Review from Sean S.
I came here at an odd hour, around 4:30pm, and it was actually in between shifts. Turns out the kitchen was closed until 6pm. But I only wanted a coffee anyway.
I sat down, and the waiter came over and asked if I wanted food. He appologized that the kitchen was closed. That's fine I only wanted coffee. He noticed I was searching around for electric and pointed out an outlet. Cool I thought. I switched seats and shortly there after my espresso came out.
The shot was absolutely perfect if you're wondering. What's more the vibe was chill like a summer cocktail. Light conversation and an easy mood to sit and study. Nobody bothered me, and I could enjoy the corner seat by the window.
I *really* want to come back here for food, but I have to say between the top notch coffee and very friendly service I got when I happened here during *off* hours, I have to say I was impressed. Good times! -

underwhelmed.
sitting here as I type this.
happened upon this place and decided to check it out despite the weak reviews. the menu looked decent, so whatever, we tried it.
I had the fried chicken and waffles (my fave) and my friend got the green eggs thing. the fried chicken tasted like I needed to add salt. I dipped my green eggs into ketchup for taste. the bacon was good I guess but how can you really fuck that up?
our waiter was a douchey hipster douche. he had such an annoying douchey attitude. and stupid hair. he was wearing flannel, of course. he made me feel bad for asking for butter for my waffles and a second plate for my chicken. I had to ask my friend to ask for more water.
additionally - the table next to us asked for ketchup and mustard and he gave it to me. really, dude? he asked you like, less than a minute ago. idiot.
sorry, guys. I wanted to like you and I was even gonna go 3 stars, but the douchey waiter combined with the disappointing food just didn't cut it for me. will not be back. -

This is a 3.5 really -
This is the place to be when you are not exactly sure what you want, but want options. The corn pancakes are tasty, huevos rannchero's are good. the coffee choices are the best.
If i had one wish for "the label", as it's friends call it would be that the service is a little more attentive and perhaps ask me how things are once in a while. -

I am going to write yet another shitty review for this place. Are you all going there because its the only place to get diner quality food in Greenpoint? I think so. ITS SO FILTHY in there. Grab a rag and clean the grease off the walls dudes! I dont bother eating there after my whole fishy tasting pancake situation but the other day I stopped in for a coffee! I figured they cant mess that up right? They serve stumptown and I love them. I got a cup of coffee, a layer of grease residue rose to the top. I asked the guy and he said it was normal. I am sorry that is not normal. Normal if you dont wash your cups properly! I went to add cream and the milk pitchers had crusty dried milk and the sugar all over. EW! CLEAN UP its unsanitary!

This place was pretty decent- cozy, service was pleasantly passable. I ordered the tempeh Reuben, and it was pretty much how I remembered them to taste from the last time I had a real one, nearly 30 years ago. Except the whole tempeh thing. But anyway, vegans, give it a whirl if you're in the neighborhood.

Brooklyn Label is one of my favorite places to grab brunch. Everything I've had on the menu is fantastic. I usually get the Homemade Biscuits and Gravy with a Cafe Au Lait. Great thing about Brooklyn Label is that all the food is prepared fresh and they're always really creative. They even have Green Eggs and Ham! Their dinner menu isn't as amazing, it's still good but it would be my first choice especially since they close at 9pm.

I've been here a couple of times, both for brunch, and I find it to be an enjoyable spot. Yes it's very hipstery, but the menu is mouthwatering and the food doesn't disappoint. I've had the waffle, which was wonderful, and the Greenpoint eggs Benedict. I had to remind the waiter that it came with sausage, and the veg sausage required a fair amount of ketchup. The cardamom coffee is delicious, though it's small, and I would have liked a refill (of normal coffee at least!). But overall I think it's a very nice neighborhood brunch spot. Especially when it's nice out, you can sit outside or in the open-air inside.

Damn good coffee, fresh bagels, and I always seem to leave with a smile over some refreshingly funny thing one of the babes that works there said. (Sorry that's a tad smarmy)

I go to Brooklyn a few times a year to visit family and this place is across the street. Very fortunate for that. I love going to breakfast here. The huevos rancheros and breakfast burrito are fantastic. I will be back

One star for the Lavendar FIzzy drink. It was pretty good.
Other than that, this place doesn't really deserve any stars. It was cluttered with everyone sitting way to close to each other and it was really inconvenient to get to one's table and out of the restaurant without bumping into anyone. Most importantly, I hated my food. I had the green eggs. Also, I tried tempeh bacon. Never again. I actually came here in March, and I still shudder in disgust every time I think of my meal. I've come to refer to my meal as "the worst brunch ever" and for awhile, I just refused to talk about it. I really love food & do not appreciate paying for bad meals, even if I paid half price due to a scoutmob discount. Half price, wasn't even worth it. -

They seem to be working at it... I love the weekend brunch manager (adorable woman with bangs and glasses). Also, some of the newer brunch items are tearin it up. They still need to work on consistency.

