Brent's is really, really good. My family has been going there since I was a little kid and I love everything I have ever gotten. I used to love a pastrami sandwich, matzah ball soup, or the corn beef, but sadly after becoming vegetarian I had to give up my delicious meaty favorites in lew of more veggie friendly alternatives... I still love the yummy blintzes, latkes, and the desserts are AMAZING. I always get the Napoleon cake because that is my favorite dessert of all time anywhere I go, but I love the brownies and the lemon bar too. Everything is good at Brent's

Today was my first time to patronize Brent's, after hearing some colleagues rave about the place.  Since the people in my household are on diets, I stayed strong in the face of all the tempting pastries, and just took some salads.  Even those were more than generous portions.  With ample parking and an attentive staff, they have my vote!

If you live in the Valley, I don't see any need to venture to Fairfax for your deli fix when there is Brent's.  It may sound like sacrilege to say it's better than Canter's, but all history aside, it just plain is, plus it's a bit cheaper and the service is better.

The black pastrami reuben is to die for, but this past time I had to mix it up and go for my fave from the breakfast menu ("served all day, as it should be") --- cinnamon raisin french toast.  Four thick slabs slathered in butter and syrup...yum.  My friend got the cheese blintzes and they were pretty good (I've had many a bad blintz)...though one is definitely enough of that rich stuff.

To top it all off, we each had a chocolate egg cream....no real eggs involved. You may have noticed a trend here....yeah, I've got a sweet tooth, but thinking about those sandwiches has got me craving something savory.  Looks like I'll have to find another Canter's fan to convert....

The sandwiches were delicious! Flawless! Huge!! They use enough meat for 3 smaller homemade sandwiches! The service was great. I organize weekly company lunches and it is usually a pretty tough job for the waiters, since everyone has a separate check and we need to keep the lunch within an hour. There are usually 15 people in the group. I called the manager and asked if we could fax in the order early, so that they could have the food ready for us when we get there. Usually the restaurants take about good 20 minutes trying to figure out each one's check, but since I called in early and the manager, Mark, followed the steps, everything went very well and this is definitely a place to go back to! Reservation is accepted for 6 people or more. By the way, it took us only 45 minutes from leaving the office, eating and back to the office!

Brent's is by far the very best deli in LA, even in the country, and I've been to several in New York City. No comparison. Even the pancakes are the best anywhere. All the soups are so good and delicious, they'll stand any test against anyone's mother. Of course the sandwiches are to die for - maybe its the bread - so good. The portions are huge,
the prices are reasonable for what you get, and the service - tops!!
I've seen and sampled the platters at a catered event - I want a platter
for my birthday. More than that, I think Brent's is really one of the very
best restaurants anywhere - all things considering. Love it. Love it.

Brent's Deli is a classic, and has always been great for catering, take out, or sitting down to have a corned beef sandwich. They have some nice desserts too. The place was expanded  when the neighboring business closed down. The wait can be anywhere from 5-50 minutes depending on what time you decide to show up. I think they need to expand again. They have another location in Westlake Village, but I've never been there.

My family ordered catering service from Brent's when my Grandfather passed away some years ago. I was contemplating on what a great man he was, and how he served his country with honor in WW2, and at the same time thinking about how he would of loved a great corn beef sandwich from Brent's.

After reading many of the reviews on here, it appears to me that I am going to have to be the voice of reason. This is a good deli. It is not, let me say that again, it is not, a great deli. It is as good as Nate and Al's. Although this is in the valley (ugh!) and the latter is in Beverly Hills. Do not compare this to Jerry's. Jerry's is not a deli. It is not even a reasonable facsimile. It is just a pseudo deli, much like Norm's or Sizzler claim to sell steak (I have not been to either but I think you know what I mean).

The corned beef, the standard by which a deli must measure up was good. Not as good as Canter's. I actually went to Brent's on three separate occasions to check the consistency of the corned beef. It was close, but Canter's beats them. The standard deviation from greatness is far smaller at Canter's than it is at Brent's. The pickles, too new. I love half sours but these might need an extra day in the brine.

