Honestly, this is the best place to check out a movie. Has your range of independent films with some mainstream stuff sprinkled in, and multiple theaters. In pretty good shape for an indie theater, large capacity seating that's clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are in good shape. A range of snacks (on the pricier side).
You won't have to sell your soul to the Corporate Theater Devils for a movie ticket...And they serve coffee and lattes too!
Fun little older theatre in downtown SLC. We went here to watch the fantastic mr fox, and had a great time.
Screens and chairs have seen better days, but you make up for that in ticket and food prices.
*disclaimer* this is more of an independent/arthouse theatre, not really a lot of new releases here.
Nothing beats a Landmark theater with their THX-certification, but this theater was alright, too. They play a mixture of independent as well as Blockbuster hits. Sound is okay, and the staff are nice. Lots of teeny boppers and kids, so you might not get the silence you need while watching the big screen. A huge plus is the free parking in the garage on Sundays - score!
I love this theater, always playing the best independent films and they have veggie hot dogs at their concession stand! Sold!
The Broadway Centre Cinema is your portal to the real world at times in downtown Salt Lake City. Unashamed to show controversial films this theatre caters to all people here in Salt Lake City.
As the premier independent cinema venue in the Salt Lake area, if you wish to see anything other than mainstream media, the Broadway Theatre is a must visit.
During the Sundance Film Festival they will have some special screenings a long with some Q&A with directors, writers, and actors from those films!
I frequent this venue often and regularly!
If you want to see the best movies in town.. this is the place.
Sundance movies always seem to end up here, and the local flavor makes the movie experience much more authentic. I feel like I am out of Salt Lake when I am here for some reason... possibly because they show films that most other theaters wouldn't.
Their coffee isn't bad either!
Ah and like other reviewers... I also enjoy the cello player:)
They still offer free refills of popcorn and soda. The best and virtually only theater in Utah to watch independent and Oscar quality films. Can't imagine living here without the Broadway.
I've seen several movies at the Broadway Centre Cinemas and have never had a bad experience.
This is the place to go if you're looking for independent cinema. I won't get high-and-mighty and say that's all I like, because it certainly isn't, but I do appreciate and enjoy many independent movies so I frequent Broadway regularly.
Check it out, you'll surely see a movie worth the time and money!
I love the Broadway Theaters.
If you are looking for foreign films, documentaries and movies that they don't dare show anywhere else, then this is your place.
Fast Food Nation, they had it. Pan's Labyrinth, they had it. Inconvenient Truth, of course. Triplettes de Belleville, Yes.
Along with great movies they serve more food than the average theater, alternative choices in snacks and lattes. It doesn't get better than this!
I love, here it, LOVE this place. I love that there is this little place just for me for the movies I like!
The seats have an old theatre charm, they aren't the most comfortable, but they aren't falling apart. The floor isn't sticky and the place doesn't stink. They have "upscale" candy (like Lindt chocolate, mmm), espressos, and sodas. I have to knock minuscule points for their popcorn though, its not that great.
I love to listen to the cello player that's there nearly every night.
I also love that I never see kids running around and usually people shut their traps during the movies.
You can always count on the Broadway for the best movie show selection downtown. Foreign, docs, and just the best film society stuff around. There's a hang-out area to wait for your friends, very nice staff (they know their films too) and fun film events. Home of the SL Film Society. Decent snack food (including pizza from the Pie, chunky cookys and good euro chocolate).
Parking is free in the parking garage to the east of the theatre (take the validation ticket in and stamp it yourself at the refreshment counter), although free street parking is often available after work. Listen for the cellist that often plays outside the door.
I joke with my friends that the Broadway is the only theater with movies worth seeing. I have to say I have not seen a bad movie at the Broadway. Arguably it has the best reviewed movies available in Utah. It was fun last year to go see a couple of screenings for Sundance too without having to navigate the zoo of Park city during Sundance. I dropped off a star because it the theater decor is a little dated/dingy and the restrooms are dirty but if you "go" before you go and don't drink too much of their coffee/drinks you should be OK.
