Taking into consideration it was 3 am, my group was somewhat inebriated and the place was packed, Brite Spot was OK.  The customers provide some visual entertainment while the relatively good mannered staff try to keep up.
I can't remember everything we ordered but no one left unhappy. My pancakes, sausages and coffee were nothing special, but nothing to complain about either.
The place oozes Silverlake 'I'm so Hip-ness".  There's more men in black eyeliner in this place than at a Cure concert.

Not sure I'd make a special visit but it had its late night charm.

Try your luck, it can be a good meal or a so-so meal.

It has many vegetarian and vegan options and it's open very late. The food can be quite good but there are times when the fates intervene. The service is typically good.

The place has its charm. You'll be served by the hip and you'll dine in the company of the tragically hip.

My preference is towards the breakfast menu and their baked goods. I find that they are more consistent.

Sweet little diner open late, late, late! A great place after the bar or nursing your hangover the next day. Staffed mainly by bored hipsters, but the serivce is fast. There is a tiny older lady who waits there sometimes who is just a little slice of heaven - sweet and super fast service!

The pesto omelette is the best. They have the best diner coffee I've ever had. Burgers are so-so. I perfer the breakfast menu.

I have been going to this location for about 10 years off and on. I am sure it has changed ownership over the years. However, these days the food is mediocre and over priced just like everything else in LA. If nothing else is available after you hit the bars and you have to have something to eat try the sweet potato fries. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are wet and nasty. If you don't mind over paying for basically diner food go for it. I know they have an outside service for the deserts and they are very good.

this place has everything you'll ever need.  tacos, sandwiches, amazing looking deserts from a local bakery, soup, salad, pasta, fries, coffee.....no alcohol though.  its a good spot for breakfast [expect a wait] or after the bar.  they stay open until 1 or 2 on weeknights.

people there are pretty chill.  one night i was seated at a booth next to a spanish speaking party and it felt like they were on a bull horn.  but other than that it was still good.  [i dont like hearing peoples conversations at restaurants in any language....]

Sucks so good!  I love the Brite Spot!

Yes, I'm vegetarian and therefore biased (they have lots of options for us).  Of course this place is overpriced... look at where it is!  And just think, where else can you score Vegi Chorizo and Eggs at 3:30am?

Music is always good, and service is always "hipster-slow" (meaning, the waiters and waitresses are just too cool to move that quickly on your behalf).  The place is awesomely decorated, and there's always lots of local weirdos around.

Bomb-ass desserts!  Just do what we did last night - share a huge slice of pie, get hot tea and coffee, and walk out with only $12 spent and a satisfying late-night dining experience in your memory to Yelp about later.

(For the record, I've had the food here many times.  Never healthy, always tasty.  Some people expect WAY too much for $10 nowadays).

So if you've got any Hooker Money left over from further west on Sunset, slide over to the Brite Spot and bask in FREAKY GOODNESS.

Blah.
Soggy fries, oil-soaked fish-fry sandwich (I ordered grilled, not FRIED).
Dumpy diner food with retro style ambience.  I wasn't the only one who ordered and I was able to witness a general "blah" reaction.  Nothing particularly fresh, crunchy or wildly tasty.  Next time you find yourself hungry @ midnight try a taco truck or even *gasp* Denny's!

Very very hit or miss.  Late at night there are few alternatives, so I make my way here often.
I've had some really great food here.  The desserts, especially the brownie with ice cream are tops.  But other things like their pasta are really bland.
I commend them for the veggie options, the variety, and tastiness of many of the dishes.  I only wish it was a bit cheaper and more consistent.

Not so brite.

We walked over there this Sunday looking forward to trying this place.    Liked the place inside.. the menu looked rad having all the veggie options, etc.  but the food, portions and service fell way flat of the prices. I left disappointed.

I got the veggie melt.  You would think for the price it would come with salad and fries but I had to pick one or the other.  I got the salad, which the waitress didn't bring until WITH the sandwich..   The tiny sandwich looked lonely on the large plate with no fries or coleslaw or anything that a pattymelt/tunamelt meal would normally come with anywhere else.    the BF's meatloaf was sad too. He said he would much rather drive to one of our old favs in Burbank than walk over to the brite spot again.