It is a good deli, in a weird location. If I didn't have to be in Northridge, I wouldn't have been.

Okay, have I restored some sanity to the page? Its a good deli. For greatness, you still have to travel to Fairfax.

Getting sick this weekend was no fun. I was rendered all but immobile in an empty house, and I hate little more than being cooped up at home. I felt like Rapunzel trapped up in the tower with nothing to do but spin on her loom, though I slept and Yelped a bit too. By the evening I was fed up. Bored, achy, and tired I just wanted someone to rescue me from the confines of my stuffy room and a dinner of sliced almonds and candy cane jo jos (the only edible items in my cupboard) and get me some soup.

Enter my knight in shining armor. I get a knock on my door and it's Mark, out of nowhere with his trusty steed (of metal), there to take care of me and better yet, drive me somewhere else. I knew I wanted some hearty soup so I looked up Brent's and we were off. It was packed but it only took 5 minutes for a booth.

Our server, Renee, was hilarious and efficient. Minutes after ordering, the largest bowl of mushroom barley soup I have ever seen was steaming before me. It even came with chunks of the tenderest brisket I could have asked for. After consuming as much as I could of the yumminess the bowl could have still fed another person well. It was just what I needed, as was the restaurant itself-full of older folks (Mark and I being at least 20 years younger than anyone else dining) interested in nothing but grubbing, I didn't feel gross despite my Rudolph-red nose, braided pigtails, and schlubby clothes. Brent's turned me from a cranky, whiny beast back into the charmer I so often am (ha ha)!

The boy had the bleu cheese burger with curly fries and I don't think I have ever seen a plate piled so high. But it wasn't the quantity of food that made this place great, it was the homemade feeling. We both left with full bellies, happy to know satisfying comfort food is a mere 5 minutes from my house. It only cost us $18 plus tip, and yes, I paid for myself because while I may need my knight, I am still a modern woman.

This place has been great for many, many years and it is not slowing down.  I came for breakfast yesterday and was completely satisfied.  My egg white omelet with ham, cheese and mushrooms was basically perfect.  The portion sizes are big enough for an obese American - oops, that wasn't nice.  Seriously, the portions are huge.  Not cheap but you must pay up for this type of quality.

I'm going to first of all thank yelp and all the fellow yelpers for this kick ass place. I've lived in the valley all my life and have not once steped my foot in this glorious place. That all changed last week.

In the past I've had fairly average if not negative experiences at Deli's. Of course most of the negative experiences comes from the oh so overpriced evil franchise that is called "Jerry's." This place however has opened up a new wonderful path for me.

This place has the best friggin Reuben sandwiches hands down. So moist, so tender and oh so delicious. The portions are mighty generous so even the hungriest of bellies will be fully satiated. Its a great place to bring friends, family, kids and hell even a date. It doesn't have a romantic feel. Its actually quite home'ish with a retro ghetto 50's aura. But, the food is so badass that your  significant other will totally forgive you for bringing them here.

Holy cow.

No.  Wait.  Holy...cow, pig, turkey, chicken and PICKLES!

No.  Wait.  That's not right either.  This is a deli we're talking about.

OY VEY. 4 stars

Yes, those two words, that one simple expression encapsulates my entire Brent's experience.  I've been dining at this SFV deli hotspot since I was a kid, and I keep coming back for more.  Truth be told, despite the inconsistencies, the food here is usually pretty tasty, and that makes Brent's one of the better delicatessens in the LA area.

Does Brent's have the best food ever?  Well, no.  The food can be hit or miss at times, such as my EXTREMELY dry and bland turkey burger the other night.  Then again, it -is- a turkey burger we're talking about here.  But.  Inconsistencies aside (-.5 stars).  They just give you so. damn. much, you can't really fault them! A classic example of quantity over quality.

