Review from Dan R.
Had a group dinner here, and we were all very impressed with the food and service. The meal started with these awesome little pepperoni puffs- think of a small flaky roll with a slice of pepperoni inside. They came in a bread basket with all sorts of yummy starches- focacchio squares and small squares of what looked like pizza. They were all very good. The rest of the meal incuded a nice salad, penne in sauce, chicken parmigiana, lemon tilapia, rice pilaf, mixed vegetables, coffee and tiramisu. Our waiter was fabulous- he hustled like a crazy man all night, clearing dishes, bringing out new courses, taking drink orders, etc. He was super efficient and very polite. The food was terrific and the service was terrific. I'm very curious to have dinner there and see what ordering off the menu will bring us. Beers weren't too expensive ($4.50) but a rum and coke was $6.50.

The decor is tacky and outdated. The pizza is very good and the ingredients are natural. The soups are also very good. The service is terrible! The host, who I assumed was the owner, didnt say hello to me and my clients as we walked in. The waiter took 20 minutes to bring the check after we asked for it. I left the table and approached him and he said he "forgot". We will not be back.

First: I'm Italian. Second: This place is really good. The service was -o.k, am I famous?? kinda service. The food was overwhelming. I mean, I coulda made a meal just outta da appetizer. Then the soup and salad and then the main course. Momma Mia. Yep. I'm sittin' at the kitchen table and momma is makin' sure I'm eatin' enough. Yeah...I ate enough. Enough to feel like a little stuffed piglet. And it's ALL GOOD. An on-the-house after dinner liquor to top it off. Yeah baby.....stick a fork in me...I'm done!
You want to eat like a King (or Queen) and NOT break the bank AND bring home food for tomorrow???? Yeah? Well, whattayawaitinfor? Go to Brazi's. -

Not bad, not bad.
Needed fuel before tackling Ikea, but didn't feel like driving all over new haven, so we stopped here. The food was ok. Nothing amazing, but good. Decor is totally cheesy banquet hall style. The service was ok, not great.
I would not go out of your way to go here, especially when new haven has many other awesome options, but not bad. -

Brazi's is a pizza joint trying too hard to be an italian restaurant... and failing. (Disclosure: I didn't try tthe pizza, so it may be failing as a pizza spot as well.)
Instead of plain bread at the beginning of the meal, they serve pepperoni knots and bread with tomato sauce on it - unimpressive. With the bread, they serve oil and vinegar. Warning: the oil is not olive oil (or if it is, it's really bad olive oil). It was a clear, flavorless oil - probably vegetable or conola. I don't know many people who dip their breads in these oils. Do you?
The food itself was just as disappointing. Flavors were bland, nothing special. Calamari needed more seasoning. Shrimp was overcooked. Risotto was watery.
If you're jonesing for some Italian food, don't go here. If you're looking for an unpolished olive garden, then go here. -

VERY disappointed in my experience at Brazi's. First off the service was HORRIBLE. I sat literally in a corner with my boyfriend and was not served for about 20 to 25 minutes. I understand that some places tend to get busy but our waiter stared at us and did not come over once to start us off with drinks.
Our server was more interested in the 10 to 12 person party next to our table. I ordered Penna alla vodka and was served RIGATONI alla vodka, I may not be Italian but I KNOW that this is a huge difference in pasta.
My water and soda glass was literally empty and our waitor did not ask us ONCE if I wanted another coke nor did he fill up my water glass.
I have heard SO many great things about this restaurant but I was very upset with my meal. The sauce was not as good as I thought it would be and we did not get any bread! How can you not eat bread with a pasta dish? I can honestly say I will never be coming back here again. -

Calimari Brazi = AMAZING
Holy cow this place is good!
I thought it would have been horrible based on its location, but we were pleasantly surprised. The server took his time to ensure we were well taken care of, the food was good. -

Nothing about this place is good to me. Bottled salad dressing and jarred sauce would have been better!
1. The salad that came with dinner, they only offered garden salads and were unwilling to substitute a side ceasar salad so I just had the ceasar dressing on the wilted garden salad. The dressing was absolutely horrible.
2. Artichokes Francais were way too buttery. I never understood why you would place something fried(crispy) into liquid but I was dying for artichokes!
3. Eggplant Parmigiana was cut a bit thick, came out cold and was served skin on. Its not a good look. Peel it.
But the nail in Brazi's coffin was the shitty service. SLOW as hell, failed to notice the piss warm beer they handed me... I don't see how people like this place at all. -

While staying in New Haven for a few weeks, I passed Brazi's probably 5 times a day and unfortunately for me I waited til my last night in town to check it out. Had the bruschetta to start and it was fantastic. My colleague who claims to be terrified of tomatoes (yeah, odd) even enjoyed it. For dinner I went with the Ravioli a la Brazi, which was pretty good as well. I wish I had given the place a shot earlier in my stay, it would have saved me from all of those terrible hotel meals.

