Best Feature: Really great interior, great drink selection
    Worst Feature: ---

I had the chance to visit this pub recently and found the entire experience very satisfying. We were there for a group event and they'd allowed us the entire upstairs for the post-conference festivities. I entered to see a lot of dark wood and cozy lighting and the hostess very nicely directed me to the stairs.

When I got to the top, there was plenty of table / booth seating as well as bar seating. I took a spot at the bar and checked out their beer list - holy cow, very nice list! I'm a huge fan of the Young's Double Chocolate Stout, so any pub that offers that automatically gets some points. Despite my affinity for the stout, I opted for Bell's White Winter Ale on tap. It was VERY good!

We spent several hours in the place drinking + chatting it up, and I can happily say I had a great time. The service was great and the drink selection was exactly what I'd hope for from a pub-like venue. I didn't get a chance to try the food, however, so I'll be sure to be back to check out the noms.

If you're looking for a good Irish / American pub feel and some good drinks, I'd definitely stop in here! All the staff I met was friendly, the drink selection was fabulous, and I love the cozy, clean, and spacious interior with both the first and second floor.

My second visit to Brazenhead.  It's cool inside, food is average, prices are above average.  Nice looking Irish bar inside and out, upstairs and down.

Unfortunately my opinion of my visit is colored by identity theft very shortly after paying with a particular credit card.  A few days after paying for our meal with a certain credit card, several fraudulent charges appeared, even though I still had my card in my possession.  It was a card I had only previously used at home improvement stores, never out of my possession.  I'm unable to prove the staff at the Brazenhead are guilty, but it's too much of a coincidence to suspect otherwise.  If you have had a similar experience, call Officer Bryant at the Mason Police Department 513.229.8560.

My first visit to the Brazenhead was over a year prior:  late afternoon on a weekday.  I had seated myself at the bar but after ten minutes without seeing a bartender or server, I left with nothing to eat or drink and went down to BWW.

I have sort of a love/hate relationship with Brazenhead. As far as bars go, I think that it's pretty cool. There are 3 floors, so there is plenty of room. It's a very large open space, but somehow still feels cozy. they have a pretty good beer selection, and at night the downstairs has a DJ, and a little bit of a club feel to it. There aren't a ton of cool places to really go out to on the weekends up in mason, so in that respect I really appreciate it as a drinking option.

The food is kind of hit or miss. Some of their dishes are really good, and some are awful. Their spicy coleslaw is one of the worst things I've ever had. It's not sweet at all, it's not even very spicy. It just tastes like weird salty/milky cabbage. I also really hate how they play god with classic dishes. The fish and chips for example... the fish comes on a bed of potato chips (Edit: You can get it on a bed of regular fries, but you have to ask for it). The ruben isn't even a real ruben. Turkey is the only meat option (Edit: I have been informed that you can actually order it with corned beef), and they've replaced the sauerkraut with their nasty spicy coleslaw. I would have given 4 stars, but this mutilation of 2 of my favorite dishes is unforgivable. The fish and chips isn't bad by the way, it's just kind of... wrong. The only other major complaint is the price. It's not horrible, but I'd just expect it to be a little cheaper being a pub and all. With just an entree and a beer a piece, my fiance and I rarely make it out of here for under $50.

Overall Brazenhead is a pretty cool place. It's worth checking out if you live in the area. I really want to give it 4 stars, I just can't bring myself to do it for the aforementioned reasons.

It had been a while and the last time was not very good. But we decided to try it again and the food is better - the price is still steep but the mgr made our visit worth it. He said they hired a new chef and changed about 60% of the things on the menu. The fish platter is great! I dont really like fish but other do and got it and it looked great! They said it tasted the best!

Unfortunately, Brazenhead is not exactly my favorite spot to raise a pint and give out a hearty, "slainte."

Granted, Brazenhead has some fine brews on draught (Young's Double Chocolate Stout, to name just one). And each pint was perfectly poured and had a nice head. The price is on par with pretty much everyone else these days. Unless of course we're talking about their growler prices which are insane! Laughable! Twenty-five big ones if you want a growler of the common stuff and thirty-five if you want to enjoy some Young's from the jug at home. Let's not be silly!

