I don't know why I had never been in this place before. Within minutes of coming in here I felt absolutely warm and glowy. "It feels like family." I told my friend. He assured me that it didn't. "Of course, not. I hate my family. I am absolutely in love with this place." I replied.

The service was lightening quick and the woman who ran the place was charming and patient with me while I took an eternity to hum and hah over what I wanted. Breakfast was delicious and amazingly flavorful. The atmosphere was cozy and I will absolutely be returning again.

Get dem grits! Seriously. They iz good.

Got the salmon benedict, pretty tasty. The staff is very friendly and funny. It's a really nice cozy breakfast spot, and from the time I went I think many people would agree. They even offer coffee to you when you're waiting for a clean table. And I believe it said they are 75% organic. I would come back if I was in town.

This is a great little spot tucked away in plain sight.

Everything is homemade and they have one of my favorite eggs bennys in town. The potatoes are well done, (word of warning they love green onions here and pretty much will garnish generously with it) Ben L explores more in his menu choices, every time I want to change it up I just go back to the Benedict. what can I say I'm a bit predictable.

anyways, whether it's a quick sour cream crumble cake (drool) and coffee or a full breakfast you'll be met with quick and friendly service. oh ya! always ask for a side of bread their como bread is awesome even if it has flax seeds.

Used to be our go-to breakfast place. Their eggs benedict was the best in town. This past weekend I had a meal there that wasn't worth the increased prices on the menu. The poached eggs were severly undercooked, and the potatoes as a side were also undercooked, gritty and cold. Even the coffee wasn't up to their usual standard. I'm going to take it as an "off day" but hope that they return to their usual level of attention to detail with the quality of their food.

This is a tiny place. Maybe 20 seats. Not too much on atmosphere but great for service. This is what you call a hole in the wall. The morning I went was very slow. Nice...no wait.
The Benedict I ordered in my quest for Portland's best was the Wild Salmon and red onion. The salmon had a lot of little pieces but the hollandaise had the right amount of lemon. The cheese grits were fine but a little thick for my taste.
The plate appearance was nothing to talk about, The typical " i didn't try to hard orange garnish slice"
It was OK but with Portland's many great choices I will pass on this one in the future,

Another breakfast club pick by my friend Lynda.  (Yes, I'm in a breakfast club.  There are 5 of us who belong to this "club".   Which is really just code for a reason to get together with friends monthly for brunch. The rules are that we can never have eaten at a particular restaurant for breakfast.  This allows us to try new places in the city...which is fine by me)!

This place has a unique menu.  Most of it organic.  The owner of this place was also our waitress, and she was hilarious!  I always like to ask the wait staff what they would recommend on the menu, and most of the time I go with their suggestion.  She highly recommended the catfish hash (this is apparently the only place in Portland that has this dish), so I shared this with my friend.  I don't usually go with fish for breakfast, but The fish was cooked perfectly, and had an amazing sauce on it!  It was served with potatoes.

Portions are large, so I most definitely would have had left overs if I wasn't in the sharing mood.  But left over fish in my opinion is usually not a good idea.   It's always chewy and/or smelly.  Coffee is a help-yourself set up.  All of the mugs in the joint are mismatched, which made me feel right at home.  The bread is baked there daily, and DELICIOUS!

Another perk?  It is right across the street from the Nike Store.  Where you can buy work-out clothes to exercise off the huge meal you will consume.

In order to give the new chef in back a break, they weren't seating at the outdoor tables on the particular beautiful sunny day that we arrived. Bummer. The dog really wanted to beg for bits of bacon and her little doggie dreams were shattered by a need for fewer orders to circulate through the kitchen.

I'm not sure if this 'new chef' means they've replaced their previous chef or if there was more than one chef to begin with. But the point is, if you've been a long time patron (Which I have not) you may notice a difference in taste and you may not. Lucky for me I have nothing to compare it to.

The Chinook book brought us in and I went again all normal breakfast requests in a restaurant such as this and ordered the breakfast burrito which came full of chorizo and some other things you'd expect on a breakfast burrito. It was awesome. And they provide hot sauce to slather all over the entire thing.

I think with the Chinook book discount our two meals (with waters) came out to $8 but I'd gladly come back for another go at full price. Good food, good service and hopefully next time, use of the outdoor tables.

I think that I ate at the most awkward restaurant in all of Portland this morning.  And I lived to tell the tale.

Inna found Bridges online and it was between our two homes so we met up there just after noon.  I got there first and put my name on the pad of paper by the door and waited no more than ten minutes before we were seated.