I can see the appeal of an open late right near to the echo after a night of concert & drinking appeal, but meh otherwise.

I really wanted this place to be awesome.   oh well.

Came by here late wednesday night after a night of bowling at Lucky Strikes. At first you wouldnt think that this place served food cause from the outside its a little old and raggy but when we came inside this place was pretty cool... nice people. The Seats looked like ruby red slippers from the wizard of oz!

This place was a little slow at night but the food was great! I had the Chicken fried steak and eggs and my friend had the Sirloin Steak and eggs and they were delicious!

I would definately come back here again any time im out in the area for some good ol' late night breakfast!

For my first time coming to Brite Spot, I must say that it is a good location for a late night crawl. Asides from the fact that they're open until the wee hours of the morning, their food was decent but nothing to rave about. It was just a pretty basic menu with your usual sandwiches, salads, soups, pastas and breakfast selections. They did have very good sweet potato fries. Asides from that, it's just your basic diner with an extra touch of eccentricity along the walls.

It's good diner food. I really enjoy their vegetarian options. The only bad part is that when you come late at night after the clubs or bars, expect a long wait. The service is a bit slow but I can't blame them since they're open so late and it would be retarded to keep the place fully staffed for a couple of hours because people were finished with their night.

I heart the Brite Spot! My parental units and I usually hit the B.S. on a Sunday morning around 10am; just before the crowd gets there, and all the parking spots are taken in front.

Coffee is bottomless.

The pork Chorizo is the best! I'm not a rice eater, so I get double beans instead. Right on.

I had the Cobb Salad the last time I was there, yes for breakfast, and I devoured the entire bowl. The chicken was hot, the bacon was crispy, and the ranch was perfectly on the side.

The desserts by Darby in the glass case look magnificent!  We're always too full to try them, but might be a great idea just to hit the B.S. for dessert one day and try them all!

Holla!

They need to do a better job in the kitchen for the price they charge!  French toast and coffee ten bucks?  Skimpy beef short ribs too!  Come on now!  And they were shut down for a couple days due to vermin infestation!  How do you like them apples?

I came upon Brite Spot at 3am on an early Saturday morning, and my experience was incredible.  I would highly recommend the place to any late-night munchers, especially if you're a vegetarian or vegan.

It's often difficult to find late night grub of the veggie variety, but Brite Spot was quite a change from the norm.  First, we arrived and although the place was crowded for 3am, we were seated right away and our orders were taken very quickly.  We got our food in under 10 minutes, which was amazing.  Our server was Bob, who was just great.

We ordered the breakfast burrito (with rice) and the veggie melt (with vegan potato salad).  Every bit of the meal was mouth-watering.  I don't know how they made the veggie-melt, but it was better than the real thing.  It was so cheesy and delicious!  And the vegan potato salad... I don't know how they did it.  It was so creamy and amazing - and vegan!  The breakfast burrito was gigantic, and oh so tasty.  I also liked the rice that came with it, but it was pretty standard as far as rice goes.  When we got our 2 meals, I didn't believe that we could make a dent in them, but we cleaned both plates!

I also noticed on their wall that they have vegetarian and vegan options for basically whatever meat you would like replaced.  Wonderful!  I almost never make it over to the eastside, but next time I do - I'm coming back.

This place has been around for 60 years and though I've lived in Echo Park for half that time, I had not tried the Brite Spot until today.  I was nursing a serious Benadryl hang-over and needed some grub to get me going.

I actually found an open parking spot out front!  Too bad that was the end of the excitement.  I dug the cool sparkly red booth seats.  But, I really don't get the clown paintings.  Clowns are creepy.  Clowns don't belong in Echo Park.

They have some early bird specials for $6.95 (available until 11 am).  I ordered the one with eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast.  Massively greasy all around.  I think it even outdoes Denny's.  With so many other, better options nearby I will not be coming back.

This place has so much potential with its location and its charming retro decor.

But it completely fails to impress. Utterly disgusting.

DO NOT EAT HERE.

Unless you think being queasy and miserable all day is fun.

