wow, this place is great!!! Normally, I wouldn't write or trust a review based on just one visit, but this place is exceptionally good. Hits you as soon as you cross the threshold, with a super friendly welcome from the staff. It was 11-ish on a weekday morning, had no waiting for a table, imagine it is packed on weekends. Great menu, everybody will find something to like and want to come back to explore further. Everything that I saw come past the table looked fresh and prettily prepared. I had the eggs Benedict w/spinach and grilled onions...expertly prepared, very attractive and tasty.
Hash browns, as we know, are a food group.....these were great.
Fresh squeezed orange juice was wonderful, served a nice glass, not ruined by presenting in plastic or styrofoam. My guest had The Whole Nine Yards....oh my gosh, looked like one of everything. This would be a great place to take your out of town guests....what an impressive jewel. Fresh food, properly prepared, attractive and hot....so many places serve tepid.
Wish Breakfast Shoppe were closer to home........I may move!!! -

It's a very hard to place to find a seat. Normally packed filled from waiting area to every table, Breakfast Shoppe is a popular breakfast location right off of Ritchie Hwy.
Parking is plentiful in the shared lot, but get here early. This place fills up and quick! Mainly because the food is pretty darn good and is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had.
Largely pressed waffles, with puree'd strawberries topped with three heaps of whipped cream, the entire dish was larger than my head! Opting for a side of bacon, which was total overkill, my first bite into my meal was a rush of buttermilk followed by a sweet but creamy mix of fruit. Overall an excellent dish.
I tired my gf's french toast, and they were some of the best i've ever had. Her side of hashbrown's were perfect and the added onion just really help set off the taste in the shoestring style side.
Coffee brewed by Dockside Roasters, you'll get an endless stream of excellent coffee for a small price.
There is a lot more to the menu, then what I ordered, I will be following up with a review sometime in the future when I can try their other signature dishes. Until then, with good friendly service, and even better food. I highly recommend a visit to Breakfast Shoppe, in Severna Park MD.

Typical Severna Park parkinglot potholes notwithstanding, this is an easy-to-access location that you can see off Ritchie Highway with its large rooster logo.
Based on previous reviews, I made sure to stop on over early on a beautiful December Saturday morning and eat their hearty french toast platter. My, oh my--I have not had french bread like that in years! Fabulously filling and combined with homemade orange juice, I left very satisfied with this particular meal (even with a bit of a lighter wallet than originally expected.)
If we're working on a decimal scale, I'd give this establishment an accentuated 4.25 stars. I shall return here soon, fellow Yelpers, and try a few more items for both your reading and viewing pleasure! -
Review from Meghan C.
Very nice breakfast here on Sunday morning. They ARE open on the weekends - the Yelp app says they are only open M-F for some reason.
Five of us, sat down quickly, coffees and drinks came out quickly. Very nice menu filled with lots of goodies - the portions looked tremendous on the pancakes and french toast. I had scrambled eggs with a side of grits...the grits were instant...sorry y'all...my mummy lived in Wilmington, NC for five years...I know real grits when I see them and these ain't real - save your money.
That is kind of my only beef with this place - their sides are outrageously priced - a sliced tomato will run you $4! -

Great service, very friendly. I'm definitely liking the bigger space. All three of us enjoyed our food (french toast, banana-pecan pancakes, and one of the benedicts), and it was very nicely presented. Good experience.

I have been to the Breakfast Shoppe a few times now and I haven't been disappointed. It's a small place and it is always busy so you might have to wait, but it is worth it. They have a huge menu of breakfast items and always have a daily special. I have tried the "Whole 9 yards" a meal so huge you can probably only make to 4 yards before you give up. This past time I tried one of their specials, the "Texas Skillet" and I pretty much would have licked the plate clean but it was a skillet so you know, no plate. It was green peppers, pepper jack cheese, a layer of potatoes, portabella mushrooms, and steak on the top. In two words: breakfast heaven.

I really liked this place. Great ambiance and the service was awesome. I got the Florentine eggs benedict because I listened to other Yelpers. Big mistake. It was good, no doubt.... but my friend's French toast was UH-FREAKING-MAZING!
I tried my kids' Silver Dollar pancakes and they were good, too. Their syrup has crack in it, I think. It was delicious. I brought the leftover Silver Dollars home for lunch and my Aunt Jemima on top was just not as nice. Next time, I'm getting the French toast. No way am I wasting my calories on something that doesn't require syrup in this restaurant. I should have tried the pumpkin pancakes but I could only choose one breakfast. :-(
I guess I'll just have to go back! -