Enough with the beer though. Let's discuss the food. It was decent. The descriptions sound phenomenal but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. We tried the grilled chicken sandwich with rashers and Boursin cheese. There just wasn't a lot of flavor and that sandwich should be crazy with flavor. Bacon and Boursin, so dreamy! But the sandwich was so everyday. And my husband's Schlow burger was nothing to write home about, either. I'm not sure what Brazenhead meant by "Tabasco onions" but they just seemed like fried onions to me. Also, the burger was dry and the horseradish was underwhelming.

I almost forgot to mention the coleslaw! It's warm and salty. It's awful. Awful, awful, awful! And they serve it with almost every meal. Why?! Why make an average meal sub-par by serving that to your patrons? It's just perplexing. There were six people in our party and EVERY single one of us commented on how terrible the coleslaw was.

Do yourself a favor, Brazenhead: Remove or improve your coleslaw. You're only hurting yourself.

All that and some women who were all gussied-up for the evening kept playing really awful house music on the jukebox. It was a strange experience, indeed.

But the service was great and the actual restaurant itself is nice and cozy. Too bad the mediocre food and weird environment will prevent us from finding another comfy little nook and settling in for a few pints.

We came tonight with friends. We got a table right away but the service took forever. We sat over 10 minutes before the waitress ever acknowledged we were there. Our drink order was placed after 25 minutes. The food also took forever (almost 40 minutes). On top of that our waitress was clueless!!! She couldn't do more than one thing per trip. SERIOUSLY she couldn't get a tartar sauce, ketchup and Barbeque sauce in one trip. IT TOOK 3 TRIPS!!!! Go somewhere else.

I had a great time at Brazenhead but only because of the company I was with.

We had a large party of 12 guys. We called several days in advance to make sure they'd reserve a table for us, and they did. They saved us a nice table for 8 in a corner of the basement.

The floor was cover in grease. Slick & grose.

The waitress got our beers mixed up, while 3 young teenage bus boys got our plates mixed up.

I ordered the Filet Mignon. The quality of meat was not a $18 steak quality. On the side i had some lukewarm mashed potatoes and sad steamed veggies.

They clearly don't care about the quality of their "finer" meals. They only care about being a burger and beer joint.

They have a pretty good selection of beer but not that great.

    My friends burgers looked good.

If you're looking for fine Irish dining, this is not the place.
BUT if you're looking for overpriced beer & burgers, this place was meant for you.

Not a busy night, yet service is poor.  I have not seen my server in the 40 minutes since I ordered.  Yeah food just arrived.  Funny, I thought the chips in fish & chips were actually fries.  Not in this case, $13 for two pieces of fish, some slaw and a handful of fried potato chips.  The Guinness is good, but how do you ruin a good beer?

The has potential, it looks great inside, perhaps just poor management and staff.

"It's just like you stepped into Ireland!" exclaimed a friend as he walked over to our group who had been patiently waiting 1.5 hours to be seated. Yes. It was, indeed, just like stepping into Ireland - if Ireland had been established in 1971 and built by the people of Mason, Ohio.

We arrived at 8pm and it wasn't very busy - I'm guessing they made us wait 1.5 hours so we had time to soak up the ambiance. After finally being seated, we had the chance to order. After glancing over the authentic Irish fare, we had a hard time deciding whether to get the spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips or the mozzarella sticks. (We went for the spin dip.) The waiter, having realized that I probably had enough vegetables in the dip, decided I didn't need that salad I ordered which was thoughtful of him.

After dinner we decided to check out the bar downstairs, and were surprised it's such a family-friendly place - even at 10pm in the evening. Little children were happily running around throwing darts and one mother even lifted her child up to stand up on the booth so he could dance to the DJ's club music. I can't tell you how much Enrique Iglesias brings back memories of my time spent in the countryside of Doolin.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because they have Magners on tap which goes a long way with me, although they had apparently been slipping me Strongbow instead, according to my tab. Now I know how all of the victims of the Folgers coffee switch felt.

As I left, I passed a 1-man acoustic Nickelback cover band sitting in the waiting area. I'll never forget the sounds of Ireland.