After we were brought coffee and water, I let the waitress know that we "needed" Bloody Marys and was given a lecture about how (per the OLCC) she wasn't allowed to serve booze if the customer "needed" it.  Inna pointed out that we didn't "need booze", we "needed Bloody Marys".  The waitress still wouldn't budge.  I then said that we "adored" Bloody Marys.  Nothing.  Inna tried "required" Bloody Marys and the waitress still wouldn't leave our table.  I finally got her moving when I tried a new tactic and said "can we just have two Bloody Marys, please?".  I did worry that she was going to give me a lecture on can v may but luckily she didn't travel down that road.

After all of that work, what was delivered were two very bland glasses of tomato juice, ice, and perhaps a shot of vodka.  Seriously, the drinks came in a pint glass and after Inna scooped out more than half of her ice, only half of the glass was full.  Plus, the only garnish was an over brined string bean. Bad form, Bridges.  After doctoring up the drink with Aardvark and Cholula, my Bloody Mary was...tolerable.  This made me wary of the food that was headed our way.

No cause for worry because what we got was delicious.  I had the cheddar grits plate which came with roasted vegetables (spinach, mushrooms, onions and peppers) and two poached eggs on top and I added a side of vegetarian sausage.  It was cheesy and salty and delicious.  Inna had the Sunset Benedict which consisted of spinach, tomatoes and avocado on top of an English muffin with poached eggs all topped with chipotle hollandaise sauce and a side of roasted potatoes.  She was a little taken aback by the spicy hollandaise sauce but got the regular kind on the side to mellow it out.  She was very happy with her order and we both rate the food very high.

What struck us most at the Bridges cafe was that it was a very coupley breakfast place but all of the couples were odd which added to the awkward experience of the restaurant.  Every couple sat on the same side of the booth and none of them talked to each other.  That means that 90% of the patrons were facing us at our back table which laid perpendicular to the rest of the tables and raised on a platform chatting about the most inappropriate topics of conversation.  It was a little hard to eat knowing that all eyes were on us.  Granted, we are fun and funny but we weren't there to entertain the troops, we were there to eat and get our drunk on and only half of those things happened.

I would have loved to give this place 4 stars but the lecture on alcohol serving along with the disappointment of the cocktail dropped it down.  The food, however, was worth another try.  I'll be back some day.

We accidentally came to this place while visiting Portland. There's no sign, there's nothing really to point you to head on in...those always seems to be the best places though :)  All there was to indicate that there was a food source there was a sandwich board reading "mimosas and eggs benedict".  Don't have to tell me twice!!!

My mimosa was great.  Not too heavy on the champagne, not too cheap with it either.  Great coffee.  OMG though, best hollandaise sauce ever in life.  The ham on my eggs benedict was fantastic.  My fella had an omelette off the specials menu and it was great as well.  He says to tell you it was the one with the mortadella :)

It is fortunate that I don't live in Portland because I'd want to eat here every day of my life.  I still WANT to eat here daily, I just can't in practical terms which is probably good for my figure LOL!!!

I was visiting my friends in Portland last weekend and we all went out for an obligatory Sunday brunch. Although was had to wait 20 minutes for a table, we were seated outside on picnic tables and given coffee to soothe our hungover and empty bellies. I ordered the classic_ eggs, toast, grits, my favorite breakfast. The grits were perfect and cheesy, and eggs were perfect and runny, and the toast was thick and not-too-buttery. They use local farm eggs, and no doubt the bread comes from a local bakery.
My mimosa was oozing with champagne and has a dash of grenadine on the bottom which I was not expecting!

This place is small and very busy. There was only one person taking care of the whole dining area.  Every table was full and there was a constant small line.  The french toast was excellent.  Really want to try the catfish hash.  May have to make a special trip back to give it a try.

Delicious!  The place has character.  I had the pepper bacon scramble, which was delicious.  The toast was out of sight.  The coffee was o.k., but not great.  My lady had the "Sunrise" eggs benedict with chipotle hollandaise sauce, which was also great.  We had to wait about 10 minutes, and when it was our turn the waitress hollered my name really loud through the window.  It was hilarious.  It's a bustling little place, and I like it.

I used to eat here all the time and enjoyed my meal always! I love going to Bridges on the weekends, reading the local newspapers, enjoying a mimosa or glass of OJ and devouring a plate of awesome food!

You typically have to expect to wait on the weekends; it's just how it is. I had a favorite waiter who we had almost every time and when we didn't have him, the service was always so so. I like the atmosphere a lot and found it to be one of my favorite breakfast places in town. If it didn't take me 40+ min to get there, I would be back frequently. It's been about a year so when I do make it back, I hope it's as good as it always was!!

