I called Brents Tree Service upon seeing a neighbor getting his trees done. The esimator came out and gave me a quote, which I felt was pretty high from the start. I had a number in mind and talked to him about what we can do to get closer to my idea of the price. He gave me a discount, which was closer, but not quite in the range yet, so I told him I'll have to think about it and get back to him.
The next day he called and wanted to see what it would take to get my business. I told him the biggest sticking point was the price and that was my main concern. He came down even more to get me to commit, and it was close enough, so I did.
As for the work, they did a great job cleaning up the trees and really shaping them to add curb appeal. There was no mess left over and they were professional, prompt, and seemed very knowledgeable. I'd definitely consider them again, but know that you should probably have a price in mind to start with. -

DO NOT USE BRENT'S
I used Brent's because of a groupon. I will never make that mistake again. I agree with others that the salesman was high pressure and outrageous. I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman.
Due to a plumbing issue, I needed to remove a tree and decided to get trees trimmed at the same time.
The first trip they cut down the tree and trimmed 2 trees in the back yard. When they came back to remove the stump, they left the remains. I called and they told me that most people want the chips to use as mulch. I did not and was not asked. I let them know that it was not just mulch but large pieces of wood that could be used in a fireplace.
I complained about the poor job on the tres trimmed in the back. there was a large limb that was resting on my neighbors roof. They came out again.
I called back when I noticed limbs hanging straight towards the ground, dead branches, and a limb resting on my roof.
The owner came out and agreed that this was not quality work.So the trimmers came again. today, the dead limbs remain and the tree is still not properly trimmed.
I told the owner I wanted to renegotiate the bill, since I will need to have another company trim the 2 trees. he told they could come out again. I responded that his workers do not know what they are doing and I do not want them touching my trees. his response...."I need your credit card number."
I am filing with the BBB!!!!!!! -

This review is about their quote process. I never engaged their services, since the quote process was a horrible experience. The only reason I give them two stars is because the estimator showed up on time.
The guy gave me an outrageous price ... and just like other reviews here indicated, the guy immediately began pressuring me into accepting the quote and scheduling the service. Then he started to berate the competition telling me that their service was one of very few services in town that employed licensed arborists. Hearing that, and being perturbed by the guys arrogance, I asked him if he personally was a licensed arborist. He didn't want to answer ... but, finally said that he was not. So, uh huh, the guy coming to look at my trees and give me the quote is not a licensed arborist. So, who is? Then, I ask him if the crew that would be doing the trimming are licensed arborists. He didn't like that question either and tried doing the backstroke. He finally admitted that they were not, but hinted to the fact that they "may" be supervised by the owner, who apparently is a licensed arborist. So, the owner is going to come supervise the work? Uh huh, I believe that like I believe I'm going to be the winner of next weeks lottery!
Then he tries discounting the price to get my service. By that time. I had enough. Ugh! Slimy. If you want a good experience, call either Joe's Tree Care or Austin Tree Service. -

This is my experience from going through an estimate to remove a large (60') tree. I had something come up at work and wasn't able to make the appointment but my wife was able to meet with them. I called Darryl, whom I had the appt, to tell him my wife would be there. By the tone of his voice on the phone, I could tell he was not happy I wouldn't be there.
When he did arrive, the first thing he told my wife was, "I thought I was going to meet with the decision maker. Are you the decision maker?" After giving an estimate he put pressure on my wife to commit right then to the work to be done. The estimate was over $2100 and, while fairly priced, my wife was not going to give the approval to spend the money. So Darryl called me while he was there and tried the same thing. He gave me the line, that others had also written about, that they had a whole crew who needed work and that the price was discounted because of that but they needed to come the next day. He kept huffing and puffing that I wouldn't commit to his high pressure sales pitch.
After the experience, I wanted to call Brent's and tell them what an unpleasant experience it was having the guy come out but after reading how similar others experiences were on Yelp, I imagine the company is not only aware of it, but likely promotes it.
On the suggestion of Yelp reviewers, I called Joe's Tree Care. Joe was a very nice guy who did the work quickly and efficiently. He also charged almost $600 less than Brent's. -

