Still as good as I remember.  I don't understand the "bad" reviews.  What are you expecting?  Filet mignon?

And to those that bitch about it being cash-only, get the f*** out.

This is everything you hoped for and more.

    Yes the broth is heavenly.

The drive to Brooklyn is not.

... I'd still do it again. You win this one Brooklyn!! Now let me cry on my drive back to Queens...

P.S. yes I got mine double dipped but I think next time, I'll have my sandwich dry so I don't have to fork and knife it. Instead, I'll do shots of au jus on the side HAH!

I had heard about this place from a Brooklyn transplant in Los Angeles. When I mentioned to him that I had tried Roll N Roaster, he told me Brennan and Carr's trumps it. So following his advice, I went and I was not disappointed.

Each time I've gone, I had the Roast Beef Double Dipped. That means you're ordering the Roast Beef sandwich for 5.50 and getting a side of au jus sauce to dip the sandwich in. If you don't like it too soggy then you don't have to get it.

Each time, the sandwich has been very tasty and very easy to eat. I usually get it with fries and use the au jus sauce on the fries as well.

As good as this place is, it's the type of place you go occasionally since the food is likely very salty. But if you like roast beef sandwiches and au jus sauce then this is the spot for you.

Also keep in mind it's a cash only place.

This restaurant lives up to its reputation.  I had a chance to try a single dip roast beef sandwich over the weekend.  It was juicy and one of the best sandwiches I've had in NYC.  This place ranks up there with Katz's for best NYC sandwiches.  I've had a lot of Italian Beef's in Chicago and have tried Al's and Mr Beef.  This sandwich is not as savory as a chicago style Italian Beef but it is tender and juicy and similar to the style served in buffalo.   It is a great lunch sandwich.  My only wish is that open a place closer to Manhattan or that more carvery style sandwich places open up in our city.  This style of sandwich needs to come back!

    Awesome sandwiches.

    Outstanding double dip.

They only except cash.  Food is always good.

I have had the Burger double dipped and the Roast Beef Double Dipped.  Go with the Roast Beef double Dipped.  I see that many people get fries with a cup of  "gravy".  I have yet to try this.  Looks good though.

Great onion rings. Crispy and delicious. Loved it! The roast beef sandwich was good, though under flavored. Even being dipped in drippings doesn't help it much.

The french fries, which smelled amazing as you walk in, were under flavored, as was the New England clam chowder, which had too much potatoes. (Thank you, salt and pepper on the table.) The beef broth, which tasted like it came from a packet, was nice and boring - but you can't argue with 1,000+ grams of sodium.

Great staff - friendly, nice, quick service.

I was brought here by a cousin and he recommended the infamous roast beef sandwich. Of course I had no clue what was so special about it, but I still ordered it. I usually don't add onions to whatever, this time I actually decided to because I was curious.

When my order came, I couldn't wait but to dig in my sandwich. First, I realized the buns were soaked in something, but whatever it was made it delicious! The roast beef wasn't too salty and its so far the best i've had, melted on top of cheese with grilled onions along with buns soaked in beef broth.

What makes it even better is that we had a 6 yr old kid with us that day. (He's usually very picky with food.) this kid actually finished the sandwich himself. If he likes it, I'm sure it's worth a couple a bucks for a one time experience.

Cheap and friendly service. I will definitely come back in the future when I'm around the area.

My friend saw this place on Man vs. Food and we decided to give this place a try. I had the double dip roast beef with onions and cheese. I had to use a knife and fork to eat it and it was a little difficult. I guess I don't like my bread soaked in broth. Personally, the burger was nothing spectacular. The onions were sweet and gave the burger more flavor, otherwise it would be pretty bland.

I have been coming here my entire life. The best roast beef and au jus in Brooklyn. You cannot compare with Roll and Roaster. That is dog food. I am upset though about a few things. The whole Man vs. Food thing. I thought is was awesome when I saw my beloved B and C on the show, but since then things have changed... They now charge for au jus on the side. Never did before. And when I asked about it I was told there was always a charge... BS!  Did they think I was new to the place?

Never before was there a "fork and knife job" or "Gargiulo Burger", they created this terminology for the show hype. I just always asked for it how I wanted it. And now I hear they are charging for tap water?!?! Are they nuts? Wow... Really riding the coattails of being on the show. For shame...

This place had been around forever.  A buddy of mine who used to lived in the neighborhood thirty years ago knew the place.  As the other reviewers say, they are famous for their roast beef sandwiches where the bun is dipped in broth.  The sandwiches are okay, but nothing special to me.  The buns are soggy by the time I bring them home and the broth isn't that flavorful to me.  They have other items on the menu like buffalo wings and french fries that are decent.

The service is fast and friendly.