I come here for a sit down breakfast 2-4 times a week. Large menu and food has lots of flavor.
Lunch/dinner menu not as good, unfortunately.
Entrees could be a buck or two cheaper, but ownership and service are really friendly and attentive. -

Brooklyn Label is a local favorite of mine. Sunday brunch is always a good time. Waitstaff is super friendly. I find the shabby-chic ambience is perfect for the Greenpoint vibe. Food is consistently good, I try something new almost every time I go and haven't been disappointed yet. Bottomless stumptown coffee is a plus. We are here nearly every Sunday.

Hmmmm.... Haven't decided if I'll be back.
My boyfriend and I used to love Brooklyn Label. We used to come 1-2 times a week, brunch and dinner! The chipotle hot sauce is really yummy.
The problem is the service. My boyfriend likes their burgers, and he always asks for no onion and no french fries. If you bring the fries, we will eat them, and we really don't want to eat the french fries. The last 3 or 4 times we went there and he ordered a burger, it came with onion and fries.
The last time we were there, we discussed beforehand that we were going to be strong and send the fries away if they brought them with the burger. We had to flag our waitress down and ask for ketchup. We had to get up and ask for hot sauce... of course she brought only 2 of them (not the chipotle). At this point we gave up, and just ate our food. When our plates were clean, our waitress finally sort of said she was sorry and asked if she could do anything for us. A little late, don't you think?
If this wasn't like the 3rd or 4th experience like this in a row, maybe we would have just written this off as an off-night... But me and my boyfriend always tip more than 20%, and we really don't deserve this. We go out to eat because we want to relax and have someone else wait on us.
It was a good run, Brooklyn Label! We might be back for breakfast (waitresses are a little more on the ball), but it might be a while. -
Review from Anna T.
2 years ago I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars, but since then it has realllly gone down the pit. I don't know why. Has Brooklyn Label taken itself for granted? Does it think there are no other cool kids on the block in Greenpoint making pancakes, scrambling some damn fine eggs, making more pancakes?
Those are questions for the ages, but for now let me say that this place used to rock. It had the pancakes, the fresh vegetables, the hot coffee. Now the sausage biscuits and gravy come out almost...cold. The eggs benedict has lost its kick. Even the coffee seems but a sad wilting flower. There is no one to turn to to cry and lament because the waiter has disappeared since plopping the gravy in front of you. On top of that, you have to pay more for this disappointment than before. I don't want to give up on this place though. Brooklyn Label, come back to us. -

So this is another one of those Brooklyn restaurants that is a hybrid, in this case, coffee shop by day, restaurant by night. They recently started serving beer and wine, the selection is minimal but it's not bad.
The food seemed not too special. I had the hummus platter since I wasn't very hungry, it was fresh, but there wasn't anything in particular that was wonderful about it. My in-law had fish-n-chips, also not too exciting.
It seems like a good place to read a book and drink a cup of coffee, to be honest. -

Brooklyn Label, You should be lucky I do not live closer, otherwise you would see my face every day.
Mexican Hash - Delicious and Gluten-Free - I usually don't like diced potatoes, but these were cooked perfectly and with the right amount of flavor.
Borderline benedict - My favorite, and now my honey's favorite too. The chipotle hollandaise is to die for. The blue corn muffin makes it all worthwhile. Also gluten-free for all you out there! :)
Lavender Fizzy drink - Can I get the recipe please? I know its lemonade, lavender and seltzer.. but still! Ha

Brooklyn, NY
So, here's the thing:
I'm not into a lot of brunch spots because the variety in choices always lacks diversity. Brooklyn label however brings it to the table in a big way! They always have a really interesting brunch menu, that is both reasonably priced and delicious. Yeah, sure--you're not going to get lightening fast service during the brunch rush, but everyone has always been really friendly, and the food generally does come out pretty fast!!
Also, there's a TON of hot sauce options (major points!!) And they have Stumptown, with a bottomless mug!!
I go here for my morning coffee too, big fan!! They even have the stamp cards happening!! -

