Review from Ralph R.

Stopped in after an austere but delicious lunch at Sunny's, so had plenty of room for dessert. The best around, another old school baker, bread and pastries are the best. I had an eclair, a raspberry-coconut square, and some rolled cake with a strawberry on top, it had a touch of liquor, yum! The baking is the best, but the shop needs a face-lift, you can hardly read the sign hanging out front, the pastry cases are 1960's at best and don't hold that much. A lot of product is stacked on some back shelves so you can't even see them well. The light fixtures, tables and chairs all need an update. I'm sure the owner thinks he can't afford it, but he should raise his prices 20% to cover the costs. Come on a lunch sandwich for just over $5.00, you can't go to any sandwich shop for that. And in Concord no less, that is the capitol of the state, people can afford it. All the rich live near the capitol, that's where "we" all the towns in NH sends our tax money and have it disappear. I'll go back.

THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS !! (In a good way of course....)
I love browsing through all the goodies they have on display. I have tried the lemon croissant, chocolate croissant and the fruit tart- all of which are to die for! The bread is fantastic as well but the chocolate croissants are my favorite!
The customer service is always excellent. The girl at the register is a doll!
Bread and Chocolate is a great place to get a yummy treat or a loaf of bread but not a coffee- their coffee selection is minimal which is a little disappointing to me. -

I really wanted to like this place. I mean, who doesn't love a name like Bread & Chocolate? But, the croissant I got was dry -- just one step up from name-a-grocery-store. Nothing like Fiore's in Jamaica Plain, MA! They have spoiled me!
I can't speak for the glory of their cakes, as I did not try them, but I did sample their cream cheese brownie which I got for my girlfriend, and we shared it. About it, she says, "I didn't think it was that flavorful. It was mediocre: it tasted homemade, but if it's not good homemade, then just being homemade isn't enough."
They have many types of sandwiches, wrapped in white paper (I love that), such as ham & cheese, mozzarella, basil, & tomato, & turkey, and they're nicely-priced (between $5.50 and $6.50, or so).
There's a nice a area to sit (un-airconditioned, which was fine for me), and quiet, which is good for studying.
The service was fabulous (hence the 3 stars). The one female server was courteous, efficient, and friendly: really sweet. As I sat there with my okay coffee and not-so-good croissant, I noticed that no matter how long the line became, she was sweet as sugar.
But, Bread & Chocolate - in terms of the bakery items -- just doesn't live up to its name! -

Im always in search for a good bakery in this state. My mother-in-law took to lunch at Bread and Chocolate and I can honestly say, I have found a gem.
My son got a ham and cheese sandwhich, MIL got the tuna and I got the fresh mozzarella and tomato with basil. All were served on Ciabatta bread. We all loved them - even though they were premade.
We got a few desserts as well: a mini fruit tart, a mini Opera cake and a mini lemon cake. All were delish. Glad to see a bakery in NH doing the mini's, as Im used to the huge Italian ones in NY that have 3 glass cases full of them (Oh how I miss Ferrara's in Little Italy!)
Next dinner party I throw, Im taking the trip to Concord to snatch up a box of mini's, for sure.
Oh and they had a ton of different croissants with so many different fillings, I plan on trying a few of those as well! -

Certainly my bakery of choice in all of Merrimack County. Street parking only and only a few tables in the front of the shop for nibbling on your selection - but it is divine.
*Sandwiches for lunch!! Their bread is baked in-house....friggin' YUM! Great selection and all are filling and flavorful.
*Chocolate cake......phenomenal (rich and moist). This layered masterpiece is what my brother asks for his birthday celebration every year.
*Their Fruit Tart has been a birthday tradition for the last ten years of my life. This dessert is fresh, sweet and creamy. A fruit kaleidoscope atop creamy flan custard held in a shortbread crust....how do you say "no?" -you don't. I order the large tart with blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, and kiwi....and the plate is clean within 48 hours.
*Croissants of perfection - delicate and buttery and take me back to vacationing in Southern France. Go figure: the baker and owner of B&C is a very skilled European. Whether it be ham&cheese (my fave), fruit-filled, or PLAIN ..they're magnificent buttery bits every time.
*Prices are reasonable (but I'd be willing to pay greater than the tag for any of their creations). -

Closest thing to reminding me of being back in Europe. Absolutely love their black forest chocolate cake and homemade breads - Their oatmeal bread is my favorite! It's always a great option to pick up a quick pre-made sandwich for less than $6...can't beat the price, quality and the fact that is way healthier than anything else I can pick up at a standard fast food restaurant.

Their fruit custard is my favorite. Buttery crust, rich custard, but the fruit on top keeps it feeling light. What also makes this place great is that it is also located right next to a local bookstore. So you can grab something sweet and then sit down with a good book. Just like going to Borders, but instead you are supporting two local businesses.

Run by an austere (yet kind) Austrian, small-city bakeries don't get any better than this. They offer fair trade coffee, excellent pastries and an inviting ambiance, all for reasonable prices. Perhaps the only downfall is their desserts, which could be much better. Otherwise, die Speise gefallt mir sehr!

Walk in, let the smell of bread and sweets wash over you, focus on the pastry case and pick ONE. Any other baked goods make sure they seal the box tight , or they'll never make it home to share.

Stopped in today with a friend. Smelled like heaven in there. Girl working the counter was super friendly & joked with us as we decided which treat to pick out. I had a chocolate chip walnut cookie. It was nicely chewy & sweet, though I would have like a touch more salt. My friend got a piece of baklava and she said it was excellent. Cute place.