I confess I was a bit concerned going here, what given the previous reviews and the fact that despite it being late on a Saturday night, this lovely faux-Irish pub was almost completely deserted.  However, desertion worked to the benefit of my massive party since we were seated immediately in the roomy lower level.  The staff quickly put a couple tables together and arranged a collection of benches and seats that left us able to communicate but with enough elbow room to throw back a pint.

I do confess I was a bit disappointed by the menu - the Irish inspired items are at a bare minimum, and there is a strangely heavy focus on Tobasco.  It's as if despite the gorgeous wooden bars, Gaelic script, and interesting decor, the place really wants to just be a U.S. sports bar.  However, there are just enough items on the menu to keep in interesting.  I myself went with the Shepherd's pie, and my meal-sharing companion got the bangers and mash, intriguingly made with pheasant, venison, and wild boar.  Other dining companions tried things ranging from chicken salad to BLTs, and though prices were a bit high, none of us were disappointed.

I will say I wouldn't go by Brazenhead for authenticity, but our meals were good.  Our group started off with some buffalo chicken dip which I found myself liking even though I am not fond of buffalo sauce in general.  The dip was creamy and rich, with plenty of bite, and had a number of good sized bites of chicken.
When the entrees arrived, neither my Shepherd's pie nor the bangers and mash had much gravy on them, but that was fine by me and my companion since we are not very fond of the substance.  The dearth of the sauce made it easier to savor the rich flavor of the meat that made up the hearty pie, and permitted me to make out the subtle differences in the 3 types of sausage (of which there were two large links each). Meanwhile, I couldn't help but steal a few of the hand-cut "chips" (hand-made potato chips - soft with a crispy edge which is how I like them best) from another companion, and the tasty onion rings were passed round for folks to try.  And yes, they have a good range of beers on tap...even I indulged in a thick and frothy Guinness though I was sorely tempted by the Harp.    I understand the margarita one companion had was also very nice.

Service was fantastic, with one young woman working the entire table, but managing to do so quickly and correctly, all with a friendly demeanor.  Despite the size of the party, our appetizers and entrees came out quickly.  The place was also very clean, including in the large bathroom.  Those facilities are on the basement level, but luckily there is an elevator to help the infirm and inebriated.

Overall, were I to judge Brazenhead against other Irish pubs in the states, I would have to rate it a low due to its limited menu.  However, judging it by the quality of food and service alone, I am willing to give it a good rating - particularly given the efficiency of our server.  Ultimately, though, I admit that I will not be too quick to seek out other branches of the chain.  After all, if I want Irish food, Claddaugh and McCarthy's have a broader menu; if I want sports-pub-grub, there are many places with better prices.  Brazenhead is good, but needs to decide for sure what it wants to be.  Still, for a nice night out, a pint of Irish beer, or just a slightly unique meal out, it's not a bad place to give a try.

I'm disappointed. I think that sums up my feelings on this one. I like to give praise, I try to find a silver lining and I'm usually a pain when it comes to ordering. Carrie L. will tell you. I have to ask at least 3 questions and change at least 1 thing about the menu item when I order. However, this time. I didn't. Swear. I ordered right off the menu.
Greg B. and I ran in to Brazenhead after a work event to escape the rain and wind down after a long work day. It was pretty empty. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food. I, as I said, ordered straight from the menu. A salad with chicken. Simple. The salad did not originally come with chicken, BUT it did list that adding chicken to the salad was an option and that I could do so for $3. So I did. But, when the salad came, it was the smallest salad I have ever seen and I had to practically squint to see the chicken. Sincerely, there were 3 pieces the size of a quarter each. Not at all worth $3!!!
I'm not one to mind to spend good money on great food. But, I spent $3 on scraps. Not awesome. Not a fan. Don't think I'll be going back for the food.

Why did I come here when the Yelp reviews were so dismal?

Well, it looked really nice from outside, and the environment inside was actually really great.  I sat down with a work group and two of us ordered the beer sampler.  I'm not sure what it is about 4 small glasses of beers that takes so long to deliver to the table, but we waited over 10 minutes for our drinks.

