stars (while they have a decent selection of pizzas, I would like more--give me a chicken or spinach alfredo...or a BLT...or Hawaiian). In the end, as you can see, I opted for four stars...because it's not quite "as good as it gets."
That said, the pizza was done quickly (we called on the way there and it was ready in under 15 minutes), the guys working there were nice, and although I balked at $20 for a large pizza, it was definitely worth it. And the pizza was--literally--drool-inducing as we smelled it all the way home.
Word of warning: you may THINK about getting the small, but get the large. When I first saw the box I thought "Awesome! Leftovers!" But between us two adults easily ate the whole thing (it's a thin pizza).
So, overall, a SOLID four stars. We would definitely eat this pizza on a much more regular basis if it was just a smidge closer.Listed in: Troy Area A to Z Eating…

Now I would like to give this place 5 stars for the pizza but 1 star for the service. I don't know what is going on with the people working there but I've never seen one of them say 'hello' or even a slight smile.
As for the pizza make sure you go when it's around lunch time or the selection of pizza available by the slice is small. I go for the Mexican and my hubby always gets the Margherita. Stay away from the mushroom pizza because it's a little watery.
Overall I wish they would hire friendlier people to work here! It would just make the experience so much better :) -

Janelle P was right--this place is as good as it gets around here! (which is to say, it's great!) Having grown up in Philadelphia in an Italian neighborhood that is bursting at the seams with pizza joints, I have cultivated my tastes for pizza for many years. Brooklyn pizza is the authentic pizza I had been craving...thin crust, delicious cheese that's not greasy, and an all-around mouth-watering taste. Even though Michael and I waited a half-hour for our pizza, it was definitely worth the wait. We ordered a 16-inch pizza, half cheese, the other half a gourmet selection called "the Brooklyn" which had olives, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, pine nuts, etc.
Truth be told, the Brooklyn was good, but not the best ever; it was actually the plain old cheese pizza that was the star of the show. If you want good pizza and lots of it, do yourself a favor and order ALL CHEESE. Don't scrimp--go for the 16 inch rather than the 10 inch; two hungry people can easily polish it all off or most of it off. And save some room for dessert--they have an amazing selection of homemade gelatos, sorbettos, and regular ice creams. Michael and I split a small capuccino chip gelato.
Cheese pizza + amazing gelato = heaven on earth!!
P.S. They have a nice outdoor seating area that is wonderful on sunny days... :-)
P.P.S. I saw lots of kids around, so it seemed pretty kid-friendly, tooListed in: Birmingham's Best, Italian food in Metroi Detroit

closest thing to authentic NYC Pizza. Try the Margherita pizza and also the garlic knots are 4 for $1.
It's not good as NY Pizza Depot in Ann Arbor. That's why it's not 5 stars! -

The best time to try this pizza is during the spring, summer and early fall months when you can sit outside and enjoy your meal. The pizzas are quite flavorful with a crispy crust. It's the closest to NYC pizza you can get in Southeastern Michigan.
The big downside is they are cash only. They'd probably get more business if they switched to credit cards.Listed in: Best of Metro Detroit

Brooklyn, NY
So everyone has gotten the hint that they have brick-oven pizza, it is delicious, and is CASH only.
here are some things about Brooklyn you may not know. As far as slices go.. they only have 4 kinds on a daily basis. They have the margarita pizza, mushroom and cheese, pepperoni, and barbecue chicken. All of which are good, but I prefer CPK's BBQ chicken over Brooklyn's.
I have tried some of their specialty pizzas and have yet to be disappointed. I just wish that they would do slices of those pies on some days--- not everyday, but let's say they have a certain specialty pizza on Mondays and then a different one on Tuesdays... I think it would be good for business and then people would be able to try some of their other pies! Brooklyn, I hope your listening!
None the less, it is completely a kid-friendly environment and has a great patio section for people watching.

Obviously, with a name like Brooklyn Pizza, we're not talking about a Chicago-style, deep-dish pie of a thing. While I can appreciate a Chicago pizza as something of a different genre of thing, I'm not one that thinks of that stuff when he thinks of pizza. I think of the New York pizza paradigm.
Brooklyn Pizza is one of two places that I think of in this area when I want my beloved New York-style pizza. It does all the great things that a slice of New York pizza should do. It's thin, and it's crisp. It's firm, but it's not brittle--it's not a cracker, people. I can fold it in half, hold it by the crust and have that gorgeous reddish grease drip from it on to the plate. They get the sauce and the cheese just right here too. The appropriate shakers of oregano, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and parmesan cheese are readily available. These slices are like Lay's potato chips. I can't just have one. Frequently, I have gone in there thinking I could get out of there with only eating one slice, but I usually can't resist another. -

