Review from Kristen F.
Nashville, TN
The service is typically really slow and never top notch. The food is well made with a large selection of baked goods, salads, and sandwiches. My favorites are the bagel sandwiches, chicken salad, waffles, and sugar cookies. The espresso drinks are unimpressive and the milk has been scalded on more than one occasion, so I only get drip coffee anymore.

Bread and Company leaves me totally and wholly conflicted.
I love bacon and I would probably murder for their fruit tea. Bread and Company completely meets my bacon needs and obviously leaves me a free man with their free refills...for now.
However, there's the issue of pricing and then there's the issue of parking (which is specific to this location).
My go to salad for many moons has been the "Belle Meade" - it features oodles of bacon and a neat red wine dressing. They also have their cobb which throws bleu cheese into the mix...and let's be honest, bleu cheese should be invited to almost any party.
My problem with this...is that the salad is TEN DOLLARS. Ten bucks...for lettuce, some parmesan and not enough dressing for the salad (I don't smother my salad...but there should be enough dressing to at least have a touch in every bite). Technically, it comes with "artisan" croutons...so a portion of the ten dollars could go to this colony of crouton artisans who sit around in their crouton studios trying to perfect the crouton (too late - Ruby Tuesday beat you). It's a lovely salad, a good salad...but it is not a ten dollar salad.
Then I have to buy my tea.
Salad and a drink...almost 15 bucks.
And let's hope my car doesn't get towed during this whole bit because I may or may not be parked illegally at Regions Bank next door. -

I think the key to this place is knowing what you're in for.
1. The service is basically non-existent...but if you know what you're doing you don't need the service.
2. It will always be busy around lunch...always. Avoid this time of day and you'll be fine. Try 2pm : )
3. Not all food at any restaurant is spectacular (not that Ive found yet anyways)...but when you find those two or three things that are delicious (here there are more than two or three) it'll keep you coming back!
4. Expect to pay! This isn't McDonald's. It's fresh and made to order so it's going I be pricy.
Basically knowing how to navigate and what to order will make your trip here much more pleasant. Go with someone who knows because a first timer will be 100% confused and nobody staffed will pay you any attention. Unfortunately there are no "tip" options to the receipts or maybe it would boost the friendly factor! -
Review from Rachel D.
I was hoping this place would be more logically laid out than their West End location. It was just a tad more organized. But still not intuitive.
Fewer seating options than the other store.
I came in just for a croissant, and was aghast at paying $3 for it. After having their lox and bagel for $10 at their other store, I should have known better.
I didn't see much variety in terms of their pastries, and the layout of their breads wasn't complete when I came in early in the morning.
I've tried 2 locations and it's enough to cross this place off my list permanently. -
Review from Ted C.
It's an upscale version of Panera which is fine and their huge deli/sandwich section has a lot of options but the layout is really confusing with the register centrally located which makes sense on paper but when you have to go from one of the place to the other before you have to pay. Sandwich order sheets are also near the front and then there's the salad and soup section before you get to the sandwich line. I tried to give my sandwich sheet to person behind the deli counter.
The tomato basil soup, their 'signature' was just okay. I should have gotten something else though, since it isn't my favorite soup. I did however build my own sandwich and it was stacked so high that my sandwichmaker had a hard time putting in the little toothpicks.
The sandwich was huge and I have no else to blame but myself but with the soup and a drink it came out to almost 20 bucks! It's a sandwich and soup! A good one, for sure but one that I shouldn't pay that much for. Next time I'll go for one of their signature sandwiches, see if the price comes down then reevaluate.Listed in: Noshville

I love sandwiches as much as the next girl, but for some reason this is not my top stop. I find the bread to be a little too hard, I prefer a nice soft bread, and the meats tend to be a little dry. However, they do have a fantastic peanut butter and apple sandwich when you're in that kind of mood. I also enjoy their fruit tea and a few of the pasta salad options. Environmentally it's lacking as well; the place just seems a bit run down. And the staff is usually less than excited to be helping you. All in all, a good concept, but not my favorite.

I have been a fan of Bread and Company for many years enjoying their fresh and creative salads and sandwiches, soups, and baked goods...and especially their fruit tea. Although I haven't been there on a regular basis for a few years, the few times I have been in I have noticed that it has gone down hill. After my experience today, I felt the need to write a review (I have never done this). First of all, the restaurant was quite dirty. I was there around 2:00 so perhaps they had a big lunch service and were worse for the wear. They seemed to be understaffed and the staff that were there didn't really seem to care about anything, including the customers. No one greeted us or made eye contact or smiled. The food was okay (chicken salad sandwich) and overpriced (this has always been true).
I'm having a hard time defining the problem but Bread and Company has lost it's touch as a favorite for meeting a friend for brunch or lunch, casual business meetings, or for taking the kids for an after school treat. I found it drab, dirty, unfriendly, and overpriced. I am disappointed as they are a local independent chain that has been around a long time. Their location is great and a quick, counter-style lunch spot is needed in Green Hills. I hope the Belle Meade location remains superior to the GH location. it's warm, orderly, clean, bustling atmosphere makes me wonder if they are owned by the same people. I hope that the management will start to make the necessary improvements to get the restaurant on par with other similar places or else I will be taking my business elsewhere. -

Think of Panera Bread, add a few dollars more to everything on the menu, and you have arrived at Bread & Company. Would I say it's worth it? Yeah, sure. Would I go here all the time, though? Probably not. Everything here is delicious and fresh, and I love the way you order sandwiches (kind of like SATCO, you just check off the toppings), but it's a little too expensive to go here on a regular basis. (Ex. I love their fruit tea, but I'm not paying $10 to bring home a gallon.)