I, like many of you, bought the deal of $75 for $225 worth of work. When i called them out, i was told that they start at $300, so it really wasn't a deal. I needed them to cut my neighbor's tree that is hanging over onto my side. I told them that i don't want to upset my neighbor, who would not be upset, but i just don't want them to make it look bad. The manager told me that those are just "trash trees" anyway and went on and on. Btw, my neighbor is outside the entire time. I was so appalled at that and never used the deal, they didn't work on the trees. I'm sure that they do fine work, but when i call a professional to do a job, i hope for even a modest amount of professionalism.

Lesson learned...read yelp first...The same slimy guy, Darryl, came to my house like a used car salesman (no offensive to those folks) with the same song and dance everyone else said. He was trying to pressure me to "lock in" the deal now, so he can get a crew. He told me he and "Brent" have been "best friends" and in the tree business for over 23 years. Well, I later find out Brent is the owner's last name and no they didn't even know each other 15 years ago. I will pay MORE to not go with the grease ball. Do NOT waste your time. The guy was late to the appointment, then called to tell me he was going to be late (he was already 10 minutes late) and called me the wrong name. As soon as I indicated i was not going to be signing anything today he pretty much left in a huff.

Let me start off by saying that I did not actually get my trees trimmed here because of their inflated prices (even with a Groupon!) and high pressure sales tactics and after reading other people's similar experiences with this company, I went with Joe's Tree Care and got more done for almost half the price. Go with Joe's!
The rest of the story....I bought a Groupon and when Darryl came out for an estimate, he gave me the same pushy, super high pressure sales tactics other people have mentioned with "special offers" that wouldn't be offered unless I acted immediately. I don't appreciate that. I feel if are confident you have the best service at a good price, you don't need to pressure people into immediate decisions.
My hesitation was also with the price. He was quoting me $1,075 to fully trim ONE big oak tree but when I balked, he said he'd throw a light trim on my tree in the front yard in for free and take the $75 I'd paid to Groupon off if I made the decision right then. I asked for quotes on removing 2 other trees and he said $450 without stump grinding and an extra $175 to grind the stumps.
The price and high pressure sale made me uncomfortable so I looked on Yelp and saw lots of reviews (especially the filtered ones) talking about the same issues with people who had those coupons. After reading one review that mentioned Joe's Tree Care and seeing their near perfect ratings on Yelp, I called them. He came out within 45 minutes to give me an estimate, no pressure, and came the next morning with a crew of 3 guys and spent 8 HOURS here. He even ground 2 stumps from trees I'd had removed in the past for free!
So....in the end, Brent's wanted $1,750 to do less than Joe's Tree Care did for $920. VERY happy I saw the other Yelp reviews and didn't give in to the snake oil salesman sales pitch! -

Before today, I would have given Brent's Tree Service 4 stars. Yes, they're a little pushy in ways that I didn't appreciate but the work was good and the pricing wasn't too bad. After today, I will be looking for another vendor to work on my trees.
I've used Brent's 3 times in the past 2 years to cut and shape our trees and to remove a cedar tree in the backyard that was leaning at a 45 degree angle and making our oak tree grow toward's our neighbor's place.
Earlier this year, I saw a groupon for Brent's and knowing that we would need our trees trimmed again soon, purchased it. When I called to redeem it today and the gentleman was discussing his quote over the phone - I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Let me explain. Cost to trim my trees:
Early 2009 when they looked like yetis because my husband had never trimmed them: $600
Late 2009: $600
(we had another vendor do them in 2010 on a neighbor's recommendation)
Earlier this year: $650 to trim our four huge oak trees and remove said leaning cedar completely (this was at LEAST a 12 foot tree - nearly 15 years old!)
When I called today to have them trim back just our front two trees? $650. Excuse me? This is of course after I mentioned I'd bought the groupon, and Darrell made me feel like my trees were ginormous and I was a cheapskate for expecting a smaller price. I was honestly expecting something more like $350 since it's half the work they've ever done for me before and that was at $600! I've emailed groupon and asked for my money back and cancelled my service with Brent's and will be looking for another vendor. -

