When I'm feeling nostalgic, I always come hang out at brentwood. I didn't go to school here, but my parents used to take me to the kiddie pool, the one with the tall blue fountain. I've heard horror stories of being dragged out screaming and crying.
I also used to swim in the main pool with my boyfriend a few years ago. During the scorching hot texas summer, it's nice to have a FREE place to cool off here during the day.
I am sad that most of the picnic tables are gone..but they were pretty heavily vandalized so I can't knock off a star for that. This is a great place for kids, dogs, and adults to enjoy the great outdoors! -

Man, Brentwood Park is great! Since moving a couple blocks away from it, I've used this park for: running alone, working out with a group, kickball practice, lounging about, and walking the dog. And if I was into basketball, tennis, soccer, sand volleyball, or flying kites, I know exactly where I'd go.
My favorite thing about the Park, though, is that any time of day or night, folks are out with their happy dogs!Listed in: Austin haunts

A nice little neighborhood pool with a good sized park around it. There's a couple of tennis courts, a softball field, a playscape, and a workout area for adults. The pool is nothing fancy, and could sure use some more deck area and chairs, but in this heat, it's all about getting in the water anyway. Plus you can't beat the price (free).
I've never seen it too ridiculously crowded, and the lifeguards seem to stay on top of things. -

This is one of my favorite parks in Austin for a couple of reasons. Number one, it's close to my house and I'm pretty much like an 80 year old when it comes to how far I'll drive to go do something. Secondly, the playscape is in a shaded area. It's amazing how few playgrounds take the Texas heat into consideration before building. What kid wants to go down a hundred degree slide or burn their hands on a rail? There are bigger kid swings and little kid swings, a sand box, sand volleyball court, basketball court, baseball field with bleachers, two tennis courts (these are perfect for little guys learning to ride a bike or a walker when they aren't in use) and a large treeless field that's suitable for kite flying. It's always fairly clean and local police are good at busting people who let their dogs run around without a leash. It's frequented by area parents who generally walk or ride their bikes.
The attached pool is very small (but free of charge) and can get really crowded in the summer. They have a circular baby pool with a tower that sprinkles water and shaded deck next to it. My biggest problem is the influx of unsupervised older kids who come without parents. Obviously, they are not conscious of smaller ones and have a tendency to jump too near them or barrel over slower moving children. Still, the vibe here is very good. It is laid back and relaxed with very little pretense. Although Ramsey (in Rosedale Park) is a nicer, bigger pool, I feel more comfortable here: people seem friendlier and more open at Brentwood than at Ramsey.