The Breakfast Shoppe is a corner hole in the wall, that is deceptive from the outside - it looks like a typical townie joint, where outsiders are ignored. We just moved here, and were greeted warmly and welcomed inside. After a short wait (they are apparently always busy on the weekend) we were seated (7 of us including two infants).
We ordered and the food was terrific. I got cinnamon roll pancakes that were awesome (could use a little more "glaze") and tasted like a cinnamon roll and not pancakes as promised. My wife got an omelette that looked so good, and I ordered some extra homefries after the food arrived as I was eying up our guests and tempted to eat them all.
The service was very pleasant, and despite some minor errors they made it right and even took off some screwed up stuff with a smile.
The only down side is price. For the 5 adults we were over $80 with tip, and while the food was good, it was a tough bill to swallow. I really recommend this place for the post-party morning or pre-football game prep, but otherwise, I will make my own omelettes and home fries and save $60. -

A real local spot where the staff is friendly and will recognize you as a regular after a few visits. It's just good old fashioned breakfast food with plenty of rotating specials with some extra flair. The lines really start to form on the weekends, and it's no wonder people stick around for 30 min on a Saturday morning just for some breakfast.
They just moved from farther up the street, so there was some growing pains for a while, but now that the staff has grown to match and they have service figured out, it's a great place to sit down for a cup of coffee, fresh squeezed OJ and some steak and eggs, or the eggs benny, or the apple cinnamon pancakes, or creamed chip beef over fresh challa bread, or any of the other things that I am suddenly craving off of their menu. -

This place is wonderful for breakfast. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable and the staff is very friendly. For whatever reason, their floors are VERY slippery so be careful, even with sneakers on. I asked about it and they acknowledged the slipperiness and hypothesized that it may be a cleaning agent.
Their menu is wonderful, fresh, and innovative. I love their Backpacker...and medley of vegetables, cheese, and eggs served in a small cast iron skillet that is sizzling when it reaches the table. I would caution, though, that their chipped beef is full of pieces of smoked ham and it is very salty. I prefer my chipped beef with beef. Their presentations are beautiful...and their breakfast potatoes are incredible! They are also huge supporters of our military. Every time I have gone I have had a friend with me in uniform and they were not charged for their breakfast.
I highly recommend this place. -

NOT AT 360 RITCHIE HIGHWAY. FURTHER DOWN AT 522, YOU CANNOT SEE FROM STREET. PULL IN AT BILL BATEMAN'S BISTRO.
Heard about this place on Splendid Table. By the time I got there, having wasted time driving up and down Rt 2 because the old address is still on their website, I was really hungry. It was 12-something on a Sunday, and plenty of tables were open.
Iced tea was served up right away, and when the waitress came by with a refill, she brought a carafe and left it on the table. I then switched to coffee when my food arrived. Their City Dock decaf is wonderful. When it was time for me to leave, the waitress offered to put the iced tea from the carafe into a to-go cup for me. That alone could be worth 5 stars, but I'm only giving 4 because the food was so-so and expensive. While it was filling, it wasn't satisfying, but I think it's because I ordered the wrong dish.
Based on another Yelper's raving, I ordered the chipped beef. The sauce was insipid, no flavor at all, and it arrived cold, making it very unappetizing. Instead of using biscuits, they serve it over thick slices of good quality challah bread. Creative idea, but it didn't work for me because when you slice into the bread with a knife, it gets the consistency that Wonder Bread does when you are making it into little balls to use as fish bait. Not good.
Not being a southerner, I can't claim to be an authority on this dish, but it didn't seem to me that the meat used was anything special or plentiful, but I could be wrong about that. For ten bucks, it seemed like I was paying for potatoes, bread, and some goopey sauce. Not a good value.
However, the home fries were wonderful. I ordered them well done, and they came out nicely browned and crispy. Perhaps this is why the main dish came out cold.
I saw somebody get the apple pancakes, and they looked terrific. Many of the omelets and eggs benedict variations on the menu sounded good. The service was outstanding, so I'll be back! -

We finally got out of bed in time to go to the Breakfast Shoppe. This may not seem like much of a feat, but when you've got two wild carpet primates to herd into clothes and onward into the Miniaturized Caravan, it can consume well over 9 x 10^46 units of Planck time.
We got there ahead of the crowds at about 8:15, which meant there were only a couple of groups ahead of us and we got to stand inside to wait. About 5 minutes later we were seated.
The food was average-to-good, the menu was better. The eggs, though, were pretty much all perfect - they know how to handle eggs back in the kitchen.
The kids menu is unexciting unless they happen to like pancakes or french toast. You can assemble stuff a la carte, but at least stick a waffle or egg/meat option in there directly.
I had the corned beef hash (Hormel, for sure) and eggs (poached, good) with home fries (yum) and toast (white). The wife had the smoked salmon benedict - the salmon was too salty but the hollandaise and eggs were really good.
Not a place to go with a group of more than 4-6 as they simply can't handle a lot of folks, and they get BUSY. By 9, the line was way out the door.
Service is great, if busy, and the ambiance is very cozy.
We'll have to go back, and see if they can get that 4th star. I'm optimistic that they will. -

