- Good for happy, entertained kids
- Great for meeting up with groups
- Beer, wine, mixed drinks
- Many dishes perfect for sharing

Be prepared to wait for a table during the busy season if you want to have dinner here. (Finding a seat during lunch or at the bar is never a problem.) It's not mind-blowing, but it has a comfortable, easy-going atmosphere and is within a 5 minute walk of the big hotels. There are various seating areas both indoor and out, family-friendly and suitable for adult groups or couples seeking a laid-back meal. All seating areas are LOUD, so it's not particularly intimate or appropriate for a sleepy little one. Additionally, the inside area is dimly lit and the outdoor area has a number of fun things to climb on that aren't meant for climbing. Since I usually come with friends for the purposes of eating, drinking and being loud, these are all things that don't bother me, but figured they're worth noting.

Their service guarantee is also worth mentioning, as they promise you will be 100% satisfied with their staff's performance. Several of the waitresses are incredibly sweet and have provided attentive, thoughtful service; This is especially appreciated when making a food selection as the menu is VERY extensive. They will adjust anything to your liking, which is great for picky eaters or those with allergies. My favorite thing to do is to split a bunch of appetizers and dessert. Having an appetizer to yourself followed by a main course is nearly impossible unless you are a competitive eater.

We went on a really quiet Sunday night to watch some Football. The place is great, lots of wonderful memorabilia all over the walls. We sat ourselves near the bar and ordered some drinks.

The service was ok. We DID get a free dessert from our waitress who realized it was our Anniversary which was awesome.

I'm really only giving it three stars because I think the food could have been a lot better. It's standard fair. Nothing to get excited about. I would have been happier with a shorter, smaller menu of stuff they do really well instead of a giant menu where it's hard to know what might be good.

Anyway, great place to go if you're looking for a fun evening out.

Brick Alley is apparently a Rhode Island institution, and it certainly shows. It has the makings of a chain restaurant, with its "quirky" décor, salad bar and exceptionally diverse menu, but it's better because of its location and my impression was that the offerings on the menu are all really good.

We went on a Friday night recently and had to wait about 30 minutes before we could be seated (not all that bad). We just waited at the bar and had a drink and they have a nice offering of draught beers, which helps. Once we were seated, the menu does take a few hours to get through, but there is definitely something for everyone. You name it and they more than likely have it, or some derivative of it. I had pork chops, which came with a side and included the salad, soup and bread bar. My sister had the rack of lamb, which I think she is still talking about, so everything here is really good.

The salad, soup and bread bar is a little measly in my opinion, but maybe I expect too much. The offering of things to make salads with are generous, but there is only one kind of soup and they really only had one kind of bread, which in my opinion does not a soup/bread bar make, but that wasn't horrible enough to warrant a complaint since you're going to be on food overload here anyway.

The prices are reasonable, especially considering how generous the portions are, and that most items include the salad bar, so that's a good find for Newport. Service was very, very friendly and overall, this is a great place to have a meal if you're looking for a "something for everyone"-type place.

I was in town with friends for a work meeting, and a friend had recommended this place for dinner.  It was surprisingly good!

I ordered a burger, which was well-seasoned and very juicy!  I was pleasantly surprised.  We also had a couple of drinks with our dinner in the outside eating area.  A festive atmosphere.

The only down side was the crowd - but I can't blame everyone in Newport from wanting to eat here!

Stopped here last night with my friend Annette after wandering around Newport in the evening.  The restaurant was crowded and had a 45 min wait around 9, but we were able to get 2 seats at the bar immediately.
There is a good selection of beers on tap and in bottles.  I had a chimay rogue, which was darker than I usually go for but it was very tasty with the choc chip cookie pie we shared for dessert.  We also got calamari, and it was some of the best calamari I've ever had because Brick Alley actually seasons it!  A bit of black pepper in the batter made all the difference in the world.
The bartenders were quick and very friendly.  There were several single diners at the bar and the bartenders welcomed them.
Not a bad place to end the night!

I do love this place and look forward to dining here with the family year after year during our time share week in Newport.

A big, noisy, family friendly place that takes reservations for parties of 6 or more, Brick Alley has a nice varied menu that runs the gamut from fresh seafood prepared simply to dishes like a fiery seafood pasta, and seasoned boneless pork chops, and back again to cheeseburgers.

Service is friendly, fast and attentive. There is a salad, soup and bread bar included with the entrees, and I look forward to this feature each visit. The Southwest Black Bean and Chicken soup was spicy and delicious. My dad always orders the Albondigas Soup - Tuesday or Thursday only - and always enjoys it. I have had the spicy seafood pasta - excellent, and the Mac & Cheese with Linguica - also excellent. In fact, everyone I know who has eaten here either likes it or loves it. There are always left overs which are battled for at subsequent lunches - another good sign of the abundance and quality at Brick Alley.

