Broad Ripple Vintage is great fun. Even if you don't find anything you want, browsing through the sea of polyester will no doubt hold some entertainment value. Last time I was in here, I saw a pair of white gogo boots that I still covet. I held off on them only because, well, I have an entire closet wall full of shoes already. But if they're still around the next time I hit this place up, I might just have to cave.
Some people complain because Broad Ripple Vintage apparently plays nothing but The Doors, but rumor has it that it's actually boosted sales, and that's why they keep doing it. I don't know if that's true or not, but I think The Doors are just the thing for this shop. No complaints here!
Just went here this past week for the first time. I have to admit I don't usually shop at vintage stores, but now I'm asking myself WHY??
I found at least 15 things I wanted. I ended up buying only a couple, promising myself I'll head back soon.
Bought my sister a great black shirt that looks like something a painter would wear (I don't know how else to explain it, but it's got some buttons on the front and is long, like a frock?) and I got a really cool silver and turqoise ring for my other sister. Great place to shop for gifts! I am heading back soon with some girlfriends...we could spend hours here!
Like my fellow yelpers, I love Broadripple Vintage. I really enjoy talking to the owner every time I go in...have never seen her when she wasn't in a great, upbeat mood. She's also always willing to help you find what you need...on my last couple of visits, in fact, I scored two items that she had but hadn't put into inventory yet! Very cool...
Now, I will say that I have not bought a lot of clothing here yet. I was a vintage diva back in my undergrad days at IU. These days, I haunt such shops for the jewelry for the most part. My better half doesn't have a single pair of cufflinks that didn't come from a vintage shop...the best and still our faves were the silver one inset with carved ebony tiki masks - from this store, of course! As for me, I like to buy some of the old pieces of jewelry and give them new life by re-working them....and some I just keep "as is."
The parking lot is small, but parking on a nearby street affords the chance to visit other shops in the area.
I got the cutest pair of pink-and-black polka dotted retro glasses here. My coffee shop friends say they make me look like Downtown Julie Brown.
Legendary style comes cheap at Broad Ripple Vintage. If you're looking for a costume, a cute t-shirt, a guayabera, odds and ends, knicks and knacks, this place is a goldmine. Guys, take note: This is not a bad stop for a first date, if the girl doesn't have Victoria Beckham taste. You might get her to put on a fashion show--and pick up some cheap threads in the process.
P.S.--Bargaining is not out of the questioning here.
By far one of the better vintage stores you'll ever visit, Broad Ripple Vintage, owned by the eccentric and awesome John and Stephanie, also proudly plays The Doors at all times. You will literally be guaranteed to hear The Doors anytime you walk into the store. The owners consider it somewhat of a Doors museum, and claim that they are the only business in the world that exclusively plays The Doors every day that they are open.
You can shop for stylish outfits, old suits, or of course, components for your Halloween costume (when the place gets really busy). They have operated in the same location for years, and it's always fun to shop there, even if you aren't really looking for anything. Chances are, a wander through the place and you'll find something that looks irresistible.
If you are interested in mostly 60's & 70's retro, this is definitely for you! If you are interested in older than that, you may find a piece here or there, but I'd only make it a resource for the kitschy clothes. Staff is pleasant enough.
Broadripple is vintage clothing heaven, with a Bermuda Triangle of clothing shops all within walking distance of one another. I always seem to get lost there for hours - caught in a shopping vortex. I've found some of my most favorite pieces that will always be in my wardrobe (vintage Bebe - the best!). Sure, you have to be patient and dig through piles upon piles of clothes to find that perfect something, but isn't that part of the fun?
My mom and her best friend recommended these places to me when I was a teenager. Don't tell her I said this, but Mom was right - again! Don't you hate it when they do that?
Broad Ripple Vintage is the best used clothing store in the world, bar-none. Back in high school when I lived on the northside I'd always get pumped to make the trek down to Broad Ripple Vintage. My rummaging always proved rewarding. In fact, I still have a couple rockin' belt buckles that I bought here back in the day. If you're lookin for reasonably priced used/vintage/thrift finds this is THE place.
One of the coolest places I've ever shopped. Fun stuff everywhere you look! Awesome.
