Best dinner out in Downtown New London!
Excellent food, Amazing wine List (make sure to check out the downstairs wine cellar!), and Friendly staff!
Stop in for salads, apps (Brie in a box is my favorite!), nightly entrees, and wines! Oh, the wines! Thank you Brie & Bleu thank you! -

I've enjoyed this cute little spot several times. It 's a great date destination for 2, or perhaps 4. But I wouldn't call it the "best dinner in the area." It has a very short, very focused menu - if you like wine and cheese, this is a fun place to eat. But if you have a large group or are looking for a range of foods, this isn't going to fit. Don't expect to find a steak on the menu.
The wine store next door is a fun pairing, just be prepared to pay high prices - sometimes 2-3x what you might find online or at a liquor store. The redeeming factor is that the owner is a true collector, and stocks plenty of things like Mersault that are hard to find elsewhere. (I paid $85 for one that was retailing online for $27... But I got it RIGHT THEN. You pay for convenience.)
The cheese store is built into the cafe - they're one and the same. Try the Marcona Almonds, the Manchego, and the Humboldt Fog. You won't be disappointed! -

I would come back to New London just for this place.
Their wine cellar is amazing. Def come here to do one of their wine tastings...or the beer tasting. Anyone who works there can easily tell you 20 different wines that will go well with what you want to eat...or that are good in whatever category you give them. Cab Sauv under $20 and you'll get a bunch of really excellent wines.
Salads and sandwiches at Brie and Bleu are incredible. Get the salad with the pears in it. Mmmmm so good! If the weather is nice, push to get a table outside on the water. Granted it's the Thames and not that exicting, but it's improving.
I would give their looks and atmosphere (especially in the cellar) 10 stars. -

these people are geniuses. no seriously. why would you not have a joint selling both wine AND sassy cheeses? I haven't eaten in the restaurant out back, but i have spent plenty of giggly time tasting sample after sample of cheese. if there is nothing out for you to grab by the fistful definitely ask for samples and they will give you one. then you can say "well i'm not sure, can i get another taste of that?" and then just see how long they play along.
the wine cellar is a festival of delight. the wine dude is very knowledgable and more importantly, was sufficiently impressed with how knowledgable i am. he googled wine for me on the internet and was super nice, though we'd missed the tasting by a day and he didn't have anything left for us to try. he would have gotten a fifth star for that. oh well wine dude, next time you'll think twice about rejecting my wine advances.
can't go wrong here. it's wine and cheese. for serious. -

Mystic, CT
My last dinner here was slightly less than the stellar experience I had come to expect at Brie & Bleu. I went with my parents for my birthday and our waiter was fairly atrocious. He seemed like he was trying... but he was slow, awkward, and had no answer for my father when he asked why it was taking so incredibly long between courses. I was very disappointed that despite it being the height of the summer season, there was no dinner menu as I had come to expect, no cheese plate menu, and no duck salad (my favorite). Our waiter never gave us an explanation for this change. We asked for a cheese plate and he ran away before finding out what sort we wanted. He gave us the most boring cheese plate ever, including the aged gouda we'd already eaten as an appetizer and some very basic cheddar and blue. It was very sparse and not at all enough for our table. He said he'd made it "extra big" for us but it was smaller than the cheese plates I've had there before. The whole dinner took hours longer than it should have. After my dad complained, we were each given the choice of another glass of wine or a dessert on the house. It would have been nice if he had comped all of our drinks considering the numerous disappointments. I took a dessert to go and here's the kicker... when we got home, we discovered he had given us the WRONG dessert. This waiter should NOT be left alone in this restaurant.
Nonetheless, the food was still supremely delicious (as usual) and the view was wonderful. Even the dessert I thought I didn't want turned out to be one of the most delicious desserts I've eaten in a long time. So let's hope this was just a fluke. I'll certainly be back to check on it.Listed in: Best places to hang out in…, Top Restaurants around Mystic

Great salads, bruscetta, and fondue. I like to order then go next door to the wine shop (same owners) and have them recommend a wine for my meal. Alway fun!

This place kicks ass. Wine and beer tastings and super yummy salads, bruschetta and desserts. And I love their chocolate fondue! It's small, but they have an awesome wine cellar and patio seating in the back.
This place is the one restaurant that I seriously miss from my college days in New London. Definitely go if you are in Northeastern Connecticut and looking for some good grub. -

Beacon, NY
Didn't get to eat, so this is for the attitude/service only, which I am admittedly picky about. Passing through on the way back to NYC and wanted to try this place for lunch. The host was quite rude and very frazzled. The 8- 10 seat bar was completely empty, just tables filled. He made us wait about 4 minutes before reappearing and then awkwardly barking that 'he's going to have to ask us to come back in 1 hour because we are AT CAPACITY' and turned us away cold. It was equal parts unwelcoming, ridiculous and untrue. Wish we could have had a snack and wine at the bar- but this was not an option I guess. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Will not be back. Very cute space though and a duck salad on the menu looked yummy.

So freakin' quaint I can't even describe it. Brie & Bleu is delicious and has eveything from a piece of amazing cheese to go, to a light lunch to a filling dinner.
It is a touch expensive for every day college dining, but that's not what its intended for. We went here for special occasions or to sample the amazing cheeses supplied daily.
I will definitely go here for dinner on Alumni weekend for as long as its still running.
Though I know I sound like Wallace from 'Wallace and Grommit...'

cute little casual place. beautiful outdoor seating with ocean views. great place to go for light fare for brunch. the salads are fresh and tasty, and the bred is also good. i haven't checked out the wine cellar yet, but it also looks promising.
