I love the Brat Store.
Nancy has the best stuff. Super cool & cute clothes plus fun kitsch & knick-knacks. -
Review from Tess M.
Whether dotage, grunge nostalgia, or both; of late I've been compelled to dress like the Brawny Paper Towel lumberjack icon. Yes, plaid! It's a manly, no-nonsense, powerful look with my work boots and leggings.
I tried to man up at Brat but the perfectly-matched-plaid-ladies flannel shirts - currently $12 each or two for $20, while supply lasts - refused to let my waning femininity slip away. Faux pearl buttons, roll-up sleeves and a little tie in back to cinch it for every and all, timeless, hourglass bodies.
Darn near everything else is on sale too! http://bratstore.com/Listed in: Threads..., Lookin' Good, Holiday Survival

Across from the cemetery I just reviewed, is a lovely store called Brat!! I love this place, Nancy the owner I have known for years! Remember NANA'S? Yep, she is awesome. She was also the owner of that company as well. She always has unique and different clothes, puff sleeves, a personal favorite, gifts, books, and more. Her store always has the hip more unusual things you will not find in any mall.
Her shop is a joy as is she. She always advertises all the really cool upcoming events. She sells tickets sometimes to some events like Lucha Va Voom, Electric Daisy Carnival, and some other events. Her store is good for both guys and gals! There is a little something for everyone! A must when you are in Santa Monica. She even carries a line of clothing for the little ones.
She opens by 12.00 noon, I would check the hours before you go.She is a fantastic woman and has been in the alternative scene for years, she has been in the clothing industry as long and she knows her stuff. I love and adore Nancy, her store is a Gem. She and her businesses have been a part of this community as long as I have been here. She has watched many of us grow and change. I have been shopping at her stores since I was thirteen years old. I am lucky and grateful she and her clothing stores have continued to be a part of my life for so many years! Hat's off to BRAT STORE!!!
You can check out the BRAT website for more information about upcoming events. She always seems in the know. NANCY RULES!Listed in: Shopping fun 101

Review from Terry K.
Had dinner plans in the neighborhood and wanted a gift for my friend who is pregnant. Started looking for a baby type gift and what a pleasant experience
Not many "baby" things but found a few things none the less. I am guessing the woman who helped me was the owner. She's great! and very helpful.
Another future stop for me -

What a cute little store this is. I almost feel like it belongs more on Melrose Blvd or SOMEWHERE in the weird eclectic sea of Hollywood. Well, maybe that's me being selfish because it would bring the Brat closer to me... it's probably the only Brat that I want closer to me.
The Brat Store offers an array of very unique clothing pieces and accessories, and other fun stuff. By fun stuff I mean silly magnets (I'm a huge fan of those!) and the band-aids shaped like bacon strips as one Yelper mentioned - though I personally liked the band-aids that looked like yellow caution tape better - perfect for me since I'm such a walking disaster!
My cousin and I happened to come on a day where Nancy was selling some SWEET outerwear for 50% off the marked price. I mean seriously. I could have had me a sweet belted peacoat for just over $30. If it weren't for the fact that I'm SERIOUSLY trying to stay on a budget now, AND I needed to buy something for my friend's birthday before I bought anything for myself, I would have TOTALLY gone buck wild on that. I was SOOOO jealous when my cousin was sporting her new coat. But hey, at least I know where to go next time when I need inexpensive but trendy and cute apparel!
Nancy, the funky red-headed spinster who owns this place (and I describe her with the highest compliment) is, as other Yelpers have said, VERY nice. She was very accommodating and helped me immensely with finding a last minute birthday gift for a friend of mine.
I'd say the only things I wish the Brat Store did differently are:
1) I wish they carried more earrings and necklaces - then it'd REALLY be a five-star store in my book!
2) They made their sign a little more visible. Cuz and I were lucky to come on a day where few people were out because it was raining, and there was ample parking. But I think during regular sunny days in LA it would be easy to miss this place - and believe me, this is one Brat you won't want to miss!Listed in: Hope your credit limit is…

I am so glad I finally took the time to pull over on my drive to Pico and take a look inside Brat! Located in a nondescript section of 14th street, Brat is tiny and easy to miss.
Once inside, it's a visual feast! The small space is jam-packed with tons of fun goodies, from keychains to witty t-shirts to hamburger earmuffs. (Was trying so hard to think of someone whose birthday was coming up so I could have an excuse to buy those.)
I believe that Nancy was the one who was in the store today when I went in. She was so warm and helpful. I asked her about Paul Frank pajamas, and she explained the whole system of Paul Frank products (faschinating, by the way), and showed me what she had.
I'll definitely be back to peruse the small goodies and accessories as well as the t-shirts and sweatshirts. As far as the more serious clothes (dresses, blouses, pants, etc), I wasn't too sure about the quality of some of them, but considering how unique they were I think it's worth a bit of a trade off.Listed in: Dinner Under $20 In Los…, Santa Monica Clothing Stores