I live just around the corner and I realized today that I don't go here often enough!  Every time I have it's been fantastic. The owner has always been there and she makes sure every patron is happy! Knowing this you would think they would have a line out the door every day, but it seems that they always have a table for me when I walk in.  It's a small space but good for groups of two to four, but there are a couple larger tables too.

I usually order from their regular menu because I especially love their classic Eggs Benedict, but their savory specials board items are great too, today it was truly delicious. I had the Spanish style Benedict, it was truly amazing! The onions, jalapenos and peppers were cooked perfectly with their house made Chirizo, poached eggs, Hollandaise Sauce, over two flour tortillas. I was very happy with my mildly spicy plate, but my friend ordered the Tamale waffles with pulled pork and sour cream. I'm thankful that she likes to share. :)

To the owner, It most definitely did not need any cheese on it! ;)

It was full, yet they still made me feel welcome.  I was very pleased with the waiter and waitress's warm friendly attitudes.  I almost felt like I was in someone elses kitchen casually about to enjoy a meal.

Not once did they make me feel rushed or feel an inconvenience due to the fact that I was 1 person dining during their busy time.

When I ordered the meal and asked for no cheese, they immediately offered to add something in its place which landed me with lucious avocado on top!  How nice :)

The food was SO DELICIOUS!!!  I had their fiesta poached eggs with salsa & potatoes.  With a tasty spicy corn muffin on the side.  YUM.  Polished it off with a good cup of Darjeeling and a few more pages in my book.  What a relaxing way to spend a rainy Oregon morning in Portland.

Thanks Bridges for making me feel welcome and cared for!  I will be back!

P.S.  They also had a self serve coffee for those who did have to wait for tables.  How thoughtful.

We waited for at least ten minutes outside while there was clearly vacant, bussed room for at least 6. Our orders came out quickly and our server was friendly enough, but the food was pretty bland. Then we had to wait forever (seriously, a rediculously long wait) to get our check. I doubt we'll be going back.

Super nice staff, very dog friendly picnic tables outside, and yummy food. I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict while my friend tried the Catfish Hash - think I will order the catfish next time. Perfect for Sunday brunch with our pooches. Plus, they kept the coffee flowing, which was greatly appreciated.

Okay, hadn't finalized the review and went back the next week. Had an absolutely divine huevos rancheros special over corn meal cakes. Hubby was less than impressed with his meal, but I will definitely return.

    This is a quick one.
Pretty busy, had to wait a bit at noon on Sunday. All they had was breakfast, I got the eggs benedict and potatoes.
Sparse potatoes, but well seasoned. The canadian bacon on the benedict reminded me of our 7th grade favorite Domino's Hawaiian Pizza. Iced mocha was alright. Service was saucy and prompt. They were cool with the work-related longevity of stay. All around, okey dokey artichokey.

"Never turn down bacon," she advised me as felt myself falling in love.

While this statement was qualified by a discussion about how if you don't make fried catfish yourself you should have someone else make it for you.

I ended up getting the catfish hash which was great.  Eggs on top perfect, catfish pieces well seasoned, and overall taste satisfying.  What turned this place into a 5 instead of a 4 was the potatoes that form the foundation of a good hash.  They were flavorful and cooked perfectly, not the soggy or dry pebbles that you get at some breakfast spots.

Bridges has really great food and a very comfortable atmosphere. When I lived in the NE I would eat here frequently, and anytime I had guests from out of town, we would always eat here at least once.
Bridges does it up right. They have a creative menu, beer, wine, champagne (great place for a little "hair of the dog"), and prompt service. The restaurant is small, so during peak breakfast times there can be a bit of a wait.
My favorites here are anything-benedict and the catfish hash. Mmmmm, hash! The grapefruit mimosa goes well with everything on the breakfast menu.

    Eh.

I remember eating at Bridges for the first time about a year ago, and really loving it.  So, I'm not sure what changed.

I got their tofu scramble- which came with potatoes and toast.  It was absolutely one of the most bland restaurant meals I've ever had.  I appreciate the fact that they offered a vegan item- but I probably would have just been happier eating toast and fruit.  They used almost no seasoning and everything on my plate was greasy.  My boyfriend ordered their version of a breakfast burrito and wasn't impressed either.

Three stars because the waitress was a doll.  The food barely deserved two.

Unfortunately though, won't be coming back the next time we're in Portland.

I used to live two blocks from this cutey cafe and went there a lot.  I thought it was on the 'meh' side back then, a few years ago.  I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was upon a return visit!