For example, my mother ordered the stuffed cabbage and kishka dinner, which came complete with the following:
1. Appetizer of Choice
2. Beverage
3. Soup (mega-bowl of Matzo-ball)
4. Main Course (duh?)
5. Dessert

This would be a non issue were it not for the fact that each item is in and of itself massive enough to feed one individual.  Each and every time I eat here I wind up waddling out and wishing for a stretcher.

The service has always been excellent and you can count on your server, your neighboring table's server, the host/ess, busboy, or whoever, to do anything in their power to ensure you get everything you need out of the Brent's experience.  I think that's pretty cool.  Last time our server was a guy named Francisco, who, as it turns out, was once a busboy (when I was younger).  The fact that they promote their folks from within is pretty cool, too!

I need a nap.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing. Actually I only ate half, but what a sandwich. I split a triple decker turkey and pastrami combo with my buddy and got a potato knish and side of kasha vanishkas. The pastrami was extremely tasty - lightly seasoned compared to some, but very good none the less. A few pieces were a little fatty, but not extraordinarily so. Just so you know I'm not a Jew from the valley, I'm a Jew from the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Not that that gives me any superior deli-wisdom... or maybe it does. Either way, this is a top notch deli - whether it were on the East coast, West coast or the moon.

I'd love to YELP some more, but it's nappy time.

Wheelchair access: Brent's is in a strip mall with good parking. There's easy access, well spaced tables and a good bathroom.

I DEFY YOU TO TRY AND FIND A BETTER DELI. Whenever you want something, it's there. When you ask for lean/extra lean meat, there's not an ounce of fat or--in the case of Art's deli--fatty meat hidden in the middle of the sandwich. Brent's is simply delicious. Don't listen to the over the hill crowd that disses on this place in favor of Langer's which is great, but no Brent's.
I know that there are some out there that are put off by the strip mall location and the nearly dead/nearly about to contract diabetes crowd that it can attract, but that's what makes this place what it is. Besides, it's so damn good that, in all actuality, it attracts just about everybody.
RECOMMENDATION: get the cabbage soup. There's nothing else like it.

I love delis, and I loooooove Brent's. I try to make a pilgrimage there whenever I'm back home visiting the parents. Art's has the Industry patronage, Canter's has the rock-star cred, but Brent's is the real thing. Plus, it's in the Valley, where the plastic hordes from the other side of the hill won't go. This keeps the kiss-kiss-call-my-people-we'll-do-lunch BS to a minimum.

A few years ago, I went to New York and ate at the Carnegie Deli. I like Brent's better.

BEST DELI FOOD EVER!! Better than Canters!

When you order Matzo Ball soup, get the matzo ball on the side. You will get wayyyyyyy more broth, noodles and carrots.

When you order the pastrami or CORNED BEEF (Which is SO DELICIOUS, jsut writing this review makes me want some ASAP) Get the mean LEAN!! If you dont, there is a ton of fat which, I feel, really takes away from the deliciousness of the meat itself.

The price varies on what you order.

Brent's was one of the two restaurants we had cater our wedding.  This one was Paul's choice and he was very excited about it.  (My choice was Carnival....hummus and falafel anyone???)  :)

The food is easily worth five stars, if not more but I can't bring myself to give them five stars for a couple reasons.  The catering process was ridiculously painful.  It is impossible to get a straight answer on the phone, all the people I spoke with were less than pleasant, Paul ended up having to be very stern with them to finally call me back, and they lost my first faxed order.  ARGH!  Oh, and they were slightly late with the delivery but when we called to see where they were they told us that they were waiting for one item to be finished cooking because they wanted to make sure we got the freshest, cooked to perfection food.  Hmmmmm, OK but shouldn't that still be the case and the food should still arrive on time???

