My wife and I reside in Discovery Bay, and when we needed so much as a gasket or light bulb, Ace was the place to go, because it's the closest hardward store to us.
I became sick and tired however of them shoving their "Reward Card" down my throat everytime I walked into their store and having to listen to a dissertation as to why I need it; it's as though the employees get some kind of commission or bonus everytime they sign someone up for it!
My philosphy is quite simple: Stop insulting my intelligence and just lower your prices!
I got fed-up with this probably close to 2 years ago, and I now give ALL of my business to Lowe's. Yes...I now have to drive probably an extra 15 minutes out of my way to shop at Lowe's...even if I need a nut or a bolt, but at least I'm not being hasseled everytime I need to make a purchase! -

This is a pretty cool local hardware store, they have tons of stuff, and even an entire section dedicated to work clothing. It reminds me of a miniature Home Depot, except the employees are friendlier & more helpful! The prices are also reasonable here too, no highway robbery that I noticed!
One funny thing, is when you're in the back garden/hose section, there's a speaker that seriously sounds like it's farting when a song comes on with bass...I couldn't stop laughing the entire time!! -

I go here when I'm rushed and don't want to deal with all the lights on Lone Tree to go to Home Depot or Lowes. I usually regret it unless I know for a fact exactly what I need and that they have it.
For instance, The PVC valve that feeds the sprinkler servos from my water main broke. This is an easy fix and needs to be done every 4-5 years from my experience (I've done mine and 2 neighbors in the last 2 years).
I went to get the ball valve and the unions for the PVC pipe and they only had TWO samples of each of the three ball valves on display in the bin. Yes, 6 ball valves total, and they were all the wrong types. They were either very small, or threaded and not a slip fit connection.
After about 5 minutes of looking around I flagged down an old man that obviously couldn't be bothered to help, and he simply said "If it's not in the bin we don't have it."
I ended up going to Home Depot and they had HUNDREDS of valves in stock, including the standard one used for the sprkinkler feed line and the pricing was better as well.
Other times I've gone I've never been impressed by the girls that run the cashier islands. They are not friendly in the slightest and are borderline useless. Maybe if they spent more time working and less chatting and doing their nails they wouldn't be so bored in their job.
Like I said, if you know for a fact that they have what you need, you don't need to talk to anyone for advice and you don't mind paying more... go to Ace. Otherwise I've found Home Depot and Lowes are a better choice to make sure you get the right items and can ask for advice if needed. -

Don't plan on getting a fast return on items that have the ACE logo and with a SATISFACTION GUARANTEE as well. Wow. JUST got back from having 5 items(same) go bad on me and want a quick return. Checker calls one manager who asks the same questions with sarcasm and being very demeaning. She calls the head of the department where the items are found, and he asks the same questions and is demeaning. I use the stuff all the time, so when it goes bad I know it's bad. Manager tried to show me and convince me that after 10 minutes of manipulating the item, that somehow I should have never come to get a return in the first place. Finally replaced the items. BUYER BEWARE. Items are SOMEWHAT "satisfaction guaranteed".
I actually may just take my business back to Lowes. I liked the small business feel here until they had to reach in their pocket and give a return. That may have just wrecked their reputation with me. -

Back to Ace for some work on door locks, which is part of the rental center at this location. This was my first interaction with this part of the store. I gotta say, they are really cool there. Super nice and willing to help is what I first learned. They guy worked on my lock right till the doors were closed. They ended up finishing all of my work the next morning and at reasonable prices. Changing 3 locks to a different style key @ $7.50 each...not bad.
While I was waiting, I noticed they have a really large selection of key blanks as well as fancy logo keys (sports, cartoons, etc). They also can work with "chip" keys for those newer secure car keys.
I use to cut keys at one of my old jobs. I have to say I'm impressed with the operation they've got going here.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I had to replace the pump in my fountain. I had a small swimming pool pump that I wanted to retrofit to this fountain. As soon as I walked into the store I was greeted by a very nice employee who was very knowledgeable with plumbing. He helped me pick out exactly what I needed for the conversion. Long story short, fountain now works great. If you need experienced staff this is the place to go

Tool Rental department service is great. At the store, some clerks are knowledgeable, some are not. Prices are slightly higher than of Home Depot.

I've been here numerous times for various things since moving to Brentwood.
The selection is very broad, things are much easier to find that at Lowe's or Home Depot and the staff is very helpful. Prices aren't all that cheap, but I prefer supporting a local business than a big chain store whenever possible. -

Always have had excellent customer service at this location! Most recent visit proved this more than ever . . . Had keys custom cut from a bent key. Casey, whom was working the rental counter, refused to quit. After multiple attempts, he found a means to recreate the bent key. His attitude, and the attitude of the rest of the staff, is the reason I continue to visit Ace Hardware over other area hardware stores.

Great small town hardware store! It is rare that I go into this store and am not able to find what I need........and if I can't find it, only of the friendly employees will be right there to assist in any way they can. Oh yeah, did I mention they have fresh popped pop corn on most days.

Shopped and rented here for years, Amazingly, they always seem to have what I need....in a store a fraction of the size of H.D. or Lowes. I don't think I've ever spent more than 30seconds looking for something without someone helping me. Everyone there seems to know every item in the store. And they have some fun seasonal stuff for some impulse buys! But y'all know that, so save some time and go here first (and last)

DH brought our locks in to get rekeys. An hour later they were ready for pick up. The guy working was very nice and didn't mind having a 3 year old looking around at all the cool rental tools. $30 to rekey 3 or 4 locks when a locksmith would charge $30 each lock.

Fantastic. I went in the other day (trip number 500 to a hardware store in the last few weeks) and was amazed at the service. I was helped by someone in the lawn section and she was so helpful. I was in need of lawn care stuff and she not only steered me in the right direction but went over all the options. Now we'll just wait and see if the advice was correct. After I was done there, I wondered around just looking and was asked about 5 times if I needed help. I'll say it again: Fantastic!

I have been to a lot of the big chain hardware stores and every time I go to Ace in Brentwood, I wish I never had. The people are friendly and knowledgeable. They even have a repair shop for your machines. Just had my mower fixed and they where very reasonable.

The staff are so helpful and creative. They think outside the box to find something that can help you with whatever you need. I'd been given a gift of a large and heavy wind chime and I wanted a free-standing stand from which to hang it in my patio. Lova found a tall, four-legged black wrought iron stand for hanging plants, and she also found a black iron hook and some black chain from which to hang the chimes inside the stand. Voila--together we created an attractive, sturdy solution which makes for a unique garden patio ornament and wind chime. Thank you Lova and staff of the Brentwood Ace Hardware!!

This is a great store with friendly and fast help! Ace has a reputation that is upheld by this store. I recommend this store to people how have little or no experience with fixing things and small job, They have a staff of experienced people that are very knowledgeable and willing to help. GOOD STORE!

I feel the same as Mario. The big chain stores have people who don't care to be at the store. The people at Ace Brentwood are knowledgeable and can pretty much tell you where any item in the store is located without hesitation. I took my mower there for repair and they looked at it and gave me an honest estimate on what needed to be fixed and told me I probably needed a new one even though they don't sell mowers, at least not in winter.
