My wife and I were on vacation and I am always on the search for greasy spoon diners and I end up in Georgia at this place and the owner is from Chicago too!! Awesome breakfast.

Savannah, GA
Yeah, it's always a little nerve wracking to ding a place that is an institution. However, ding it is.
Let me start by saying I've lived in Savannah for over 10 years, 4 of them on Tybee - so I know the place. This isn't a one-off review; I've tried BC a number of times and a number of times I've been just underwhelmed. Many times we have visitors who've heard of the BC and want to make it a destination eat. So, ok, we make a trek here. However, breakfast at the BC is now going to fall off any "must-eat" places.
The food isn't bad - it's just meh. We've sampled much of the menu - omelettes (of which there's a huge variety), waffles, eggs, etc. And it all is pretty over-salted and nothing particularly special. The atmosphere is as you've heard - lots and lots of locals/Tybee characters, making for great people-watching - but your standard variety diner-ish place, including the feeling that everything is a bit greasy. And if a review doesn't include the prices it's not giving you the whole picture. It's nearly impossible to get out of here for under $30-35 for two with tip... for breakfast. Charge me an extra $1.25 for hash browns instead of grits, and they're right out of the frozen bag? C'mon. The prices would be steep anywhere, but for breakfast - here- it's a little ridic. -

Neat little restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Don't go on a day with bad weather cause you have to wait outside to be seated. Steak and eggs were good, cooked to order. Price a tad high but still reasonable.

I know a lot of people like this place. It was ok for me. Not a huge crappy eater. Had to send my grits back twice, still had butter on them. Gag!!

My Russian friend and I were in Savannah for a conference and had free time on Sunday morning. The taxi driver dropped us off at the Breakfast Club, highly recommending the grits. We waited just a few minutes in line and then took two seats at the bar. What a TREAT! Three hunks were standing in front of us working the grill. It was fun to watch for many reasons...the assembly line is truly amazing. Each omelet gets its own bowl of fresh veggies or cheese delivered by someone in the kitchen. My omelet was easily the best I've every had--something about the spices and sausage...and my friend really loved the grits she was eating for the first time in her life. Thank you!

The Breakfast Club is a Savannah institution made famous by JFK Junior and their multiple Southern Living features. My family has enjoyed many a Sunday breakfast here and has learned that there is always a line, it's something you just can't avoid. I highly recommend arriving early so you don't have to wait in line too long.
I love their omelets, my mom loves their Pecan Waffle and bacon, and my dad loves their Blackhawk Burrito. The prices are very reasonable and the coffee is refilled multiple times during your meal for free!
If you're a local or a tourist, I highly recommend you try the Breakfast Club! -
Review from Liz V.
I love watching tourists bypass the line wrapping the building and walk right in. There is no hostess, there is an order to the chaos and if the crowd is rowdy enough you will get harassed for cutting!
I've taken several people here and while it looks like a dive from the outside, the mini novel menu and ambience make up for it. No matter where you sit you're a part of the show. I am a huge fan of watching someone cook my food and this place literally gives you front row seats to the grill. Locals line up at the bar and families take over the booths. Even if I eat alone, there is always someone to talk to.
My weakness is their weekend spinach eggs florentine. Why weekend? They only serve their homemade hollandaise on weekends and even if you're on a diet, it's worth cheating for. A slab of thick toast is the base, 2 runny over medium eggs, a huge helping of spinach that would make Popeye blush, canadian ham (my choice) and a flood of hollandaise to wrap it all up. The side of home fries make excellent lifeguards if you need to sop up the sauce. I've had their omlettes, pancakes, French toast and egg sandwiches but nothing is the Benedict.
If you're looking for a relaxing breakfast place or even a quick bite, you have to check out this place. Just don't forget to pay your meter out front! -

Went here a few days before this review being written. It friggin awesome. This was approaching the "breakfast of champions". The ingredients in my scrambled eggs tasted very fresh including the eggs themselves. I had chorizo meat with my eggs and home fries. Frizzy-frizzesh. The meat was awesome, tasted like it was crafted from scratch. i wish the portions were a little bigger (I'm slender and eat plenty); moarrrr meat!
Thumbs up to the folks here. Great service - I nicknamed our waiter, the waiter ninja, he was there again before you even knew he left. -

The place is a dive and the prices are high but the portions are huge and the food is surprisingly good. I has eggs florentine with an enormous pile of fresh spinach and good grits. The poached eggs were cooked too hard for my liking though. If you like them runny maybe request it. They are a busy place so get there early and get in line.

