A grown up, more chic, and additionally, more expensive, version of Urban Outfitters.

Hmm... I'm sure that doesn't sound appealing at all, does it? Unfortunate, because I truly mean it in the best possible light.

Here's what I can say and perhaps you'll get my drift:

    The Staff: Fabulously fashionable
    The Décor: Hip, edgy, industrial
The Clothing: Cooler than thou, but never trying too hard
    The Quality: Worth the upsell
    The Accessories: Ample and worthwhile

See? An Urban Out-whatever all growsed up is actually mighty fine, indeed. Be cool without looking cheap.

Best Buys: Blouses, Buttondowns, Blazers, Bags

I really like Brooklyn Industries.  This weekend they had a 30% off the whole store sale, and it was a great time to buy gifts.  I find everyone there helpful, and the clothes really hold up.
It's a great place for a last minute dress, teeshirt or sweater.  They're known for their bags, which seem super durable, and I really want one!

I want to like Brooklyn Industries a lot more, I really do, but somehow their stuffs don't work out greatly for me. They have tons of cute stuff - skirts, dresses, coats, etc. They also have some very cool bags, hats, wallets. And a great sale room. Everything looks great on display but not on me (sad).

Regardless - I am a fan. I did end up buying something here. Their t-shirts are cool, if you're into that. Super friendly staffs.

Discovered the place 'by accident' on a very cold and snowy day in December.
    Loved it.
Bought one of my Christmas presents there.
    Totally planning on coming back.

Okay - this is not cheap. By any standards. But items are of good quality, unique, fun and to top it all of - excellent customer service. The older I get, the more important it becomes to me. I like it when people chit-chat with me, ask me questions, give me suggestions and S-M-I-L-E. Call me old-fashioned if you want but that is gold.
The world would be such a better place if people were simply friendlier - especially when you are buying something from them.

Great choice of dresses, skirts, coats, tops and every winter accessories you can think of. Cute and whimsical tee-shirts. Adorable dressing room. They also give out pretty cool tote bags when you buy something.

Shopping on Milwaukee keeps getting better and better.

I bought a bag here that broke after 1 use.  Seeing how it comes with a lifetime warranty, I sent it back at my own expense for repair.

This item was deemed unrepairable after many weeks of waiting and I was offered a store credit.  Don't want the store credit for another broken item, just want my money back for the $100 bag I never got to use.

First experience with Brooklyn Industries and not a good one at that.

Cute little store with gear for both men and women. I loved the different dresses and tops they had but ended up buying some super soft t-shirts. The girl who was helping me was so nice; we ended up talking about food (surprising, I know) and she gave me some awesome places to check out nearby. We tried one of them out and she was NOT exaggerating; it really was 'slap yo momma' good. Four stars for their great clothing selection and even better customer service.

I had a fantastic experience in this store.  I was the only person there, as they had just opened, and the sales guy gave me the perfect amount of attention.  He didn't hound me, but he was helpful.

There were lots of great pieces there that were my style, and even though I'd say the store is a tad bit overpriced, I was happy to pay what I did for what I got.  Don't miss the sale stuff by the dressing rooms!

Overall, good clothes, great style and FANTASTIC sales people.  Totally friendly, incredibly helpful, not pushy but he did have some good suggestions.  I really enjoyed being the only customer in the store - and sometimes that can be a bit daunting!

I will be shopping here again soon!

This place is awesome. They have quirky t-shirts and awesome bags (backpacks, messenger, purses, etc). I've heard their bags are also super sturdy since they are meant for everyday use.

Their clothing selection is awesome, too. It's urban without being too hipster. I go here often for t-shirts and dresses. If you sign up for their email newsletter they send you advanced notice of their sales which are where it's at!

Conveniently located on my street, finally stopped in today.  Basically I found a dozen things I'd like to buy, my bank account thanks me that I stopped after one.

I like the styles here A Lot!  So, it will definitly be a staple place for clothing.  Prices are fair I think, not cheap, but not outrageously expensive for uniquely designed clothes by an independent small design collective.

Sales people are super nice and helpful....the music was kind of loud and overwhelming..but all in all it's a great addition to Milwaukee...so much better than a lame huge chain store like the disaster happening on Damen in Bucktown.

Excellent customer service! Loved a dress, wasn't in stock in my size, and I need it by Friday. The lovely sales woman (Kat, Kitty? - I don't know, but she's fab) called the Portland store where there is one lone XS in stock, put it on hold for me until it can be shipped out on Monday, and is going to figure out how to get it to me by Friday.

Again, I love the styles at this store, heavy fabric dresses and jumpers, wool skirts, great hats and handbags...LOVE.