There's a lot for kids to choose from and there's also kids place mats and crayons to keep them busy. In previous years an ice cream cup was included with kids' meals, but no longer... The deserts at Brick Alley are definitely made to be eaten by more than one person, but so good that you won't want to share.

Bottomless soda and lemonade are enthusiastically refilled by the wait staff without need for requests.

On our recent visit, they did pack 7 of us into a booth. That was not the most comfortable setup, although it would have been OK for 6. A table would have been better but they are definitely in to compacting the parties when they can.

I have not visited the back deck in some time, but used to enjoy sitting out in the evening in an Adirondack chair sipping mudslides and other blender drinks. A very pleasant place to pass the time in Newport.

Fun atmosphere...Great all you can salad bar and extensive menu...
Terrible service....My friend had a couple pieces of hard plastic chips in her food and swallowed a piece....the server told us they would only comp her meal...there was no manager on staff...we could have sued this place...it was rediculous how unattentive they were to my friend...pissed and disgusted...never again

Been here a few times in Newport when everything else was too crowded or we did not feel like walking anywhere else. Lunch was good, the nachos were huge as well as the desserts.

The menu is huge, anyone can find something that they will like.

Cute atmosphere, but again the food is just OK!

V-a-r-i-e-t-y!  This place has everything.  The menu is seemingly endless, and it seems like they can do much of it in a pretty solid way.  Nothing is outstanding, but it's decent.

A side note, this place is family-owned and has one unbelievable atmosphere.  It's fairly large and the restaurant is obsessed with keeping the bathrooms sparkling at all times.  "Flair/flare" is plentiful.  Really unique bar also.

Get here early for lunch or dinner, especially on weekends, because being in Newport, a line can build quickly.

enjoyed a solid lunch here this past weekend.  It was very crowded and a bit crazy, and there was a wait....which I don't mind for dinner, but not a big fan of waiting for lunch.  The decor is pretty funny.  There are all sorts of crazy things hanging everywhere...including a motorcycle over the salad bar.  what?

The menu is huge, and everyone in my group was very happy with their food....from burgers to seafood.

I don't know that I would necessarily make a return trip given all of the other dining options in Newport, but Brick Alley is definitely worth checking out.

Tourist Trap or not, I love this place. I go here whenever I am in Newport and will continue to go even when i become a local. The atmosphere and aesthetic is REALLY unique....like what TGI Friday's used to be before it was such a tacky chain, but better. During warm weather, you can east out back. Even if it is hot out, you should try it. You sit at picnic tables and drink out of plastic cups, but that's part of the appeal for me. Everyone is relaxed!

Servers are top notch!

The food is amazing. I just recently got their Buffalo Chicken Pizza and it was wonderful. However, you MUST order a chocolate milk shake when you go. Get it before your meal so you have room in your belly to enjoy it. I'm not sure what magic they stir in, but it tastes amazing.

This is my favorite restaurant in the world. Go here.

Brick Alley is definitely made to capitalize on the tourists running around Newport.

That said - and even though I WANT to badmouth that because I hate it in concept - I have to say I had a pretty tasty lunch there.  The atmosphere is cozy, somewhat personal and quiet, and the service was pretty good.

I had a bacon burger which I'll grant you is pretty easy to do, but this one was spectacular.  The steak fries were actually cooked correctly, and the beer was cold.  My buddy had stuffed shells which were also delish.

So again, while I want to support the places that have a harder time surviving, I can't think of anything negative to say about this experience.  Worth an off-season visit perhaps, because you can't get in the place in the summer.

I had an excellent dinner at Brick Alley Pub when I went to Newport for a winter long weekend.  The place has a wooden, pub kind of look with tons of crazy crap on the walls.  The service was great, even during a particularly crowded night.  We happened to go to Newport on the weekend of a kiddy hockey league tournament and they all apparently chose to dine at the Brick Alley Pub.  It's always fun navigating a crowded bar with a drink when little kids are running in droves.  The parents were nowhere near the crazed children, however, I was happy to see some of the staff trying to get the situation under control.

Anyways, the food was awesome.  The menu had a good variety of choices, however we both decided on the sushi grade Ahi Tuna, rare.  This had to be the best ahi tuna I've ever had, including the Wasabi which was way hotter than most wasabi I've had.  The dinners come with a large choice sides and a salad which makes this one of the best deals in Newport.  I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Brick Alley Pub for my next visit.

