Unfortunately for me I cannot eat ice cream as much as I wish I could. As most,  I am watching the weight. However, if I am going to have ice cream this is the place I will stop for a scoop or two. The portions are generous, I had the peaches and cream which was excellent. A new favorite. We also had the butter pecan which was perfectly delicious.

We will be back when we are getting on or off the ferry at DUMBO.

I've only had good experiences here but after seeing how long the line was today, I have to warn non-tourists that it's not worth the wait time.  The ice cream is only good depending on how long the line is because honestly, with all the fancy ice cream available now in your local supermarket, you will surely be disappointed when you taste the ice cream and realize you just wasted an hour standing on line.

The Froyo truck across the street has become Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory's arch nemesis and for good reason.   The line is just way too long.

"Ice Cream is the new health food."

    Word.

It's a sign they had inside and I whole-hardheartedly agree.  As chilly as it was, it was hard not to pass up ice cream from Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.  At $4 for a cone, the single scoop was indeed generous.  The ice cream with creamy and rich in chocolatey goodness.  I can only imagine how long the line can get during warmer weather.

    Ice Cream: Above Average.
    Location: AMAZING!

The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is as the saying goes..."In the right place, at the right time." They do make their own ice cream, and it tastes great, especially on any given hot day, however is it the best ice cream you will have? Will it blow your mind out of the water? I think not. There are better however they are NOT bad at all

    SERVICE:
Given it's location, they get a lot of customers coming in by bridge/or ferry and the line can get long. My boo and I were lucky to get in line at the right time but still waited a good 20 min I believe.  Expect anywhere from 30-45 min wait on a busy day. Since they are busy, they are very rushy and may not be the most hospitable. However their menu is small meaning they specialize in only a few flavors which is great meaning they get really good at what they make and do.

    FOOD:
I tried the Vanilla Chunky Chocolate in a cup and it was great! It was creamy and had small crumbly pieces of chocolate to chew on. On that given day where the weather was amazing and hot, it was like a nice oasis in my mouth!

    ATMOSPHERE:
The store is pretty much a line indoors, order and come out. But if I include the surrounding area, AMAZE-TO-THE-BALLs! They got great green spaces to lay out on during hot days and a GORGEOUS view of Manhattan. There is an architectural feat of the Brooklyn Bridge next to you and a ferry that takes you back and forth too for only four dollars! The space was developed really well and you can stroll around, or ride a bike or do many outdoors-y things in that area. If you have time you can even stroll over to Grimaldes to try some awesome pizza as well!

    SUMMARY:
Overall, great place to come enjoy a cold one in terms of a dessert and sit back and relax! Would recommend this Ice Cream Parlor purely because of their location and possibly their above average ice cream.  (Just don't expect any re-inventing of the wheel or once in a lifetime experience in food)

Don't get fooled. The long lines here is the same reason why  there's a ridiculous long line at Grimaldis.

It's also the same reason why hot dog stands with burnt dogs and mushy buns have a thriving business in the central park.

Answer is simple. Tourist trap. Ice cream was alright but not worth the 20 minutes I wasted waiting on line.

A good indicator when my friends started  turning away the peaches n cream ice cream after a few bites. No one should ever turn away ice cream, guess it wasnt worth the calories for them.

Q: Is it really worth the wait?
A: YES if less than 30 minutes, meaning the line sans strollers goes just past the ticket booth. This is my personal wait time limit ;)

Why? Because licking HUMNGOUS scoops of creamy vanilla and lovely strawberry ice cream teetering on a satisfyingly crunchy sugar cone on a pier overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge (the most beautiful bridge!!) the east river and the lower Manhattan skyline on a breezy sunny afternoon is an incredibly memorable NY experience.

I love the people who scoop those scoops!

As others have stated, the lines are long and for what?  For average ice cream, small portions, big prices.  My friends and I had an awful experience with this place.  We each got ice cream after waiting on a long line.  Went outside to eat and after only a taste, my friend felt very sick and had to run to the rest room.  She literally ran to the rest room while her ice cream was left melting in the cup.  I took her ice cream back inside and very respectfully asked if we could get a refund - it was practically untouched.  They flatly refused.  Not good business if you ask me.  Would it have broken their bank to refund one person?  I wouldn't ever go back or recommend it.  My friend threw her money away along with their sub-par ice cream.