I've only been here twice and each time I loved the food. It's so fresh and delicious. I've had their pre-made sandwiches as well as their build your own.
Why it only gets 3 stars is because I find the entire process confusing. I don't understand their set up or how I'm suppose to order. There are way too many different places to order from and the sequence is sporadic. Sides are past the last cashier stand but you need to order them before you pay. What? I'm so confused.
P.S. no dietary info so I have no idea how many calories I'm consuming. -

I love their chicken tarragon salad, and I usually get it on a salad of mixed greens with granola and a bunch of other toppings and it comes out to about $14. YEAH $14 FOR A SALAD THAT YOU EAT OUT OF A PLASTIC CONTAINER. Also, the lack of calorie information both at the restaurant and on the web is annoying. I'd excuse the ridiculous prices if they'd tell me more about what is in the food.

I have enjoyed the food here, but did not feel like I posted enough on my W-2 form to eat here. I'm pretty sure some of the teens running amuck in this place had allowances bigger than my paycheck. I'm pretty sure they knew it too.
Insecurities aside, the food was pretty good, no matter whose recipe it originally was (leigh). I don't think I'll be back now that the Whole Foods is open so close by. I do stop by the West End and Cool Springs locations occasionally and find them more enjoyable. -

So there are lots of places to get sandwiches in town, and I have compared Bread and Company to the Food Company in my review of that place. I may have sounded unnecessarily harsh since I do enjoy the food at Bread and Company.
This store on Hillsboro was the first one I came across. I used to live right down the street, and I worked down the street as well. I think the thing that amazes me is how crowded this location is. It is always packed. In fact, all of the Bread and Company locations are in great spots. There development/real estate team deserves a pat on the back. There are a somewhat dizzying array of sandwiches and salads to choose from. I would recommend studying the menu before getting in line. That's just me talking; I don't enjoy being behind people who are still reading through the menu when they (finally) get to the sandwich counter to give their order.
Some of my favorites are the balsamic turkey with (pulled, not sliced) turkey, goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar. All of the toppings for the sandwiches are fresh, and the people making the sandwich (at this store, at least) are right there so you can give any special requests. Soups rotate daily. You can get them in a nice bread bowl or 'boule,' I suppose I should say. Their fruit tea is delicious. You can get gallons of it to go. There are other items in the deli cases as well to get on the run...pre-made sandwiches and salads. I love the salads with fresh fruit; a strawberry salad deserves special mention. Summer is the time for fresh strawberries. A salmon fillet salad and the cobb are keepers.
Sandwiches are served with kettle chips. The chips might not be made in store, but they are delicious. There is brunch on the weekends with omelets made to order. Like some other people have pointed out, this lunch can set you back some $$$. I would say this is to be expected. Bread and Company is going after a certain clientele, and they are succeeding. I imagine their demographic can afford to drop $8 or $9 on a sandwich, no problem. (See also the comment about their store locations.) I don't mind doing it every now and then.
This was the first location I came across, but it is no longer the closest one to me. I'm also growing increasingly wary of going in to Green Hills (damn you, Hill Center!). Be careful trying to get in and out of this store since Hillsboro is so busy. I almost got rear-ended one day. He said it was my fault. Whatever, he made a left-hand turn in front of me when I had the right of way. I believe this is also the favored location for Nicole and Keith so tell them hello when you stop in! -

This place has great FRESH sandwiches, so if you have the time, don't just grab one from the cooler. Also, tons of other very scrumptuous and delightful baked goods. Also, this place is supposed to have the most AMAZING chocolate bread around Christmas time. Check it out!!
Upon my periodical returns to my hometown in the Volunteer State...the Bread and Company ranks near the top of must haves for my culinary endulgence. Oh...and kudos on the helpful and friendly staff. (4.75) -

I'm a fan. And I like this location. Mainly because it's closer to me, but it's also roomy without being too big, and great for a business breakfast or lunch without all the crowds getting in the way.
I love their cook-to-order breakfast omelets in the mornings, and always treat myself to an iced sugar cookie in whatever shape of the season they might have. Makes me feel like a kid again! I'm not a huge fan of the chicken salad, but then I'm really picky when it comes to chicken salad. It's good, but I just prefer my own.
When I used to buy breakfast for clients, they put together a great tray of bagels and muffins--complete with plates and utensils, as well as several kinds of cream cheeses. You don't have to do a thing but pick it up ad deliver it!
All in all, Bread & Company is a great local establishment, and I'll continue to support it! -