I don't know how to catagorize the menu.  It is part American, part "bar fare", part seafood, and it also has a portuguese slant--some chorizo, kale, etc., as ingredients.  The scallop dish is expensive but not if you're a scallop freak like me.  It's to die for--succulence on a plate!

Well, it costs a couple of bucks to eat here.  The food is pretty good though. It isn't a quiet place.  If you want to go out and have a quiet night, this aint the place.  I'd put it above average.

Wow...this place is huge!

They have two floors too?!!!!  Holy cow, they can accommodate like a ga-jillion ppl!

It's a well run restaurant/ bar on the main road. Lots of ppl go here!

The food is generous and they give you plenty.  We were stuff for hours after our brunch!

It's basically you're bar/ diner food that you see - fried calamarie, clam chowder, meatloaf, hamburgers, sandwiches, pasta dishes, etc.
There's something for everyone....even the kitchen sink :0)

It's a good place and when you don't know what you want to have...just go here..they have everything.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Overall...ya, its a good place to grab some grub.
Service: pleasant
Decor: Dark!  Memoribilias and pictures hanging all over.  Very...um...decorative!

Brick Alley is my favorite place to dine when I'm back in Newport.  I have a lot of memories there, which could be part of it, but I love everything about it.  The atmosphere, the huge menu, the salad bar.  It's such a fun place!

I had my rehearsal dinner here the night before my wedding, and they were super accomodating to our large party.  Plus they have a function room upstairs now, so they can pretty easily book large groups.

Last time I was there, I got some sort of pasta in a cayenne cream sauce and it was outstanding.  It was like really hot buffalo wings in pasta form, which certainly made me happy, since as a vegetarian I really miss the flavor of buffalo sauce!  That dish made great use of those flavors.  And they have amazing freshly brewed and unsweetened iced tea, in addition to a great drink menu.

Heart Brick Alley.

I have been going here since before there was an America's Cup Ave., that's 3 different owners I believe. The current owners have put in place the best food and drink menus this restaurant has ever had. It has location going for it. It is the ultimate Tourist Trap but they provide a decent experience.  They offer quality comfort pub food and have a few more upscale choices. The wait times for seating can be long but then again if this place has a long wait chances are every other decent place with in a half mile will have a long wait. If you have more than 5 people in your party make a reservation.

* best time to go is for a late lunch.
* Italian or Portuguese Clams('necks) in broth.
* Habanero Wings are insanely hot, but I love them.
* Dark and Stormy (really any rum drink here)
* respectable Reuben, Hamburger
* excellent salad bar

Brick Alley pub is in the heart of the Newport dinning/ shopping downtown area on Thames Street.  They have a large amount of old fashion license plates/ sports New England sports memorabilia etc.  Mostly a tourist dining area and is packed during the summer season.  Make sure you call ahead for a reservation during the tourist season.

A great place to come if you are hungry.  Large servings and great American food.  Also a good place to have a large group gathering.  The top floor can be reserved for large events.

Great decorating in the ladies bathroom. The photography will definitely catch you're eye.  :-)  Thanks for giving the ladies something worth looking at!

The aptly-named Brick Alley Pub (it abuts a brick-walled alley off of Thames St.) is a decent enough place in downtown Newport to get lunch.  Also, there's a friggin' fire truck on the roof.

We walked in on a busy summer weekend afternoon and asked for the outdoor seating in the back.  This place is huge; the walk all the way back there took a while!  The seating out back was nice: shaded by the building to which the entire rear of the first floor was open to had a plank floor and wooden picnic tables with umbrellas.  They had all sorts of christmas lights up so it must have been awesome at night.

Our server was just attentive enough without pushing anything.  I remember getting some great, Newport-brewed beer and Mandah getting a pretty good mixed drink too.  The rest of the details are a little fuzzy, but I remember being perfectly satisfied with my meal... it might have been a pizza or a sandwich.  It wasn't spectacular, but then, I wasn't expecting anything like that anyway.

Lastly, at the time we went, they had these portobello mushroom fries which were pretty good and an interesting way to cook them.  However, for some reason, they gave me atomic burps for almost 6 hours after eating them; it really annoyed Mandah on the car ride back to Boston.  A mixed blessing, I suppose.

Not sure what all the hype was about.  I thought it was crazy busy, thus good.  The food was pretty good, nothing amazing.  The lobster bisque was probably the best thing on the menu.

Big Tourist Trap!!!

I didn't want to go.  Read all the warnings about it being a tourist trap but my friends wanted to see for themselves.  The best thing that came out of that meal was that I had the satisfaction of saying "I told you so."