I had eggs benedict. The ham was some abhorent pork product, the english muffin wasn't even toasted, and to add insult to injury there was a  full CUP of OLD hollandaise sauce dumped on top. I scraped most of the sauce off, to make it somewhat palatable.

My boyfriend had an omelette with chicken and spinach and other veggies that I cannot remember. The chicken was rubbery and grisly, as if it were meat past its prime heated in the microwave, the eggs were burnt, the indeterminate veggies were wilty. The whole thing just tasted like it was made from old produce.

Brite spot, methinks not. More like Barf spot.

My husband and I went to the Brite Spot today for lunch, and everything totally sucked!  I will NEVER go there again.  Never.

- The water tasted like it came from an old dishwasher.
- The french fries were dry as all get out.
- My husband's fish for his fish and chips was greasy and bland.
- My turkeyburger had a decidedly fleshy taste that did not warrant more than two bites.
- My Sprite soda was flat and also tasted like it was made with that old dishwasher water.
- The waitress was slow.
- And the overall vibe of the place is just dark and depressing.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, the bill was rather high considering the low quality yuckiness that we had to endure.

For me, there was nothing "brite" about this spot at all.  I'd give them negative stars if it were possible.

Just ate dinner here last night while waiting for a show at The Echo about a block away.  The place looks like an old diner, and that's exactly what it is.  According to the menu they have been in business since 1949.  They have quite an eclectic menu with anything from Mexican to a Hamburger to Pasta.  I ordered the Hot Meat Loaf Sandwich, which should have been an open faced meatloaf sandwich, but instead was served the Grilled Meatloaf Sandwich, which was a normal sandwich with meatloaf in it.  The sandwich was OK, I feel like the meatloaf was just ground beef with a few spices added as opposed to actual meatloaf.  I can't complain too much, other than getting my order wrong the dining experience was OK.  The service was good and quick, but the place doesn't stand out to me as anywhere I would want to go back to.

Its been a long time since I've re-visted, but when a restaurant i wanted to go to was closed, we passed by the Brite Spot, we were hungry and they had parking, good enough we thought.  We ordered the veggie ciabatta and the reuben grill both with fries, the sandwiches were good! The wait was a little long but we left the restaurant fully satisfied with our meal.  The place was clean and not packed at all, had a nice dinner and would come back.

The chocolate blueberry waffles are AMAZING. They were SO good, I would definitely come back to this place for those waffles.

I thought the whole environment was really nice too. I went for breakfast, and it was just a nice place to sit down and eat and chill.

The waiters were very nice too, which I really liked.

The only thing I DIDN'T like was the O'Brian potatoes--those were like, TOO greasy / flavorful for my taste. I like it when they're more crisp and  not so mushy, but that's how I thought it tasted.

Oh and another thing--I did order the 'Chocolate Strawberry Waffles' which was on the menu, but then they came out with the chocolate blueberry ones without telling me until they brought it out. Honestly, I didn't mind since they ended up being really good, but I just wanted to give a heads up to others cause that could happen again.

Oh and the wait actually took a while--I thought it took a little longer than other restaurants, but I really thought those waffles were worth it.

Otherwise, it is kind of expensive and parking can be a drag depending on whether it's busy or not, but I liked it a lot :)

Possibly some of the worst service I've ever encountered in LA and the food is over rated.

Unless you're drunk and starving, it's late and there is NO WHERE ELSE you can go - do not go here.

The service was so bad we didn't even finish eating before we stood up and left.

The food I've had here is pretty good (especially the shepherd's pie), but it's a LITTLE overpriced, especially since the portions aren't that big. The eccentric decor and music is up my alley though, so I'll pay a little extra to feel cool.

The Brite Spot is what it is.  It has changed a lot over the years, most notably the prices....but it's still one of my favorite places in the city to grab a bite to eat.  You don't have to wait, unless it's Sunday morning, you don't have to dress a certain way, and you don't have to worry that you're going to order something that you're not going to like.

All of the dishes are made with a side of ol' fashioned love, and especially if the old lady in the pink shirt is your server, you'll feel like you're getting a home cooked meal.  Portions are large, but if you have room for a dessert afterward then please do as they're all delicious.