If you read my initial review you'll note that I made an appointment which Brent's was unaware of the very next morning. Anyway, later that afternoon I received a call from another Brent's employee who was upset that I had missed the appointment I had attempted to reschedule. I tried to explain that I had called in that morning and that there was no record of our appointment, thus I was unable to reschedule. The employee on the phone could not possibly comprehend this series of events and made it clear that he didn't believe me at all. (This miscommunication between these two employees was frustrating later on as well.)
He ended up quoting me over the phone and, as stated in other reviews, immediately began pressuring me to accept his quote. I tried to explain that I don't like to make big purchases in a matter of minutes, that I prefer to think on my own before accepting. He was unrelenting and even dropped the price without my request. In the end I accepted the reduced offer.
Trying to pay was also aggravating. I missed the first phone call, but the voicemail asked that I call back to pay over the phone. When I returned the call the the rude pressuring guy picked up and, again, couldn't understand why I was calling him, even after I tried to explain, again, what had happened.
He ended up calling me back the next day to pay. Of course an argument ensued when I tried to use their GroupOn; apparently Brent's seems to have their own "rules" for GroupOn purchases, which are not listed anywhere. He ended up raising the price before applying the GroupOn; I was done arguing.
Frankly Brent's is disorganized and rude. 2 stars because the work was done adequately. In this economy you should shop elsewhere.Listed in: My Home Buying/Owning…

We bought the Urban Delight deal too. It seemed like a great value since we normally pay other professional tree services about $350 -500 every other year to trim three large trees on our lot. Turns out the Urban Delight deal or other similar deals offered by Brent's Tree Service is somewhat of a smoke and mirrors marketing ploy. They overprice their service, expecting you to pay on average $350 to trim one 2-story tree.
The sales person/tree consultant Darryl seemed disgusted that I only wanted to use $225 worth of service, trying to convince me that those prices were on par with their level of "expertise, schooling/education and background" in tree service. "Anyone with a chainsaw can trim a tree, but we are experts." He scoffed when I told him what I paid ABC Lawn Services last year, saying they weren't experts. I defended ABC since they bought out a reputable local tree service company. Annoyed, I rolled my eyes and told him to just get to the point. He basically said "this time" he would let us use the $225 to cover one tree and would not charge me anything over, except for tax.
The whole deal was a total farce since I knew that the people coming to actually trim the tree would be the worker bees who would likely be underpaid and barely English speaking. I feel bad for them since they probably see nothing of this overpriced nonsense.
When they arrived this morning, the crew spent maybe 20 minutes trimming our young Burr Oak. On top of that, there was no "expert" foreman to tell them where to trim. While the tree looks good enough, small limbs that needed to be cut off are still there, taking away nutrients from the top of the tree that still needs to grow.
This is not a reflection on the people who actually had to come work in the extreme heat. I am extremely disappointed in the company's customer service and supposed expertise. They are clearly more interested in bringing customers in with their "too-good-to-be-true" coupons, than they are with keeping them by offering a valuable and affordable tree trimming service.
Needless to say, I will not be using them again and urge anyone who is thinking about purchasing their Yelp deals or other Groupon-esk deals to stay away. I will be posting this on Facebook and sending out to my neighborhood list serve as well. The only thing this company can do to redeem themselves would be to offer to finish up the job and give me what they promised in my money's worth.
We have filed complaints with both the BBB and Urban Delight. -

They did an excellent job. Professional, on time, thorough...what more could you ask for. Our trees were very over grown & dead, and it was nice that they took the time to explain what needed to be done to each tree.
We knew it would be a costly project, and it was, but they were nice enough to split it into payments.
The only mini-complaint I have is I felt pressured to agree that day to service. I understand there is a cost associated (on their end) with coming out for an estimate, but it's a major cost that I needed to factor in.
Anyway, they are licensed & insured, they hauled everything away, and did a good job. I am a fan! -