I don't write many reviews, unless it's something I really like, or something that was terrible to warn others.
Guess by my rating which Brazi is.
I've heard many good things about this place from a friend so I gave it a shot. Either she has lower standards or never went at 3pm. I understand that's a time a lot of wait staff will eat because it's a slower time, but all 5 employees I saw there were eating at the same time, except 1 person, and she wasn't our waiter. Our waitress sat eating her lunch and didn't come over for a good 6-8 minutes. She came over, took our order put it in and went back to her lunch, completely forgetting or ignoring my drink order. We asked the other person not actually eating for it and she was very nice and got it. It was a short wait for the food, and it wasn't bad, nothing amazing, but we just got a meatball sub and an italian meat sub, so I wasn't expecting to be blown away. We didn't see the waitress again until we were 95% done eating, she just sat eating lunch with everyone else, never came to check if everything was ok, never got us refills, eventually, she walked over, stayed on the level that's a step down, and got about 8 feet away and literally yelled "you guys all set?" and that was it. Had she come even close to the table she could have seen our water and soda had been empty for most of the meal.
Absolutely terrible service, maybe people can have better luck at dinner time, but I won't give them another chance, I'd rather eat some meatballs from Ikea. I tipped accordingly and have to say it was the first time I tipped less than 20% in I can't even tell you how long, I only hope she realized it's because she was a terrible waitress and not just that we were cheap. -

Would go here more often (weekly!) if we didn't have to get into the Long Wharf construction traffic on I95 to get there!
We can always count on an excellent meal, reasonable prices and great service. They remember us every time and treat us like family - have even had them send us over a special dessert made just for us and had I known they were going to do that, I wouldn't have stuffed myself silly on the delicious rolls!
Recommend for any occasion - it isn't necessarily a "romantic" restaurant, but you can get a cozy table for two and make it romantic or you can have a huge party.
Love Brazi's! -

I've been coming here for years and I have yet to be totally displeased. I think that they have gone downhill slightly since we first started going I would say 8 or 9 years ago but the food and service is still good. If you've been there for that long, you'd know that everybody that works there treats you like family. The service is almost always great and they always very nice and courteous. The food is good. It's not terrific, but it's good enough. Even if it's not the best food out there, at least it's consistent. I don't think I'll ever stop coming here. Great restaurant!

If I had nowhere else to eat, I'd eat here. I mean if other places are closed, it's an option, but I wouldn't choose it first. The atmosphere is lame. The place needs a makeover BADLY. It felt like a cheap restaurant in Old Las Vegas, but with prices that were too high. I was almost expecting a waitress to come around saying "Cigars and Cigarettes", but a lanky, forgetful waiter came instead. His service was tipped accordingly. The salad...GROSS! The sauce, not too flavorful. We were annoyed quickly. I must not have noticed 8 years ago when my company had an event there. The sausage and peppers was great then. Without the benefit of group comraderie...IT SUCKS!

I feel like I have to start this by saying that Brazi's is pretty damn good. I basically say this because it might be all I need to say.
I will use a different format this time though. This will be a 1. 2. 3. type review.
1. The food.
At the end of the day this is what any good restaurant is all about. Brazi's serves authentic Italian food {New Haven style}. If you are not familiar with this style of Italian here is a quick explanation. New Haven is between two of the migrant Mecca's of America {NYC and Boston}. Tons of Italian immigrants flooded into these two ports in the early 1900's. After a fair amount of population over crowding some of the Italians decided to jump ship and found New Haven. So our Italian food is an amazing mix of styles ranging from the sea food recipes of Tuscany to the sauces and pizza from Rome and beyond. Brazi's is the definition of New Haven Italian. They might have one of the best pizzas in the area. I know everyone in the area will tell you to go to Pepe's or Sally's but, I don't know if they have been to Brazi's. Last time I was there I got elbows deep in a steak pizziola that as I write this I am dreaming of it.
2. The service.
Just right. Not too pushy, not too invisible. Fresh grated parm at the table, oil and balsamic for the fresh brick oven bread and tons of great wine were available at our command. They were really knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. Sometimes the accents are a little thick but you can push right through and understand everything. The management is right on too. After getting my steak Val {manager} shot over to my table to make sure that my first bite was everything it should have been. When he saw my face light up he made sure that I had the perfect dessert sent over to my table {free of charge} to complete my meal. This place makes me feel like I am at my grandmother's house and the food and good times are flowing freely.
3. The location.
Not the best but, it is New Haven and that is what New Haven is. Hidden gems. Brazi's is in a building that is connected to a fresh meat packer and a cheese place. BTW they get their cheese and packed meats from these people.
Overall this is the place I go to when I want real comfort food served fresh and hot. I commend Val and the Brazi's crew for giving me the meals I remember.
So long and mahalo,

Brazis is a good mainstream Italian restaurant in a nondescript location with fairly pleasant decor. It's not shout-out loud great but the service is good and a pretty safe bet for unfussy food with a little bit more style than your usual pizza parlor. Suitable for groups and catering also.

One of the best Italian food I've had! This place is really traditional, a bit scary almost, because I feel like its owned by the Italian mob. The pasta is amazing and the service s pretty friendly! Its a good place to go for dinner.

We went there a few times and it was awesome everytime. The brushetta is flavorful. The eggplant parm is the bomb its done just right not fried till the cows come home. The pasta special dish with artichokes, roasted pepper ans mushrooms was very healthy tasting (lets face it CARBS). Would recommend it the only issue is that it gets the crowd from Long Wharf Theater and it can get a bit crazy.

Brazi's has increased it's prices AND decreased the portion size. Our salads were pitifully tiny and so were the entrees. Raising prices might be necessary in these economic times, but don't charge more AND serve less. That's a rip-off!
