    LONG ISLAND CITY, NY

    4.0 star rating

A pretty close walk from Long Island City where I live...

My husband and I decided to walk here for some ice cream one Friday night. We were the only customer at 8:30pm (btw, they close at 9pm), than later--four people showed up 10 minutes before closing.

I am all about ice cream and I can seriously eat ice cream all day! My friends have told me about Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and the hype. BUT, I disagree as I really enjoyed the ice cream here! The ice cream was extremely good--very smooth and creamy. We shared a 2-scoop cup of vanilla and vanilla chocolate chunk. I think I've had better vanilla ice cream; however, the vanilla chocolate chunk was SO good!! I wanted to buy some to-go but stopped myself. They only offer 8 flavors--I might try coffee or peach & cream next time I'm back.

The girl who was working gave us literally 4 scoops of ice cream as she packed it into the cup! So generous! My husband and I were so impressed that we tipped her (which we usually don't do...). Generosity = Happy Customers!

The price is reasonable, especially for the amount that they give you. 1 "scoop" is 4 dollars, 2 "scoop" is 6 dollars, and 3 "scoop" is 7 dollars.

If I didn't live in LIC, I probably won't venture out all the way here to get ice cream--maybe once in a while. But since we live so close, we'll definitely come back!

Side Note: Cash only and it's a pretty small place. Not ideal for group venturing unless you are going to take it to-go.

    Price: $$

I came here in February of 2012 so there was no line at all. I agree with the other reviewers - I expected more of a variety.

Even though there were only five flavors to choose from, I can't remember if I got the strawberry or butter pecan flavor -_- it was yummy.....but I think all ice cream is delicious sooo...

Anyway, it's a cute place to go to but I wouldn't go out of my way to get ice cream from here.

The space is small. There is seating available for maybe 3-4 people inside.

Cute place. Great view of south manhattan.

    I got butter pecan.

    1) not many varieties of favors, but it's a small shop so what can you expect.
    2) price is cheap
    3) staff is sweet....get it?... No? Okay
    4) best thing on the menu is vanilla chocolate chunk

    Such a cute little place!

): Was disappointed by the small variety of flavors, as it is a ice cream "factory," and I expected a ton of delicious and unique flavors. Maybe they have different flavors on different days, but...

I got the peaches n cream. I liked it, but it is nothing compared to whole peaches and vanilla ice cream. It barely even tasted like peaches. But I did like that it wasn't very sweet. I would've hated it if it was sugary sweet.

My favorite is the coffee. It was thick, and bitter and tasted amazing. If you're not a big fan of dark roasted coffee with just a hint of sugar, then don't get this hahaha

Good ice cream. Not orgasmic and mind-blowing ice cream, but it's good.

I can't say much about decor. I mean, it's near the water, a park, boats, etc. It's a romantic area, so I think that's helpful somehow for groups/dates.

There's a decent variety of flavors. It's an ice cream shop after all. I think I tried some sorbets here and there (more so because i shouldn't have too much dairy), the pistachios and coffee ice creams. Like I said before, pretty good.

    Minus two stars:
-Unless you have a car, or just happen to be around the area that day, I would not recommend going out of your way JUST to get ice cream. it's not worth the trip. Area's too out of access of public transportation.
-Ice cream was good, but not SUPER-OMG-MUST-HAVE good
-A tad expensive, I think. i mean, if you get it into your head that it's "gourmet" ice cream, it sorta evens out the price if you have some disposable income to spare, or trying to impress a date.

I would recommend this place to others if they're around the area that day. But it's not a must try. Just a decent place to go for.

What is so great about this place? The staff is horrible. The guy barely let me taste anything! He got mad after two tries of flavors. I wanted to try both chocolates before getting something and he was mumbling under his breath I didnt even want to try anymore. I am not supposed to be eating dairy anyways. The ice cream is really NOTHING special. Its not even cool. the place was not that clean and flies were following me everywhere. UGH

    $4.50 for a small? NO THANK U

YAYYYYYY!!!!!!! My sister decided to take me here last minute, and it was well worth the walk!