We had  Chinook book coupon, so right there I'm happy.  Few things make me happier than getting to use coupons.  It was completely packed when we showed up at ten, but we got our name on the list and were seated just ten minutes later.

Didn't even peruse the menu, because the specials board sealed the deal when I walked in:  huevos rancheros.  BossyMa had the French Toast.  Both were excellent- our server noted that they make the bread there for the sole purpose of french toast.  It was brioche-y tasting, super thick, simple, and totally delicious.  My heuvos rancheros was excellent, from the black beans it was nestled on to the salsa on top.

Mimosa was served in a big ole' wine glass with a pretty float of grenadine.  Coffee comes in assorted thrift store mugs.  The whole place has a bit of a DIY feel to it.  Our service was not super attentive, but very friendly.  Thumbs up.  Good food, good prices.

This cafe is tiny!! I thought it was great, since they served really good organic food minus the pretension and big price tag that usually goes along with it.

Their potatoes were some of the best I have had in a good long while. I had the "heirloom tomato scramble" that was made with a great combination of fresh seasonal ingredients. My sweetheart had the bacon/avocado omelette. She couldn't stop saying "everything here is so good", so I guess it got her vote of approval as well.

Fricking awesome. I don't know if Portland is full of great breakfast places or what, but I preferred this to the Screen Door (which came highly recommended and was also really good).

I have eaten at Bridges Cafe several times, always on the weekend when there is a line out the door and around the block.  Today, a Friday, I thought it'd be interesting to check it out and see what it's like not so busy.  Unfortunately, they are staffed for a not busy day, and were busy like it was a Saturday.

The food is good and consistent, which is a big plus.  My only problem with this visit was the slow service, not because of bad wait staff, but the fact that one person CANNOT wait properly on over a dozen tables by themselves.

"Meh" really sums it up for me.

Maybe I'm missing something but "one of the best breakfast places in town"?.....seriously? I would love to see the comps used in that decision.

At any rate, we ride by here quite frequently and have had it on our should-check-out-sometime list. A coupon in the Chinook book was the catalyst and in we went on a quiet Tuesday morning. The service is decent, coffee could be better and atmosphere had the charm of a Sunday morning hang-over. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with that, I'm just saying I would not bring my mom here for a charming brunch.

I ordered the eggs Benedict as I am somewhat of a connoisseur and previous reviews had me excited. It scored upper mid-range. Not the best though you can tell they put some thought into it. The ham was perfect: multiple thin-cut slices with slight browning....yum. The egg was the right amount of easy, the hollandaise a little bland though nothing that a bit of s&p couldn't fix. The muffin could have used a second round in the toaster. (As a frame of reference my top picks for a great Benedict are Petite Province, Everett St. Bistro and Genies). My husband had some sort of omelet that also scored high on the "meh" marks.

Overall this seems more of a default-by-proximity then a destination spot. We may be convinced to give it another shot for lunch but it is not on our breakfast radar.

This place doesn't look like it is child-friendly -- the high chairs and booster seats are hidden behind the scenes -- but within a minute of sitting down the server brought us a high chair, whisked the chair it replaced away, and brought us a large plastic bucket full of toys.

The caveat to this place is - either go during off-peak hours or count on a very leisurely pace.  The server was quick, efficient and friendly, but clearly overworked as the place began to fill up for the lunch hour crowd.  Similarly, I suspect the kitchen is short-staffed for peak hours.  However, the food is good and they have a decent selection of teas, chai (dragon fly brand, I think, 3 types), and espresso (which I haven't had).  If you need something quick, ask for a scone, pastry or similar item until the main order gets there.

I went here for breakfast last weekend because I was told there would be no wait. Apparently, word is getting around town that there is "no wait" here because last weekend business was booming and there was much waiting. This is a tiny tiny little cafe, though. So it really doesn't take much to fill up the tables.

Anyhoo, I ordered some Fiesta Eggs scramble thing. Pretty darn good. Though, it tasted more like Indian food than it did Mexican flavored. I still enjoyed it, I just think they should change the name to Bollywood Eggs or something. They also had the thickest slices of toast that I've ever seen! I loved the fat toast! They must have a special toaster for it, I couldn't help but wonder.

It is a small, nice and charming place for breakfast and brunch. But there are some ups and downs.

Great: the services, and the Mimosa is great.

Then comes the food, some is good and some are bad. The French toasts are big and nice.

Bad: The biscuits - I think I got the left over. Bacon - over cooked.

Good: French Toasts - big and sweet. Eggs - it is hard to mess up eggs. Gravy - creamy.

