My favorite thing about bronx pizza has to be the crispy crust.
it's true that a slice of pizza is only $2.50 but it was pretty ridiculous to drive around for half an hour to find parking.
Too bad they don't have a "drive thru" that would have been awesome... instead of the walk up window. (THINK about it guys!)
It was during 2009's San Diego Comic Con that Jackie D. and John D. excitedly took me to Bronx Pizza! They didn't say much, but were clearly in awe of this by-the-slice pizza joint, I HAD to see what could make them so ga-ga!
I stepped inside for quick second just to point and grunt like a caveman towards the couple of slices I wanted to try.
The small place is no nonsense and no pretense. There's a short counter for a register, a tall glass display case for the various pizzas. That's it. As you wait in line, eyeballing the slices in front of you, there is a busy busy kitchen and a big oven, an ingredients station for all to see and flour everywhere. Behind and to the side of you is a smattering of well-worn tables and chairs.
While Jackie and John were inside ordering six different slices for us, I ran next door to the liquor store to pick up a six of beer to pair with our flavorful and highly anticipated dinner. We drove back to our smoky little motel room in Chula Vista, the delicious aroma of pizza teasingly wafting through the car.
When we finally crashed onto our beds, cold beers in hand, and dug in? "AY, YO! YO, AY! That's a good slice!"
The big crispy-but-foldable slices (our six slices probably make a whole pie) were delicioso! Most or all of our slices were two topping, keeping it simple; a meat or a veggie and Whitestone. What's Whitestone? Check it : Mozzarella, ricotta, garlic and parmesan. [via http://bronxpizza.com/...]
Savory slices of pizza and bottles of Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale later, we were drunk and full, an empty pizza box on the nightstand, a bed pushed off its springbox, and a mountain of ice melting on the floor.
Don't ask.
Every time we geek out at ComicCon, you know we're grabbing slices at Bronx! 2010, here we come!

Whitestone. It's like crack!
Delicious garlicky and cheesy pizza crack!
And I'm hooked like a fiend!
I really like coming to The Bronx. I always get a slice of pesto and a slice of whitestone with spinach with a drink for $6. I bring out of town friends here alot. A good friend of mine from NY mentioned that this is the closest thing to NY pizza that he has ever had since leaving NY. Guess thats a good thing.
Only complaint is the parking...never can find a spot and sometimes there is never a table. But the place is pretty popular....what can ya expect?
Every other place, I've eaten pizza in San Diego should just closed down and admit that Bronx pizza has them beat. (And yes, I'm looking at you Sanfilippo's).
This places lives up to it's name. If you've ever lived on the east coast and are having pizza withdrawal go here.
Yes, the parking situation is horrible. Yes, you must bring cash. Yes, if you eat at the restaurant you are basically eating in a tent covered parking lot. And yet, I say to you, it is worth it. This is good pizza at an amazing price.
I enjoy Bronx pizza a lot.
Out of 5 stars, Bronx pizza to me is a 3 because although the pizza is good... in opinion it's not AMAZING... it's just "A-OK" ... which is the 3 star definition.
Fast, cheap, tasty = 4 stars
- 1 stars because there is never parking nearby and I believe it's cash only
:-)
It was just me and the kids this weekend... they complain about my cooking.... so I ordered a Bronx Pizza to be DELIVERED!
We waited out front for the delivery scooter. The kids saw him and screamed with delight! He accepts credit cards... I SCREAMED like a girl!
Unfortunately they say i'm a block out of range? WTF? I tip well! Very well. They better increase their range!

I LURRRRRV this pizza.. And it seems so does everyone else!

Nothing special honestly. The crust is super thin, but the topping quality is mediocre. The meatball is a weird sliced pepperoni-esque meat and the peppers/onions seem to be pre-cooked. It's like they microwaved or boiled them before putting them on the pizza and lack the aroma they usually get after being baked in a pizza oven. the crust is so thin that it ends up getting soggy because of the sauce/cheese, and there isn't even that much sauce! The cost is definitely not worth what you get.
To top it off, the service is slow as heck. I was there for a pickup and after waiting for some time, instead of being helped the guy at the counter just talked to various people before another guy ended up helping me instead. Real nice.
This pizza is so hyped, we've decided to give it another chance. But again, I did not find this pizza very flavorful and the crust was soggy.... and it's just too greasy overall. I think it depends on your taste and preference...I'm gonna have to go back to Luigi's.