I stayed at a friend's beach house on Tybee and he recommended Breakfast Club for breakfast. My partner and a friend of ours walked to rent some scooters one morning and decided it wasn't a better time to check this place out. We got on our freshly rented scooters, zipped around the back roads for a few to get acclimated and pulled right up to Breakfast Club. We parked on the grass like badasses, faces adorned with sunglasses and made our way to the entrance, but wait...it was a bit hard to find. No biggie, we're smart guys! The entrance is on the side and not the front facing the main road. Duh!
Once we found our way inside, we were promptly seated by a window--always good! There were plenty of patrons both local and tourists, but that's secondary. The décor is minimal; I guess the food speaks for itself here. We got situated before a waitress came over to take our order and answer whatever questions we had. The menu is mostly standard for a breakfast joint except for one thing--no pancakes! Well, they serve pancakes, but only on Christmas and Easter(?). They're closed on those dates by the way! Anyhow, there's a great selection of omelettes and combination plates to choose from.
We ordered our respective juices and coffees before placing our breakfast order. Two low-country omelettes and a Helen's Solidarity; all with grits! Let me say this: the food here is cooked in the way any fat kid in his right mind would want his breakfast cooked. Everything was fantastic! The grits alone is worth the muster to come here on a busy morning. They're not stiff and crunchy like most places that I've had grits, but rather creamy and bordering on runny much like proper risotto is runny. The ingredients are fresh and treated with respect. I know, this is just breakfast, but it's a pretty damn good breakfast coming from someone that favors late day fare as a first meal.
Our waitress was as attentive as she needed to be. Coffees were filled, she checked on us once or twice throughout which was enough--I hate it when a waiter is always in your face which is a buzz-kill for the meal.
We were mighty satisfied. So much so that we all expressed how great of an idea it was that we rented scooters before coming here because God knows we weren't ready to walk it off. If you want a hot, proper breakfast in Tybee or even the surrounding Savannah area, Breakfast Club is a must! -

My husband and I drove by Breakfast Club upon our arrival on Tybee Island and joked about what a dump it looked like. The next day, we saw a line around the building and thought maybe we were missing something.
We went and waited in the fast moving line the next morning and were sold. It is not the fanciest place, to say the least, but what it is lacking for in decor, it makes up for with the food. We went back the next day, too.
We both agreed that the best thing was the Blackhawk Burrito, delicious breakfast burrito with salsa and black beans. The omelet I tried was also very good as were the grits. My husband had the pecan waffle and he said it was great.
The staff is very friendly and on the ball. The atmosphere is somewhat hectic and a little loud at times. The prices are pretty average. -

Well we decided to eat breakfast out this morning, since we are on vacation and did not feel like cooking again! The staff is friendly but a lil off putting at first! Was greeted at front door and asked if we wanted a booth or table, was told the area with booths were a lil cooler, but was well worth it! Full view of the cook line! Love to watch the line cooks work their magic. Asked the server what was good, she replied everything! So I asked what did the locals like? She replied a little of everything! Well I could tell she wasn't gonna help any, but she did reply maybe you should have the PMS omelette, I guess I deserved that one! (and yes they have an omelette of that name) I decided on the solidarity scramble which was very good. My partner got the build your own scramble, both came with grits and choice of toast! Not often do you find grits that are perfect and no need of anything extra, These were perfect! A lil pricey for breakfast, but well worth it!

