Tuckahoe, NY
I have been wanting to try Bread for a few weeks now, so a friend and I decided to check it out before a show we were seeing a few blocks away. We went for an early dinner and got the zucchini souffle, i got the four cheese pasta, and she ordered the pesto linguine. The area is very cute, we were sitting in the front but were surprised to see how roomy it got when you walked further in.
It was a good meal. The souffle was a bit too heavy and the flavor was a little weird- so I won't be getting that again.
The pastas were amazing, mine was crazy salty- but it did have speck. I loved every bite. My friends linguine was also really good, a classic pesto sauce.
I'll definitely be coming back for a sandwich and dessert - I don't want to miss out on those nutella tartines! -
Review from Jane K.
While bread is not something most New Yorkers in SoHo dare consume, this Bread is a hotbed of good-looking, well dressed carb mongers. And even if they aren't indulging in the fluffy, crispy on the outside stuff that they serve out complimentary on each table, few can resist the delicious salads and simple fresh med entrees here.
The design is simple and open, with intimate winding rooms with a narrow middle and seating and bars in the front and back. Service was alright but not particularly attentive, though for a nice relaxed weekend lunch or brunch there's really no rush. Their breakfast menu is brief and lunch is where they really shine. Standouts were the avocado salad, fresh mozzarella sandwich and the side of rosemary potatoes.
It's a refreshingly pretty place to dine in SoHo and while the food and service are flatly fine, the complete package leaves me smiling -- and not a little carbed up. -

Music. Candlelight. Trendy, but calm atmosphere. Long aromatic baguettes sit in vases on the bar.
They sat me at the bar since I was alone. I ordered the shrimp and avocado salad. While I waited, I took in the rest of the menu and put items on my "to-do" list. The salad included asparagus and a yummy house dressing.
The restaurant filled up while I was there, and many walked in amd ordered carryout.
Amazing menu. Delicious food. I would go back, -

Ok, ok, ok so I only tried the meatballs, but these were probably the best I have ever had. They were soft, melt in your mouth flavorful and tender. It's served with a delicious tomato sauce and potatoes. Literally it's a meat and potatoes kinda dish. But looking at the menu I see that they offer a gluten free version of the pasta dishes. Thats great for folks with a gluten intolerance. I will be coming back to try some different dishes. Service is good and attentive, the atmosphere is very Soho, in other words, minimalist design heavy. BUT an all around good spot.....if you like meatballs.

I came here on Thursday with my husband and 2 friends.
We ordered salad (with something like risotto), fried calamari, and baked potato for appetizer.
The baked potato was really really good. The dishes were hot and delicious.
We also opened a wine Barbera d'Alba, Superiore, Pace.
Great combination!!!!
The entree I got was fresh linguine with pesto.
Very light!
The lasagna and beef were good.
The best was the steak!!!! Really really good~
But it's a little it salty for me.
Anyway, nice restaurant, good service, and great atmosphere!!!! -

Came here for a friends birthday dinner.
They had a set menu for us for about $35 each.
We shared appetizers which included: calamari, a form of couscous (didn't try it), tomato and cheese and arugula salad. All appetizers were good.
My main dish was the meat balls, apparently they are well known for it. Mine came out kind of cold. The sauce was awesome and the potatoes were great but the meat balls were not that great.
They have an ok selection of wine. They don't have Cabernet by glass so I had Shiraz instead. -

Would I eat here again? The answer is very much yes. Yes, I certainly would.
Bread is the kind of spot that makes Soho, Soho. A gem you'd stumble upon completely by accident.
Don't let the name prejudice your appetite, the menu encompasses a menagerie of non-carbohydrate options. You can't go wrong with the strip steak, boy was it tasty, and it paired quite nicely with an inexpensive Pinot on the menu. (Really, my only qualm with Bread is that I'm constantly asked for ID, while the rest of my party is not subjected to the embarrassment... Le sigh, our server tells me it's "a compliment".)
Bread Nolita, I'll be back; pull some tables together, it'll be a crowd. -

Ding ding! We have a winner.
I have been here about one dozen times. The food delicious, and the service is outstanding.
I was sparked to write this review after going here for my friend's birthday dinner. We were a group of 6, and our waitress, Vanessa, was amazing. The evening not only ended with free desserts and complimentary champagne - but also with a reasonably priced check!
Put this place on your 'must' list. -
Review from Bryant R.
The food at Bread is good and fairly priced. It's a nice experience for the money and it is a solid choice for groups. The service is probably mediocre but that doesn't detract from the experience, given the prices. It's good for weekend and weekday nights and is a nice refuge during the day.