I LOVE Brat! There is always something for everyone. I find it hard to go there with the intent on "just shopping for a gift" and not treat myself as well. Although I often do indulge, the prices are so reasonable that you can and not feel guilty. It's the perfect one stop shop for great, quirky, edgy, artsy, kitschy, unique, off the wall, fun gifts, many great hand made items by local artists and awesome clothes, books and more.
Not only are the store items amazing, but the store owner Nancy is the kindest, most fabulous person you'll be delighted to meet. I can't say enough about her. I have been going to Brat since I discovered it about 6 years ago and I love it more and more each time I go.
My favorite store in Santa Monica hands down! -

Unique-off-beat goodies! From funky clothing to funny trinkets.
I bought a super cool fifties summer dress here and it was only $29. Cute plaid-rock-a-billy blouses for sexy kittens.
Neo-Vintage gear at very reasonable prices. Cool birthday presents, something for everyone! -

JACKPOT!!!!!!!!!!
This has got to be the coolest store in Santa Monica! I was raised on
Na Na's and I was sad to see it go, but what Nancy has created is so much FUN! A true gem! There are even cool clothes for the young-ins. I always feel like I score the best stuff when I stop in and I have to say the owner has the most impeccable taste in music! It's always fun to take your time and look at everything that this amazing little store has to offer. If you're in the area, stop in! If you're not in the neighborhood drive over! You will be so happy you made the trek. I would also suggest going to the website and signing up for their weekly email that always has neat stories and cool local events/shows to check out. -

Every time I go into this store, I always leave with a jem! This store has so many things I can spend a good amount of time in there! I remember when it was back on 3rd st and it is still an amazing store.
I just recently went in there and it was just as I thought it was going to be! A magical experience!
You can also pick up tickets to shows/events here.
It's a all around wonderful store. -

So here's the truth. When you approach the store at first glance its a little overpacked and you think to yourself its a second hand store, upon further review you realize there's a lot of nice things in there. It does feel mainly like a clothes shop, though there are some gifts as well.
Its not 5 stars for two reasons,
One the decor, if we just past in front of the shop we wouldnt have gone in and there hasnt been a lot of care put into what the actual space looks like, and we sort of hesitated.
Two you can't really shop for the average (even young) guy there. I honestly tried to find something to suit at least one guy, but honestly i couldnt find a thing.
Oh and honestly, there was so much sock monkey stuff, is this really still popular? -

All I can say is why did it take me so long to go to this place. The brats were AMAZING!! I had the Cheese which was super flavorful and juicy my husband had the Hungarian which had the perfect amount of spiciness and my brother had the big Texan which he loved. Also the homemade ketchup and mustard's pair perfectly with the Brats. I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to go back!!!

Brat is the greatest! My old roommie turned me onto this tiny outpost of fashionista fun 5 or 6 years ago and I must confess my wardrobe is full of bratty behaviour.
The prices can't be beat, the selection is large and ever-changing and the combination of friendly mid-western charm mixed with angeleno artiness makes it a fun place to visit any time!
No matter where I go, people comment on my clothes and accessories from Brat. It's a best-kept Westside secret. Shhhh... -

My boyfriend and I come here whenever there is a birthday, a baby shower, or a few minutes with nothing to do. And in my closet, all the most reached for clothes came from Brat, from grungy T-shirts to meeting dresses. It's a great neighborhood addition. Say Hi to Nancy, but she'll most likely say hi first.

Some cute, well-priced clothing. Good customer service. Lots of neat, unique little items that would make exceptional gifts. Well-kept place. I'm surprised it's so tucked away. If you visit, you can also stop by the massive adjacent graveyard.

