Passion fruit. Maracuya. I have found the thing I've been looking for lo these many years. No more namby-pamby orange-passion juice which barely graces the exquisitely tart flavor of real live passion fruit. We wandered in here on a cold Saturday night and I just wanted to look around-I'd never been in a Brazilian grocery store and felt it's bright lights beckoning me. I saw lots of things of interest including very tiny foil cupcake liners that are actually for candy but now I know where to get them if I ever make cupcakes for dolls or say, dieters. Anyway, there they were-rows of bottles on shelves of concentrated juices-cashew (yowie! will try later)mango, guava, pineapple and of course passion fruit. I considered the people who had to wrest all that passiony goodness from the seeds and peel, thus making it possible for me to concoct mousses and drinkies and maybe some sort of glaze for chicken and gosh knows what else. How could people walk by this rack to buy whatever else?
I bought a bottle for a mere $2.75 and was so excited that when we got to our place of eating down the street i plonked the bagged bottle on the seat next to me so noone would eye it jealously and what happened? It fell off. Broke. Actually, it exploded. I apologized profusely for my mishap yet marveled at the tantalizing fragrance which then enveloped the area, along with my bag and shoe. I tasted a bit that had landed on my arm and it was heaven. 'Specially with the addition of sugar and whatever else. Anyway thankfully there were only a couple people in the restaurant and I went back to Brazilian Corner the next morning and bought three bottles. Did I mention they have frozen passion fruit as well? Be still my beating heart. -

Sometimes caffeine just doesn't do it for me. On the once every six months occasions when I'm crashing badly (or I just really want to mess with my friends) I wander down to the corner and buy a big GIANT bottle of guarana infused goodness. Screw anyone who tells me they want a quiet night in with their bf/partner/love of the moment - I'll make you antsy and then we'll go out dancing!! I always get my way!!!
PS - you can also buy GIGANTIC bags of rice here, quite helpful for vegans and penniless folk alike (hooray b/c I'm both).