I went here with my boyfriend last weekend and we had a delicious eggplant parm and one of the fish entries. The broccolini was very tasty too. It was satisfying, but last time I was here in August '11 this place is wall-to-wall jerks trying to be trendy and coy with flouncy camisoles, cut off jean shorts, and a closet obsession with Kate Moss (REally- who doesn't have that. I basically just described what I looked like then, only I hope I come across as less of a pretencious arse)

As always, Bread was fantastic. Love the wine selections. Love the tomato soup! Pastas were great. The atmosphere for dinner is very fun. Definitely a Euro crowd.
I think Epistrophy has better paninis & is frankly better- they are on Mott between Spring & Broome, but cash only. -

Review is for brunch only. I really enjoyed my experience at Bread. The space is huge - initially I thought that the only seating was in the front and that we'd have to wait forever for a four-top. We did have to wait but we waited in the back at a "coffee table" area near the 2nd bar. With Bloody Mary's in hand, it was quite enjoyable.
We eventually got a table (maybe 30 minutes after arriving) and service was a bit far between but the food was delicious and the company fantastic! I'd definitely add this to my short list of brunch places. -

This place is so cute! I went their with a girlfriend the other day and I'm not going to lie, I was secretly planning my imaginary date! Everything about this place screams NYC: from it's subway-style space, to rustic/vintage decor, to selection of wines proudly displayed above the bar, to a private nook in the back for privacy.
The food is in it's name: bread! Bread offers a large selection of paninis made with thier personal touch - they add a lot of fruits and cheeses, which are amazing! The bar is pretty stocked and the took a stab a creating their own cocktails - my friend tried a cucumber one and to my surprise it tasted pretty good.
Overall, a definitely a must to visit! -
Review from Alison C.
As I always say, bread is one of my weaknesses, and this cafe of the same name did not disappoint. My company decided to order lunch from here one afternoon, and we were delighted by the quick delivery time.
My "Special Salad" was a hefty blend of mesclun greens, cherry tomatoes, olives, fennel, sicilian tuna, and avocado. I ordered their house dressing on the side, but wound up foregoing what seemed like ordinary olive oil anyway. Moisture was added to the simple, mayo-less tuna chunks via a seasoned olive oil marinade. Each of the salad's vegetable components was extremely fresh, and I added a clementine to the mix for a delightful acidic sweetness.
This charming cafe also provided complimentary ciabatta slices of bread on the side, which were moist and doughy. My Mint Ice Tea, however, had an odd floral taste and was extremely watered down.
Despite this minor flaw, we were pleasantly surprised by our new delivery option. Bread was immediately added into our lunch rotation, proving once again just how satisfying crusty, doughy goodness could really be...yum! -

When I find myself with a little black rain cloud over my head, it's time to call Bread.
The lunch combo (About $11 I believe) comes with the famous tomato soup (thick and rich but not too creamy), a half sandwich, a side of mixed greens with the house vinaigrette, and a little baggy of extra bread for dunking. I usually order the Fontina sandwich which includes arugula and sun dried tomatoes.
The sandwich satisfies my grown-up palette, the soup comforts my inner-child, and the beautiful-people clientele awakens my teenage insecurities.
...that's why I stick to take out ;) -
Review from Julia D.
Fantastic atmosphere; it's really all you could want for a romantic date, catching up with a friend, or a solo dinner or drink at the bar. The place definitely attracts a cute and trendy crowd, though I wouldn't call it eclectic.
The bread is notably good, although it wasn't served warm, much to my chagrin, but that's more a personal preference. I guess if you like warm bread as much as you like rolling around in hot laundry, you will be somewhat disappointed. As for the food itself, my friend and I got the fried calamari to split, which was delicious, and I followed it up with the avocado salad. The avocado salad looked delicious, but was overpriced for what it was considering the avocado was a little under-ripe, and it's just greens, some onion and tomato, and a single avocado for $14. C'mon man!
My friend ended up going with one of the Prosciutto breads, which looked pretty good, especially on the crispy and rustic-looking bread, although the prosciutto looked a lot more like turkey.
Overall a decent spot to go to for dinner, but you definitely get more out of the atmosphere than the food. -

I would give this place a 3-4 star for the atmosphere, vibe and service but the food was nothing spectacular. I didn't try their salads (which they had a more than norm variation of) since I was in a carb mood. For a place named "bread" their breads weren't good, I've had much better bread at Cosi and Panera...heck even Outback and Cheesecake Factory has better table bread. I ordered a pizzetta that I was very disappointed in. The bread of this mini pizza was terrible, it was cold and tasted like it was taken out of a prepacked bag and microwaved. I ended up just eating the table bread instead. Will not be back.

