Review from Sarah W.
Best local coffee spot in Ogunquit area.
Right on the main section on rt. 1, across from roses and abacus.
The desserts are delicious, yet don't forget they make homemade pizza too (which is so good for lunch)!
Besides coffee (carpe diem), they offer many specialty drinks (mochachinos, chai teas, smoothies, and many others!)
Being I used to work around the area, parking is pretty nonexistent down in Ogunquit. Try to street park or by the beach and walk the distance...it'll be worth it! -

Overwhelming. What to try? What to taste first? Cakes, bars, pies, breads, coffees oh my!
Settled on the MixedBerry Crunch Pie, Harvest bread & freshly brewed coffee concoction. Everything was Devine. Solidly placating my severe momentary sweet tooth (carb fiending). Don't miss this bakery! -

Not wowed at all. I read all these glowing reviews. But I was not impressed. Their selection, okay a pretty good variety. But prices? Pretty high for overall quality + service. The first time I went there I got just a quick snack to supplement dinner, so a brownie and something else that I cannot remember. The brownie was really nothing to rave about. I've had better brownies. My friend got the mini cheesecake and something else. She loved it. But, really her excuse is she's foreign and she probably hasn't had an amazing cheesecake before so with nothing to compare it to, she probably thought it was the best you can get.
I thought I'd give it another try, order some other stuff. I got a chocolate cream tart and a coconut cream tart. Not impressed yet again. The coconut cream tart just did not taste like coconut. They just threw in shredded coconut that was at a texture where it was chewy and not appealing. The crust was nothing amazing, bland even. I just wanted more....flavor, quality etc. With the prices they were charging, I think it was about $3 for a tart that was the circumference of a small plum it would be amazing. It was not. -

Yet another trip to the beautiful town of Ogunquit and no trip is complete without a trip to Bread and Roses. This afternoons stop was a "picker upper" of wonderful coffee and a whoopie pie. Both exceeded my expectations (as if there was any doubt... really). This wonderful store produces amazing sweet treats and is gracious about giving back to the community. I am already looking forward to my return visit... and another whoopie pie!

Poor service and overrated baked goods. I went there twice with some friends. The first time, I got an egg and cheese on croissant to take to the beach--absolutely underwhelming and bland due to its being under a heat lamp. My friend bought it for me because I had bought her a drink the night before, so I didn't notice any slowness of service then. Today, I got in line to buy a lemon tart after lunch. The three girls behind the counter skipped over me not once, not twice, but three times to serve the other people standing in the line, even after I had reached the front. I've had way better service and way better food and desserts from my local Whole Foods. Never again, Bread and Roses.

What a fun, delicious place! It is small inside, they don't have a huge selection but what they do have sure looks great. They have a typical bakery selection: cookies, cupcakes, brownies, tarts, and other cool stuff. They didn't have a large selection of bread which I found odd considering part of the name of the place has 'bread' in it but I was also there late in the day so it is possible they normally have more there to choose from.
I wished I wasn't so full when I went in there, they had this awesome looking freshly baked slice of pizza that had this great looking crust. I did get this seven layer graham cracker crust bar that had berries, chocolate, and other stuff in it. It tasted delicious, it was so rich it took me about 24 hours to eat the entire thing. But, it was worth it, it was quite unique tasting. At first I wasn't sure that all the ingredients would go together but it worked! Fun little place, totally worth stopping in if you are in the area. -

The gingerbread-molasses cookie was AMAZING. My mom and I both thought it was the best gingerbread type cookie we had ever had. We actually went back and bought two more to go home with after walking the Marginal Way.
The chocolate chip cookie, on the other hand, was pretty standard. Nothing to write home about. -

Hubby and I went to visit Mary and the gang at Bread and Roses today and it was SO good. Cookies, pies, and surprisingly gorgeous wraps!
Backstory: We'd made the mistake of eating 'lunch' at a 'pub' across the street. Being a vegetarian, the only thing on their menu was vastly grosser than the menu had described, so I was still hungry.
Bread and Roses saved the day with a fresh veggie and hummus wrap! It was enormous, amazingly fresh, and free of all the crap spreads restaurants like to slather on foods. So, if you're looking for healthy sandwiches and wraps, B&R has you covered!
Of course, we finished it off with a choc chip cookie, whoopie pie, and some dense lemon bread that was perfect!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Coffee was yummy (I tried the Vanilla Bean flavor) and the location is great for walking around and enjoying the coffee. Definitely worth our little 15 minute drive to get to it.
Parking can be tough but we got lucky and parked in a 30 min only spot (how much time do you need to drink a coffee?).
They had a whole window full of delicious looking pastries, though I didn't get to taste them (sad face). There was a line and tons of people getting bakery items, so I assume they're pretty good. -

This place is incredible. A wonderful bakery with anything you can imagine. I recommend the giant chocolate chip cookie, black bottom cupcakes, mocca chocolate cake. If you love cupcakes, they have a good variety of flavors for you. I liked the key lime bars too.

Take a stroll through the quaint town of Ogunquit, ME and make sure you stop by Bread and Roses Bakery. Made fresh every morning, the pastries are warm and melt-in-your-mouth. One of my staples is the Raspberry and Cream filled Croissant. (What doesn't taste good with a croissant, right?) Don't forget a hot cup of coffee to wash it down. You can sit outside and enjoy the cool salty breeze off the ocean or continue on your walk around town or to the beach.
They also have a large assortment of cakes for special occasions. I have not tried them but they look amazing. -

The best in town - lemon blueberry and cranberry orange scones awesome - the real deal! Cinnamon and raspberry twists are really good, blueberry crumb bar is out of this world, Ginger cookie is awesome, as is the giant chocolate chip cookie. The cinnamon butter puffs are really good too! Coffee is fresh and the hottest I have ever had! Special place - get there if you can!