The flavors are simple: chocolate, vanilla, coffee, peaches n' cream, butternut pecan, and chocolate chip.  Although they don't have a lot of selection, they switch up the flavors depending on the day that you're there, and they make up for it in creaminess.

Apparently they opened a second store due to the high level of demand.  You can also buy a HUGE tub of ice cream to take home...*fights the urge*

A single scoop with a waffle cone will cost about $4, and a small sundae about $7.50.  My sister got the sundae with chocolate sauce and roasted pecans...mmmmm HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I'm gonna cut right to the chase on this review because the Butter Pecan Ice Cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory is absolutely, without a doubt, THE BEST!

I'm really glad that "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" gave the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory their due props, because we knew their Butter Pecan Ice Cream was the best as soon as we tried it.

When we were in NYC in 2008, we took a cab to Brooklyn to try out Grimaldi's Pizzeria. After lunch, we planned on taking a stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge back into Manhattan. Fortunately destiny unwittingly ran us right smack dab into the creamiest, butteriest, nuttiest, hand-made butter pecan ice cream we've ever had the pleasure of trying.

The shop itself isn't much to look at, but when you have ice cream THAT good, who gives a damn. Now I can't attest to the quality of any of their other flavors, but I'm sure they'd be pretty damn good on their own merits. Still, I simply can't see myself getting anything other than their Butter Pecan Ice Cream. Why mess with perfection?

So the next time you find yourself in Brooklyn, grab yourself a truly exquisite ice cream and take a nice leisurely stroll across the Brooklyn Bride. I can't think of a better way to spend an evening.

Long long time ago, someone told me that there's an ice cream shop at the end of the Brooklyn Bridge. I've walked and jogged to Brooklyn before but never found this shop. Turns out, inside the blue lighthouse lies an ice cream shop. Pretty nifty. I love the secret hideaway.

They claim that they have naturally made ice cream, but it certainly didn't taste like one. Also, they don't have much flavors. I got coffee on a poorly made cone. The glue was stuck on the cone. Coffee was not creamy. And at near-bottom scoop, I was wondering how long have you kept the ice cream in the freezer?

I understand that it's winter and not so many people eat ice cream, but to charge $4 per scoop; $6 for 2 scoops, I really expected better ice cream and quality.

And like the other yelper, I saw flies too. It's January!!! Um...where's that C? Where are those health inspectors? Probably missed the place for a lighthouse, huh?

Thought I'd throw in my two cents. I'd stumbled upon this place last summer by accident while wandering around the Brooklyn Bridge Park area. I had heard of the name before and knew this place was somewhat famous. Being a big ice cream fan, I stopped in. Apparently the ice cream is supposed to be hand made.
Surprisingly, the flavors offered were very basic - stuff like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and coffee ice cream.
Well, I had a couple scoops of the vanilla. It tasted very creamy with the right amount of sweetness. The ice cream was good. However, I have enjoyed store bought ice cream just as much. Maybe my palate is not good enough to detect the difference - just my honest opinion.

1 scoop is $3.50, 2 scoops $5.50 so it is a bit expensive. I doubt I will be back.

#63 This place is the perfect dessert destination after pizza at Grimaldi's. The storefront is super cute and I love their signage. However, walking in, the ambiance is underwhelming. Their chocolate counter was empty, except for a few souvenir T-shirts stuffed in the display cases. There was also a huge fridge filled with ice cream and an empty Vitamin Water fridge, both of which contributed to an unattractive sight.

The workers were friendly and chill, though maybe a bit too chill for an adorable place like this. We ordered the Vanilla Ice Cream Sundae with hot fudge and caramel topped with almonds ($8). The ice cream (3 scoops) was light and refreshing with a distinct vanilla flavor. The hot fudge mixed well with the caramel syrup and the almonds provided the perfect crunch to end each fluffy bite.

Overall, they really know what they're doing in terms of ice cream. However, I was incredibly disappointed at the fact that they used plastic cups, plates, utensils, everything - even for those dining inside. If they have any concern for the environment, they should invest a bit of money and buy some real utensils, which should add to a more quaint ice cream shop feel.

