Category: Men's Clothing [Edit]
Neighborhood: HillcrestWhat is this place? A money laundering operation? A front for something else?
I went into "British Invasion" for the first time in January of this year ('08). I was only there for a couple of minutes. I found that the clothing was interesting, but not really my style. I was on the verge of leaving when a voice behind me said, in a British-toned Middle Eastern accent, "Sir, you have to leave!"
I turned and examined the creature who had spoken. He appeared to be the store clerk or manager. I said, "What?" He replied, "Sir, you have to leave!"
"Why do I have to leave?" I asked him.
For the third time, he simply said, "Sir, you have to leave!" in a very arrogant and aggressive way, as though I were a homeless person or shoplifter who had already been 86'd from the premises.
Again, I asked him why. He wouldn't answer. So I left. The store is private property, after all, and one can be asked to leave for any reason or no reason -- unless one is being discriminated against because of race, age, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, or something of that sort.
I normally do not feel that anyone is discriminating against me. I am a recognized figure in the local business community. I did not give this clerk, manager, or whatever he was, any reason to want to throw me out.
After leaving the store, I noticed that the person who had so rudely thrown me out had gone out of the store himself, closing the door and leaving a note -- with smiley face -- saying "Will return in five minutes."
My suspicion is that the clerk or manager thought that I was unlikely to buy anything, so it was fine to be rude to me instead of simply saying, "Sir, I need to close up the store for a few minutes. Do you mind?"
I did make an effort to contact the owners in LA and Palm Springs. No luck.
Maybe they're dead and buried somewhere.

I am giving this place 5 stars because:
~Great layout, not over crowded
~Friendly & good looking sales person
~Great selection of stylish clothes
~Location (other great places in the near area)
~Room near the dressing rooms to do a quick runway to get friend's opinions
~They carry English Laundry
I would give them 4 stars for:
~The counter. Although it looked comfortable for the sales person sitting down it is akward with shopping bags for the customer to not have any space to put things on the desk (not counter) during the transaction.
~Limit of average sizes. I was there with 4 friends, we were all 31-33 waist and 32-34 length for jeans. Many of the styles did not have these "average" sizes. Most t-shirts only had one s, one m and one l. I realize that some stores do this to promote buying, but it wouldn't hurt to have maybe a few in the more common sizes on display.
I will go back next time I am in the area. Hilcrest has been in need of some great clothing stores for some time now. Enough of the Bufflo Exchange and Flashback (don't go back) types. Although the gusy taking their shirts off in front of Buffalo on Sunday got our attention...
This new boutique rules! I love their variety of stylish and sexy menwear and accessories. The decor is tastefully industrial with the Vitruvian Man's reproduction on the back wall, cool fitting rooms, and suspension racks. If you're a man and you want stylistically classy hipness, go there; if you're a girl take your man-- or any man for that matter--there now! The Monarchy denims are scorching hot and the gamut of relevant Outrage, BB, Salvage, and Henleys items are just a new found treasure.