Parking is ample, especially if you arrive sorta early. Place looks rustic on the outside...as well as the inside. If youre looking for fancy decorum you've come to the wrong place. All that aside, the service wasn't very  attentive, but the food was crazy delicious. my only complaint was the wait staff. Once the food was down they forgot about ya until you were done eating. Our friends didnt even get their drinks until well after their food was delivered, and even then they had to ask a second time for them. Still great though, and would return.

Never thought I'd be all the way out in Brooklyn on my own eating roast beef, but I was and I was happy. Actually, no, I wasn't alone - my buddy drove us here as an impulsive last min decision before hitting up the beach. (Not the smartest idea in retrospect because I ate so much and my 2 piece was doing nothing to hide it...) But I completely enjoyed my meal here - partly because I had absolutely zero expectations and partly because I'm a little piggy that loves roast beef!
Anyway, great little place in the middle of Brooklyn that is worth the visit if you are already in the neighborhood. The roast beef sandwich with dipping broth is a lil' messy (bread soaks up the bread pretty fast and there's a lot of roast beef between the buns), but very savory and simple. Really liked the broth that came with the roast beef - it was a actually the right amount of flavor for me (not overpoweringly salty and not watery bland). The broth kept each bite of my sandwich very satisfying.
Anyway, if you are into cute original hole in the wall places that serve up hearty roast beef sandwiches - this place is one to add to your list.

I love it. The atmosphere is cozy. The roast beef sandwiches is outrageous. I went over board with the Gargiulo Burger  double dipped hamburger WITH roast beef, cheese and grilled onions. Get there early for parking. Onion rings great taste and texture. The service is good perhaps a bit hectic when busy.

Crown Nursing is basically across the street. I had seen the Man vs. Food episode but I didn't remember about it until I went in and saw the sign about them having the best roast beef. They have a menu on the wall but I believe they have more stuff.

Since I was in a wheelchair and my 2 friends had come to see me at Crown Nursing, they brought me here. One of the staff members saw I was a in wheelchair and offered to let us in through the back entrance which was wider. He showed us to a table with plenty of room for my wheelchair without getting into anyone's way.

We each ordered a different kind of beer, Bud on tap, Heineken, and Corona in bottles. We were brought two ice frosted mugs for the Heineken and Corona. I asked about the menu and they said that was pretty much it which was fine with me. I ordered the Wing Dings which were basically fried wing pieces with the hot sauce and bleu cheese on the side. We ordered fries for the table. One friends ordered the Roast beef. When the food came We sort of shared everything. The roast beef was good. The wings were crispy and since you could control the hot sauce you can determine how spicy you want it.

One of the best things about living in Manhattan is having Brennan and Carr in Brooklyn. Ok, that's an exaggeration since B&C is way the hell out there (near Coney Island), but well worth the train ride. It's a staple of the borough - something you HAVE to try. Look, this place has been around since 1938.

The beef dip is great (try a double-dip) and the sides are no frills, but tasty.

Surprisingly, the place has ample seating inside. And, despite its celebrity (it was on Man vs. Food after all), there is never a wait.

    Note: CASH only!

If it wasn't for my super intense crush on Adam Richman from Man vs Food, I probably wouldn't have gone here just to try out their infamous Gargiulo Burger and roast beef sandwich.

But to my dissatisfaction and disappointment, their sandwich did not live up to its name and if anything, it tasted more like cafeteria food, with a slap of tasteless meat, cheese, onion and stale bread that is dipped in au jus just to resuscitate it back to life. To add more insults to injuries, they also charged my friends and I 50¢ for tap water. That was insane!

After my meal, I couldn't help but to ask the cashier how it was like to meet Adam . According to the cashier, Adam was amazingly nice and fun to be around. He's huge on family and visits this place a lot when he's in town. Personally, I think I would have been more of a happy girl that night, if I could have an Adam serve on my plate instead!  Now that would have been beefy!!!

"Meh, I've experienced better" is definitely the perfect description for my experience here.  Like many others, I came from Adam Richman's Man v Food recommendation and was thoroughly underwhelmed.  The roast beef sandwich, triple dipped, was alright.  Tasted like something I could make at home.  The cheeseburger was a cheeseburger, and depressing because it was only meat, cheese, and a bun.  I like lettuce and toppings on my burger.

In all, it was alright.  On the cheaper side for a sit down place.  I enjoyed the experience, but it wasn't worth the trek from Prospect Heights.

I can see where the appeal may be to have a roast beef sandwich soaked in dipping sauce but it makes the whole thing soggy. I like having a roast beef sandwich I can eat without using a fork and knife. The bread is also soggy from the sauce so if you like sandwiches with a toasty piece of bread, this is not the place to go. The taste of the sandwich wasn't bad but I've definitely had better.

It was underwhelming. I had great company with my fellow Yelpers but the Gargiulo Burger and roast beef sandwich is only okay. I found the meat in both sandwiches bland. The portion is a wee bit small but it's expected. Beef is expensive now.