Sometimes you have to have ice cream for dinner. Tossing aside the playbook of proper eating, a scoop of your favorite flavor in a cone or a dish can certainly please the taste buds.

For a spot that provides the creamy goodness and a picturesque setting, Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory meets the criteria and also offered up that most slippery and elusive quality, at least during my visit last night: wholesomeness.

Yes, like an old grandfather giving his grandson a Werther's original, I saw public displays of  wholesomeness that rattled my cynical worldview and shook my perception of my fellow human. There's something about ice cream that elicits behavior worthy of a Hallmark card or TV special.

Exhibit A: a military person in uniform gives a random kid a military themed pen and the boy says thank you and so do the parents.

Add the myriad families with surprisingly well behaved children and you have a scene that's ready for a political advertisement about being strong on family values.

What product can cause such elements to gather and congregate in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge?

Why, homemade ice cream and creamy it is. Opened in 2001 despite feeling like a place that's been around for a century, the Factory occupies a converted 1922 fireboat house.

Old fashioned ice cream, you don't come here expecting to stray much from the path of tried and true flavors. Vanilla, chocolate, vanilla chocolate chunk, chocolate chocolate chunk, strawberry, peaches & cream , butter pecan and coffee flavors are available, that's all. If you're seeking out a diversity of available flavors, walk back to Manhattan via the Bridge and check out the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, which is another review waiting to happen.

Cone or dish, with waffle cones an additional .50. 1 scoop is $4, tax included. Sundaes, splits and shakes available.

My single scoop of vanilla chocolate chunk presented in a dish was exemplary, a circular vessel of creaminess that only tasted better with each passing moment of melting. Let the clock run a bit and you'll have a softer sensation that's easier to spoon out compared to first contact. The chunks of chocolate weren't huge and enhanced the overall flavor palette.

The line on a late March Friday evening wasn't unbearable and moved quickly. I can imagine that fairer weather would make for a test of patience. A few tables are in the interior, along with t-shirts, books and seasonal candies like easter bunnies for sale.

There's much talk of America losing it's manufacturing base to developing countries-- fortunately the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory proves otherwise.

The ice cream is good, but not cheap, so I don't really understand what is so special about this place other than the location. What was really disappointing to me was the lack of seating... there are only three tables in this place!

I don't get the hype. But if you have an ice cream craving- go for it!

We went to the park just to take in the view but of course, it's hard to miss the line that comes out of a small white building, home to the Brooklyn Ice Cream.  A friend told us that it was probably going to take 40 minutes or longer with a line that long!  Majority didn't want to wait since we had to head back into Manhattan.

However, a friend and I really wanted the ice cream, just plain vanilla ice cream, since that's our favorite flavor.  We were really bummed when they didn't want to wait since we've both heard a lot about the old fashioned ice cream here.  Suddenly, I remembered how some ice cream shops have an express line if you were to buy a pint, quart, or gallon of ice cream, so I sent her in to ask.  Next thing you know, she comes out with a pint of Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory Vanilla!  Turns out that they tried to have an express line but it didn't work out since too many people were utilizing it wrong, but somehow, she convinced someone there to just sell her a pint of vanilla!

Amazed, we dug our spoon in for that first bite and the vanilla is just pure bliss.  Creamy, smooth, and full of vanilla notes.  Not as egg-y as a French Vanilla but you can definitely taste it.  It's incredible how smooth the ice cream was!  Old fashioned ice cream at its best and definitely in the top 5 of the vanilla's that I've had!  All the others dug in as well once we got back to them and everybody's first reaction was how creamy the ice cream is!

Would I have waited in line?  Yes since I love ice cream, especially for a joint offering old school ice cream.  Would I tell advise others to wait in line?  Probably not... since 40 minutes is a loooong time to wait for ice cream unless you have a lot of spare time.

After eating dinner at Grimaldi's we went to Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.  Ask for samples so you can try some flavors before getting one.

I got a Single scoop in a cone of Strawberry for $4!

Ate inside the small shop, because it was warm inside, cold outside!

Amazing.  OMG nom.  Really wasn't much of a wait the day that we were there, so can't attest to that.  But HUGE scoops of ice cream in amazing flavors? YES PLEASE.  So, screw the calories, the walk back and forth over the Brooklyn Bridge will take care of that!

