My office is in Creekside so the smell of freshly made bread, pastries and scones taunt me on a daily basis. Well with the exception of the worst day of the week... Monday's generally suck for so many reasons but just to add to the list, the Bread Basket is closed every Monday. The guy has to sleep sometime i guess.
Almost daily at 10:30 or so a bell goes off (or my stomach growls) and i know it's time for a treat. My all time favorite is the Apple Turnover with icing. A close second would have to be the Blueberry Muffin with crumble on top and rounding out third place has to be the Blackberry Walnut scone. As long as you get in early enough (anytime before noon) your selection is likely to be warm from the oven.
Go see Brian and be sure to get a cup of coffee to go with your treat. They serve Stauf's! -

There's a lot to check out in Gahanna's new Creekside district. It's a tough call, but Bread Basket Family Bakery might just be the highlight.
These guys used to be located up on 161 before their recent move to downtown Gahanna. It's arguable whether the move puts them on the beaten path more or less, but it certainly puts them in a trendier area -- for whatever that's worth.
Now the goods:
These cats know a thing or two about baking. Challah bread! Croissants! Pepperoni Rolls! Veggie Rolls! Madelines! Pie! Cheesecake! Fruit tarts!
The real coup comes with the Cornish Pastie. It's a divinely flaky turnover filled with meat and vegetables.
Friendly help and lots of free samples seal the deal. An amazing bakery. -

No joking. Best scone of my life.
I have now developed a new addiction. The scones are incredible. No preservatives in their bread or any other item that is created in this bakery. Fresh fruit. Real butter. I am sitting next to the wrapper that had a blackberry walnut scone in it just minutes ago. I'm in love.
It is worth the distance to visit. Make it a wonderful, Saturday morning and walk along the creek behind the store (with ducks, swans, etc.) and know the people at this bakery will cut up any item for you to try, so you are sure to get exactly what your heart desires. That was basically the scenario that got my addiction started. A real gem! -

Just when you thought that the big grocery chains cornered the bakery business, up pops Bread Basket Family Bakery.
What a great little bakery! I'm not even a big bakery fan and this place really impressed me. Not only were they handing out free samples, they were handing out practically free meals! Their generosity is definitely a secret to their success.
We thoroughly enjoyed their raspberry scones. That's what we started with and they're too good to be true, but we didn't stop there. For something more substantial, try their Pepperoni Roll - unbelievable! Who needs pizza when this is available? I'm a huge Multi-Grain bread fan as well and theirs is as good as it looks.
If you're really looking for calories, you should try their new "Filled Croissant". Guess what's in it? Nope, not something sweet. It's aged Parmesan and Italian Proscutta Ham. WOW! My taste buds are still reelin'!
Don't forget dessert. You can choose cookies, brownies, pies, tarts, turnovers, cheesecakes and more. All of which can be custom made to your exact requirements. You've gotta leave room for your favorite dessert or else you'll miss the whole experience of this old-time bakery.
I'm done now. I gotta get back to the Bread Basket Family Bakery before they close! See ya... -

This might've been three stars but they committed a major faux pas that I hold businesses accountable for...featuring something online that they no longer carry in their stores. If you read under the croissant section "Italian Prosciutto ham and 10 month aged Parmesean cheese" who would not say "gimme somma dat!" Well we did and they said "we don't make those anymore." Then UPDATE your website! I've been looking forward to trying those for 4 days now after having built myself up!
Okay, so we got a cinnamon roll and chocolate croissant instead along with a loaf of wheat sourdough bread. The cinnamon rolls were pretty good. We prefer ooey gooey rolls and this was all crispy, hard cinnamon/brown sugar. We felt like they skimped on the icing even though icing them fresh in front of you was a nice touch. (Got there 1/2 hour after they opened) The croissants were, well, they tasted like anything you could get store bought quite frankly. When you've had awesome chocolate croissants from a place like Pistacia Vera, everything else seems to pale in comparison. My husband said it best when he said they had "the consequences of butter without the flavor." Seriously the box was soaked with butter but it didn't have that heavenly LIGHT buttery taste that croissants should have. Finally, the bread. Yeah, that might be going in the trash. We split a piece and it tastes fine the first chew or two and then you get hit with...something. It's not pleasant. When you wrinkle your noses in disapproval, it's not pleasant. We both LOVE sourdough bread but yeah, not so much from here. Won't be going back. -

I have to admit that the Bread Basket has some good stuff. Their croissants, cinnamon rolls, and cinnamon scones are out of this world. But the only issue that I have with them is that their focus seems to be on the business entities who pay them bake their breads for them. Reason why I say this is because almost every time I go in there, myself and a few other customers can hardly ever get any croissants. if that is one of your high selling items and you see the same customers come in every day to get one. Well I would believe that you would have some on stock. Focus a little more on the customers that walk in and this would be the best place to ever get your baked goods.

"Without bread all is misery," (William Cobbett). That very quote can be seen on the wall of the Bread Basket Family Bakery. Proprietors Bryan and Jennifer Tyler recently moved to their current location which is part of the growing community of shops along the Big Walnut Creek in downtown Gahanna, but have been in the Columbus area for a total of four years. At the Bread Basket, everything has been made from scratch and is continuously hot from of the oven. You can sample just about anything that is displayed, from their breads, pies, and cookies to their scones. I tried a mixed berry scone which contains strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. The fruit, I was pleasantly surprised to find, was fresh or at the least frozen rather than dry like many places do. There wasn't much sugar or a strong flavor of anything else, like butter, allowing the flavor of the berries to be the emphasis. I prefer it that way; au naturel. I'd say they are best eaten when you get them crisp from the bakery. If you take them home and need to reheat them, pop them in the oven or a toaster oven. I don't recommend nuking them, it totally ruins them.