I hope my friend does meet Adam Richman so I can watch her faint! She loves him! ha!

What bothered me the most is we were charged over 50¢ each cup of water we ordered...I can't really remember the exact price....but it was for water from the tap! Really?! Incredible!!!

I've wanted to try Brennan & Carr since I saw it on the show Man vs Food.   Adam Richman made the roast beef seem like it was crafted by the gods, however, I found it lackluster and not flavorful at all.  The sandwich was super soggy and not easy to eat.  The meat was not good at all.  I swear- Arby's has more flavor than what they are serving here!  I was very, very disappointed.

A Brooklyn native told me to get the cheeseburger instead of the roast beef and I should have listened to her!

    My 1st one star review.

We ordered the roast beef sandwich, clam chowder, and fries. My reviews are based on ordering it to go so maybe the food is better when served at the restaurant. Maybe.

First, the sandwich... I guess my review is also bias because I HATE soggy bread. I was so excited when I saw the guy dip the meat into the au jus but I should've asked to pack the broth on the side... there were also only a few slices of meat which weren't any good either. I do need to comment that I ate my food 5 minutes after we left the restaurant but I don't think it would've made a difference if I ate it right away. Next, the clam chowder tasted straight from the Campbell can (before you add the milk and worse) and the fries were just fries. I totally agree with the other reviewers that the food looked a lot better on TV. Whomp Adam.

    So disappointed!

    Love their cheese fries too!

    Quick service, inexpensive.

Quick Tip: Tell them to bring out the food as its done, otherwise if they bring everything out at once, you run the chance of semi-warm food.  Their heat lamps are a little weak.  Otherwise delicious!

I visited my bff in nyc for the first time and as avid man vs food fans we wanted to check this place out. It took us 2 hours to get there by bus and subway. Her husband was so pissed we took this adventure until he had his first bite then it was all worth it. We all enjoyed every bit even sharing onion rings and cheese fries which were delicious. I think we even ordered another sandwich to share once we finished our first round, just to have another taste. Then we rolled ourselves home.
Next time we have a car to get there in, can not wait to go back!

Everytime I try a Man vs Food suggestion I forget I shouldn't really.

Man vs Food is all about ginormous helpings of food. I haven't found a suggestion that offers good tasting giant food. Really I could try to make this rather large sized roast beef sandwich with beef broth at home and I think it'd taste pretty similar but it was good for the money. These guys are purists I think so they just slap that roast beef (is it seasoned??) into a bun and put some beef broth on it. The bun soaks it up underneath so be prepared to eat it with a fork and knife.

I like the original wood signs and supporting an old school business. I'll probably try something else here next time but the roast beef is good enough for a beef eater.

Saw this on Man vs. Food and heard about it from friends for years. Decided to give it a try with my boyfriend a month ago. Wow, we could not have been more disappointed. We both got the dipped sandwiches, mine with cheese, his without. When they say dipped, they actually mean drenched to the point where the bread starts breaking apart. I couldn't pick up my sandwich without the broth dripping down my fingers. I felt gross. The roast beef was dry, and there wasn't enough cheese for my taste. I ate half of my sandwich, gave up and ordered tried and true Wing Dings. Thank god, they sold Wing Dings.

Side note, what is up with the uniforms?! All the waiters look like they just stepped away from HS biology lab.

Everything in this little no-frills restaurant is cheap, delicious, and should be dipped in a cup of beef broth.

The service is surprisingly quick.  I barely had time to pull out my phone and check in on Yelp before a waiter came back with my beer (which by the way, is served ice-cold -- great for a hot NYC summer day).

I had a hard time choosing between the roast beef sandwich and the Gargiulo burger.  With the portion sizes, I should have picked both.  Since I didn't, it gives me an excuse to plan a return trip.

The double-dipped roast beef sandwich ($5.25) was so unappealing to look at that I neglected to take a photo of the thing. The soggy mess could never be picked up, so patrons throughout the restaurant were using knife and fork.

The restaurant is a fun place to be, the waiters wear white lab coats that make them look like either a scientist or the chef. After placing your order they go grab the mic and announce it to the guys doing the cooking. The wood-paneled walls, tables full of senior citizens, and the general atmosphere of a place open since 1938 and probably not changed much is always good times.

As for the sandwich, the roast beef slices are very thin and arrive still pink, barely cooked. Obviously the sandwich is juicy when it has been double-dipped, but you can tell the meat is tender and prime cut. Each bite is better than the rest.

Brennan & Carr's is one of those places that not only take you to another time period, you just feel you are in another world altogether.

The feeling of being in a bad nightmare in Ireland is quickly erased by one of the best roast beef sandwiches I've had. The roast beef is very thinly sliced and once the sandwich is double dipped into the steaming beef broth it becomes all completely melted together merging all the sweet and salty favors together. All in all it is worth the trip to Sheepshead Bay