Anyway, the food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful.  All of our appetizers were done from there.  The fruit was cut up in all different shapes and sizes, and it was totally fresh, so delicious!  The crudites were served with two different dressing choices and there was a wide array of veggies to choose from.  They even put jicama in it and I love jicama!  The cheese and cracker platter was great, lots of different cheeses to choose from!  Plus, we ordered a mixture of beef and potato knishes which were good but I wish they had separated them.  It was difficult to tell which one was the vegetarian one.  We also ordered a tray of potato latkes which were great, they were little mini ones, perfect for appetizers!

For part of the dinner buffet we had asked for trays of sandwiches and we wanted different types of bread, rolls, meats, cheeses, dressings, and salads.  We got everything we asked for and then some!  They also included trays of pickles, onions, and other toppings for the sandwiches.  Everything was fresh, especially the bread.  It was really soft and tasted like it was right out of the oven.

It was perfect.  It was exactly what Paul wanted to accompany my crazy menu from Carnival!  He was very pleased.  Brent's isn't necessarily cheap but you just get so much food!  We had so much food left over! Everything tasted delicious!

This is the best Jewish Deli around.  Forget Weilers, Art's, Abe's, Jerry's or any other.  Once you've been to Brent's, you'll never stray.

Everything on the menu is very delicious, but I HAVE to recommend the hot pastrami and turkey dip.  O M G.  They serve it on a french roll, with melted swiss cheese, grilled onions, potato salad, fries, au jus and pickles.  Its piled so high, only Mick Jagger could fit it in his mouth to take a bite.

The wait can be long, but there is ample parking and the people are friendly.  Its on the costly side, but worth the extra bucks since you almost always have left overs.

That's one big ball you've got there, Brent.  If you go to Brent's deli, you should try the matzo ball soup.  It's tasty and has a matzo ball as big as your head.  Share the soup with someone else and stop there.  That's the smart thing to do.

Of course, we didn't know any better.  After sharing the soup and eating the rye bread and tasting the pickles, we had to find room for our dinners.  After finishing about 1/2 of our food (if that), we found space for the rest in take out containers.

The wait was long but worth it.  Considering how full the lobby was they actually got us seated and served fairly quickly.

OMG, what a great deli!  The very best pastrami and chopped liver on the planet, and all you east coast schmucks who argue that nothing good deli-wise comes from west of the Hudson can pound sand!  Brent's is what delicatessen eating is all about and then some.  Week day lunch involves giving your car over to a valet and passing through a gauntlet of canes and walkers to put your name on the waiting list.  Once seated, the service is quick and efficient.  Go here and hear your arteries start to clog!  Enjoy!

I seriously heart me some Brent's.

Growing up in the Valley, one thing was a given: if you were going to "a deli," it meant only one thing: you were going to stuff your face at Brent's.

Not Abe's.
Not Art's.
Not Fromin's.
Not Big Apple.
Brent's. :)

Even if it meant waiting for a table for a double-digit period of minutes, during which you idly oggled the revolving desserts.

Now that I'm all growed up and live in Hollyweird, I miss Brent's like Katie Holmes misses the Scientology-free Creek. And if I close my eyes and try and get it just right, I can still taste the yummy chicken noodle soup in my head. Yuuuuum.

Also, if you're at all adventurous, try the tongue sammie. DON'T GET ALL JOSIE GROSSIE ON ME; it's good! I think that Brent's was the first (and maybe the only) place I ever actually ordered the tongue sandwich, but it remains one of my favorite foodie pleasures. Hot tongue on rye with a little mustard. Mmmm... I want to make love with that cow. Or at least her tongue. Sooooo gooood.

Brent's. I can't believe it took me so long to go here. So basically, a bunch of the old high school friends were in town and going to lunch. They totally planned it like 3 hours before I had to go to work, with a 2 hour commute ahead of me. So I get there, and they were all being slow and lax.

Not me! I got the half Reuben and salad with blue cheese. When my food came, they were still totally thinking. Speedy! So I dumped out the entire little bowl of blue cheese on my salad. My friends totally gasped.

"You just killed any nutritional value that salad had."

Gawd, live a little, geez.

"I wonder if there is anything vegetarian here."

