Nothing fancy about the Brooklawn Diner. I went here once in a blizzard; there were only three other people there. The waitress was of the old-timey variety, the kind that has been in the business for fifty years and calls all her customers "hun". I like that.
There is nothing special about the food or the menu or anything else, really. But it is open 24 hours when nothing else nearby is.
My go-to diner when I lived far from NJ and far from any decent diners. I'd come back to visit, grab a friend, and head over for a tuna melt and awful jukebox music.
When I used my 3 choices to play Nirvana, Patsy Cline, and the Theme from the Batman TV series, one patron complained aloud.
It's not fine cuisine, but it's my own personal South Jersey comfort food.
Went there this morning because Rita's isn't exactly breakfast fare. Our server was rather abrasive, to be honest - didn't seem to have a good grip on the menu, and was annoyed when I asked for juice even though it came with the #7 omelet meal. The drinks are WAY too small. The small juice made me feel like Gulliver, and the large soda I also ordered was gone in seconds because that wasn't very big either. We did get to sit in the greenhouse area, though, and that was nice. The food was about average; hash browns could have been cooked more (and hashed more), toast was HEAVILY pre-buttered, but it was fine before we got on the road.
Oh, prices can't be beat, though...
The Brooklawn Diner is my local go to place for late night eats. My roomate and I have been several times since moving about 5 minutes away. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal or service. Fairly standard as far as NJ diners go. Great prices, my roomate and I ate for $14 total the other night. Can't beat that!
Good food, generous portions, GREAT VALUE.