Had Bronx Special the other day with a friend. Having lived in New England and missing the pizza I had to give it a shot. I've gone by it lot's of times but never stopped because I've heard other pizza places say that they have NY Style or better right here in SoCal only to be disappointed.
After reading some reviews on yelp I figured, WTF. I wasn't disappointed. It was almost like being at "Sally's" in New Haven. The next best thing to being there.
Highly recommend!!
so as i have mentioned before, I am new in town. I was told this is THE pizza to be had.
Eh, I've had better.
I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am that Bronx Pizza now delivers. This pizza place is as simple as they come; great thin-sliced NY style pizza, and that's all. They also now take Credit Card orders when ordering on-line, woo hoo. The only reason I'm not giving Bronx 5 stars is that I tried their Pesto Pizza last night and did not love it the way I do their Pepperoni Pizza which is 5 stars all the way!
If you're looking for simple, classic, thin crust pizza, Bronx is the place to go!
Went too Bronx Pizza for lunch on the quest to find San Diegos best pizza. I have to say it was good, and they have a decent variety.
Price $6 for 2 slices and drink very reasonable. If you've never tried thin crust pizza you should check it out.
Not a bad tasting pizza.
Good size for just one slice.
hot & fresh!
Misc: the place is small. One of the guys was making pizza boxes and stacking them outside the restaurant.
This might be the best pizza in San Diego. As you'd expect from the name, thin-crust NY-style is what you'll find here, the kind of big slices you'll probably fold in half while you eat. What else is there to say? It'd damn good pizza.
This place gets very busy and fills up fast, so be prepared to wait for seating or do carry-out / delivery.
Ordered for pick up from Bronx pizza this last weekend & I don't think I will be coming back. I think this place is OVERATED! I remember the pizza being better. We ordered the whitestone (mozzarella, ricotta, garlic & parmesan) with sausage. The toppings are sparse...it definitely could' ve used more ricotta! Also too pricey for what you get!
The pizza we made for dinner last night w/ scallops, goat cheese, spinach, & tomato was a lot better than the pizza we had here!
I love this place. I've been coming here for the last 6 years and the service and pizza has remained consistently good. The staff is friendly yet edgy. If, by chance, a mistake is made with your order. You might get a slice or two on the house.
The pizza crust is thin and the pizza sauce is tangy. I have since moved but still make the 30 minute drive to pick up a pie.
Some negatives, but not nothing that can't be avoided with proper planning. Cash only joint and parking is extremely limited.
My boyfriend has only TWO numbers stored in his phone as "speed dial" contacts...
Me, and Bronx Pizza.
That pretty much says it all.

I LOVE BRONX PIZZA! It is so flipping delish and I want to have its babies, but if I had babies with their pizza I would probably eat my babies so maybe its not the best idea. The bronx is simple but nowhere near bland. I love pizza and this place hasnt let me down. so WHOOHOO HIGH FIVE for pizza that makes me go "uhhhh uhhh da nanana!"
What is not to like about Bronx. The best Pizza I have had in San Diego. Relatively cheap and servings are plentiful. When your there I would suggest going with a group. One person orders while everybody else splits up to get a table because it gets crowded and busy. It is well worth it though. Only bad thing I would have to say is the whole parking situation. Good luck finding parking close by. When going I would recommend the Pork-o. Simply the best.
I heard a lot about this place and had to check it out for myself.
It's not hard make a good slice of pizza, which I believe they did. I think the hype just kind of killed it for me (not to mention the long wait).
I would recommend this place to people who live in the area. It's good pizza, just not amazing.
I love garlic and love that I could add extra powder at will.
I will eat here again, just not go out of my way.
I love NY style pizza.
I love thin pizza cut into big slices. So yeah, the pizza was great. We got a Pepperoni, Sausage and Mushroom pie. I enjoyed it very much, especially topped with Parm, Red Pepper, Oregano and Garlic Salt! Super delicious... So why did I give them 3 stars?
Order pies, not slices. While we were standing at the counter, I noticed flies all over the pies in the window... Im not super nit-picky, if I was eating a slice and a fly just happened to land on it for a split second, whatever, Id eat the rest of the slice no problem... But having flies walking all over a pie that was sitting in the window for slice orders.... No thank you!
Great pizza pie, the place is a great spot to stop by and chill and have a slice of some really good pizza. The staff there are super cool and friendly. Definitely recommend it.
Been going here for over 10 years (even while living in LA, I even drove down to pick up a couple of pies). The white stones with tomatoes slices is simply the best. The other pies are solid but the white stones can not be beat. IMHO it is even better then John's on Bleeker St.