It's good ice cream, but its like, when have you had an ice cream and said, this this is horrible im going to put it down and not eat it. (exclude the times when u try a new/weird/exotic flavor)

    yea thats what i thought.
it's good ice cream, but 4 bucks a scoop is a little too much, i rather pay for gelato then. the peach n cream is a little bland, i also got butter pecan, which is great and ultra sweet.

again, do it once kind of thing just to say u've eaten there.

Though a little out of the way, this ice cream spot is a must visit if you're in the Greenpoint area. Top quality ice cream and a reasonable flavor selection. Go with Choc Chip or Butter Pecan, both are delicious.

A note to readers and reviewers. This location is in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This is not the Brooklyn Bridge Park location. Not sure which one you're at? Look outside the door, is there a bridge? No? Then you're in Greenpoint. There are no lines here, just a friendly staff and small seating area.

As I live in Queens, I have not been to the actual Ice Cream Factory shop, but I did get to try some of their icecream at the Yelp Snow Ball. In addition, at the actual location there is always a line out the door, which is another reason why I haven't been there to try it.

Anyway! The main point is that this ice cream is amazing. I tried the Candy Cane flavor; it had candy cane chunks in it! Sooooo good. Since I have tried it I have to say that next time I am in that part of Brooklyn I will actually wait in that long line just to get some more of that amazing ice cream!

Came during the middle of the week and the atmosphere was definitely lacking. We shared our ice cream spaced with conked out Asian tourists who were giving one another the cold shoulder and a group of kitchen line cooks eating dinner in the corner. Perhaps the line is longer when its warmer out? It was a bit chilly that night...

Triple scoop of strawberry, chocolate, and coffee with toasted almonds. I was curious about the wet nuts (doused in maple syrup, get your mind out of the gutter!)

Very creamy, not too sweet and absolutely sensational! Take a walk over the Bridge, eat a pizza pie at Grimaldi's and then walk over to the 'Factory - you won't regret it!

Sorry, it is completley over rated! It is not worth the lines or hype! I have had peach, Vanilla and Chocolate. The peach was especially bland. It is not worth going out of your way to visit and it is unsanitary. The bathrooms are atrocious! There is a sign that says employees must wash their hands which means they are using this bathroom! It is really dirty! I know they wear gloves but they handle the ice cream and the money with the gloves so it kind of defeats the purpose of having gloves! I am not a fan!

The vanilla ice cream is heavenly. Rich and creamy without being overly sweet, such that the vanilla flavor came through. I also went a second time and had the vanilla chocolate chunk ice cream (sort of like chocolate chip ice cream). Ironically, I was not very impressed with that. I'm sticking with the simple goodness of vanilla.

The line can be long, but it moves pretty quickly.

I'm not one to wait in line, I hate lines and usually think hey I can get this somewhere else. Hey guess what, this is pretty hard to top. Well at least they can top it with sprinkles or hot fudge.

This place has a handful of flavors, so don't expect to walk in and see a huge cooler with container after container of flavors, get over it they don't need to do that. You can get a cone, dish, shake or sundae. The line moves along pretty quickly, so don't get discouraged, even though there is usually two people scooping.

The place is small, there are a couple of tables to the right as you enter, and they do have rest rooms, they're onesies, so to preserve order on busy days, which is pretty much all the time, you'll find a guy standing guard at the little hallway to the restrooms.

Now for the goods, they're great...yes Tony the Tiger Great! You could smell the cream, and perhaps eggs. I don't know, my ice cream at home smells like freezer, so just getting a whiff of this stuff is a treat, the texture is smooth and velvety.

I visited three ice cream places over a few days, two got reviewed, this one, and Grom. The third Tasty Delight can't compare, it's okay, it's tasty and cold, maybe low on calories, but if you don't enjoy it, why bother.

BICF is right under the bridge, I walked the bridge to get there, and back plus I did a bunch of other walking so if your visiting NYC or Brooklyn, go ahead and eat, you can't get this back home, just make sure you work it off.