Good spot for some pasta and other dishes.
Meatballs = very good although one and only one was cold in the center... not sure how they prepare them.. maybe in mass and reheat? nonetheless, they were good!
Penne with speck in a creamy sauce was very good too... and of course, one of the best parts about Bread is...drum roll please... The Bread!
Note: the white sangria was nothing to tweet about... light, with orange chunks and no distinct flavors... cold with a mild hint of liquor in it...
Maybe the red sangria is better? -

I first went to Bread about three years ago... A friend of mine was having her birthday dinner there. Upon walking in, the noise was a bit jarring; they were blasting Marvin Gaye, and couldn't seem to hear myself think. But the smell lured me in. The site of Meatballs, a beet goat cheese salad, pasta, copious amounts of bread, Sangria, made me realize I was in for a real treat. The staff was also quite friendly, seemed happy to be working there and were quick to make conversation with patrons.
When I sat down, the noise subsided a bit... Biting into my savory meatballs, I thought to myself, I'm definitely coming back here. Soon after my first visit, I went to Bread Tribeca. My experience there was by no means anything close to my experience at Bread Nolita. the menu is completely different, and the environment is not nearly as warm and welcoming.
Regardless, Bread is highly recommended.... maybe not a place to take your date, unless you didn't want to hear them. -
Review from Katie T.
Cute decor. But only mediocre food. I tried the highly recommended octopus salad plate, it was so bland. Fresh, but bland. I kept adding salt - it didnt help...
Though I would give a shout-out for their service. I went there with a group of 8 for my friends birthday. FIrst of all, they have a nice secluded area to fit just a long table. So it gives a nice environment for a party. Second, they actually gave up 3 desserts on the house for my friend's birthday. That's pretty generous of them. -
Review from Joey P K.
The "breads" (sandwiches) are kinda smallish, about half of what I was expecting for the price. But quite tasty, I have to admit.
The salads are decent. My favorite is the Shrimp Salad. Something about the accompanying lemon dressing really elevates it.
I'll be back for more. -

This is a 3.5 star review, but I'm feeling generous and rounding up. The location is prime, atmosphere is trendy/romantic (sometimes a hard balance to achieve) and prices are very very reasonable. The not so great part is that were sitting down for over ten minutes before anyone even acknowledged us or brought us menus. It seemed like there was one waitress for the whole place and she was a little overhwhelmed. My friend's tomato soup was a little on the salty side but her shrimp salad was pretty good. My linguini w/ pesto and asparagus was actually amazing, if not a little on the creamy side. The bread and olive oil/vinegar was delicious also.
I'm not sure if I would bring a date here because while the lighting is nice and dim, the place didn't have the quiet romantic vibe--although I hear it is more so towards the back, and I was sitting in the front. Perfect for a place to catch up with girlfriends though and I hear it's great for brunch too....so I'm adding it to the rotation. Can't beat the price for this location, so definitely worth checking out! -

We had a fantastic time here!
Forgive my outdated term, but Bread is a happening place. It's dimly lit, the crowd is young and hip, and the food? Well, let's just say I didn't talk much during dinner because I was stuffing my face with delicious carbs.
My friend and I shared a plate of tortellini and goat cheese sandwich. Mmmm, incredible. The sangria was great, too. The food is a little expensive here, but nothing outrageous, and the waiters were super friendly. We even got a free dessert on the house.
I can definitely see this as a date spot, a place to linger for drinks or, if you're like us, a group of four famished out-of-towners looking for a trendy restaurant to visit. -

Night one in three day weekend of starting at the bar to wait for a table but remaining there because the vibe is so right. The Wife and I split a bowl of olives, the Cutting Board, and an Arugula Salad with shaved parmigiano reggiano. Coming from a town full of farmland, it blows my mind that the tastiest and freshest food is found in the heart of the city.
Our bartender was friendly and attentive (and beautiful). The manager checked in throughout the evening and thanked us for coming at the end of the meal. Overall a relaxing and romantic evening. -

A friend and I stopped by during our lunch break. Cute little space and very attentive waitress. We both ordered paninis. I had the sardine, my friend had the goat cheese and mushroom, we both agreed that the paninis were delicious. The side salad was okay, the dressing a little vinegary in my opinion. We shared a plate of french fries which were hot and crispy, sprinkled with herbs and cheese. Definitely a cute place to have a delicious lunch.