Recently, we have tasted a slight difference in the crust. Crust is everything in pizza. I hope it is not being changed as perfection should not be messed with.
I'm from Queens originally and I got to tell you; Bronx Pizza is noth'n special. I think for most of us New Yorker's, thin crust pizzarias are popular because they are nostalgic. These are the neighborhood joints we grew up with. They were/are cheap and hit the spot when you don't have a lot of money. So Californians, believe me, the very best "REAL" New York Pizza has 3" crust and 8 ounces of heart stopping cheese per slice.
This place is overrated, the guys who run the joint put on a show (Fake arguments and all), I have no idea why people think this place is anything special, it's crap. I had a slice when visiting San Diego, when the slice came I said, "What the hell is this?". Go back to NYC and you'll see how run of the mill this place is. I asked the guy running the place to put some more cheese on my slice and he reluctantly did so.
Pizza is bland, ingredients suck, pizza is paper thin just like in the poor neighborhoods of NYC. Move on people. Thin crust is thin because it's cheaper to make so you can sell it cheaper but in more volume.
Thumbs down.
Bronx pizza has what I would imagine New York style pizza is like. The crust is super thin but the pizza has great flavor! I loved that fact that they had a bunch of different pizza choices already pre-made so you can try a few different kinds. We got our pizza to go and it was amazing in the short period of time we were there the number of people that came through. That speaks volumes to me right there! Bronx is the best thin crust pizza I have had in a long time and with their prices you really can't go wrong!!!
Bronx delivers to your door!!!
The man and I were hungover, hungry and had no desire to see the light of day. So he suggested we order Bronx. In about 45 minutes, we had pizza.
I don't know if it is me that has changed or the pizza, but I had 3 slices and the layer of grease in my stomach got to me. It was a bit much. I have eaten here plenty of times before, so I don't what happened.
But delivery of this pizza vs. Papa John's or Domino's is the best and I cannot wait until we have more hangovers!
I always feel like i am gonna get punched from the guy taking my order, but the more i think about it, i guess the pizza here would still be worth it. As good as the slices are, if you order a whole pie, it's unbelievable. The Whitestone Spinach and Tomato Garlic are the way to go. If you live in San Diego and you haven't been here, you are bumming. Stop going to Oggi's, and get your Bronx on.
One of those pizza places you should have in your "I feel like having pizza" rotation.
If you are in the mood for thin crust can't go wrong here. Very reasonably priced.
Parking on the street isn't that much of a hassle. Respect the dry cleaners next door and do not park there!
O.M.G. i LOVE this place. it is freaking delicious! the bf found this place on yelp after a day at comic con. we wanted something to eat since we were tired after a drive-all-night thing we did from home just to be at comic con in the morning. then we spent the day at comic con and needed food. i suggested pizza and we were on our way. the bf said there were about 600 reviews for this place and well, i think they were all right. there was a line when we got there but it's well worth the wait. we both got 2 pieces and a drink for 6 bucks. awesome. i don't know what i got but i have to say that i LOVE the white pizza here. we ended up coming back here a couple days later with our friend and he was instantly in love too. the liquor store next door provided with great beer to go with the pizza...(we ended up drunk in our hotel room with beer and pizza).
i wish there was a bronx pizza in san jose!
I gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of thin crust pizza - never have been, never will be. Give me Chicago-style any day, please. When it comes right down to it, good pizza is good pizza regardless of the style so I thought I'd finally give Bronx (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) a spin to see how they fare.
Despite the many pizza combos to choose from (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), I went with just simple pepperoni only.

I was pleasantly surprised (and pleased) because Bronx has some really good pizza. I do, however, hate the way the crust ends up being hard as wood as opposed to how soft and edible thick crust can be. I like eating the crust but not at the risk of needing an oral surgeon afterwards.
As I mentioned early, good pizza is good pizza regardless of the style and Bronx is GOOD pizza.
After reading all the reviews decided to give this place a shot.Hey had a good variety of pizzas and the price was reasonable.
The deals were cool to and I decided on the cheese and pepperoni pizzas. It was a good pizza but nothing out of the ordinary .I wasn't impressed but its still good
I've read so many good reviews on this place so my boyfriend and I decided to go check it out.. We were definitely disappointed. The place was okay, the staff was nothing out of the ordinary just like the pizza. I actually thought the pizza was bland. It was dry and didn't have much of the topping on it which isn't good for a supreme pizza. We both walked out regretting to have gone in the first place. But if you're the type who likes thin crust with little sauce, this place might be for you. I'd prefer Lefty's over this any day.