A great (real) NYC style pizza, the 2nd best I have had so far in the area.
After living in NYC for years, I get the craving for a good slice from time to time, and Brooklyn Pizza is one of only 2 places that will fill that craving in the area. The other being My Cousin's New York Pizzeria.
Most of the other places that claim to be NYC style in the area that I have tried are far from it, but Brooklyn Pizza is the real deal.
I just wish they had more locations. -

Detroit, MI
Nice thin crust pizza that they offer by the slice and by the whole pie. By the whole pie is a little expensive, but it's a crowd pleaser which makes it worth it.
The pizza is cooked in a quaint brick oven. The usually have three or four varieties for offer by the slice. They also make their own sorbet and gelato, and it is the perfect cap to your meal.
Small seating area inside, in good weather, grab a slice and sit outside on their patio or in one of Birmingham's many parks. -

Service has improved! Looks like they canned the employees who had the attitude problems. Pizza seems to be tasting better (maybe as a result) now!

Review from Richard F.
Bloomfield Hills, MI
This is New York Style, but a real New Yorker would spot a slice from here as an attempt rather than the real deal. None the less, it is as close as it gets to NY 'zah as you can find in these parts. And it's good. I am from NY and grew up in Brooklyn, so I can claim to be a NY pizza snob. Oh heck, I am a NY Pizza snob.
Let me describe the place as best as I can. It is very small. There are not a lot of tables and because it seems to attract the mommy and stroller crowd, it can be difficult to find a place to sit. They do have some seating outside which is nice in pleasant weather. And like most Pizzerias in NY, they do serve slices. The slices are nicely displayed cut in small pans under a glass display case withy descriptions of the toppings. So unless you happen to be there when a new pie is cut and put in place, it is difficult to tell how cooled off the slices might be. I always ask to have my slices reheated when I order by the slice and they are happy to oblige. If you have enough people and can agree on what you want, I suggest ordering a pie made fresh because in my opinion, nothing tastes as good as a fresh pie from the oven. Reheats are OK, but fresh is better.
I have noticed that the sausage and pepperoni are beef rather than the more traditional pork based products. So I suspect that the owners have religious dietary preferences. None the less they have selected excellent product and both the sausage and the pepperoni really great taste. Also both are added to the pies as slices. Most Michigan pizza places prepare the sausage as little blobs of meat that cook when the pizza cooks and this makes the pizza greasier. But if the sausage is precooked and cut into slices after cooking, as it is at Brooklyn, the taste is better and the appearance is better too. This is the NY style of preparation. The curst is uniformly crisp and well prepared and just like in NY you can fold a slice and eat it with one hand. John Travolta would approve. One thing that distinguishes this place making it less than NY style is the aspect ratio and size of a slice. The pies are relatively small and so the slices are not huge as a result. I can't tell you the right size for a NY pizza, but I would estimate it to be at least a 14 inch diameter, maybe even bigger. I couldn't tell you how big the pies are at Brooklyn Pizza exactly, but I'd estimate them to be closer to 10 inches. And I should mention that this makes the relative cost of slices pretty high. Oh yes, they also serve Gelatos and they are good too.
So I am able to recommend this place and I enjoy going there. -

After an afternoon of trolling the streets of Birmingham I stopped in Brooklyn Pizza. As soon as I stepped foot in the door it felt as if I had entered a true pizzeria smack dab in the middle of Brooklyn. My slice was just as I wanted it; thin, crispy and hot from the brick oven! The sorbet was tasty as well. I enjoyed my slice outdoors in the light breeze. Not sure if this is a family owned business but it felt like it! Great food, great service and great sorbet!

the kids i use to nanny for wanted brooklyn 3 times a week, so i frequented this place a lot and it's down the street from where i grew up - so i saw it transform from the big chill (ice cream shop) to brooklyn. it's always packed and they have limited seating but some good outdoor spots for the warm months.
wood burning oven pizza goodness and all thin crust (i am so sick of thick chicago-style pizza, yuck). i love the margarita and mushroom (has no sauce, yeah!). this is a good go-to designer pizza spot in the 'ham. the salads are pretty good too and they still have big chill sorbet and ice cream (try the watermelon chip sorbet, so f-in good!). -

Real Wood fire - great thin crust. Closest I have had to authentic Italian pizza in Detroit by a long shot (to be fair some people don't like the "authentic" style so if you don't you won't like this).
Bets by far is the plain tomato and cheese - some of the others ones have a bit much - which overwhelms a thin crust pizza. But darn good. Reading the other reviews I will say I have had a few wrong orders so perhaps that is a common issue - and it is a good warning about cash only! -

I lived in MI for a summer and most of it was spent working, dating a guy I met down there, and hanging out with my aunts kids who were wee ones. This was one of those places that was a staple in their life at the time and became one in mine as well. LOVE the grapefruit sorbet they make. It is freaking amazing. Tangy but sweet with little sugared rined pieces included. Pizza is also quite good. Very thin crust. More of a margarita pizza situation then one with lots of toppings.