This place is cute but just average. I only came here because I was in the area. ( I got dinner at Grimaldi's which is close by, but i DO NOT recommend going there because it was terrible)

Anyway, the ice cream here was good. But just good. They only had a few options which was surprising and kind of disappointing. They claim that they have the purest ice cream in the city, but I'd never be able to tell the difference. It tasted the same as any other ice cream I've had.

It's near the water which is pretty sweet. I came here at night, and i'm assuming the experience would be different if you came during the day time because it seems like it'd be really nice to enjoy your ice cream while out on the boardwalk.

Best homemade butter pecan ice cream I've ever had-yup!

This place is absolutely adorable.  Very old school, straight down to the old fashion sundae glasses.

The staff is very pleasant too.

They don't have the largest selection of flavors so don't expect a Baskin Robins variety.  But they do the classic flavors Juuussticce!  Also, they need a few more tables in there for when it's not quite hot enough to enjoy ice cream outside.  But besides that, I'm definitely a fan of this place.  Can't wait to go back on a hot summer day :-)

Our group came across this place after picking up some pies from Grimaldi's and noticed the line coming outside of this little factory.

The location is perfect for people waiting for the ferry or just looking for a nice dessert while strolling around the promenade.  The weather was incredibly clear that day so it was the ideal treat while enjoying the beautiful view of the New York City skyline.

Incidentally, while waiting in line at the factory, I noticed there was also another ice-cream stand near the tent where the waiting area is for the ferry.  It turned out to offer the same types of ice cream from the factory but with no line, so I picked up my cone from there instead.

The ice cream itself is pretty standard, nothing really special to it, especially compared to places like Bi-Rite and Mitchell's in San Francisco.  But considering its location and convenience factor, it definitely hit the spot.

At first I was a bit surprised when I saw that they only had a limited number of toppings and flavors here.  This is no Cold Stone Creamery at all.  However, as the night went on, I realized that I really appreciated the simplicity of the place.  Should definitely come here if you're looking for an old school ice cream shop that doesn't try too hard for that old school look.

It's a small shack located at the pier under Brooklyn Bridge.  It would be really cute to stop by here on a date and then look out towards the water.  Or the place has a sit in area as well if you prefer to enjoy your ice cream indoors.  It's also perfect if you stopped by here after walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.

I got a superb scoop of strawberry ice cream on a cone for $4.  Actually, it kinda tasted like Haiggon Daz strawberry ice cream, which I also think is superb.  I also sampled the butter pecan flavor which was also really good.  Also, they're very generous with the scoops (like the scoop was actually 2 scoops but they squished it into one big scoop).

I don't understand why this place only has 3.5 stars.  Would definitely come back here another day.

What a great lil place...nice location near the water perfect to enjoy some ice cream & a nice walk by the water.
The place itself is nothing special small building. the inside it is not very big as u would expect but i think the location more than makes up for that.
lines can be a pain , specialy on nice days but not much can be done about avoiding this & lets face it ice cream time is limited in NYC.
Service is good & Prices are moderate , the ice cream itself is delicious my fav is strawberry ,followed by  peahes & cream , vanilla & chocolate.
This place is a nice stop on a nice day or even a cool winter day to enjoy some good ice cream & a great view of the city.

Came here with my bf's family since they were visiting from out of town and we were showing them the great view of the bridge and water.  The place is small and doesn't have much seating but if it's nice out who cares? Get it to go and eat it outside with your loved one looking out into the water. It's pretty romantic.
It's kinda out of the way and its a pain in the butt to find parking so I wouldn't come here JUST for the ice cream. But if youre already in the area.. then go here! After getting a pie from Grimaldis! Perfect date.

I got the Butter Pecan and it was as good as Butter pecan can get. The Coffee was good but didnt really WOW me. My bf's brother said the strawberry was really good too.
Note that they only accept cash.
$4 for one scoop, $7 for 2 scoops, $9 for 3 scoops, or something like that ;)

I stumbled here on a weekend afternoon. I thought how perfect it was to eat ice cream with a Manhattan skyline view. I tried the peaches and cream, strawberry, and chocolate chunk. Unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite ice cream, I definitely have had better. I had a second helping at a yelp event and it still didn't change my mind.

    The pluses:
    - Conveniently located next to the water
    - Cool lighthouse decor
    - Good service

    The minus:
    - Not mind blowing
    - Very plain
    - Don't believe the hype
    - Expensive
    - Small portions

I'm giving Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory five stars for ice cream and two stars for how much it sucks to wait in line for 40 minutes for anything, which averages out to 3.5 stars.