The store is, in a word, edgy.  Edgy for me, can either work or it cannot.  As a former riotgrrrl/ record store clerk, I still have an affinity for cutting edge clothes that scream Trendster.  And then, sometimes, I look at edgy clothes and think, "I was a punk before you were a punk."

The selection here walked the line.  There were some pieces that I adored while others caused me to raise my nose in the air and think "notsomuch".

I didn't end up buying because nothing fit.  This is often the case at many boutiques - there aren't many girls that are 4'11".  I might come back the next time that I am hanging out on Division.

Maybe it's because I cut an imposing figure compared to the svelte, pixie-like saleswomen in the store at the time. Maybe it's because I was wearing all one color. Maybe it's because they didn't have all that much in my size.

Whatever it was, the salespeople at this store -completely ignored me.-

And this isn't to be whiny, as if they were both busy. They were chatting idly with each other and there were no other customers in the store. Why ignore the one person in your store at 3pm on a Tuesday? I don't know.

Cute clothes, but rather high prices if it's not on sale. I won't be back.

So, that sassy 15' peacock lap top bag I bought back in June? Good thing it has a lifetime warrantee, because while I was in Santa Fe, one of the snaps fell off. But here is how easy it was to remedy:

Me (having just purchased a super cute jacket from the HOT sales room they've got right now): "I bought a lap top bag here in June, and the snap on the pocket fell off."

Salesgirl: "Which one? You know they have a lifetime warrantee."

I show her: "But I know I don't have my receipt, is that okay?"

Salesgirl: "No problem. When you bring the bag back, we'll just give you this one." She takes down my name and phone number on a sticky pad, attaches it to the new lap top bag, and puts it in the closet.

I return the next day and exchange my bag.

    Sweet!

"Yay! I'm a fan." is a great way to describe this place.  I was in search of a bag as I'm returning to school this fall.  I was reluctant to buy a backpack - I like to think I'm cooler than that.

I looked at a few shoulder bags.  All are designed to fit at 15" laptop, but few shoulder bags have room for much else, ie books.

Fortunately, the helpful sales staff lead me astray to the wonderful world of backpackland.  I know I'll be happier here, and the young lady showed me the bag she uses for school and its merits.  I was sold.

And even though I was already sold, she gave me the icing on the cake - 15% discount for students AND the bag has a lifetime warranty.  Good deal.  I'd definitely stop back in should I need another type of bag or new backpack in the future.

It seemed a bit odd going into Brooklyn Industries in Chicago......but I love that store so much we had to pop in. My friend found a bunch of cute clothes on the clearance rack, and even scored one of BI's oh so cute totes for half price.
I am writing this review to comment on the super friendly, sales representatives! Great customer service, very down to earth and great non invasive, laid back sales techniques!
Keep up the good work and the positive attitudes ladies and gents cuz you got a good thing going.

There is one nice guy here who always gives his honest opinion about how things look on, and there's one nice girl here who always says I need a smaller size than I actually wear.  (She's always right; I think they subscribe to the concept of vanity sizing.)  Oh, also, the staff will generally leave you alone and let you wander and look around for a really long time.  (I like to look around at stores for a really long time.  It's part of my charm.)

This place totally reminds me of the Gap in the very early 1990s, when you never, ever bought anything on sale because it'd inevitably be, like, $19.95 two weeks later.  (Maybe the Gap is still like that... been a while.)  The stuff's okay, with the occasional standout piece, and the men's section is slightly better than the women's.

This past weekend, a dress I'd been eyeing for weeks finally went from $78 to $52, but they didn't have my size.  When I asked for help, the guy working kind of shrugged and said, "We're sold out of it."  I get that Brooklyn Industries isn't Marc Jacobs or Nanette Lepore (both of whom have happily ordered in pieces from other stores when my size was sold out), but he offered no solutions.  As I was walking out the door, he said, "Oh, that dress might still be on our website!"

Sure enough, it was still available on the website.  I found a coupon code for 30% off any purchase, spent half of the original price on the dress and shipping, and was all, "Bwah hah hah hah hah, Brooklyn Industries.  I got you!  I got you SO GOOD." for hours afterwards.

Really cool store.  Go straight to the back if you don't want to spend a lot.  Otherwise check out the front.  My friend found some really unique and stylish pieces here in the women's section.  They have some really trendy jackets that are worth the $80 price tag.

Loved this store, the guy working there was also very knowledgeable and helpful.  Definitely check this one out.

I get annoyed by T-shirts that cost $40 but there was a dinosaur shirt here last summer that I had to have and it was 50% off so that was excellent! It was two dinosaurs fighting. PERFECTION!