La Puente, CA
I loved this place, it was so delicious! I see lots of not great reviews, but it's definitely a great little spot in Greenpoint. It's also vegan and veggie friendly, which of course is expected in this very hipster neighborhood.
I ordered a Brooklyn Scramble which came with scrambled eggs, (obviously, lol) hash browns, and wheat toast. Everything was so delicious and freshly prepared, I ate everything! I also ordered a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice, yum. My brother in law really loved the salsa which I did not try, but I guess will strongly recommend.
My only real complaint would be that my server wasn't all that awesome. I'm reading in other reviews complaints about service too. She did her job, but not very quickly. She also wasn't very friendly or attentive, so minus half a star there. I had great food and company though, so whatever. Other than that great food and cute little spot, I will definitely be back. -

I have eaten brunch at Brooklyn Label about 3-4 times now and I've always had a positive experience.
The waffle was excellent, as well as the benedict. I really love that their menu has those classic dishes you sometimes crave (french toast, huevos rancheros), AND more unique choices in case you're feeling experimental.
The last time I went I ordered the Sweet Potato Hash which consisted of sweet potatoes, peppers, chicken sausage, eggs, toast. It was awesome!
They are also very veggie friendly : ) My boyfriend enjoyed their Veggie Burger -
Review from Kassy M.
5 stars for my iced chai latte. It was delicious, and tasted a wee bit different from any other chai latte I've had before!
Unfortunately the service was TERRIBLE. It was very clear that I was dealing with a cashier who JUST started working there. I had to tell him three times that I was also getting a plain croissant. Then he kind of gave me this look which was obvious that he was waiting for me to hand him my money, when he hadn't even told me how much the total was. I asked him and he said "umm your total is..." and went to the computer, pressed some buttons for literally a whole minute, and said "Eight dollars." At which point I said, "Wait, EIGHT dollars?" and he said "oh, actually..." and went back to the screen, stared at it for another 30 seconds, and told me "$6.75." At this point I didn't even care if it was accurate or not, because it sounded more believable than $8.
I'm giving them 4 stars though, because the barista made me a very tasty latte and I really liked the atmosphere of the place. It's bigger than it seems from the outside and I would like to come back for brunch or dinner! -

My review is more dedicated to Brunch as I have read other reviews on dinner service and need to check it out for myself.
That being said, this is probably my favorite brunch place in Brooklyn. I know that is a tall order so Ill just say its the best brunch place in Greenpoint. There is usually a line right when the place opens. They have great outdoor seating and nice staff. Ive never really had an issue with the waiters with the exception of taking too long on the water but the food more than makes up for this.
The food is simply amazing for brunch. They have something for everyone and everything is good. I usually default to Benedict over salmon as its my favorite. Also the coffee at this place is just awesome. Im not really a coffee person but I always order some sort of coffee no matter the weather outside.
The inside of this place is very chill and low key. I like the unfinished look and the vibe is always relaxing. I wish they would add Mimosa's and Bloody mary's to their selections but I believe they are working on it with the liquor license. That would pretty much lock this venue in for me over my fellow Greenpoint brunch spots.
Well that and Habbitat! :) -

Yum! My boyfriend and I went here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. They have a great selection of flavored Italian sodas, and we wanted to try ten different things on the menu. I had an amazing crab salad served in avocado halves. Would definitely go back.

Went for brunch on a saturday and really enjoyed it. There was no wait for a table and the service was friendly and pretty quick. The food was good and the bloody Mary was excellent. Didn't have coffee but the selection looked really good. My only complaint was there was no brunch drink specials. It was a bit overpriced but still pretty good overall.

Yes, yes, and yes. I have had brunch here twice and with all of the amazingggggg brunch places in New York, the fact that I am willing to repeat says a lot about the deliciousness of Brooklyn Label. Coffee drinks = outstanding. Really inventive coffee concoctions, as well as tea and hot chocolate. Their specials are RIDICULOUS. The first time I went I got cherry babka french toast. It was as insanely tasty and sweet as it sounds. And this last time I got artichoke scrambled eggs, with the words parmesan, butter and cream in the description. Done and done. I am all about this place, even though the first time I went a guy spilled boiling hot coffee all over my flip-flopped foot and was just like, oh sorry. Yes, a guy that worked there. It wasn't water, it was coffee, and it did not feel good. Yet I still managed to enjoy myself and return again. What a martyr.

great neighborhood diner. with great coffee. servers yeah are patchy - the dude who never smiles on the weekends rocks tho! brunch and lunch place the local gossip is once they got rid of the manager and the owner took over it became a better place, nicer and more organized. it's easy got wifi - but ban cells like that. food always good but once for me and that was 1 year ago when they 'transitioned'. use it and enjoy if they are full go to Mrs kimas/river barrel down the block on kent and franklin.