This is one of those places I hope never changes. It has such a local charm. It is very rough around the edges and some might be put off by that. Don't be! We were very lucky to get a table as soon as we walked in it was around 10:30am on a Wednesday in March. I hear that you can wait as long as an hour or two on most days. After reading some reviews on Yelp we asked to sit at the counter, this is where the fun begins. You get to watch the chefs work at the grill. That alone is amazing. We had the best server!! She was just like the place, a little rough around the edges but with so much southern charm you felt like you knew her your whole life. We had some locals sit next to us. More great people, they come just about every day and gave us some of the best advice about the island. Again a little rough but after an hour we were all best friends. It is a place were you can loose track of time, we did, and ended up closing the place at 1:00pm. (Hours: 7am - 1pm) just talking and enjoying our time with some of the finest people in the south. Oh, as an extra bonus you can leave beer money and once you do the show starts, bells, whistles and a big round a applause as the money goes in a special jar. Now for the food... I had the best omelets I have ever had and my fiancé had the Windjammer hash browns that she said was the best breakfast food she has ever had. If you have a chance to get to the Breakfast Club please go, you will not be disappointed, but save us a seat at the counter we're coming back!

Goodbye diet, hello homemade chorizo. We stumbled over here one morning from our condo and found this delicious little gem. Sure the line was out the door, but you can't wait inside anyway, so really, out the door is just...well, normal.
The waitstaff isn't really in a hurry, but they keep your coffee full and keep it coming. And the food, my lord the food. I had a delicious breakfast sandwich with their homemade sausage and oozing with cheese. Their grits were delicious (as they should be in the south) and my fiance plowed through his breakfast so fast I didn't even get a chance to sample it. My parents came here the next day and raved about it all day long as well. Totally delicious breakfast, would DEFINITELY eat here again. No matter the wait. -

This place reminded me of the words to a Ditty Bops song "We'll have progies at our favorite cafe. The waitresses are grumpy and their English ain't so great."
We had breakfast here twice in the week we were vacationing on Tybee. We were staying close enough to walk, and got there just in time to beat the line. The servers were either really soup-nazi, or really nice. And they move the food.
Crazy atmosphere, like you're in the house of a friend. A messy, loud friend.
Enough though. The food was super. Very good. Pecan waffle one day, veggie omelet the next. Sauteed spinach was tasty - so were the the grits, and the best bacon ever. They serve it up fast, and keep your coffee cup full.
Its part of the Tybee experience. Go at least once. -

Word to the wise after reading a few reviews and talking to a couple in line...you wait OUTSIDE the restaurant door and someone will come out to ask how many are in your party and seat you. We got there on a Tuesday morning around 9 and there were already a couple of people waiting. When we left an hour later, the line was much longer already. So definitely the earlier the better. The prices are reasonable (about as much as a breakfast place in the Chicago area), and the coffee was plentiful. I care less how friendly the staff are, but more importantly how quickly they bring my food, and how often they refill my coffee cup. Everyone was friendly, and different people stopped by to bring coffee at regular intervals even though it was pretty busy.
I ordered eggs over medium with the homemade sausage. It had a little kick to it and was more like a little burger patty. Very unexpected and delicious. No links for this place. The eggs were cooked just as I ordered. The pecan waffles they are apparently known for were also very good. The pecan waffle-eater commented that the syrup is not too sugary sweet, so you won't get the too much sugar stomach-ache. I tried a bite and I would have to agree. They do butter everything (including the grits, waffles and toast) so if you are watching your waistline or don't like a lot of butter, be sure to tell them to put it on the side. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. -

This is absolutely the place to go for breakfast. Don't even give it a second thought! However, be warned that you must wait outside, in line, with all members of your party present before you can get a table. They do not tell you this on their website and their sign on the door is very basic, so that is why I am telling you this straight up.
Food is excellent, you can't go wrong...we went everyday for hopefully obvious reasons! :-)
You can always give that other place a try just for variety's sake or if waiting outside just isn't your thing...but we all know this is the number 1 place for breakfast on Tybee! -
Review from Ben B.
The Breakfast Club had the best breakfast food I have ever eaten. The prices are very reasonable and the staff was very friendly. Omlets seem to be their "go to dish". I had the waffle which was spot on and so was the french toast! my only recommendation would be to get the home fries over the hash browns. Not because the hash browns are not tasty, but the home fries are straight delicious.

