Our tenants shorted out the cable lighting system in our condo and I only had a day to fix it. I found Brookline on google and John was able to come over on very short notice which was great. It took a while to find the problem transformer. If he had said the box needed to be replaced for ~$500, I would have said ok since I have zero expertise in these matters and a short deadline. However, John figured out there was a breaker switch on the box and I was able to reset it myself. Another company would have simply forced me to replace the expensive hardware and pay them for the labor to do that.

We had a list of 4 things to be done.
Brookline came over, charged $60 for an estimate (always a BAD SIGN) and coughed up a Five Thousand Dollar estimate to do a day's worth of work. We laughed at them and said no thank you.
I would be willing to bet they do superb and meticulous work. But you'll pay a premium for it.Comment from John P. of Brookline Aries Electric 12/11/2011

All I needed was an electrical outlet installed 5 feet from an existing indoor outlet. When the electrician arrived at my home, I was then told it would take two hours to do this job. The rate was $200 for the 1st hour and $150 for each additional hour (or portion of hour) after that.
In other words, they wanted to charge me at least $350 for this simple job that should only take 45 mins at most!
When I called the office, they said that was their charge and if I didn't want to have the work done, I would need to pay them $60 for THIER time wasted. When I asked them why they didn't mention the $60 charge when I called to set up the appointment, these idiots said "because you didn't ask".
Give me a break. What a bunch of lame brains!
The way I see it, they owe me $160 dollars for MY time.Comment from John P. of Brookline Aries Electric 12/11/2011

I couldn't get in touch with my contractor so I called Brookline and they came over quickly and gave me a temporary fix. They also told me that my meter was no longer sold and that I would have to buy a new one. The next day my contractor came, immediately found that I did not have to order a new meter (100's of dollars of savings). Brookline charged $160 for an hour of work. Expensive and not thorough in finding an affordable solution. Would not recommend.

History
Established in 1972
The original Brookline Electric Inc was established circa 1955 by Mr. John Brookman. When John found out I like working with old knob & tube wiring, he said "SUPER!"
I was a union electrician with IBEW local 6 for about a year. Before that I worked for Scott Electric
Interestingly John's brother was the foreman. They made a good team. Nothing good or otherwise got past them. We had a big project restoring a building after a fire. I remember being distracted by the Water Gate hearings on the TV in the office, so it was a long time ago.
John got cancer circa 1990 (citation needed) and put The business in to a trust. His son Rick took over the business and later sold it to David Belisle's father. David had been one of the main electricians for John and he, his father and his mother ran the business for a few years.
In September 1994 I bought Brookline Electric in order to increase my client base and have been the owner ever since.

I got my start with electricity in The 4H Club, at Madison Elementary School in Fresno. My wood shop teacher asked me if I would like to be the charter student in an electricity class. I enthusiastically said Yes! He contacted PG&E and they provided work books by "Ready Kilowatt". I learned about proper splicing and how to be safe around electricity.
Later I attended Fresno City College where I learned electronics and got an "A in drafting.
In 1958 my parents had new house built on Kearney Blvd in Fresno. Then the general contractor hired me to wire up his next few projects. It was cold in Fresno in the winter. I moved to Hawaii where I worked on the Reef Tower Hotel. I stayed in Hawaii for seven years.
I like re-wiring Victorian and Edwardian buildings in San Francisco. My latest specialty is power restoration any time including after hours and weekends. If PG&E says you need an electrician - I am your man.
