When you have 3 boys, even if they are healthy, you just have to have a pediatrician! Our guys have been under the excellent care of Christine Ciavarella at the Hahnemann Clinic in El Cerrito forever, and now that we're in Portland, there was a gaping maw of where to get kids health care needs met when you are not exactly a pro-medicine family. No need to fear! At the suggestion of another mom, I phoned this office & was immediately put at ease. The 3 boys were scheduled for the same afternoon and it was amazingly easy!
We saw Dr. Kristan Collins & her 2 exceptional RNs. Man! What service! Professional, ON TIME (!!!), easy to talk with, made the boys feel comfortable, thorough, and discussed every possible topic I could imagine. They were respectful, listened, asked great questions & gave plenty of time for each boy to respond. We did not feel rushed, we did not feel as tho' we were cash cows. We felt welcomed to this practice. Wow! Toward the end of this visit, the doctor personally thanked the boys for being so polite, so respectful (to their mother!), so willing to make her feel at ease! How many times do you hear this?? Please! I ask you...this is a rare experience and deserving of all accolades. I hesitate to write this as I want to be able to return in 3 months for booster shots without a huge wait, yet, amazing service & care like this must be recognized. I highly recommend this practice and now, instead of dreading a wait, I will be much more positive when it's time to take the guys to the pediatrician. Go here if you desire amazing pediatric care.
My primary care physician is based here at BMC. I've seen her since the mid-90s. Until recently, both my kids used a pediatrician in the building.
Medical care is highly personal. And it should be. If you find you're not connecting with your doctor, you should find someone else. Really. You want to be able to speak freely, to be heard and to hear the truth about your health from him/her.
We found BMC to work well with our insurance carrier, United Health Care. No problems with billing or statements. [We've had problems with UHC, but that's another review.] To see my doctor, I must check in first with the BMC front desk, who takes yet another copy of my health insurance card and collects (when needed) a co-pay fee. I drop off the paperwork at my physician's door, then someone comes out picks it up and calls me in. Apparently, there is an electronic notification sent to the doctor's office that says I'm out here waiting.
My wife is not satisfied with her primary care physician here and is considering a move after many years. But that has less to do with BMC than it does with her connection and satisfaction with her doctor. Me? I'm staying with that doctor because she's delivered all I've needed. See? It's a personal thing, your "relationship" with your doctor.