The place is nice.  Typical American bar/eatery style with eclectic wall decorations.  The menu is extensive, which usually is a warning that by pleasing everyone, nothing is spectacular.  That's what it turned out to be.  A glorified diner that also has seafood items.

Had the clam chowder.  It was so gummy, you could use it as spackle.  I was told that that's the way it's suppose to be. (sounds like a lame excuse to me)  Had the stuffed sole with lobster sauce.  Talk about bad.  You got one piece of soul half the size of a twinkie.  Not much stuffing since the piece of soul was so small.  It that wasn't bad enough the "lobster sauce" was their lobster bisque.  My friend had the lobster bisque.  It looked and tasted identical.  That's lame, especially for what I paid for it.  Ouch.  The only redeeming quality of that place was their staff.  Very attentive and friendly.

Lame place.  Stay away.  Don't say you haven't been warned.

I have come to this eatery several times while venturing out to Newport to get my fill of quaint shops and seaside enchantment.

This place has by far the best white clam chowder I have ever had.  Seriously they should can this stuff it's sooooo good.  It's thick and creamy with a generous amount of clams.  You even get more salt pork bits than you would in most chowders.  It's practically a meal in itself.  Everything is really good here and for being in Newport, the prices aren't bad either.  I usually like to get the lobster roll because in Vegas that is virtually impossible to find.  Essentially they take fresh lobster meat, chop it up, add mayo, celery, and onion and load it into a hot dog bun.  (Note: the hot dog bun is New England Style).   You really can't go wrong with lobster.  The service is great too!  The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 is because it is a bit loud for my taste.

Very crowded in the summer and not a lot of space to wait. Small horseshoe bar downstairs in a tough spot to even stand around, on one side you are plastered against the wall and on the other side you are basically in the middle of a major walkway for the waitresses and where everyone is going to the salad bar. There is another bar upstairs in a small area with only 6-8 bar stools and some high top tables. Has been a staple of Newport for years, why I am not sure, location maybe? Food is passable, for such a large menu I still have a hard time deciding on what I want. Not because there are so many items that intrigue me or sound great, just the opposite, beyond the standard pizza or burger nothing jumps out. I would rather see fewer items on the menu with more of a focus on a particular theme. There is nothing here that you can not get anywhere else in Newport. Do not go here thinking you are in for fabulous seafood, there are many restaurants in Newport much better than this, the menu does not even emphasize seafood. Very loud restaurant with a lot of large parties in the summer, romantic it is not. I prefer to go here in the winter months when it is not as crowded. Even then on Friday or Saturday nights there is still a wait. Decent food for late night Newport where there are not a lot of options.

the Machaca Beef Nachos are amaaazing! although it's listed as an appetizer, i ordered it as an entree cuz it's big enough to feed a family of 4 and i'm a fatty :) one of my friends ordered the Filet of Sole with Lobster Sauce and wasn't that impressed, but overall our group was satisfied.

moral of the story: stick to drinks and appetizers and you will be happy :)

This is a decent place with traditional american fare.  Nachos, burgers, etc.  But they do do that shit fairly well.  The service is usually pretty good as well.  They also have a pretty good salad/soup bar.

However, be warned if you go during tourist season (May-September) this place will be packed.  This is because this place is located in the heart of the tourist section of Thames St. and gets flooded easily.  Anyway, Brick Alley is definitely not worth a half-hour wait.   So, just keep that in mind.

We came here on a sunny Saturday, and had no problem getting seated for lunch (there may be outside seating, but I think that it was full). The decor is retro diner-type, with an old truck in the middle of the dining room. We ordered the crab cakes, a chicken salad (can't remember which one), and some local Newport beers. The beers were interesting - one had a hint of blueberry, while the other was your normal sort of amber ale.

As for the food, I liked the crab cakes, although they were pretty rich (and added a few points to my cholesterol). Even though they are on the appetizer list, you could eat them for lunch or dinner and be pretty full. The salad was good as well, although the crab cakes were better.

The meal was slightly pricey - somewhere around $40 for two people for lunch. Even if we skipped the beers, it would still have come to about $30 for one entree and one appetizer. I guess that downtown Newport isn't going to be a bargain, but this place wasn't bad for the money.

We had dinner here after a day in Newport - I kinda wanted to check out a more seafood-y place, but that's not really his thing, so here we went. The salad bar was good - lots of choices and fresh. Dinner itself was fair. He got the prime rib which was really good. I got the lobster ravioli. Now, as one might expect, you only get 6 ravioli. I got some huge chunks of lobster which were great, but the sauce had cayenne pepper in it, which took away from my whole enjoyment a little. We didn't get dessert, but saw some people ordering and they looked huge.