The ice cream itself is phenomenal, just a great rich texture and flavor that is hard to come by.  However, waiting in a long-ass line with countless people running in and out to talk to the people who are standing in line to order for them, only to be confronted at the cash register with a scowling ice cream scooper is just not how I want to spend the better part of an hour.  It's a tough call, so next time I'll probably just get my friend to stand in line for me--wait wait lemme go back and tell her I changed my mind AGAIN!

They have a few flavors there and you can get them in a cone or in a cup. The place inside is small, but everyone eats outside mainly. I remember the flavors we got were pretty good. And I would come back here again if I was in the area again.

What else is better than having a cup of ice-cream and enjoying the nice view of Manhattan from Brooklyn.. I share a cup of ice-cream with my friend.. (girls are afraid of calories.. :P) I can totally feel that the ice-cream is made from fresh ingredients.. simple, rich, yet taste good!!!! I ordered the vanilla chocolate chunk top with almonds... One of my guy friend ordered the chocolate chunk.. That's my favorite...

Ice-cream is really filling... but a cup is simply not enough for me and my friend to share... I ended up craving for more but I told myself not..

This is the best dessert after Grimaldi's Pizza... and walking around Brooklyn... This is so far the best ice-cream I have ever had...

CONCLUSION: It's always good when the dessert is simple!!! :D

The ice cream here is delicious...its very creamy and has that home made taste. I think a lot of people under rate it because they are used to mass produced ice cream that has tons of preservatives and stuff added to it. I've made home made ice cream and thats what this ice cream tastes like to me. I had the peaches and cream in a cone and I thought it was awesome.

The atmosphere is pretty awesome...its right next to some of my favorite places, Grimaldi's and the River Cafe....so it's really nice to go to one of those places for a meal and then hit up some ice cream for dessert. It's right under the Brooklyn Bridge on the pier over looking Manhattan. It's really nice to spend some time sitting out at the park thats adjacent to the pier.

The ice cream is good! Not really anything spectacular or truly special. But it is the atmosphere that counts. Eating chocolate ice cream, late afternoon, summer day,  while taking in some of the best views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge really takes the cake. It's a romantic spot, and that is the charm. I mean, there had to be ice cream in a "date spot" // "tourist spot" such as this. You can find better ice cream in the city, but honestly, I'm really glad Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is here at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. It completes the experience of going to a place like Grimaldi's and then eating dessert at another Brooklyn staple a mere 30 second walk away. If it were a Hagen Daz or some other chain, it just wouldn't be the same :)

P.S. they are always out of the Java flavor, it's popular.

First, you just came out of Grimaldi's pizza's long line and now you see there is another line all the way out the door in front of this store.
Second, it is hot and there is no shade from the sun.
Third, there's no AC inside the store.
Fourth, there is LIMITED seating inside.
Fifth, you get hungrier as you watch ppl come out with their ice cream.
Sixth, you notice all the waste-spacing things they have in that teenie-tiny store.
Seventh, all this becomes forgotten as soon as they hand you your over-priced ice cream =D and you walk out that door w/ that ice cream in your hand and making all the ppl on line envy-eyed

Even tho the menu has limited flavors, it took me and my friend the entire wait line to figure out what we wanted and we were still deciding as we were ordering our banana split. This was my first banana split as an American who's been living here for all her life and it was amazingly GOOD! The workers will look disgruntled and annoyed, but that didn't bother me much since we were in and out pretty quickly.

This is our banana split w/ 2 scoops of vanilla chocolate chunk & 1 strawberry scoop topped w/ toasted almonds, pineapple, & butterscotch:
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

FYI...for the lactose intolerant...There are bathrooms.  But the line for the bathroom was longer than for the ice-cream..like OUT THE DOOR.  And smelled like diarrhea.

    Otherwise.....
Great location, steps from Grimaldi's and great view of the water!!

Flavors: vanilla, chocolate, vanilla choc chunk, choc choc chunk, strawberry, peaches and cream, butter pecan, coffee.

Banana split is 3 flavors and 3 toppings ($8.50)  I posted a pic!