Do not purchase any sort of coupon for Brents Trees. The vendor is attempting to extort more money than the service is worth. I have requested a refund from Urban Dealight.
We just had a TON of tree trimming done in January 2011 and I bought this voucher to get just a few branches trimmed. We paid $850 for an entire trailer full of branches to be cut and hauled off in January 2011 from Woody's Trees (highly recommend them), so I bought this just for a few branches to be trimmed. Brent's Trees came out on October 1, 2011 and wanted to charge me more than I paid in January for the little work I wanted done. Obviously I said that was ridiculous.
Rather than let it go to waste, I gave the coupon to my friend to use who only has one big tree in her front yard. I told her to just get $225 worth of tree trimming done on that one tree. When Brent's came out on January 21, 2012, they would not do $225 of trimming and also wanted to charge an incredible amount and she asked them to leave.
If you read the rest of Brents Trees reviews, you will see a theme, stay away from them! -

Brents Tree Service must be super busy. So be warned that they might not be able to adequately service you or get you a timely estimate. I called Brents Tree Service in mid-January to receive an estimate on getting trees trimmed at my house. Spoke with someone who asked me questions, including my address and phone number. This someone said Brents Tree Service would be getting back to me soon. Days passed. At least two weeks past. Nothing. No returned phone call. Again, Brents Tree Service must be super busy to not follow-up on a potential job.
I called Brents Tree Service back today to close the loop and tell them I'm going to find someone else to trim my trees. The reply back to me was, in smug fashion, an utter of "Okay." No hint of "sorry, we dropped the dropped the ball." Nope. Just an utter of "Okay." With that, and like another person's review of Brents on Yelp, I am choosing to do busy with a tree trimmer that is more responsive to customers and more apologetic.

Bought the $225 Urban Delight coupon. I was not given the option to use the $225 coupon by itself. My choices were to spend an extra $560 on the back yard or $1200 on the front yard. Not sure why I continued with the transaction but i did. I would have given one star but the guys working did do a great job for the 90 minutes they were in my back yard. Get multiple bids before you let them talk you into the job. Even if you bought the coupon, you can get your money back from any of the vendors (groupon, urban delight, etc.) that sell them.

Brent's Tree service is top notch!! The Sales Manager Darryl came out to my house and walked the property. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the trees and what they needed. I have a huge Ash in my front yard, and he told me how to make it last -- due to it is 35 years old.
The work crew was here the next morning and did an awesome job, they trimmed up two trees and cleaned the yard as they worked. I have 3 kids, and they were respectful of that with the cleaning of the back yard!!
After the work, All my neighbors asked me who did the work, and I referred them to Brent's. They did such a great job, everyone notices!! I highly recommend them. -

I became a huge fan of Brents Tree Service. I called them several days ago and Darrell (I hope I spelled the name correctly) met me at the house and gave me a estimate that was very, very reasonable. He stated that not only could they be out in the morning to work on the trees but they also would finish in several hours and bill me a few days later for the work completed. The estimate was no-charge and the work on the trees was truly outstanding.
GREAT company, GREAT service, GREAT values and a very reasonable price.