Finally after all drinks were served, meal orders were taken, and I was surprised the food actually arrived in a somewhat timely manner.  I started with the tomato soup- but was slightly confused by it.  I didn't really taste tomatoes at all, and at first thought I had the wrong soup delivered (was this chili?), but realized it actually was my soup, there was just a ton of overwhelming seasoning.  I guess they concentrated all the flavor into the soup, because I was then completely underwhelmed with what was on my plate.  The steak was just ok, and my orzo pasta and spinach side had no flavor to it.

Overall, a very "meh" experience.  At least the setting and the company was good!

Would I return?  I might give it another shot if I were in the area and wanted to sit belly up to the bar for just some drinks.  Otherwise?  No chance.

Brazenhead is enormous!  3 levels, plus outdoor seating.  This place will accomodate the largest of large groups!

The bars themselves are just beautiful!  We were told, at least one of them, was an authentic Irish bar, which was disassembled in Ireland, shipped and reassembled to beautifully decorate Brazenhead located in Mason, OH!  Impressive!

The food is exactly what you'd expect, but has more options than most Irish restaurants.

I enjoy Brazenhead because if offers different experiences on each floor.  My friends and I have eaten dinner here several times and our food was delicious each time.  I was slightly upset when I realized at my last visit that they had removed my favorite item from the menu.  The waitress suggested another item and had the kitchen alter it so that it was as close to the original as possible.  I loved it!  Our food did take quite a while but I did not mind as I knew there was a large group (anniversary party) downstairs and that I had ordered a semi-custom item.  The waitress was very attentive and apologized for the delay.  She also was well-informed about their selection of beers and made some good suggestions.

There is usually a wait for a table on a weekend night but we didn't mind.  We just sat at the bar and enjoyed some great beer!  In contrast to many reviewers, I have always had great service at Brazenhead.

After dinner we usually downstairs to enjoy the dj.  There is always quite a few people dancing and everyone seems friendly.  There are also dart boards and pool tables.  I probably wouldn't go out of my way to drive to Mason for Brazenhead, but like to visit if I'm in the area.

Irish pubs in America tend to conform to a simple formula: borrowed authentic Irish pub name (in this case from a pub in Dublin) + Irish flags + random Gaelic words + Guinness. Brazenhead took this formula and, in traditional American fashion, added a multiplier (3 floors worth). The result is mixed, especially in the restaurant. Our restaurant service was slow and, dare I say it, tense. The Irish staples are average, although I'm not sure that can be considered the fault of the kitchen. Authentic Irish food is simple and hearty by design so if you're not craving Irish stew, go elsewhere in this price range.

Despite any misgivings about the restaurant, the basement pub floor, on its own, hits the nail on the head. A large bar, pool table, dart boards, and NFL Sunday Ticket make this an ideal place to watch Sunday afternoon football (though this floor is frustratingly closed for Sunday Night Football(WHAT???)). Entering through the basement side entrance and playing pool with my brother while drinking a couple pints of Guinness is what the pub experience is all about and makes me long for another Irish vacation. I just wish the restaurant floor didn't make me long for my own couch and a sandwich.

As the previous reviewer stated, "I really want to like this place."  The exterior and the interior design of the restaurant would lead you to believe that Brazenhead is a great location for dining and entertainment, but the food and service will probably change your mind.

Dcor is reminiscent of Claddagh's...heavy wood and dim lights set a perfect mood for beer guzzling and/or romance, depending on your mood.  A mast of a huge boat (named Brazenhead) graces the ceiling of the restaurant.  Murals are everywhere, and each one has been hand-painted by a well-known Irish artist.  The restaurant was warm at the time of our visit, which lent a very cozy feel to the dining area.

The food leaves a lot to be desired.  The Fish and Chips were nothing special (the batter was a bit soggy), for an Irish pub they should be delicious.  The Shepherd's Pie was so bland my mom pushed it away almost untouched.

We were greeted by a punk-rocker hostess whose short skirt was bordering on pornographic.  Food service was slow (we waited a ridiculous 45 minutes to get our entrees) and our waitress was unfriendly. Had it been a particularly busy night, I would have overlooked the speed and attitude, but we were literally the only diners in the entire section of the restaurant.