It's open late too, so when you spill out of the Echo in search of a pancake, its your place of choice.

I've frequented the Brite Spot on occasion over the last four years and it's pretty consistent: convenient late hours, easy-to-find street parking, tasty food (eggs benedict, lox & cream cheese bagels, mmm). I love the red sparkly vinyl booths and the place is perfect for people watching. It does have incredibly slow service and while they may lament to us that they only have one waiter or one cook on, you'd think they'd figure out how to manage the shifts by now. But I guess if you're already out at 2:30 am, what are you in a hurry for? The prices are standard for LA, but a bit high given that service can be so inattentive.

I certainly have enjoyed some of my experiences here, but now realizing how many other diner food and brunch options there are in the area I'm more keen on trying those out.

I've been going here for the past couple of years and noticed it morph from your typical diner to a hip restaurant. I like the 60s ambience. The red slick velvet chairs. The fact that they have a mixture of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Noticed today that the menu is new and has less dishes than before. It used to be like multiple pages. But what kind of dining expectations do we usually have if we're going to eat at a diner?

Had the sweet potato fries with the California veggie omelet. The fries were cooked perfectly. My last visit they were overcooked. The omelet was excellent. I agree the pricing here is somewhat on the steep end. But to me the convenience of the location, decent food, and the friendliness of the staff keeps me coming back.

Great for late-nite hunger trips. Love the pancakes and the veggie burgers are pretty good also. The salads are always cold but surprisingly satisfactory. Service varies - depends on the day I guess? One thing I don't like is that I smell like the place for the rest of the day, but I guess that's what diners are all about.

As much as it pains me to admit this....I had never been to the Brite Spot until recently. I know. I know.....how can one grow up in LA....especially the East side and not at least venture in before now? What can I say...I am a bad person.

After a night of drinking, dancing, and debauchery what better way to end the night then to continue the alliteration with a delectable diner?

The food hit the spot...it was the correct amount of heaviness that soaks up the weariness of the night and gets you ready to deal with the coming sun. Since we were catching a meal pretty late not all the choices were available but the kitchen was considerate enough to accommodate us (fresh gravy, new coffee, etc). What made this first visit into, what will be, the first of many was the staff. It's Thursday night (well, actually Friday morning)....it's late (well, actually early)...they have been busy for hours with a steady stream of late night revelers, hipsters, and the occasional drunktard....and still they had a smile and great attitude. If you see Leah, you treat her well....I am going to marry that woman.

It is just what you need after a night out and about....because as much as I love both noodles and tacos, they can get old after awhile. Brite Spot offers some variety to your late night fare. I need to go back....if for nothing else but to try that pie that I saw....it looked absolutely diabolical.

I hadn't been to Brite Spot before, but I'm a fan now. Yeah, it's a diner, but I dig that, and their tofu scramble was terrific - I loved the variety of veggies. And the desserts looked amazing - I'll have to try one for sure next time.

I know others have complained about bad service and bland food, but aside from a burrito mix-up we would have never known about if they hadn't told us, it was a pretty good experience and the food was tasty. Better service than I've had at Fred 62 on occasion, even.

i firmly believe that there is some sort of horrible conspiracy behind diners.

in the good old days, a diner used to be a place where you could go for every meal if you were a man who couldn't cook worth a damn because, well, obviously, you were a man. or a badass stereotype-quashing lady or rebellious teen. mama's home cooking at an affordable price for all drifters and con men and runaways. dirt poor writers welcome as well. at least, this is how it is in movies, and in books.

now, in the real world, the present, diners are shitty places to get really crappy food at exorbitant prices. and people still go to them! in droves!

i don't know the history of diners, i'm just making all this up, but what i think happened was this: some smart guy named mr. denny knew everyone wanted to be like those cool guys in the movies, so he started this chain of fake-o diners, 50s style crap places, and he jacked up the prices like crazy and made a fortune. places like mel's followed suit and took it in the vintage direction, and places like norm's took it in the really skeezy direction, but they all signed a pact to keep their prices really absurdly high and keep the quality barely at food grade. they went around the 50 states buying up nice little mom'n'pop establishments and making them serve sweepings-off-the-floor omelets cooked in french fry grease for 10.75.