I thought it was a fun place to go.  The service was really nice and I thought the prices were good.  The food was above average.  The atmosphere was fun and lively.  The wait was really long, but we waited upstairs at the bar and there was a waitress making sure we wouldn't go thirsty and there was one of those little video game machine things with trivia, hangman, etc. on it to keep us occupied.

Tourist trap?  Perhaps.  Good drinks?  Yes.  Good food? Some things.  It's good enough for me.  Habenero wings are mad hot, but you get that massive endorphin rush when the burn finally levels off.  some food items are a bit much.....calamari - is that like 3 lbs you get?  Some of the sandwiches are way too big.  Anyway, bring your appetite.

A good bar/pub in the heart of Newport's party street - Thames. A bit touristy, to no fault of their own.  A great St. Patrick's Day party starting early Saturday through the 17th.  Needs more bathroom space and one lav smelled like the kind bud.  I'll surely be back.

The Hub and I went to Newport for a long weekend and to attend the Chowder Festival.  We arrived from Chicago shortly after the Friday lunch hour timeframe, and we were kinda hungry.  The manager of the B&B that we were staying at recommended the Brick Alley Pub.  I'm not really sure why when there are so many other places to go, but I'm thinking it's for the variety.

We started walking to the Brick Alley Pub, but decided to continue walking downtown Newport.  We stopped at several places, and we asked several natives of Newport where to eat.  All of them recommended the Brick Alley Pub.   We ended up at the Brick Alley and I have to say that  I think there's a local conspiracy going on in Newport because the Brick Alley Pub wasn't all that.  But I have to give this joint props because we got there before the crowds started to pour in.

When we walked in, we were greeted and sat at a table for two just opposite of the entrance.  The place looked kinda small, but there was another room on the other side of the entrance wall.   Our server was Jeanette (shout out to Jeanette!!  She was awesome!!) and service was splendid.  I wish I could say the same thing about the food.  What my Hub and I found disappointing was the limited seafood on the menu.  We were on the East Coast expecting seafood to come out of our ears, and instead we get salads, burgers, and wraps.  While I can see how other people might find their variety and selection unique and abundant, I don't understand how they can rate the food as 5 stars.  As others had reviewed, this place is average Americana (interesting categorization but it fits) and I mean average.

We started with some oysters.  While they are supposedly fresher than what you can find in the Midwest, it didn't convince us that they were any better.  We also had the calamari and the crab cakes.  The calamari started off with a bang...the deep fried rings were tossed with jardineire peppers, and it was surprisingly tasty.  However, I don't know what they fry their foods in, but I quickly got over the calamari.  The crab cakes were just ok...they lacked a little flavor and they were kinda mushy.  I prefer my cakes to be a little drier.  But it was decent...nothing overpowered the taste of the crab, so it wasn't all bad.  The Hub ordered the Ahi Salad and I ordered the lettuce wraps, which was recommended to me.  Both were on the blah side.  My lettuce wraps came with a thai chicken saute mix and it was paired with a couple of sauces.  The chicken was so dry it made me choke.  Our server caught on really quick that I wasn't too pleased, so she brought it back to the kitchen and they remade it.   While it was better, it was still just ok.  While we were waiting for each course, I took a look around the restaurant and noticed they had an average looking salad bar.  Just something to think about if you can't find something that catches your eye.

The experience we had thus far prevented us from entertaining dessert, which we always do, but we did order a couple of lattes, which were decent.  They comped those AND my dish, but for some reason, our bill was still over $50.  So yeah, kinda pricey for lunch.

However, the Brick Alley Pub seems to be a favorite amongst the natives because there seems to be no end to the customer line.  I guess we got there just before the supper hour?  About 15 minutes after we were seated, a line started to form out the door.  Several couples, a few parties of 4 and 2 large parties strolled in, and eventually the place was full.  It wasn't empty when we got there...there were a few tables open.  But by the time we left, every table was taken and there was a wait...at 5:00 p.m.!!  Interesting.  I have to agree that the Brick Alley Pub is an established restaurant venue.   But I wouldn't rate it 5 stars...it does earn an average 3 stars from Chicago!!

Great service! Great food! They have awesome lettuce wraps. I was with a group of about 10 people who all enjoyed their food. We even sampled a few appetizers which were unique and awesome. The have an extensive menu and a great beer list. It's right on Thames street which is perfect because its right downtown. It has the same type of flare as TGI Fridays, but it wasn't hoakey. It was actually adorable, fitting and amusing.