Exceptional New York-style pizza
Serving outstanding pizza pies to hungry San Diegans who appreciate good food since 1997, this joint has become an institution in its own right.
Only serving thin crust, New York-style pizza, all of the offerings are tasty and delicious, but the Whitestone with fresh mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, and garlic and Whitestone Spinach stand out as my favorites.
The interior décor has plenty of images of New York City, The Bronx, boxing, and traditional Italian-American themes.
Admittedly, I am partial to Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but appreciate and love this establishment and the awesome food that they make with pride every day.
Special:
$6 for two slices and a soda with refills every day.
I've been so damn pleased the last few times I've been here. Bronx is officially tied for first on the list of my favorite pizza joints in San Diego. If pizza is my weakness, Bronx kicks my ass and leaves me on the floor.

To do this place justice, you really need to eat here. the place isn't fancy and there is no magical vibe going on here, but you really need to enjoy your pizza moments after it comes out of the oven when the crust is still crispy. If you've been taking your pizza home and you think it is only "OK", blame yourself. If the pizza sits in a box, it's going to get soggy and gone is the whole notion of thin crisp crust. Check out Bronx Pizza at lunchtime... drive down there and order your slices and eat them as soon as they come out of the oven. Only THEN will you know how good this place can be.
This is the closest I'll get (for now) to East Coast NY style thin crust crispy pizza. The Bronx.
We always get ours to go. Different slices...before you know it we can fill up a whole box. Yeah, we do. First and foremost...Whitestone: Mozzarella, ricotta, garlic and parmesan. WOW. Where has this been all my life? Oh yeah, I was freakin' addicted to Domino's thin crust. My life has changed. Then you add Spinach to it! Watch out! The deluxe is also nice: Pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, black olives, onions, mushrooms and garlic. Tasty, tasty, tasty. You can get Whitestone with anything...just check out the menu on their site: http://www.bronxpizza....
So, I'm truly a fan. Peeps there are alright. It can get super busy. It's a dice throw, but when you drive down the street you can see how busy (or not busy) it is immediately. CASH ONLY...so get your ATM on, playa...then get yourself a couple of slices of pie (that's pizza pie). See you at Bronx!
The best New York Style pizza I have tasted outside of NYC. No frills in the pizza and in the service (don't expect them to fawn all over you but they are nice but still very curt) . The pizzas are inexpensive, made fast and fresh, very tasty, and HUGE. I brought home a sausage and pepperoni pizza for me and someone else for dinner for one night and we both ended having it for lunch and dinner the next day. And now that they accept credit cards for delivery, you really don't have to deal with the horrible parking in Hillcrest.
I never been to NY or even tried Bronx Pizza.
Me and my friends went here last night but arrived 10mins after closing.
We were all kinda disappointed, so we just stood infront of this place talking about food and where/what to eat instead.
Next thing you know, one of the employee comes out with a box of pizza, and handed it to us.
"You guys can have this...."
Wewere like, WTF?? Free pizza... my god, we were starving and our prayers were answered.
The slices were big, they gave us pepperoni with shrooms. It only took 2 slices for me tap out...
My only suggestion for this place is to please close your shop at a later time. After the shop closed, we were just "Curb" pimpin, standing around talkin, and we noticed how even though the shop was closed, people were coming and wondering if they were open. It was sad seeing them leave disappointed. Soo... If I owned this shop, I'd close around 2 am or something.... haha
Having recently moved to SD from the East Coast, I was eager to find a pizza place much like my beloved pizzerias of New York. I lived in NY for 4 years of my adult life, and I had the chance to experience true New York pizza in all it's glory.
Bronx Pizza may be good for San Diego, but it doesn't compare to the best of New York (like Lombardi's and Grimaldi's.) The thin crust is crispy and tasty - and probably the best part of their pizza. But the cheese is processed and not fresh mozzerella (which is true NY wood-fired oven style).
Final thoughts...
Understandably it's hard to re-create a city's specialty outside of that city. For SD, this is probably pretty good but not good enough for this East Coaster at heart. Maybe I shouldn't expect to find real New York pizza, Philly cheesesteaks, or Chicago hot dogs out here - but I'll certainly keep trying!
Best pizza in So Cal! I heard a rumor that the ingredients are sent from their family in NY(cheese, etc.) and you can taste the difference. Everyone here hustles and is super-nice even during the busiest, most chaotic times. It's home away form home for my taste buds. P.S. added bonus!: sexy Italians!