I hardly ever stop in here because I don't want to pay $$ for stuff that will just end up on my floor and the window displays never lure me in so I'm rarely tempted. The people who work here have always been really nice when I have come in though and that's a huge bonus.

Not really digging the new style as well as the cheaply-made line.  Their sales section in the back isn't much of a sale, either.  Plus, there are too many SAs roaming around, and the store is already small as it is!

I would never go back to this store, unless to return what I've just bought.  After the groupon was only good on full-price items, and most of the store was on sale (like 1% off), I finally found a wallet that fit my needs.  Or so I thought.  When I got home and began transferring items, I found that my credit cards and license didn't even fit into the pockets!  I do not recommend this store!

I just wasn't impressed.  There weren't too many things that stood out for me other than the coats.  I think they sell their own branded clothes here.  They also sell accessories that are pretty cool, but it's still pricey.  The sales associates are nice, but with other trendy stores on the street it will be tough to get me back in.  I like what they did putting Obama head masks over the mannequin for election week though.

Hipster prices but not the attitude! A really nice girl named Mia helped me out and although I wasn't planning on spending 100 dollars on a dress I did.  Not exactly a place for someone who is broke and in grad school to shop but none the less cute stuff.  It is a basic black dress that I can wear a lot so hoping its worth the 100 bucks plus the 8% interest I will be paying on my credit card.

Looks can be deceiving. I never went into this store because I thought it was a hipster/skate/punk /t-shirt shop. However after reading a review on Yelp and then going to the website and seeing a couple of adorable dresses and some nice down jackets on sale, I figured it was worth a look-see. Topeka! I mean Urethra...I mean Eureka!  Said dresses and said down jackets were in the store, on sale and in my size! I chose one of each and walked out of Brooklyn Industries one happy chick! Super friendly and helpful staff plus really cute clothes makes BI one of my new fave stores.

I happened to walk in while checking out Wicker Park for my first time.  And by the way, I really loved the  neighborhood's chill, hipster vibe.  Brooklyn Industries has so many great things: bags, jackets, wallets, etc. I was really digging all the styles of the clothing for both men and women.  The sale items were super great too.  The hubby got a really cool hoody for $19 (originally $64) - what a steal!  I got a super cute peacock tote bacg for $29 (originally $58) and all their bags have a lifetime warranty.  The workers were really friendly and helpful too.  I'm keeping this shop on the top of new faves list.

I'm surprised by all the "hating" of this store.  Trust me, the service here is a thousand times better than the Brooklyn Industries in NYC!

Loved all the stuff I bought, all on sale, and at a GREAT discount!  My original handbag that I bought at the original store in NY (about 4 years ago) still goes a long way and always gets a compliment.

Cute clothes that not everyone in middle America will be wearing (let's just say it's not like a Gap or J.Crew)...

Swell store.  Super friendly staff who will totally engage you and chit chat without pushing crap on you.  A nice change from the douchebag teenagers at the American Apparel up the street who ignore everyone as they twist the fringe on their keffiyahs.

Nice clothes at approachable price points.  (Especially when they're on sale) Interesting without going over the edge.  My only beef is that I always see items that I want on the website that aren't in the store.

Bonus:  Awesome selection of messenger bags (more attractive and practical than either Timbuk2 or Manhattan Portage) and they apparently have a lifetime guarantee.  Haven't had any probs with mine but nice to know!

So I wound up ordering a sweet shirt from BI's website. Long story short, it came in the wrong size and the website was out of stock in my size. I called Mia at the local store in Wicker Park, and she called the shipping depot who then tracked down a shirt in my size and shipped it to the store. I was able to go into the store and exchange a shirt I had bought from their website. This is pretty uncommon for a boutique-style store, so big ups to Mia at Brooklyn Industries.

I stumbled across this store while looking resale/thrift stores along Milwaukee and really enjoyed it. My only hesitation for shopping there would be some of the prices, but they were having a sale at the time (designer shirts were $20 instead of $50) so I was happy to get a few things. The people that work there are really helpful, and I look forward to returning to see their latest designs and possibly getting a messenger bag. Quality stuff.

yes, this label is kind of pricey. but, it is decent quality stuff AND it's also one of those places that when it marks stuff down, it REALLY marks stuff down. it isn't very often that i can find a cute bag and matching wallet for less than $50. i did today at this store. i'm pretty pumped on the lifetime warranty. aaaand not one but two of the people working there helped me out. maybe it was just the warm/sunny weather bringing out the chatty in everyone, but whatever i don't care.