I've only had brunch or a snack here but every time, it's been consistently good. The cocoa menu is great; I like the Mexican hot chocolate made with soy that has chile and cinnamon. They serve Stumptown, which, we all know can be a bit inconsistent depending where you get coffee from, but I've never had a bad cup at Brooklyn Label.
Now for the food: The curried tofu with potatoes for brunch is excellent. That's actually the only thing I've ever ordered food-wise because it calls to me. I wake up on sunday's wishing I had a brunch partner to eat it with (not share it though; I'm stingy). -

Brooklyn, NY
I've been living in Greenpoint for 2 years, and this has been one of my go-to spots while I'm working on school related things, or to bring visiting family and friends.
Being a creature of habit, esp when it comes to food, I usually get the same thing each time I go:
veggie burger (i like the combo of the burger, option for soy cheese and the salad that comes with it as opposed to fries. not a fries fan so that's refreshing to me.)
mandarin mocha (i really like this caffeinated beverage, esp. with soy milk. it has just the right amount of orange zest to give it an extra kick.)
The Brooklyn Cocoa (with orange zest IS REALLY effing good.)
Brooklyn Label Granola (love all the fruit and nuts mixed together with yogurt)
Waffles (I've never ordered them myself, but I've tasted other peoples' and I've always enjoyed)
Watermelon juice (love watermelon, esp in the summertime. It's very refreshing and not too sweet.)
The only thing I wasn't head over heels for was the iced coffee. It's one of those things I've had before and I'd have again if nothing else was offered, but it wasn't anything spectacular for me.
The service I've always found to be 'meh.' Not terrible, could use improvement but it's not going to stop me from going back. More than half the time I go I just wind up sitting at the counter, headphones on, sipping coffee and working. -

This would be a great place to bring friends or family who are visiting. -
Review from Crispin K.
Brooklyn, NY
The food is hit or miss (usually hit), and the service the same (less so, I'm afraid) but even when they're not on the top of their game it's still comforting to have Brooklyn Label in the neighborhood.
That said, we just came back from a brunch where the steak in my girlfriend's salad was mostly well-done rather than the medium rare she'd requested.
And the music wasn't terribly brunch-friendly either, even for Brooklyn. Shortly after we arrived, "1969" by the Stooges came on. It's a song I love on an album I love, but at such a high volume might not be conducive to a leisurely brunch. That was followed by "I Wanna Be Your Dog," which meant they were planning to play the entire album. Almost immediately, I remembered that the next song on the album was "We Will Fall," a monotonous drone over 10 minutes in length. Whoever was in charge of the music realized it too, though not until after the song had already played for a few minutes. It abruptly stopped, and then the music went from distracting and loud to shitty and loud.
Look, we've all spent time during our youth sitting in some suburban wood-paneled basement, possibly in an altered state, while shooting pool and listening to a third-rate Black Sabbath ripoff. But then you cast off the shackles of teen angst and get on with your lives. Brooklyn Label became that suburban basement thanks to the lousy music selection this afternoon.
I'll certainly go back, but perhaps I'll call ahead just to hear what's playing in the background before I do.
___________________________
Fuck it, I'm not going back. I did go back and it sucked way more than it didn't suck, and that's enough of that nonsense. If I want consistent inconsistency just a few steps from my front door, I'll go somewhere cheaper. -

Brooklyn, NY
This place is hit or miss for me. I've only had their brunch--a few good dishes and a few not so good dishes. The service is pretty good and friendly, and the place has a good vibe. At night, although they do serve dinner, I like it more for it's quiet coffee-shop atmosphere with free wifi, and it's a good place to get chai if you are a fan.

Food is fresh, delicate, and delicious. I ordered their eggs with artichokes twice, and I loved every time. Perfect place to treat a guest. However, it's little pricey. I wouldn't be able to go every weekend.

