This was my first time to the Broadway Animal Hospital and I must say that I was really impressed that the entire place was really clean and didn't have that "vet" smell. It felt more like a regular doctor's office. I took my cat there for blood work and for his shots as well to check on his teeth since he's about 20 years old now.
However, there was one "nurse" or vet tech was REALLY rude to me since I didn't have my cat in a carrier, which has never been an issue to any vet that I've taken my cat to. He's not skittish and he is literally the size of most lab puppies. Not only was she so rude, but condescending and then my friend heard her tell the front desk girl (who was really nice) that she "fucked up". I found that to be really unprofessional and rude not only to the front desk girl, but to the people who heard her in the waiting office. I have no idea why that tech even has a job, she totally rubbed me the wrong way.
Anyways, I had Dr Hauk and he was AMAZING with my cat and answered every question I had and was extremely timely with his blood taking and general check up. I would definitely recommend taking your animal here bc he's actually a vet doctor that treats your animal with the same decency and consideration as a human! That's hard to find, let me tell you!
The visit was $335 for the blood work, vaccination, check up, and for ear cleaning solution. It was more expensive than I thought it was going to be, but for the type of care I received it was worth the piece of mind.
I have clients that bring their dog here and have yet to hear a bad review.
I had to go here for an "emergency" with my pet. By the time I left, I knew I wouldn't be back. Instead of quickly handling my bleeding cat, the receptionist rudely made me just stand there while he chatted with someone else and casually filled out paperwork. He is rude, disinterested, and I won't be back. I took my cat to another vet almost immediately, and that vet suggested that Broadway took the easiest and least effective path in treatment of my cat instead of actually having concern for the animal. I'd rather drive further for good care than be overcharged for rude and indifferent treatment of my pet.
I recently left the Broadway Animal Hospital. Primarily because of the poor customer service. The "gentleman" at the front desk is quite possibly one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. Every time I left, I was fuming.
Secondly, forget trying to get your prescription food re-filled here, their policy is that the vet has to approve every re-fill, but I was never asked anything in regards to the health of my pet. Un-needed red tape.
Anyone weary of Dr. Kaz might want to consider Dr. Hauk, who joined this hospital a few months ago. We had no problems with Dr. Kaz, but we've been working with Dr. Hauk recently, and we REALLY, REALLY like him. He's a good listener, he's excellent with follow-up, he is straightforward and yet caring, very professional. Just as good with people as he is with pets.
Give Dr. Hauk a try before you write off this hospital. He's great.
Dr. Kaz is the most caring vet I've ever taken my pets to. His staff is very friendly, the costs aren't high, and the office hours are convenient. (He also makes emergency house calls.) He will personally call you after every visit to check up on how your pet it doing. He really loves animals and wants to work with you to keep your pets healthy and happy.
EDITED 9/1/07:
I have been disappointed with this office lately. Dr. Kaz is still the same caring vet, although he's very difficult to get on the phone, but his staff is another story. Most of them are pretty rude or just indifferent. I am still taking my cats there, because I really like Dr. Kaz, but his vet techs are starting to grate on my nerves.
Dr Kaz and Dr Hauk are amazing. If you want good care at reasonable prices, go here for now on if you are close by.
I have recently been getting Dr. Hauk and he was a great additon to the group. I think Dr Kaz may be retiring soon, it looks like. But he was great over the years.
Sometimes the staff is not very helpful, its hit or miss
I brought my cat in for a check-up. I had been putting it off for some time since we moved to Chicago. Bad companion animal owner! Bad!
Anyway, I made the appointment and was able to bring my cat in that same week. We arrived a little early and they were able to quickly see us. The manner was pretty straightforward. Not especially cozy but definitely professional.
Cost was what it was. Full check-up, including bloodwork and shots, came to about $200+.
I've finally found a vet that treats my pets like real animals!
I had to call around the entire city to get an appointment for my two cats. Very few vets answered the phone. Banfield said they were booked for the rest of the summer!!! I needed to get my cats in for ear infections. I decided to go in person to BAH and the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. They were able to fit me in that same week. Personally, I love the old-school vet office feel. I cringe at the chichi upscale animal vets. If I don't feel comfortable, my cats are surely going to be scared.
Dr. Kas was extremely helpful and gentle with my cats. My littlest cat is extremely skiddish, and he calmed her down. His vet assistant even calmed her enough to put drops into her ears, which was never possible before without tranquilizers. I had to bring both cats back for a checkup, and Dr. Kas remembered them by name before seeing the charts. He also called the house to follow up recently.
In a city of revolving-door vets and impersonal express care, Dr. Kas and the BAH is a refreshing reminder that animal care can and should be personalized and complete.
I've been to this vet probably 5 or 6 times. My pet has recently been diagnosed with a medical condition that requires me to give it shots a few times a day.
In these last several months I have been consistently frustrated with my service and the staff at Broadway Animal Hospital. I have so many things to add I'm just going to have to put them as points!
- I have to keep calling them to get my test results. It's tough to get someone to call you back.
- On the day I went to pick up my pet from being there overnight and having numerous tests I had to wait an hour past my appointment time while I sat there worried. They took the easy patients who arrived after us first. The Vet tech kept complaining how he was in such a bad mood that day. Finally, after two people saw me sitting there crying, someone said, "Oh, it won't be too much longer."
- The other vet tech is a gruff woman who seems lackadaisical in her techniques.
- When you walk in and stand at the front desk they must not be able to see you. There has to be some sort of film over the window opening that doesn't allow them to see people standing directly in front of them because what else would explain why my boyfriend and/or I have had to stand there for up to 20 minutes without being even acknowledged on three separate occasions?!
- Most importantly, I feel like Dr. Kaz isn't all he's cracked up to be. He's pretty gas-happy. If he thinks your pet is even remotely spastic he wants to gas the heck out of it instead of being calm and cool. This involved sticking my kitty in a tiny plexiglass box barely larger than my cat and then filling it with gas to nearly knock her out.
The last time I came in he said AGAIN, "Maybe I should just give her some sedative first...Oh, you think she'll be ok? Yes, she was last time. Ok" Then he tried to take my pet's blood "in the back" with the vet tech even though he's done it before (without incident) in the regular exam room. It's like he thinks my animal is going to flip out at all times and doesn't recognize the importance of having the pet owner there to calm your animal.
I don't feel like he cared about me or my cat.
The whole place had been great while I lived in the area. My cat never had a problem with boarding and even was quiet when they gave her a bath! One problem I had was their hours. One person told me that if I had to board her, she had to be dropped off before 5:30, forcing me to leave work early, and on my last trip there, I found out she had to be dropped off by 7:00 at the latest. Also, the last time I went, they forgot to give her a bath so they gave her one right before I left, but didnt dry her out very much! So i had one wet (and pissed off) cat for the ride back to my apartment!
This place is a big fat ripoff!! I took my cat there because he stopped eating and became very weak. They did so many tests on him over a week's time and finally, about $1000 later, found out that he had FIV and said basically that there was nothing that they could do. I was determined to save my cat so I went around to other shelters and vets and found out that all I had to do was force feed him for about 2 weeks and now, a year later, he is in great health and eating just as much as ever. I will never return to this vet again, I have recently found a great vet named Dr. Jewell, go there instead!!
Dr. Hauk is great, and I found the office to be easy to work with. Also, affordable.