I haven't been back to Brazenhead since this less than mediocre experience, though I'm willing to give it a try again...if only to sit at the bar and enjoy the array of beers and whiskey the restaurant has to offer.  The food, I'll live without.

It's cliche to say it, but I really want to love this place.  Great building, cool atmosphere, sorely needed slightly upscale bar for the area.

Unfortunately, I have been consistently underwhelmed by management.  They are always "out" of something, and their beer menu hasn't been updated in years, despite many changes.  It can't cost that much to update your paper menus folks!

However, I always have a good time.  The beer list is pretty solid, and priced cheap.  And there are three levels with different vibes usually running through each.  If your not having a great time, move up or down a floor.

My friend and I stopped in to have a beer before meeting up with some people. The service was okay. We each had one beer and the were $5 each. I paid for both on my credit card ($10 plus tax)and left $2 cash as a tip. About a week later i'm going through my credit card statement and see that I was charged $12.

I understand $2 isn't a huge amount of money but I didn't like that they doubled the tip when the service was already only so-so.

I called the manager to ask if he could verify the amount on his receipt. At first he acted as if I should not be concerned with a $2 difference but promised to research the issue.

A day or so later he calls to tell me my $2 will be at the hostess stand (not credited back to my card) and that if I asked for him they'd "give me a free appetizer or something". He didn't seem super concerned about the whole situation.

I never took him up on either. If you go there check your cc statement or pay with cash.

Although the atmosphere is 2nd to none... The food quality has tanked over the past 6 months. Owner(s) if you give a damn, get the gimmicky shit off your menu ASAP and stick to quality... My boyfriend brought me here for the half price barbecue wings.  And they were delicious.  Since then, I've had the fish'n'chips, which I thought were great.  The batter was crispy and relatively light.  I also really liked the chips.  I've tried a few of the desserts and they were all tasty.  The atmosphere is great, you just have to ignore the occasional whorish waitress.  Our waitress was very nice, and attentive to refilling water.  Any time I've been there, busy or not, the service has been good.  Sadly, my bf is moving back to Michigan and I probably won't have a chance to get back here again. :-(

    "meh" is right.

i was looking forward to a burger, some good beer, and time spent with a good friend, and ended up with a mediocre experience.

i was greeted by two disgruntled hostesses, and my waitress was ~10 minutes late.  when she finally came around, she didn't know beer very well (didn't know what a porter was).  she wasn't very helpful and was, at times, even rude.

my burger was pretty good, and my beer was pretty good, but my fries were cold and ketchup-less.

in their defense, the atmosphere is better than most irish pubs i've been to.

if i return, it will only be because of the convenience of location.  not because of service.  my expectations will be even lower next time...

We were really looking forward to going  to this restaurant and chose a family birthday for the event. There were 8 of us in the party.  Unfortunately, all did not go well.

The appetizer sampler came with only half of the items - they were out of the other half. Four of us could not get the meals we selected from the menu. They were out of the items. The food was average at best. Service was slow and inattentive.  It ended up being a disappointing place to choose for a family celebration.

We have talked about trying it again, but the first experience was so disappointing, there's little impetus to go again. Having recently returned from Ireland, we had hoped that this restaurant would become a neighborhood place that we would enjoy for years to come. Doesn't look like that will happen.

I tried out Brazenhead with the husband's family for a birthday dinner.  The building itself is very cool, though that is probably a slightly biased opinion because I am so partial to restaurants in houses.  The food was fine, I guess, just nothing terribly exciting.  I had the Guinness beef stew, which was filling but not exactly mouth-wateringly delicious... and I felt very full but lacking that just-ate-a-good meal satisfaction.  Eric got the bangers and mash that was tasty enough.  His aunt tried two soups that she did not like- Eric tried her beer cheese soup and reported that it was gross, and he loves beer.  I didn't venture any further.  There is a lot of space which makes this good for big groups and I guess there was nothing exactly terrible about it, but nothing about my experience makes me want to drive out to Mason to try it again.  I think it's only a 3 because I liked the building.