First off, when it comes to anything regarding any kind of landscaping, I know absolutely nothing. I can barely keep up with my lawn, I've got dead grass everywhere, overgrown trees blocking the sun to that grass, and an HOA that has been breathing down my neck about it for a very long time (one of these days they'll own my home, I'm sure of it!).
First things first, prune those trees!! I have three trees in my front yard: two were planted by the homebuilders and one was left as part of the original land. The latter tree is my Dr. Seuss tree because it has branches going in every direction that make no sense whatsoever. I've tried keeping up with trimming it myself over the years, but it finally outgrew me...to to the tune of 20 feet tall and covering the entire front lawn.
So I called Brent's Tree Service. I called early on a Monday morning. As mentioned below, the office manager was very nice and talkative. She told me I would be the first to be visited that next Wednesday at 9 AM. She also told me that they had a minimum $242 charge for work done (the estimate would be free, though). Since I mentioned that I had seen their ad on a billboard off of I-35 (and here on Yelp, of course), she told me I would get a 20% discount.
The estimator was right on time (of course, I was already outside working on my front lawn; I was having a guest over after all!). He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful answering all of my questions and helping me understand things I hadn't even thought of in regards to my trees.
The one tree was really the only one I had wanted to be worked on, but he made some recommendations on the other two trees I had out there as well. I went ahead and decided to go with his team working on all three trees plus some bushes I wanted pulled out.
I didn't bid out to other tree services, so I really have no idea if the final cost was more or less expensive than any others. Most people who are not tree professionals told me it shouldn't cost more than $300 to remove a tree, so i was a bit taken aback when my estimate came out to nearly $400 (after the discounts) to trim and clean up 3 trees. However, I did sign on the dotted line, and the next day, their crew came out and did the work as requested. I wasn't there when they came to the house, but I couldn't have showed up that much longer after they left. The front lawn was clean of any debris (branches, etc.), and the trees looked fantastic.
Thanks to Brent's Tree Service! -

Brents Tree Service came out to clear 13 trees out of my back yard. Apparently, I had a forest. They were all trash Hack Berry and Chinese Tallow trees, so now my experience.
The office manager was extremely nice and professional. Always promptly called me back and scheduled a person to come out that week. Now the guy that came out...um, yeah, I was not his biggest fan. We had an appointment at 3pm for his estimate. First off I had 3 missed calls on my phone with no message from an unknown number starting from 1:30 or so...I finally called the number back and he said "It's so and so" (I forgot his name) "and I have been sitting outside your house since 2 pm. Where are you?"
Me: "I thought our appointment was at 3."
Him: "Yes, but I thought you'd be here early."
My thoughts: Well you thought wrong and it is not my problem you sound irritated cause you're waiting on me.
So he quoted me in a cheesy, pushy, used car salesman kind of way, promising me a "good price." I agreed to use them because they seemed priced well and that team that was doing the work did not include this dude.
Anyway, the team that came out to clear the trees was great! Prompt, cleaned up all the mess, polite and fast. They did not leave any leaves or branches any where and I was truly impressed with their speed.Comment from Dusty B. of Brents Tree Service 4/27/2010

I was traumatized as a child by the many weekends my parents made me mow, weed, pick up rocks, etc. so in general as an adult I tend to avoid working around the house when possible.
Last year, I noticed that during storms tree branches were hitting the house. (Well, I'd probably noticed that for a year or two, but it was getting really bad). I do have one of those saws on a stick for when I'm feeling studly and want to prune a tree, but looking around the house it looked like there were a zillion branches that had grown near the house. Some people in my neighborhood newsgroup recommended Brent's Tree Service, so I called them.
It was easy and painless. I didn't have to be at the house for them to give me an estimate or trim the trees. They did a good job of trimming all around the house, not pruning the big branch I told them not to prune, and none of the trees died.
This was last year, but I forgot to review them here - I just remembered because I noticed there was a cool car wrapped in Brent's Tree Service ads in the Lifetime Fitness parking lot this morning. So apparently, advertising works. -

Really. No hype, the service is five stars. Our prized Live Oak - the only one on our block - was in serious need of grooming. I knew it was way past time for its biennial trimming when I saw that the drivers for the waste and recycling trucks had to stop, exit the cab, and use the small arm to empty our receptacles rather than use the one that is operated from within the cab. The tree trimmers were knowledgeable, efficient, precise in their work, and cleaned up nicely after the job. Moreover, they cut the limbs and protected the cuts as described by the sales staff. Pricing was well within the range for a prized tree such as ours. She (our tree) really is a beauty! In fact she's my favorite plant. And now she's showing off her new cut for all to see!