Their blueberry crumble, Monkey Business cake, and key lime squares were all to die for. We were able to go there several times on vacation although in the afternoons. On the last day, we went back earlier so that we could taste the Morning Glory muffin they are known for. For some reason, it was just OK, more like a bran muffin. Very good coffee and customer service.
The cheesecake brownies and the fruit tarts looked awesome, and I wish there were more days in the week so that we could try more of their pastries. -

I've been coming here since their first location in the back alley and I never forget to visit when I'm in Ogunquit. Beautiful bakery with a lot of variety and kind staff. My friend and I got sandwiches/panninis here before heading to the beach and the rosemary foccacia bread that mine had was so amazing I wanted to eat it everyday if I could. Their pastries/pies are amazing and although I don't drink coffee, I've heard its good. You gotta try the bread though, for sure.

i really dont see what's special about this place. Very costly sandwiches, panini that taste just ok. The coffee also taste quite plain. There is also no restrooms and tables outsides are not cleaned at all. For that price point, i expect more than this.

This is one of my favorite bakeries in all of New England. I cannot go anywhere near Ogunquit without stopping in for that Hazelnut Supreme coffee. You can chill it, serve it hot, blend it in a drink - I don't care. I have bags of the whole beans sent to me. It's a darker roast than other flavored coffees. This is reason alone to go here.
Now let's talk tarts. Their lemon-raspberry tart is another five-star item. I really have never had a pastry here that didn't sing to me. I never leave without a boxed assortment, that's for sure. They also have wonderful breads and even a couple of egg breakfast items and pizza. I believe there are fruit smoothies and teas, but really, let's face it - I'm too caught up in coffee and pastry time, folks! -

We were really looking forward to coffee and pastries at Bread and Roses since it looks great and has a very good reputation. Also, we are former owners of a European-style bakery and always enjoy finding other small independently owned bakeries. Unfortunately, despite two visits, we were disappointed. We ordered an assortment of breakfast pastries - scones, croissants, muffins, cinnamon rolls. None of them entirely lived up to our expectations. The pastries were somewhat bland and didn't live up to the quality standards that we set for ourselves when we were bakery owners. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good bakery and you can tell the owners and staff are trying very hard. It just wasn't the wonderful experience we were looking for.

I had a whoppie pie here last year...let me say that I had one bite and my wife devoured the rest. The only thing she could say was omg this is so good. Went back this year and the pies were in the back packaged with plastic wrap....lets just say they went from omg to average.

I have a total sweet tooth so I LOVED this bakery. We stopped in here on a Saturday and I was amazed at the selection of pastries and pies that they have. I ordered an apple tart, and my boyfriend ordered a lemon tart with raspberry drizzled on the top. I have to say that I do make a mean lemon square, and their lemon tarts were comparable to my squares. My apple tart was also delicious. You could tell that everything was homemade and very fresh. I stopped in here again on Monday morning and had a blueberry square and a coffee. The coffee was a little expensive but very tasty, much better than Starbucks. The blueberry square was amazing. It almost tasted like a Nutrigrain Bar, but much better. I highly recommend this bakery if you like sweet yummy thing!

There were so many goodies I wanted to get here...including their famous cookie that's the size of your face. Alas, they ran out of chocolate chip so I got a chocolate cookie and a cinnamon butter puff. Cookie was good and the cinnamon puff was melt in your mouth...it was so rich though...but Jill K finished it for me.

PHENOMENAL pastries! I don't even like sweets, as I do not have a sweet tooth, but the lemon-raspberry tart was amazing!!! If you're on a diet, do NOT visit this place because you cannot walk out of here without buying something. Delish!

Great for pastries, lunch, coffee etc. We make multiple trips here during our stay in Ogunquit. The kids love sitting at the tables and watching the birds pick at crumbs that are dropped.

I served the mocha chocolate truffle cake, created by Bread & Roses, at a small reception in Massachuesetts last Sunday. EVERY single person there raved about this cake. Honestly ALL agreed it was the best cake they had ever eaten. Plus it was beautifully decorated with obvious loving care. My only regret is I live in Texas, not Ogunquit, Maine. This cake is worth traveling for.

We came back and we lucked out! First of all, they've moved things around inside since the last time we were here, and it looks and feels much better. We stopped in today at around 6:28 pm to get some coffee (to go with our 2 Fat Cats Bakery Whoopie Pies) and since they were closing up, they asked if we'd like some complimentary muffins or fruit tarts. We couldn't resist, so we tried the fruit tart and it was wonderful. Blackberries, Mango, Strawberries and Kiwi in a cream filled tart. Whoopie Pies will have to wait. Thank You Bread and Roses.

When I went to this bakery I bought cookies, whoopie pies, and cupcakes. Some of the cookies were not fully cooked. The filling in the whoopie pies was bland and tasteless. I wasn't expecting much from their whoopie pies to begin with because my mother makes great whoopie pies, but even bakery items from a supermarket, in a box, would have been better. I hear their breakfasts are good.