Hadn't been here in awhile and decided to take the little ladies out for breakfast last week. Admittedly, I was curious to see the new digs too. While I often complained bitterly about the long lines at the old place, I am also kind of a curmudgeon when it comes to change. After entering the main door, bear right for the restaurant and left for City Dock coffee (it's all one restaurant, but I presume that the second door makes it easier for to-go customers).
I am happy to report that the new spot in Park Plaza is more open and has more tables. Fortunately, it hasn't lost the "quaint, local joint" vibe. Service is still prompt and friendly. The oversized mug o'coffee ($2.95) includes free refills. Our waitress even brought me a to-go cup at the end of the meal. Hey, who has time for that second cup when you have two kids in tow?
I usually like to see the specials (have had some great ones), but since the crew is trying to get its bearings at the new place, only regular menu items are available now. I am assured that the LCD screen with the specials will be added back soon. I opted for a straight-up 2-egg breakfast. It included potatoes (not too greasy, not too dry) and toast. Both girls had the smiley face ($4.50)--a generously sized pancake with cherry eyes, a butter nose (a bit excessive, but cute), a peach mouth, and sausage-link ears. Kids' meals, while decently priced, do not include a beverage.
The new location offers high chairs and booster seats. Our waitress mentioned that there is a changing table in the women's room (one was not available in the old location, so this is a definite plus). There is an activity page and crayons for the kids to amuse themselves with while they wait, though it does skew toward the older kids (a maze, word scramble, etc.).
Not sure if I'm up for braving it on the weekend yet, but for a tasty and local weekday breakfast, we'll definitely be back! -

I absolutely love The Breakfast Shoppe. My husband, son and I go there about once a week. We have never had a bad meal there and the service is great. The Sheppards breakfast is bar far the best thing I have ever had. It has fried seasoned tomatoes along with seasoned goat cheese. It is like heaven in your mouth!! The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. One of the managers, I forget his name, is always available and is very friendly. He gave my son a couple extra slices of bacon once just to be nice. I enjoy this place so much and recommend it to everyone. But make sure you get there early! There is always a long wait!

It is at the Breakfast Shoppe that I discovered "the perfect benny." Eggs benedict with sauteed spinach and onions aka heaven in the morning. While, I wouldn't advise you eat hollandaise sauce on a regular basis (wouldn't it be nice though?) the "Perfect Benny" is so addicting you might want to order it several times in a seven day period. The rest of the menu is great as well (try the Backpacker's Pie) but not as extraordinary as their eggs benedict dishes.
The wait on a weekend morning is daunting not matter what time you arrive during their operating hours, but the new location can accommodate patrons better.
All in all, good breakfast and friendly service. -

I like the breakfast shoppe a lot. It's been consistent every time I've gone and I've yet to discover an item on the menu that I disliked. My go-to here is the breakfast sandwich and homefries. There isn't anything spectacular here, just breakfast food executed really well.
The only downside (aside from the crowds) is that it's a bit pricey. i'm not opposed to paying good money for good food, but breakfast for two typically runs us $30 - $40.Listed in: Best Brunch

Perhaps being too hard on them. But French Laundry in Fenton Michigan is my breakfast all-star and this was two notches below their fare.
It is a good place for breakfast as the line out the door shows. Definitely would rate this over any chain experience except of course Original Pancake House - they always rate 4+ stars to me. -

If your looking for a home town spot with a warm welcome, great food, huge variety and friendly staff, proficient service...This is the place to try. This place is very popular with the locals so do not be turned off if you arrive and there is a line out the door. Believe me, ask anyone it is worth the wait.

Great breakfast! Try The Whole Nine Yards. This is my wife's favorite place. The food and service are excellent. I'm not too keen on chain breakfast places, so when we find something that is this good, we go there - A LOT. It's way out of our way, but we still go here regularly. The menu is expansive, the home fries are exceptional, and the french toast is perfect.

This hidden little breakfast shop is located in a strip mall -- it's an unassuming place with something for everyone, and is worth the visit. Because it's a hard-to-find in this neck of the woods, there's usually a wait. Between a party of 6, we ordered eggs & spam (can't go wrong with spam), omelettes, french toast, scrambler (great deal for $11.99 -- you get fresh squeezed OJ, Coffee, Eggs, Bacon or Sausage, toast, pancakes), and a reuben sandwich. It's nice to see a place that not only has variety, but can deliver consistent quality across its different dishes.

Nice decor, friendly folks, good prices, and great food nicely presented. Even mid-morning on a Tuesday it was almost full, so we're not the only ones that like the place. A couple of special orders were even delivered to the table by the young cook. If we lived nearby we'd be regulars.