    Cup or cone prices:
    1 scoop ($4)
    2 scoops ($6)
    3 scoops ($7)

Scoops are LARGE. Ice-cream isn't particularly anything to go crazy about but tasty on a nice sunny day.

Due to all the hype, hubby and I ventured down to Dumbo for some famous Brooklyn Ice cream and we were kind of disappointed there were only several flavors. We figure they want to hold on to the past, the original and the classic.

We got 1 scoop of Peach and Cream and it is $4 with actually many scoops lol It was creamy and i could clearly see peaches inside the vanilla ice cream. Somehow, I just didn't get the OMG feeling. It was good but I have had better ones in many places. There was no line so I guess it wasn't a waste of time but I definitely don't think there needs to be a hype.

Brooklyn Ice-Cream Factory is my favorite ice-cream place of all time.  A friend and I shared the vanilla chocolate chunk ice-cream with almonds, and the experience was absolutely delectable.  Savoring each bite, I could tell that the ice-cream was made from the purest ingredients, and there was nothing noticeably processed about the ice-cream.  Plus, it is made in small batches, which only adds to the intensely wonderful flavor.

I usually feel a little sick after eating ice-cream, being oh so slightly lactose intolerant, but Brooklyn Ice-Cream Factory did not make me feel that way.  Maybe because the milk and cream were so fresh that it wasn't too hard for me to digest.  I can't wait to go back.

Tourism has affected Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory in many ways.

Being right by the Brooklyn Bridge, and down the block from Grimaldi's means it is pretty much guaranteed business forever. However, the prices have risen to match the tourism. I know it's freshly made in-house, and I love that, but I feel like it's a bit steep.

That's honestly the only bad thing I can say about the factory. The quality is consistent, so you will get rich, creamy ice cream each and every time. I'm really fond of their coffee ice cream, in particular, which isn't too sweet. It tastes like lightly sweetened coffee with cream, not a sugar soaked frappuccino. I do wish they had a few more flavors, but I can't really nitpick about that. They keep it simple, and there's nothing wrong with that if you do simple well.

There's nothing quite like grabbing a cone, walking to the side near the River Cafe, sitting on a bench in the shade and enjoying some ice cream.

Be prepared for a line if it's a holiday weekend. There's usually a line anyway, but it's borderline unbelievable on holiday weekends.

Last weekend a friend and I were bored and decided to make the random trip to "the lighthouse in Brooklyn that sells ice cream". Parking around the area is hard, especially during the weekends, so if your driving prepare yourself for the battle of the parking spots. There was a line, but it wasn't as bad as I have seen it other times Ive been in the neighborhood. We came right before it closed! Yes, this is a touristy area, but plenty of locals come here too.

The ice cream was 4 dollars for a scoop (which I may add is a large portion). They don't have a huge selection of flavors, instead they concentrate on making a few flavors really well. I had the vanilla and chocolate chunk. The ice cream was rich and creamy, but not too heavy. It's also all natural, which is nice if your like me and you care about those sorts of things. I would definitely recommend the vanilla and chocolate chunk to anyone...unless you hate vanilla and chocolate...or your one of those bizarre people who hate ice cream...I think next time I'm going to try the coffee ice cream, because it looked amazing. My friend got the butter pecan, which was good, but inferior to the vanilla and chocolate chunk.

There isn't a lot of seating inside, because its a small lighthouse, however why would you want to sit inside when there is an amazing view outside and plenty of places to sit and relax? This is a great place to come on a hot summer night or after a romantic dinner. Take a stroll in the park along the water with your ice cream. You will be glad you did.

The employees were friendly and fast. My only complaint was that they only except cash.

If you like classic ice cream, then this is probably the place for you. You see, I am not a classic kind of a gal when it comes to ice cream that is. I like ice cream that takes me to a whole other level with creativity and makes me say "WOW! I wouldn't have thought of that, but it is so freaken good!"

The ice cream is good, but not worth the line.

There is no better treat than grabbing a a cone from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, and spending the rest of the afternoon enjoying the view on a sunny day. Seriously, the lack of indoor seating is such a minute complaint considering that this place is located right next door to one of the most awesome views that you could find anywhere in the world.
I had the vanilla chocolate chunk in a sugar cone, and couldn't have been happier with my choice. It was a perfect blend of creamy goodness without the overbearing sweetness that usually ruins a good ice cream cone. Make sure you take cash, this place is worth all of the hype it gets, and much more.