Brent's Tree Service did an incredible job for me! I called on Saturday afternoon and had someone at my house Monday morning for an estimate. Crews were there first thing Tuesday morning and worked all day. They were prompt and professional - even left the yards cleaner than they were when they came! They followed up with a call to see if I was satisfied - and even came out to cut one more branch for me!
Incredible crew - great folks to work with - great customer service!

Due to this terrible drought, I decided to give my trees some care. It will be a lot more costly to have to remove a 50 ft. dead tree, than to prune and water it now. So I called Brents. Jerry scheduled the appointment, Darryl came out and gave me an estimate for my trees to be trimmed. The following week their crew of 5 guys arrived right on time and went to work. They were efficient and quick, pruning 5 of the trees on my property. Best of all they cleaned up every stick. These guys know what they're doing and I will use them again in the future.

I can't give one star because the crew that actually did the work seems to have done an adequate job. Not that I'm an expert on pruning, but they removed two dead trees from my property successfully. I may come re-do this review if the tree they trimmed eventually dies :|
However, the salesman Darryl is not a good face for the business. He's pushy and the estimates are inflated. TIP IF YOU GOT THE URBAN DEALIGHT COUPON!!! : Do NOT mention in advance you have the coupon. Get the estimate and then tell them you have the coupon when you purchase. They are going to bump up the price because you're obviously going to go with them since you have the coupon, and they're trying to make their money back. It's really dishonest, and I wish I hadn't gotten the coupon now.
We asked them to come give an estimate on two thing--trimming a particular tree that was causing damage, and the tree removal. From what I can tell from my highly scientific internet research, the whole thing should have cost around $500 total. First of all, he pushed my poor boyfriend into scheduling $1700 worth of work the NEXT DAY. So SECOND TIP: be prepared to be railroaded into services and appointments that don't give you time to rethink. When I called them back to say "uh UH! That is not what we asked for" Darryl was extremely annoying and condescending. Acted like the 40 minutes he spent going around giving all the estimates was worth $1700 itself, like we had asked him to do that, and like it was too difficult to give an itemized estimate. Like I said, since I already told him I had the coupon it wasn't like I could say "Well, I'm taking my business elsewhere" because I already had $75 sunk into it.
Overall, not a great experience. -

I called them after a storm and they came right out and cleaned everything up for us. Good things first: The people who came out to clean our 5-6 Oak trees in the backyard and One tree in the front yard were great. They cleaned eveything after they were done. They asked us to check and let them know if there is anything else we wanted them to do/cut/clean. they were professional and the work was professional. Positive Points for the work.
Now the not so good part. I agree with Martha A. The sales person who came out to give us the estimate, kept insisting on some key words and didnt look like he had a lot of technical knowledge. When at the end of the appointment, I told him that, my husband and Ineed to talk about this and I will call him back, by the evening, his tone changed. He was visibally disappointed and that surprised me a lot. Come on, I am going to shop around, you dont have to be so disappointed. We didnt make a decision that evening, so before I could call this sales guy, he called my husbad and was almost on the verge of being rude. He again sounded upset that we didnt call him when we told him that we will by evening. Seriously.
Then based on the reviews here, I decided to get the work done from Brents. since, I didnt care much about the Sales guys, I wanted good work. Again, we called and took an appointment and told them that we have specific needs on the way we want to triom our trees, so please call and let us know when the guys will come to our place. Sales guy said he will call. We never heard from him, when we tried calling him, he didnt pick his phone. So, we decided to call the office. I talked to a lady on the phone and she assured me that the guys wont come to our place till like noon. so, I decided to leave for work and go back home after lunch. As soon as I reached work, my husband called me to tell me that the Tree guys are at our Home, starting the work. REALLY? the Office people are ignorant and have no clue. The Sales guy just cared about signing us up for the service but not really taking care of our needs and special requests. I was upset. Our trees look nice and all, but the guys trimmed it wayyy tooo much. If I were there, I would have gotten it done very differently. I am not complaining a lot since my trees dont look bad.
I would really recommend changing the ways of the customer facing people at your place to match the good work the actual service guys did. It will help.
Thanks !!