Geez... that's why they are the high school friends, I guess.

That was about when I started inhaling my Reuben. Good shiz! Man, I can't help but love a classic deli style Reuben.

Anyway, after that, I headed off. I needed to pay before they were even getting their food, and the staff was totally cool and worked it out.

And that was my first visit.

That would have garnered about a 4 stars cause I didn't really have proper time to review, but had a good experience nonetheless.

BUT, then I needed to find some marble rye. Why? Well, it is a long story that involves a love story between myself and some microsopic creatures. Needlesstosay, I couldn't find a loaf of marble rye anywhere. I went to bakeries and supermarkets... the supermarkets were useless, and the bakeries were like, "We only do those on special order." Fuckers.

So I was in the neighborhood and was like, "Maybe Brent's?"

I timidly walked in and was like, "You don't happen to have any marble rye by any random chance, do you?"

The girl blinked and then replied, "Of course we do! How much do you need?"

I love you.

Brent's. My favorite non-Italian deli by far!

I dared to go into the Valley and brave the 100+ temps just to try this restaurant. Actually, I was kidnapped by a couple Valley Girls who swore this was the best deli in LA... and, they were right!  Ginormous portions and delicious food.  I always thought Reuben sandwiches were too salty, sour, and etc, but they perfectly balanced the flavors at Brent's!  I'm salivating just thinking about it!  Yum!  Like, ohmygod, you'll have to try this place to know what I mean!

Oh and btw... my typical LA uniform (a cami paired with a jean skirt) seemed a little too skimpy for the suburbanites who looked at me as if I was a happy-ending-masseuse in the wrong neck of town... next time i'll have to go in wearing mom jeans and a t-shirt.

So my second destination on my day in "THE VALLEY" led me to Zagat and apparently Yelp famous Brent's Deli.

I was lucky enough to be an introduced to this gem of a place by the daughter of the lovely waitress KAT =].  Though there was a wait outside we jumped right to the front and were seated almost immediately, sorry folks ;)

So my first impression of this place was off because i notice they had almost every review and and posting from any newspaper that had to do with Brent's, yeah its a little self-boasting, but once you eat here, you'll understand and support this egotistical deli.

I myself am a pastrami kinda person so was immediately sold on the hot pastrami dip.  To top that off, I requested the sweet potato fries with a side of syrup.  A little secret I learn from Nick and Stefs ;)
The sandwich was amazing combine with the auju sauce, though I think I could have done with about 42 LESS layers of pastrami, and of course the fries were to die for.

My flatmate that joined me in this adventure ordered the Philly cheese melt. Which he stated was 'better then most he has had on the east coast".

Neither of us were able to finish the entire sandwich, only half, so that should let you know what the portions are like.  Friendly environment and there is even The Stovepiper next door which we didnt go to, but i heard there is even a window there that you can order food from BRENT'S!

If you happen to make a trip out to the valley (cause I'm sure if you live there you already know) then you must stop for a bite to eat here!

Best pastrami ever! I'm sure all the other stuff is tasty, but why waste your time when the most amazing pastrami sandwich you will ever have is waiting for you? Thin sliced and piled high on some of the best rye bread around. Just add some mustard and you are all set. And the coleslaw and potato salad sides are delish as well.

Incredible menu.   From great deli sandwiches to old fashioned Jewish dishes like potato pancakes, matzo ball soup, "kishka", and even brisket tacos!!!!

Their oven baked rye break is the best I or anyone I know has ever had.  They finish it in their own ovens and cut it rough.  It is worth going there just for a few slices of rye break and butter!

Also... they have something called "2 cents plain"  which is their own seltzer water on tap and it is free!

Just had a corned beef reuben there last week and I could not get over the great taste of the corned beef.  It is not like that in other delis.

Not all deli's are alike, and Brent's stands apart from the pack!  If you come at prime senior citizen times, then you will have to wait for a seat... and they close shop promptly at 9, but if you can otherwise get in, you should.