I loved the atmosphere of Bread (casual, a little trendy), but the food left something to be desired.
My date and I ordered the mozzarella bread to share, then each got different entrees. The "bread", which could also be described as a panini, was something that I could have made at home. Ciabatta, mozzarella, tomato, basil. It was good, but not worth going out for. I ordered the crispy polenta for an entree, and was pretty disappointed. It was essentially a circular piece of polenta with a few tasteless mushrooms and some melted cheese on top. Meh.
In addition to the atmosphere which I enjoyed (maybe I just ordered the wrong things), my date really enjoyed his skirt steak. I'd probably try Bread again, but would definitely try something different next time around. -
Review from Jaime H.
I cannot say enough about Bread. It has it all: location, menu, affordability, fun music, quick service, trendy (NOT pretentious), and versatility.
The restaurant is much larger than it appears to be on the outside. I walked by thinking the outside was adorable and that it would be a tiny hideaway but instead its this huge space! They have a bar in front and one in back. There are private rooms for parties too.
Every dish I tried exceeded my expectations -- completely delicious across the board! I had the octopus salad (which I was dreading honestly) and it was outstanding! It's covered in an excellent marinara sauce and is delicious on top of the bread they provide. I also got the meatballs - SO tender and well prepared; the olive tapenade crostini - amazing; the mozzarella salad w. ripe juicy tomatoes; arugala salad; and pesto pasta. I split this all with another person and we were too stuffed to even touch the pasta. (It became my lunch for the next two days) The meal was one of my favorites I've had in the city.
The appetizers and entrees have large portions that are perfect for sharing and the price is very affordable! Appetizers range at $6-8; Entrees at $14-$15; wine $7 a glass; dessert $6.
Our bartender/waitress was so attentive and refilled our wine glasses often. Our food came out promptly and at the end they even gave us a free tiramisu!
I will DEFINITELY be coming back...I see a birthday party here in the future. -

Service was good and fast. Food cam out right away, was a but on the expensive side. And when I asked for a refill on my coffee, they gave me an ugly look, refilled the cup about half way, then charged me another $2 for a refill....BLECH!

Walked over the other night with a friend after a couple of happy hour drinks.
Atmosphere - Dimly lit, romantic (towards the back), huge open doors/windows for a nice breeze (in the front), unpretentious. I was surprised, given its location.
Service - FAST. Lightening fast. We sat down in a crowded restaurant and got our entrees in about 5 minutes. Oh yeah, and the cute waiter was hella flirting. A little ego boost certainly doesn't hurt the experience.
Food - I had the ravioli with meat sauce and my friend had the risotto special. Are you kidding me? it was delish. I ate all of mine and she hers. I rarely finish everything on my plate (to my mother's chagrin). Had a couple glasses of nice wine too.
Will return. -
Review from Jess S.
I always walked past here, and never actually ventured inside. I know, who do I think I am.
Was a very fun place. I had their steak, which was placed in front of me literally bubbling and sizzling in its juices. Delicious. Mozzarella plate was yum too, very fresh. Had some bites of their free range chicken, wasn't bad, but not wild. My taste buds could have been overwhelmed by the steak though.
Also, their house Tea made my brows lift. Came in adorable mason jars with cubes of lemon and ginger inside. I expected mild offense (my tongue and ginger, for some reason, fight a lot) but no, it was very well balanced, especially with the honey.
Fun for dates or lovey-dove friendships... I'd go as far as saying, you can also come here to have any serious or awkward conversations. There is dim lighting and really pleasant flavors to distract you. I know that's really weird, but intense talks are always softened over good food. Somehow the experience is still pleasant in the end.
Uhhm.. in case you were... uh. Ever searching... yelp... for that. -