I just went.. Thanks to fellow yelper Briana M. and bridget e. the pretty mother and the daughter duo for reminding me of that this place does exist in my neighborhood.

Walking in, I felt darn silly b/c having this Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory in my back yard distance - well that was exaggeration - and passing by so many times, didn't even realize it is the same Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory as the one in Water street where you wait in line for entire afternoon with tourists from all over the places, just to get one scoop of ice cream. Yes, I've been there...... silly me creamy.. creamy please...

This place.. you walk in and get scoops.. and take all your time to order and choose....... As fellow yelper DJ M. says in her review of Bruster's Real Ice Cream
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I'll meet you at the car!........ or even at home.  LOL

Penelope and I ordered two flavors mixed. Vanilla Chocolate chunk and Peach & Cream. Looking by the amount and the times the guy scooped, we thought we got two scoops but it was one scoop... yes it was a lot! 1/3 of Haggen-Dazs pint.. $3.5 per scoop.. that was what we paid for and shared. Wowza!  Both were creamy but lightly yummy. Peach and Cream tasted like whipped. ahhhhhhhhhh~~~~~  ahhhhhhhhh~~~~~~~ ahhhhhhhhhh~~~~~~~~!

I shouldn't be telling you about my secret Ice Cream stash but.............
I could not stop yelping b/c I am a yelp addict. I will see you there tomorrow.

My family had yet to see my apartment without it being dominated by boxes, so I invited them over for an ice cream expedition and an evening of chatting on our roof (the view of the city is PHENOMENAL).

I wasn't really expecting much from Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, as my coworker had told me there wasn't much to choose form and that it tasted like your average treat. He was wrong!

Upon entering I saw there were 8 flavors (Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Chocolate Chunk, Coffee and Butter Pecan) and was already overwhelmed. Since I'm the worst at choosing just *one* flavor of anything, I went with a small Chocolate Chocolate Chunk/Coffee combo.

It was DELICIOUS. The chocolate chocolate chunk had a rich, yet not overwhelming chocolate flavor, and the coffee was like eating a frozen cafe con leche. I fucking love me some cafe con leche. The man let me try some of the strawberry in a waffle cone, and despite the fact that I am tongue tied I was able to get a great taste of the sweet and strawberry filled dessert. Everyone was VERY happy with their choices...and very happy to find some respite from the heat. Any excuse not to sit in my 120 degree apartment on the 4th floor is good enough for them, and me...especially when it involves sinfully delicious ice cream.

After walking the entire Brooklyn Bridge starting from Manhattan, you'll definitely need to satiate your cravings for something cold and yummy. If that's the case, definitely check out Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory! It's a small little house which looks like a school church. The view from this location is absolutely stunning! You get the views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Pier 17, Manhattan, grey waters, and much more.

The ice cream is simple. Homemade. 8 flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Vanilla Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Chocolate Chunk, Strawberry, Peaches & Cream, Butter Pecan, and Coffee. Get it in a cone or dish (aka cup) or go for a sundae, banana split, or milk shake.

We opted for coffee since the BF hearts coffee. The consistency was really creamy and I wish it had some toffee bits in it to add some crunch to it. One scoop for $3.50 is pretty steep for decent ice cream.

Come here for a scoop if ice cream and definitely soak up the view while you're at it.

I rode my bike all the way from Kew Gardens to get me some scoops! It stands at a beautiful location, right under the Brooklyn Bridge.
The line was long when I got there but luckily my bf waited on it instead as I sat in the shade. He ordered me up a huge waffle cone with two scoops: butter pecan and vanilla chocolate chunk. His cone was topped with strawberry and coffee. As soon as I held it, the sweet, buttery scent from the waffle cone filled my nostrils. Shell out for the waffle cones, it's worth it.
Now, I'm mildly intolerant to lactose but after my first bite, I went in. I'll deal with the consequences later.
Hands down, the most delicious ice cream I've ever ordered!

If I hadn't forgotten that I was lactose intolerant in my hunger- and heat-induced state, I would've LOVED this place. What the hell, I love it anyway.