I LOVE the split pea soup, it is so thick with huge pieces of ham and carrots, and the cabbage soup is even better.

The sandwiches are all great (brisket dip, corned beef, pastrami all great!), and the service is usually exceptional, but even if you do get a crappy waitress the bus boys are GREAT!.

If you are ordering to go from the actual deli, and not on the phone, give the tip to the guys BEFORE they prepare your order, and you will be gld that you did.

I actually work a block away from here and i never really knew about it until a friend told me how great this place was. So after work one day i pop in for a quick lunch and find that the place is PACKED. I was by myself so i was seated pretty quickly. I got the French Dip, and usually im always disappointed by it everywhere i go but Brents. if you anyone is in the area and looking for a good sandwich Brents is the place to be.

Represent!

This is part of my Jewish heritage - literally - I knew I was Jewish growing up when I came here and watched my parents eat lox on their bagels and we ran into the entire Jewish community. One 10 year old celebrity moment was when the northridge little league team ate here after winning the world championships (or whatever they are called).

All I gotta say is Jewish soup rules, blintzes rule, and large sandwiches rule.

Unfortunately, being vegetarian isn't easy if I want soup or sandwiches here - except egg salad and the pickles they put on the table are awesome.

I realized later in life that a good Jewish deli is rare in California and so this place is special.

Check it out.

Also good for picking up sandwich platters for special occasions.

PS This is my 100th review

I miss Brents. Having moved too far away to find any excuse to drive over for brunch it has been years since I've been -- but I constantly hear from friends and family who live 30-60min away from Brents about how fantastic the food is. People drive for miles, they line up: you must eat at Brents.

Aside from the deli greats, like the Super Fish Platter, try anything with the bbq sauce and you'll be happy.

When Brent's came up in conversation just now, Adam said: "Can you give it forty-two stars?"

HUGE breakfasts, good service, super-comfortable atmosphere. Sure, you have to wait, but all the better to anticipate!

Christ. I made a rhyme.

Anyway, almost worth going to see the future in-laws. Nuff said.

This place is the ONE PLACE I do miss after moving to the Bay Area.

I'm not too into the traditional Jewish fare...I'm not even Jewish. I used to go here for the awesomely fresh sandwichs. Piled high with a great variety of kosher meats on some great tasting breads. Wow Brent's, I miss you.

Sadly, the super sour pickles are only on the plates...not served as a free appetizer anymore. That's okay...your sandwiches are the best in SoCal. There is no substitute!

Be prepared to wait for a table...but it is sooo worth it. Yum!

My family's been going to Brent's since I was a baby, and among all the Valleyites I know (mostly my family and my mom's friends), Brent's is the Must Have for your parties.  You need a deli tray?  You call Brent's.  This is SO well known that on Season 2 of "24" a Brent's catering truck delivered goods to the site of Reyza's/Marie's wedding.  I cracked up.  Did anyone else catch that?

While getting the deli tray, mini blintzes, and mini knishes makes a nice Mother's/Father's Day family event spread, going to Brent's is one of my least favorite things.  It's always packed, the waiting area is small, and there are both small children and old people everywhere.  If you want to overhear Barbara talking about what her husband Morty's urologist told him, then this is your place.  Other than that, the menu is enormous, the latkes, as previously stated, are both gigantic and good, and all the breakfast stuff is delicious.  My family loves the turkey pastrami sandwiches, but I wouldn't know.

I never knew Brent's existed until about 3 years ago until my aunt who lives in Reseda took me to this diamond. Their corned beef sandwich was absolutely divine. Loved it!

I'm a Jew.
I love deli's, its in my blood
This has to be the best delicatessen that I've ever been to.
Their Matzo Ball Soup could feed a small family
Their cheese blintzes are perfectly stuffed with ricotta and ooze out the side when you cut into them
Free pickles on the table.  (did someone say free?)
There is always a wait, so they must be doing something right.
They got smart.  They expanded.  Next review, Brents Westlake.