Review from Devon O.
Get there early or you will wait in line. Actually, you will wait in line everywhere on Tybee, so I guess just prepare yourself for that now.
The menu is wordy and a little self-congratulatory. "The chef loves his staff dearly while working them to the bone....the chef helped cater JFK jrs wedding reception.....the chef sometimes spends his early morning moments alone reflecting on the greatness of his life....ok, dude, we get it. It's breakfast, yo.
Everything is coated in a salty golden sheen of clarified butter. They do undignified, outrageous, dirty, dirty things to vegetables. The hashbrowns shame any other potato product I've ever put in my mouth. If you take a chaste approach to grease, get ready for the stomachache. You might feel guilty later, but shhhh. Just go with it.
One visit will be enough. Just one time and we don't have to tell anyone.Listed in: Kids are cool.

I typically don't review diners, because I'm seldom entertained by dull-witted xeroxed jokes taped to the wall or surly tattooed waitresses suffering with a smoker's cough. But, the Breakfast Club is exceptional. This place serves up some SERIOUSLY good grub.
Anyone who knows me well knows that I'm a Child-of-the-South with zero-tolerance for less-than-authentic southern food. Hence, it is truly difficult to ring my bell with a grits-based dish. But, the BC put shrimp grits and sunny side up eggs on my plate that shamed my grandmother's fare. I'm talkin' fresh PERFECTLY cooked shrimp on a dollop of white hominy grits, with greaseless sunny sides - nary a lace on the whites.
This place is the real-deal. Nothin' but breakfast ... closes at noon. My highest marks for quality. -

"(Dum-duum) Hey Hey Hey Hey....oooooooowoooooooohhhh! Don't you!!! Forget about me! (Dah-Dum)...don't don't don't don't....Don't you!! Forget about me!!! As you walk on by!! Would you call my name!!!"
By far one of the best breakfast places that I have ever had the pleasure of dining at in Tybee, and until I am find somewhere better, the world. The Tybee locals almost seem to try and keep this place a secret. Individuals who visit the island from out of town should consider themselves lucky they even knew about the place. The only reason I really knew about the Breakfast Club is because I was a student at Georgia Southern so I knew some kids who grew up around the area.
The place has minor similarities to a waffle house only because they cook the food right in you if you sit by the window facing the buildings across the street; however, the vibe in this place and the way they have the interior decorated remind customers that they are eating at a historic breakfast hole in the wall. The walls are covered with various signed photos from all of their special guests from Hollywood, music, and professional sports that have stopped by the breakfast diner.
My personal favorite menu item was the Philly cheese-steak omelet. Sounds like a bad combination at first, but it is one of the best omeletes I have ever had the pleasure of feasting upon. -

Went here for breakfast after reading all the good reviews. Have to say that I wasn't overly impressed. Got there before 8:00am on a Monday morning and they were pretty slammed. Super popular joint. I kept it simple with eggs and sausage. Seems that they make their own sausage. Tasted like a combination of an Italian sausage and a breakfast sausage. It was tasty, and probably the highlight of the meal for me. The rest of it was just average. Nothing really to get excited over. Wife wanted pancakes and was surprised not to see them on the menu.
But it was an interesting little place, and it hit the spot. But five stars? Nah. -