There are many reasons to love the Breakfast Shoppe, and the food is first and foremost. Let me start with the orange juice. Freshly squeezed right in front of you. Coffee is brought to your table in a carafe, so you don't need to hunt down a waitress for a refill. Not that hunting down a server is ever an issue here. The service is top notch. It can get busy and the wait can be long on weekends, but it is worth it. The servers are friendly and after your first visit, you'll feel like family.
They have wonderful daily specials, and the pumpkin pancakes in the fall are incredible. I look forward to them all year. If you are starving, nothing beats the backpackers pie. Several meats, potatoes, peppers, onions and cheese. It's served in a skillet and can't be beat. For a smaller appetite, they offer a small version called a knapsackers pie. Omelets are gigantic and fluffy. Veggies are never overcooked. The french toast is made from challah bread and is easily 1 1/2 inches thick. You will not leave hungry.
As far as breakfast goes, there is nowhere better in the area. I have to admit that I have never tried lunch, but it looks great and I'm sure those offerings are just as delicious.
There are few places I have eaten without a bad experience of any kind. Breakfast Shoppe is certainly one. It's my first recommendation to newcomers and visitors.
I am drooling just thinking about those pancakes... -

Really, with a name like Breakfast Shoppe how can you go wrong. This was my second time here. I'll set the scene...Sunday morning, very busy. The decor is contemporary and nice. I ordered Challah French Toast with peaches and cream...I received it with strawberries and then found out they were out of peaches...not a good start. My wife got the Eggs Benedict with hash browns. and my daughters got the chocolate chip dollar pancakes and Corn Pops cereal...which is great. I will say the French Toast was delicious though I really wanted the peaches. My wife seemed to enjoy the eggs and hash browns...I had a bite(s) of the hash browns they were nicely seasoned...I could eat a whole order by my self. The bacon was nice and crunchy. Oh my cousin had eggs and grits...which my wife said was very good. My daughter enjoyed the pancakes. Overall the food was good. The service was lacking...they were very polite but the service was slow...I'm not sure if the service is just lame or they were severely understaffed. Either way, it wasn't happy. They did give my daughter's Pops for free because it took so long...but how much is that worth? Not much! I'm on the cusp here. The food was good but the service was slow. I may give it one more try on a day other than Sunday and update you then.

If you haven't been before (or even if you have), take a few minutes to look through the specials on the LCD screen. Some really creative and appetizing twists on regular breakfast food. I had layered challah French toast with almond crusted warm brie, drizzled with honey (it was a special).
I echo some of the earlier comments - I happened to go on a Monday, so there wasn't a line. But my wife and I have tried to go on a weekend, and turned around because of the wait. They are moving to a larger space later this year (the Park Place shopping center, between Ledo's and the Annapolis Seafood Market). From what I heard during my visit, the number of seats will double, so hopefully they will be able to keep the lines short. Also, I do think the prices are a little expensive, but with chain restaurants being the primary alternative in the area, I don't mind paying a little bit more for the individuality. -
Review from Jim P.
Pasadena, MD
Disappointed, really, after reading and hearing many good reviews, and having found the place crowded with a line out the door each time we went by...
Pros: Fresh food, friendly, capable staff (but, really, how hard is breakfast service?), menu that shows effort beyond the normal boring options.
Cons: Expensive for the quality of the meal, the wait can be long and cramped. Free tip from a better little place back in SF: Put some benches and a cart outside with free coffee and newspapers to help people kill time.
Overall, nice enough place, well decorated (though the out of place LCD screen is odd... win that in a raffle or something?). Menu is thorough and lengthy. Service is very, very nice. Coffee is hit-or-miss -- one pot was hot and well brewed, not super strong but not bad and better than most; unfortunately, the second pot was burned. Service was friendly and capable... but pacing was odd and food seemed to take a while to come out... explains the wait?
Really, they might have even earned four stars, but the Eggs Benedict was woefully disappointing: They go to great lengths regarding their versions of this dish, including many variations and dedicating an entire menu page to its debated origins, etc. Then, what I was served completely missed the point. The point of Eggs Benedict is the hollandaise. There should be a lot of it -- it should not be parsimoniously doled out on top of, and only, precisely, on top of, each egg. Setting aside the fact that the eggs were seriously overcooked and the smoked salmon was either a very, very poor choice of style or left-out-since-last-week-in-a-tub-of-salt (really, not very good at all, to the point that I wondered if it was spoiled or otherwise a mistake... and I eat a *lot* of different, sometimes very strong, smoked fish. It completely destroyed any opportunity to taste / appreciate the hollandaise where a more gentle, fresher-tasting option would have made it fantastic), the ridiculously small amount of sauce cost this place one (if not two) stars.
Some unusual options, all pretty competently made, but nothing extraordinary that would justify the extraordinary-at-most-times wait or the higher-than-typical price tag. Good, I guess, but likely won't be back.