    Bridges weekend brunch rocks!

Ya gotta get there by 9-9:30 to avoid a wait though. It's pretty small and the tables fill up fast. It's an interesting space with super high ceilings, lots of windows facing MLK Blvd, and a few outdoor streetside tables. And of course, numerous pictures of the obligatory bridges.

They are vegan/vegetarian friendly and specialize in the egg dishes. I ordered their Eggs Fresca which is 2 poached eggs on top of their sauteed potatoes with plenty of melted cheddar, salsa fresca, and sour cream with chives. Divine! And there was a side of delish wheat toast with poppy seed crust they get from another bakery. I asked for a 2nd order of toast it was so good.

The coffee wasn't great - although they kept it full -- it tasted sort of burned. Which is inexcusable in a coffee city.

The service here can now and then be a bit "hipper than thou" and "surly" but that's just eating out in Portland. Get used to the hipsters, they own this town!

Any many reviewers have already mentioned, their Benedicts are great! Though the Catfish hash is unique and equally great. I go here way too often and every single time I am torn between ordering the Salmon Benedict and the Catfish hash, so I always make it a point to go here with a fellow Bridges Fan and order both dishes. The staff is friendly and they even split the plates with a half and half of the Benedict and Catfish hash!

    Oh! Heaven.

We were late getting started in the morning, and so our regular haunts all had a line.  We were driving up MLK when we spotted this place.  The atmosphere was ok, a bit hipster-ish but that's to be expected in that area.  The food was ok- I had the breakfast burrito, which was all right and the brioche toast that comes with the other breakfasts was pretty good.

What really stood out though was the lousy service- "Please seat yourself at any CLEAN table" was how we were greeted.  Well, there were two open slots, both dirty.  We picked the one we wanted anyway and that seemed to really twist the waitress' tail.  After cleaning the table and taking our order, she was pointedly ignoring us when coffee needed filling, and ignored my wife and son when they each tried to flag her down. My son was looking for syrup for his waffle, was our only request. He ended up going without.  We were finished a full 15 minutes before she slipped the check to us and quickly walked away.  Normally I'm an automatic 20% tipper, I've worked in service industries before and I get how rough it is. But they seriously need a change in wait staff- I left without tipping here.

After reading the other reviews I didn't even ask what the sausage was since I knew I was going for the bacon. Really enjoyed the french toast on Challah but we were disappointed that the bacon was dry and over cooked. The biscuits were very tasty but can't comment on the gravy since we had them hold it.

Small place but they open earlier than other breakfast options so if you are not hungover and want an early hearty breakfast then try this out. It wasn't crowded even when we were leaving at 9:30 am. Friendly staff and you can get your food pretty quick.

FYI - if florescent lights bother you, like they do me, they have about half the place lit with them.

Another in the cute breakfast places that Portland seems to have a ton of.  Some friends of mine have been here and I've been meaning to get over there.  Thought my dad might enjoy it and since it wasn't too far from his hotel we took the drive over.

We were there on a Thursday so the crowd wasn't very large.  The space isn't very large and I imagine a decent wait for a table on the weekends.  We took a seat at our table and the server came over to ask us if we wanted drinks.  I'm always weary about ordering "fresh" orange juice.  I was spoiled growing up as dad would squeeze orange juice every Sunday morning.  Have the time I order "fresh" it tastes like Tropicana which to me is god awful.  Nowadays I order the grapefruit juice because I like it and even if it isn't fresh, it still tastes pretty good.

The next decision was what to eat.  I'd been eating a lot of eggs while dad was here visiting, but said what the hell and ordered the prosciutto, artichoke and pecorino romano scramble.  Came with a side of potatoes and some amazing thick wheat bread with marionberry jelly.

The service was very friendly.  My dad wanted decaf coffee and she made a fresh pot for him no problem.  The food came out in a timely manner and the price is very reasonable.  There are certainly a ton of breakfast places to choose from in this town.  Portland definitely has the market on a damn good breakfast.  If you haven't heard of this one, it is another solid place.  Check it out.

I really liked this place. It was so mellow, laid back, the portions were generous and the food was great tasting.

They have some nice outdoor seating but the interior is also sunny and welcoming. The server was extremely nice, and hilariously clumsy.

The mimosas are very big, they come in a wine glass not a champagne flute. And they are $5 which seems like a good deal.

Just a very good neighborhood joint that I was glad to happen upon.

    Loved their salad!
If you like smoked salmon, please try their spinach salad with smoked salmon.
It is simple, but a lot of salmon on the salad!
    SO good!