I liked it. I came here this morning before hitting the beach. The food was well done, I had Steak and Eggs. Note: do not order med-rare when eating cheap steak, is all Blubber and it is hard to cut! The eggs were fantastic and so were the tatos! OJ was delicious and service impeccable. They serve everything on the menu at all times, they close at 1 p.m.
Pay at counter, which is a tight spot! -
Review from Destin D.
As soon as we parked, we knew we were in for a treat. Even on a cold November morning, the place was packed and the line waiting for tables was out the door. And wow, the food was definitely worth the wait.
I had Helen's Solidarity, which contained a scramble of potatoes, eggs, kielbasa, peppers and onions topped with monterrey jack and American cheese. Grits and toast were served on the side. The portion was huge and every bite was delicious.
The breakfast burrito was also outstanding. The fresh salsa on the side made this over the top. There's just something about chorizo, black beans, and eggs that makes them taste so well together.
The staff was also friendly and attentive despite the busy Sunday crowd. The menu had a lot of different options, so there's definitely something for everyone. Anyone staying or visiting Tybee Island definitely needs to stop by the Breakfast Club for a delicious meal. -

This place is horrible. The food is overly greasy and the service is slow.
How it attained such a "cult" status I have no idea. Maybe being such a lonely member of the Tybee Island breakfast restaurant club? It is probably more so its self proclaimed title of being great.
We are generally healthy eaters...if this describes you - RUN AWAY! This is not the restaurant for you.
If on the other hand you are like typical Americans and cholesterol is not part of your vernacular - enjoy! That is of course assuming you don't like quality food.
I wish I had heard/seen the Sunshine Restaurant prior.... -

There's certainly a reason why there's a line out the door here - it's GOOD. Everything is prepared fresh and the staff is in no rush to get you out the door to ease up the line, which is nice to not feel like everything is running 100mph. It's a casual spot that serves up one hell of an omelette!
Highly recommend coming here but arriving early. When they say they close at 1, they mean it! Don't miss out on this spectacular breakfast spot in the middle of it all on the island. -

Savannah, GA
Let me start by saying the food was excellent. If I was rating our experience just on the food, it would be 5 stars. Alas, a culinary experience involves much more. We had just run the tybee 5k, and we were hungry and soaked from the rain. We were seated quickly, as there wasn't much of a line. Soon after being seated we were told by our waitress that we needed to order quickly because of all the others waiting to be seated. At this point there was no one waiting to be seated. I hate being rushed, and felt this was very unprofessional.

This place was definitely good, but, not worth 5 stars by any means. The inside of the menu boasts how the chef is classically trained at the Culinary Institute (or something like that) and that he assisted in the catering of JFK's wedding etc... I was really expecting to have my socks knocked off! Like I said, it was good, but there was nothing that creative or memorable about the menu at all. We went there twice during our stay. Good food, friendly attentive service and reasonable prices. There's also not that much competition on the island, so, I'd definitely go back but, I wouldn't wait in a long line.

This is HANDS DOWN the best stick-to-your-ribs, down and dirty-country fresh breakfast I have EVER had! There was 6 of us on a road trip on the quest to find the best BEST breakfast in Georgia and what do you know its in tybee Island!!!! We had shrimp and grits(butter, shrimp, egg, toast NO WORDS for the party in my mouth!!!), pecan waffles(crispy, sugary, fluffy melt in your mouth mmmm-mmm good!!!), breakfast burritos perfectly HUGE and OUTRAGEOUS, omelette's SMOTHERED with cheese and each plate was better than the last!!!! This is what heaven tastes like, I am SURE of it.

This place (at least in off season) is terrific. The Lo-Country omelet is quite possible the best omelet I have ever had; my wife loved the PMS omelet. Coffee was good and staff was friendly. It was all I expected and more. No, it's not healthy - it's cholesterol hell, and I loved it all. I hear there is a line much of the time, but I would stand in one for 30 minutes!

We had to wait a long time for a table...however it was worth the wait. I got the eggs flo II and it was AMAZING!!!! It was fresh spinach over crispy English muffins a poached egg and delish hollandaise sauce. Wow it was a party in your mouth every bite. The sausage was a must get as well. The only thing that could have made this meal better was bottomless mimosas! Must eat here!

An awesome place for breakfast! If you can, sit at the bar so you can watch the action in the kitchen. It's amazing watching the food being prepped - those guys are on fire! I stick with the pecan waffle but I don't think you can really go wrong with anything here. Portions are plentiful (as are the calories), but the price is right. Get there early to avoid a line.