The bread wasn't good.
YOU GUYS, IT'S CALLED BREAD AND THE BREAD WASN'T GOOD.
Which makes sense. The clientele is certainly not the type to indulge on empty calories. Please. Those ribcages are jutting.
Let's also mention that the pasta was swimming in this too-rich creamy bland pesto sauce like someone had just thrown a ladle on top of what would have been decent linguine.
Oh, and I would be remiss to leave out the waitress who ignored our table of three because she was too busy looking like she owned the place and therefore, couldn't bother to bring us salt and pepper (for the bland pesto) or a spoon.
But you know what? The eggplant parmesan was only medium-bad and the polenta was just so-so. And it was all pretty cheap for the neighborhood.
That's right. The poor food served by loser waitress model-types (whatever, jealousy, rear your ugly head, it's Soho, it's allowed) was dreadful but it was all so goddamn reasonably priced I don't feel so bad about it.
...But I do feel bad for those poor, bony girls flocking to eat here. -

Really neat place for lunch. Loved the atmosphere - casual and a little trendy. Service wasn't super fast, but we weren't in a huge hurry so it really didn't matter.
They brought bread to the table, which of course is a must with their name, and it was very good. It was served with very good olive oil and vinegar. We ate two bowls and enjoyed every last crumb.
Great meal. We tried the Penne Quattro Formaggi, which was very good but I would ask for it next time without the gorgonzola (personal preference). We also tried the tomato soup, which was just as everyone said - really tasty. My husband ordered the shrimp sandwich with arugula, avocado, and salsa rosa, and we all decided it was our favorite dish.
I would certainly go back! -

First it's called Bread... But you should know by bread* they're really talking about their fantastical* paninis. I say this first because my lovely guy said to me after asking him "hey do you want to go to Bread?" his reply "I think I want something more to eat then just bread*".... heart him I do.
Lunch or brunch which ever is awesome. I like to sit at the back bar and order a panini w/a peroni. The sardine panini is Ah-Mazing. I've never ate plain sardines before but they have a way with it, and I can't wait to have it again. The salad come in this large size mixing bowl which is a freaking meal and u can share that w/3-4 people. The Special Salad is the best hands down, and if you ask the Italian waitress they will tell u "Hands down the best Salad, it's my fav, you gonna love it"... I'm not too crazy about their dinner plates just some of the stuff is breaded and fried... not my thing so I would ask before hand how things are prepared.
Other then that this place is pretty sweet anytime of the day. -

A cute little place to come to have a salad and soup after shopping in SOHO.
The Atmosphere was lively and youthful. The art conflicts rather than compliment the decor, which is rustic.
The food is lack luster but edible. It's obvious that the head of the kitten is a cook and not a chef, therefore no need to try the dessert if you have tried the Tiramisu from Costco.
One last thing to remember there is a $20 credit card minimum. -

hi, my name is aimee and i enjoy sleeping in, dental floss and the teen pop mix on pandora.* i also really, REALLY like bread. ALOT. as in, it'd be a wonderful, magical thing if someone threw a couple of loaves of it down so i could swim in it. nekkid.
anywho, one sunday night, hermano and i were soho and ready to end a day of shopping debauchery (hello, bloomies!) by grabbing some grub. due to the nipple-y weather, we made the quick decision to hit-up balthazaar, but, alas, were deterred by the CHA-CHING prices. and because mama needs to be able to pay a little something called "rent," a much more wallet-friendly place to dine** was confirmed that housed my own personal supply of crack cocaine ... AKA raisin bread.
to be honest, i'm not sure how this obsession began, but i remember packing my own lunch at the tender age of 8 and including 4 slices of raisin bread instead of a sandwich as well as 6 chocolate chip cookies and a can of cherry coke. so, what if i was a faaaat kid that needed to shop in the junior's department since i didn't fit in girl's clothing? shuddup.
but, i digress. hermano and i shuffled in, happy to be out of the cold and caught up after two weeks of not seeing each other. *tear* to accompany the convo, there was, of course, the raisin bread with cheese (UH-MAZ-ING), beet salad (blah), steak with roasted potatoes (the latter should never be crunchy ... but were), free bruschetta (because our sweet waiter took pity on our crunchy potatoes) and chocolate mousse with bananas (fudge-y and healthy!).
aight, i'll give it to you straight - the food ain't that great, sans the bread and mousse, but the service is pretty fucking amazing. and, for that, i'll bump it up a star.
rodrigo hooked it up with the bread, didn't judge us when we said we didn't like the potatoes but (wha?!) they were magically gone when he cleared our plates and warmed-up my hands when i said i couldn't feel 'em cuz of the cold. he also didn't blink an eye when i shared my nekkid bread fantasy. in fact, he laughed. just what nolita needs - a waiter that indulges your love of carbs. now, that's quality service.
again, shuddup.
* - i'm living every 12 year old girl's fantasy.
** - thanks yelp for crackberries.