Service here is kinda wack. Waitresses act like they're doing you a favor and not doing their job. That said their coffee is great. Brunch is excellent! Lunch is really good, I recommend the Cuban or tuna sandwich. Their coleslaw is also really good.
Whatever you do do not go here for dinner.. I dunno how their brunch and lunch menus are so diverse and delicious but their dinner menu is bland and boring. I could have made a better meal at home. Next time I will. -
Review from M S.
Brooklyn, NY
I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times over the past couple of years. The food is alright, but pricey. It's particularly frustrating how the brunch menu is significantly more expensive than the lunch of dinner menus for portions of the same size, but I suppose they're trying to capitalize on their most popular offerings. Mostly I'm presently angry because I went in the other day and was seated promptly, but after twenty minutes passed without a server so much as acknowledging myself and my girlfriend, we got up and left.

Brooklyn, NY
So - my wife and I returned to this place for brunch after almost two years, as we had a truly awful brunch. But the day before, I saw a long line out front and said to myself - "wow, maybe they shaped up! Good for them."
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
The food was so spectacularly awful, so flavorless, so poorly prepared, that it's funny now, but made me so angry when I was there. They charge about 10% MORE than better places in Williamsburg. My wife's "sweet potato hash" was nothing but cut up sweet potatoes with under cooked onions and peppers. My "biscuits and sausage gravy" had some cold grayish slop on them, that was COLD.
They even screwed up a cafe au lait with Stumptown coffee!
Then why are people lining up to go in here? Why is this place still in business?
Location, and, interestingly enough desperation. For the people priced out of Williamsburg to feel that they have their own bougie brunch place to go to. And it's sad - all these sad lemming new economy people feeling that they have to recreate Williamsburg, while greenpoint has it's own style and substance all it's own.
The location is fantastic, and its in a historic building, which to uninitiated, gives it cache. But stay away from this place. It is bad news - go to a diner on Manhattan Avenue - you'll pay half the price for food that is twice is good. -
Review from Lexie S.
Brooklyn, NY
This place is really overhyped. The food's not that great, the ambiance isn't special, and the last time I was there we sat for almost half an hour without so much as a server glancing at our table. We got up and left, and no one seemed to notice. Unacceptable.

New York, NY
Spending sundays in Green Point is perhaps my favorite weekend activity. Today we happened upon this place, a long time favorite of my famous friend Adam Chanler Berat, a broadway star. Although he couldn't speak because he had to rest his voice for the show, his body language was very suggestive towards the biscuits and gravy.
My mute friend was right on par. The sausage gravy is seasoned in a way that is reminiscent of Chicago Deep Dish pizza! The hash-browns are delicious as well. This place really does a good job of putting a BKLYN flare on traditional northeastern diner fare. A healthy balance of good taste and raw goodness.
My only complaints had to do with the slow service and generally inhospitable waitress. Also, as good as the orange juice was, five dollars is a but much for nature's nectar.
See you next Greenpoint Sunday Yelp! -

A bulleted list for a mixed bag:
- The food is consistently good, but usually leaning towards VERY good. Your out of town visitors will love having brunch here as long as they don't mind waiting about 20 mins for a table.
- Stumptown coffee is great, but so are their cocoa concoctions. Get them to stay or to go.
- You can easily have a chatty brunch here with a friend, a quiet dinner, or sit at the bar and be a laptop jockey anytime of day if you work well with a fair amount of background noise. The staff is equally accommodating to any of these types of patrons.
- The service is pretty friendly. At worst, it can sometimes be inattentive, but it is typically better than decent.
- There will always be a certain percentage of stereotypical douchey patrons. If you are having a chatty brunch, you will probably tune it out. If it's at a quieter time, one of those douches will inevitably need to talk loudly and incessantly about their last band, their blog, where they plan to get drunk later or some art show. These are the people that make you sneer when you see/ think about "hipsters". Depending on how unavoidable this is or on my mood, this is sometimes irksome, and sometimes amusing.
- The food is maybe a smidge expensive, but it's really not bad. For the quality of the meal, it is not objectionable. -

Hackensack, NJ
We were wondering around Brooklyn waiting for my girlfriend's hair appointment and it was unusually hot for April. We turned on Java Street thinking that it would be funny to find a coffee shop on Java Street. And lo, there it was, past a bunch of cute residential houses and a fire hydrant painted like the Italian flag. An oasis on the corner. And I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu--lavender lemon fizzy. Y'all...I want one right now and it's 11:24 pm and I'm in Jersey. And it crossed my mind that maybe I should drive into Brooklyn on my day off tomorrow just to get one. It was the perfect drink for a hot day and super cute inside. Will definitely be back to try everything else on the menu...
mmm.....lemon fizzy....*dreams about lemon fizzy*
