7 reviews for Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar
Boyfriend and I wandered in here the other night.
We were starving and certain other places with delicious Italian food were too busy (and don't take reservations! urg!).
Anyway, this was nearby and had food.
Ended up being a nice surprise.
The wine selection was good (at least for us) and the food was a little all over the place, but really reasonably priced and interesting looking.
Tried a charcuterie plate which was good but nothing special.
The burger that the boyfriend tried, however, was delicious.
I also tried the calamari with capers, pearl pasta and cranberries.
SO GOOD!
I ordered the small size, and it was the perfect amount.
A few too many caper perhaps, but really good.
The only 'eh' part of the meal was dessert.
We ordered the trio of pot de creme.
Flavor was great..texture..not so much.
2 of 3 hadn't set correctly and they were more like soup.
Wasn't worth complaining about because they were rather small and still tasty. Next time, however, we'll be trying something else for dessert. Or asking for proper pot de creme if tasty soup arrives at our table!
This place is kind of strange - atmosphere is nothing special, maybe even cheap feeling. The drinking selection is decent, I agree that $12 cocktails are a bit outlandish for this neighborhood, but at least they have a Kelso beer on tap always.
As for the food, the menu is very strange - it's like this place is trying to be a "small plates" spot, but none of the small plates seem to come together to comprise a good meal. A few main courses, and by far the most important part of the menu: the hamburger. In fact, BHWB would be a 3 if it weren't for the burger I had the other night, really one of the better hamburgers I have had in the midst of this burger renaissance.
Decidedly meh. May be a one-star on a second visit.
I wandered in here with a friend on a Saturday evening. We were very impressed with the wine list and the cocktail menu. We shared a half a carafe of wine and enjoyed the atmosphere. We sat at the bar and shared some great conversation while interesting music played. The bartender was friendly and attentive. My friend and I both agreed that this would be a great date spot. It's easy to feel relaxed here and there is an intimate vibe. I definitely plan on coming back and trying one of the cocktails. Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar is a nice addition to the area.
Well, well, well. Finally a successfully joint at this ill fated location. A varied wine list with glasses, splits and bottles. Tapas, like Marcona Almonds with bacon, stuffed dates wrapped in speck, half portions of ravioli, etc. My only complaint: this place is noisy! Oh, yeah: the music stinks. They should put drapes up to muffle the sound and play jazz. Forget Justin Timberlake- totally a mood killer. Priced well, pretty, and very upbeat. Loved it!
I guess I'm the odd one out, as I was very underwhelmed by this place. The wine list was very limited -- overpriced and boring. And 12$ cocktails? Forget it. Maybe I would have been more willing to spend 15$ on a glass of wine if the ambience had been better. It just felt cheesy and dated in there. There are too many superior drinking and dining venues in the area (some beyond Brooklyn Heights) for me to even consider this place as a destination. I won't be going back.
This is a really welcome addition to the neighborhood. A relaxed place to go to get wine and dessert, and it's not half bad for brunch either. I had dinner there the other night and the grilled vegetables with goat cheese sauce (it was definitely called something much more elegant than that) was delicious. I hope this place sticks it out at this ill-fated address.