even diners that refused to sign the pact still jacked up their prices because it was "what everyone else was doing" and diner owners are mewling whimpering sheep.

i have yet to find a diner that has not been blighted by this horrible conspiracy. it makes me weep.

and. and. and. well. the brite spot seems like higher quality fare than most. i want to give it four stars because my tofu mess thingie was pretty nice, really fresh and pretty tasty, the ambiance and jukebox selection were lovely, it seemed clean and i stole two marmalade packets even though i didn't get any toast, but it was SO OVERPRICED and i am so sad about the diner conspiracy that i have to give it only two stars. oh diners of old, i miss you so though i never got to meet you.

221 reviews of Brite Spot and nearly 1/4th of them mention the word "h*pster".  I don't have the time to research whether or not all these mentions are pejorative or if they're comments on the frequency of the word like mine, but whatever.  This is located in Echo Park, 20 to 30-somethings who are somewhat "artsy" sometimes eat here, the word will therefore get bandied about ad infinitum.

This is just a very basic old-school diner with decent-to-very good service, hearty food (including many vegetarian options), and a location convenient to nights out at music venues or bars.  It's not going to astonish you, unless you're seriously drunk or high, but it will satisfy your appetite. It certainly worked for me after the L.A. Craft Beer Fest.  Yes, I was drunk.

This is one greasy one-night stand I will not regret. Yes, it was 2AM. Yes, I had imbibed a beverage or two. Yes, there was butter and cheese and grease involved. And pie. Let's not forget the pie.

Brite Spot had twinkled beckoningly at me all through my whirlwind weekend in LA. I fought off her flirtatious stare as long as I could, but come Saturday night, I could fight it no longer. We met in a greasy embrace that could only be described as guiltily delicious.

The grilled ham and cheese, while I don't remember why/when/how I ordered it, was fantastic. I remember my dining companion moaning in ecstasy. It might have been a "When Harry Met Sally" moment, it was that shameless. Was it worth $10? Well, considering this is a diner trying to be divey in LA, sure, I guess that is the correct price.

The blackberry and rhubarb pie gets props for its excellent "a la mode" serving. Our server piled high the ice cream and Cool Whip. We might have screamed in anticipation. Was it worth $7? Eh. The rhubarb was the slightest bit chewy, I must say. It had not been simmered to its correct, disintegrating texture.

Still. Our server served us well, the food was greasy and good, and let's talk about the wonderful wood paneling and sparkly red vinyl seats. I mean, it's an old diner in a fine spot. What more could two young ladies want as they stumble drunkenly home but a warm haven for their rumbling bellies and bleary eyes?

Yuck.  Only been at this dump once.

The only thing worse than the bland, overpriced food and terrible service is the pretentious crowd.  Seriously, can't these pseudo-intellectual hipster types keep their conversations down?  Not everyone wants to listen to their dumbass, wide-eyed views on politics and equality.... Please, STFU or keep it down and let others try to look for the sunny side of paying a considerable buck for an overpriced pile of crap....

Brite Spot, oh Brite Spot.

Where are the tuna melts of yesteryear?  Whither the perfect crunchy golden crust, the delicate fries kissed with seasoned salt, the albacore crisp-grilled yet moist within?

Oh, where has gone your abundant menu, so graced with choices varied and tempting? Where is the veggie meatloaf, once so redolent of hearty mushrooom? What of the salmon benedict, so pink beneath its cloak of hollandaise?

For now your fries are hardened shards, your cheese unmelted slabs, your sandwiches lop-sided heaps.  Your salad dressing stings of ferment, your club sandwich is crumbly and dry.  Your burgers, once plump and juicy, now taste greasy and over-fried.

Once you were a secret, a hidden lover eager to please.  Then, a favorite, bustling with hipsters in skinny jeans.   But now you are a faded courtesan,  long of tooth and broad of beam, good only for the latest nights when other girls are long adream.

Brite Spot, oh Brite Spot, where are the tuna melts of yesteryear?