The milkshakes are pricey (~$7 for a small, $8 for a large), but they're made fresh daily and oh-so-satisfying in 90-degree heat. I had the chocolate with chocolate chunks, and the bf had the strawberry. Mine was sweet, chocolatey goodness (actually a little too sweet, even for me), while the bf's was subtle and refreshing. Strawberry milkshakes at most other places are too artificial and syrupy, but this ice cream factory got it just right.

I think most reviewers are confusing this location with the one near the Brooklyn Bridge. This spot is in Greenpoint, way up in the northernmost street of Brooklyn, where there is not much foot traffic due to the industrial nature of Commercial Street.

If you're taking a walk across the Pulaski Bridge, however, this place is a little more accessible. And worth a visit. The ice cream is simple and pure and all the things you want homemade ice cream to taste like. One lick and I was back at the homemade ice cream shop of my childhood.

Get a cone and bring it up to the new waterfront park up at the tip of Manhattan Ave!

I don't understand.  I'll admit I did not actually get an ice cream myself bc I didn't feel like eating more junk food, but I did sample a few flavors.  The worker said the most popular flavor is Strawberry.  I tried it.  It tasted familiar.  It's called DREYER's.  I tried the vanilla with chocolate chunks.  I've had better....@ RITE AID.  I was shocked and appalled that this is what the long ass lines were for.

Only thing that is memorable was that some foreigners who couldn't speak English needed help and I happened to speak their language so I helped them sample.  The end.

After dining at Grimaldi's, my gf and I were pining for something sweet and cold. So, we found ourselves waiting on another long line for some ice cream at BICF. Luckily, there were 2 separate lines (although I'm not sure that the 2nd one we stood on moved any faster), so I think that cut down the wait by a few minutes. The workers are very slow-moving, though, so that was a bit of an 'eh' factor.

The ice cream itself is very creamy and flavorful and ONLY costs $3.50 for 2 scoops on a sugar cone. Maybe this just seems really cheap to me because I'm used to paying $6.50 for a regular cup of fro-yo. *shrug* Overall, 2 thumbs up!

Extremely overrated I thought.   Ben and jerry's has a better selection and flavor profile.

The ice cream really wasn't anything special, but who could turn down the breathtaking views of the brooklyn-manhattan border on a warm summer night-- and of course ice cream would be essential to seal the deal.  To any guy... if you want to impress a girl, this would be the place to take her... ice cream with a manhattan skyline back drop, I'd be sold.

So maybe I wasn't sold on the ice cream, but when we were there the place had just closed and these three guys who REALLY wanted ice cream did not make it in time.  They noticed a big scoop of ice cream that was dropped on the floor and asked the nearby family if they had just dropped the ice cream.  The woman says yes, and the guy says "oh I am going to go throw it into the water"... hahah yea okay I knew what he was really going to do... surely enough I see him beasting the ice cream from his bare hands a few minutes later.    The kicker, when he finishes it he's like damn where do I wipe my hands.... dude you just ate ice cream from the floor I highly doubt you are concerned about sanitation.  So yea... Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, worthy enough to eat from the floor.

What beats all natural delicious icecream on a hot summer day?  I would say almost nothing. Let's transport this already wonderful shoppe to DUMBO and next to the scenic view. Its definitely the cherry on top of the sundae.

There are only a few flavors to choose from but choose carefully as they are sure to be equally as delicious.

I ordered the choco chunk on chocolate flavor and it was rich, creamy and chocolatey.  They are quite generous with their servings.  Go for the one scoop unless you are feeling indulgent.

This is some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted. Their ingredients are kept simple and it's perfect. I really enjoyed their peaches and cream and vanilla with chocolate chunks. It is expensive but since it's only an occasional treat...who cares right?

Decent ice cream, the best deal is the banana split, especially if you are there with more than two people.  The chocolate is super chocolate-y. Decent staff and decent local, however, while the spot it is at is nice and quiet, the neighborhood is fairly sketchy, I do not recommend going there alone, especially at night, on foot, great spot to bike to though.
Oh yeah, ditto on this not being the one in Brooklyn Heights, duh.