I know that most of you love this place but I hate it with a passion. Everything they have is basically a knock-off of the now closed Corner Market (even before the market closed these sell outs were stealing their recipes). Although it may have been in my high school days the market does hold a place on my resume. And none of Bread & Companies crappy renditions can hold a candle to the grandeur of the originals.
Loyalty may just be one of my strong points. -

Just a great lunch spot. I love their chicken salad, and they have several varieties. I love the almond tarragon. My fav! Here you can get just about any variety of salads and sandwiches you can think of. Lots of fresh ingredients like strawberries, green grapes, walnuts, etc.
Order up and mix any kind of breads and deli meat. The breads are baked fresh and so moist. The Sequoia bread, with cranberries and almonds, is to die for. Order the chicken salad on sequoia and the fruit tea and you'll agree there is no better lunch in Nashville! The desserts are amazing. I dream about their chocolate chip cookies! As a plus, great celeb sighting place! -

One of my must eats when I visit home! I go for the pre-made sandwiches (they're already stellar) because I'm usually in a pinch.
Roast beef with horseradish mayo, thinly sliced red onions and lettuce is perfect on some gooooood bread.
"the boulder veggie" is also one of my favorites! Slices of all sorts of fresh veggies with an artichoke spread! Yum!
Great pastries and desserts, prepared foods and my favorite... FRUIT TEA (aka Tea Punch). Can't find it out in California, so I must get my fix in Nashville.
Oh yeah, great bread too, but that goes without saying! -

Gallatin, TN
This was my first time here after my wife went there for a business meeting and raved about it. I was less whelmed by the restaurant. The layout is pretty confusing, with multiple registers and places to order your food. I got a roast beef sandwich which was fine. One of the criteria I use when evaluating a restaurant is if I could have made the same or better at home, and I definitely could have surpassed this with ease. We picked up desserts on our way out, and the creme brulee was quite yummy. The breakfasts that were flying by looked good, so it may be worth a return trip to check those out, but based on the sandwich I had, keep going down the street to Noshville.

My vote for the best cupcakes in Nashville! Try the peanut butter and chocolate ones. I couldn't stop thinking about them for a week after I had my first.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban (her hubbie) love the food here. Kidman says they'll still drive over after they move from their Green Hills house to their nearly farm. Other famous and regular middle class neighbors love the bread, sandwiches and soups.

$38 bucks, that's what I was charged. $38 bucks. I know I should have questioned it, but I was in a daze dealing with Dad all day. We ordered a cookie, Crme brle, a tiramisu and a single glass of milk. The server read back the order and I handed $40 bucks, I don't know what I was thinking. Don't know what she was thinking.
The food?
Okay- my tiramisu was dried out a bit from being in the cooler all day.
Don't go at closing time, or you might in for a surprise like me. -

I know, it's getting old to hear "I saw Keith & Nicole at Bread & Company". Or, even more annoying, "One of my friends saw Keith & Nicole at Bread & Company" which is my story. I did see Keith Urban at the Subway around the corner, I guess Bread & Co. had already closed for the night. And, if I could point out one of my two complaints about this place, the hours are definitely one. Depending on the time of year, they close at either 7 or 8 pm. Way too early! But, as I have found, this location is more popular with the morning and lunch crowd so I guess they don't find it beneficial to stay open late. And, Green Hills being the monster that it is during lunch time, my only option here is for dinner. So, Panera gets my business more often than not because they stay open until 9. Which is sad, because I am addicted to two things: the strawberry fields salad and the gourmet peanut putter sandwich. The chicken noodle soup and turkey chili are both favorites for chilly days. Oh, and they have some yummy coffee creations as well. It is a bit pricey for what you get, I'll admit that. It's tough to get out of here under $10 which seems high for a sandwich shop. But Bread & Co. fancies themselves to be in the "artisan bread" business. Beware going during lunch, you will soon begin to resent the majority of the ladies that will be driving their SUVs to yoga or shopping after lunch as opposed to work like the rest of us...

One of my favorite places to eat in Nashville. While bread & company is a little on the pricey side, the food is fantastic. Sandwhich as always fresh and I love how you can pick & choose what you want in your food. Their bread is absolutely delicious my absolute favorite is the cranberry walnut bread YUM. Fruit Tea is also a very unique drink which I've never had before moving to Nashville. When I had gone home to New York, I wanted to bring a little Nashville back so I bought some cinniman rugalache back for my brother, in which he polished within 30 mins. He loves those things so much that when he came here, he bought 2 bags & finished them within a day, and before he had to leave he bought 5 more bags to bring back to NY some to eat & some to freeze. This is one place where I always crave their food.

generally, i like the food here. just like any other place, there are some items that just don't do it for me. this particular location gets pretty crowded and the flow of the place doesn't do well to get your food and pay for it. the parking lot is interesting to maneuver through. it's pretty pricey for what you get. i'm sometimes astounded by my bill here and i wonder if the food is worth it.

sandwiches are fine, sides are blah (esp the cold salads), layout is confusing, order and pay experience is confusing/aggrevating, clientele snooty and annoying, and the prices are very high.
