This place sadly closed. I was in there a month ago and the owner told me that business was down by 50% due to the economy.
The economy remains in the tank as witnessed by many vacant commercial spaces along Chicago Ave. And as Bette Davis once said, "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night!" So, much for the ecomomy in 2009.

Do not let this old dingy Firestone building with a parking lot crammed with cars and trucks in dire… Read more »
Every time I need to get my car repaired I wait far too long before doing it. My engine light has been on for the last 4 months, and I kept waiting to take care of it. I hate that vulnerable feeling of walking in to a repair shop with "take my money" practically tattooed across my forehead.
But, alas, I needed my oil changed, and figured I might as well just get it all taken care of at once. Swift Car Care is literally around the corner from my house, so I decided to give it a try. I couldn't be more pleased. They had a great deal on the oil change special, were friendly, responsive, and quick.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the cost. The oil change and checking of my car's computer together cost less than what I had been quoted just for checking the computer at Car-X. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I love when they vacuum your car and rotate your tires as part of the oil change, but they don't do that here. I guess I'll have to suck it up and suck it up (i.e. vacuum) myself.
The oil change included a thorough check of my car, which turned up a couple of minor problems. They were honest and straight-forward about what the problems were and how crucial the repairs were. (Because I've been burned before, I checked their price quotes for the suggested repairs, and they were right on target.)
I didn't actually get the repairs, so I can't speak to their mechanical abilities, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of service I received. So, I will definitely be taking my car back there when it is time to get the repairs.
UPDATE: It's been almost a year since I first ventured into Swift. Unfortunately, I've had to make a few more trips (stupid car) . Fortunately, it turns out the guys here are even better than I thought. They are always fast, friendly, and honest. As the other reviewers have indicated, they also go out of their way to make sure that you are happy.
They recognize me now and are always very kind. They even patched a flat tire for free even though I rolled in at closing time! So, I've changed my rating from 4 stars to 5 and they deserve every single one!
Friendly, fast and affordable! I had a leaky tire and Charlie had it looked at and fixed in just a few hours for a great price.
When my engine light came on, I took it to Charlie again, and was informed of the issues and that I should check with the dealer but it may still be covered under the warranty, and if so, I should take the car there - how's that for service! I promise that if the repairs aren't going to be covered by warranty, I am absolutely going back to Swift.
Yes, the shop is pretty worn down - but that means that they're not charging *me* extra money just to have a nice sofa in the waiting room. :)
Great find - thanks Yelpers. I took my car here after I got a flat. The people were helpful and friendly and seemed very honest. I'll definitely be back.
Seems like everyone else has had better experiences here. I think they like to draw people in with the cheap oil change. While I did get the cheapest oil change here that I've had in a long time, I had to leave my car there for 3 hours even though it was not busy and it was during the week during the day.
A couple months later, my car broke down. I decided to leave it at Bridgestone because they seem to have inexpensive prices. I got a phone call with news that the cost of repairs would be over $800 to change the radiator. I knew this was high, and got upset over how mechanics like to take advantage of people especially girls. I'm not an idiot.
I made a phone call to another mechanic, and the price was a little over $400...half the price! YES. They sent a tow to pick up my car.
Then I contacted Bridgestone to inform them that they are insane for charging double the price, and that I will not need their services.
I got a phone call back from Bridgestone 10 minutes later offering to do the repairs for the same price as the other place I was taking it to. HMMMMmm........I don't do business like that. sorry.
My bf just got his oil changed there because of the price, only to have to deal with a hood that wouldn't close afterwards...After huffing and puffing and saying it's not their fault, fixed the problem which was a small but annoying problem which took 5 minutes to fix.
This place Ripped me off and could have killed my wife and kid. They advertise a manager special for 39.99 plus tax that includes an oil change, tire rotation and new wind shield wipers. I got there at 4:45 and the guy said they may not be able to get it done until the next morning. The mechanics weren't working on any cars and seemed to just be hanging around. They were able to get my car done to pick up at closing that night. When I went to go pay it was over $49 and when I asked about it the guy said there was some EPA charge which does not show up on the bill. Then they wanted to charge me another $19.99 to reset my oil change light. It is still on, I have never been charged anything to reset that light when I got an oil change ever nor have I ever heard of a charge like that. The next day there was a bad rain storm and my wife had taken the car out. When she went to turn on the windshield wipers they weren't there. They took the old ones off and never replaced them. This place is not worth going to no matter what the price is. They will look for a way to rip you off and who knows if they are doing all the work on your car you are paying them for.