Aside from the history (thanks, Tess et al.!), Brat is a wonderful place to spend a bit of time and some money too. I went there looking for a gift for my sister's ASU graduation (I got to hear Barack speak!), and I knew exactly what I wanted. While Brat didn't have it, the owner (I think she was the owner, anyway) CARED about my desires, and tried to hook me up, even though it meant shopping at competitors' shops. How cool is that, in this economy? I'll go back and get other things, like cute clothes at decent prices and fun kitschy stuff that's in the rear of the store. There's meter parking in front, by the way, and maybe a lot (I didn't look).

cool! kitschy! original! fun!
there are not enough good adjectives to describe this store!
oh....and one more...
CHEAP!
great clothes and gifts at even greater prices. If you loved the old NaNa, Soap Plant, Wacko or other such places, then this is right up your alley.
The only thing I'm afraid of is that now that I've posted this, this won't be my secret shopping spot anymore....Listed in: Born to Shop

It seems like there are so few shops like this left, where you really feel the personality of the owner rather than the ambiance that the marketing department of some giant retailer has devised. The lovely Nancy stocks her shop with cute and sassy things of all varieties - men's, women's, and kids' clothes, and lots of great random gift items (this is a tried-and-true birthday gift destination for me). Rockabilly and retro types will find plenty that's right up their alley, but I'm not quite either of the above and I still always manage to come away with a reasonably-priced, compliment-getting top or dress. Westsiders, I implore you to check this place out!

Review from Adam B.
Very kitschy clothing store in a hard to find spot off of Pico that kind of what might happen if Spencer Gifts ran a clothing shop. Pretty cool selection of unknown brand clothes at decent prices with a lot of gag and novelty gifts around the place. Coolest example? I kind of liked the Bacon Bandages and the Mexican Mini Luchador figurines. Hey, you could get them injured and then put on the bacon bandages! Up by the cashier there's a bunch of free radio ready promo CDs of alternative artists. But what's with all the Jesus stuff? Is Pat Robertson a co-owner?

Santa Monica's go-to spot for quick gifts and bratty attire in a low-key neighborhood. Love the low prices and punk-fun that satisfies every time. Extra-cool owner and permabrat Nancy sends out a weekly newsletter with the area's can't-miss happenings and insider dish.

I saw this shop on Yelp the other day and decided to go check it out today. It was definitely a fun store and the woman working at the shop was very helpful and nice. They had sooo many cute/costume-y clothes for really, really great prices! They also had tons of fun little gifty-type things (especially for the eccentric person) and jewelry and accessories. I can't wait to bring my friends to check out this shop!

In the '90s, I was hopelessly devoted to NaNa's. Every few weeks, I'd pile on the sunscreen and drive from Las Vegas to Santa Monica just to shop. And shop. And SHOP!
Luckily, today's pilgrimage isn't as far, but just as exciting. Brat is even better than NaNa's (blasphemy, I know)!
Nancy always has the cutest, sassiest, sexiest outfits! I always leave with an armful of bags and spend a fraction of what a day on Melrose or Robertsons would cost. And hanging out there is much more fun!
I'm eterntally a BRAT! -

Brat is one of the coolest stores in L.A. for concerts, local happenings, and clothes, jewelry, hats, and rock and roll accessories! Also, Nancy is the greatest. Do yourself a favor and check this place out! Something for everyone.

If you got that feeling...you need shop-ping healing, go to the Brat Store! If you are NOT a boring person, or you're trying to spice up your look, get your behind over to the brat. Also, friendly prices! During the Holidays you can do your whole list in one store, I'm serious, see for yourself.

Brat is a real neighborhood gem. It's jam-packed with all kinds of cool clothing, gifts, stationery, Paul Frank stuff- you name it! The staff is super friendly and cool, and there's always great music playing, which is a plus because the bad alternative and hip hop at most stores drives me away while Brat's tunes keep me boppin' while I'm shoppin'. I especially love going here when I have to buy a birthday gift because I am guaranteed to find something funny/lovely/hot/eccentric to please anyone I know. I always end up picking up a few things for myself, too, of course. Thanks for the great shopping experience that is anything but normal! XO

Can it really get any better? This store is AMAZING! It is a bright jewel of Santa Monica. Nancy is super fun and is one of the most wonderful people and knows everything. Her prices are very very very fair. She even has a shrine to Elvis.

i often drive all the way to santa monica from east hollywood just to come here. Nancy, the owner and mastermind of NaNa's(RIP), is the sweetest, raddest, shop owner EVER. there's cool clothes for men, women, teens, and even a line of punk rock baby clothes. she's also got tons of one of a kind accessories(jewelry, scarves, hats, gloves, stockings, wallets, purses, etc...), cute pin-upy lingerie, candles, books, toys, i could really go on and on...
this place is about an 1/8 of the size of Wacko in Hollywood, but is even more of a one-stop gift shop. there's always great stuff on sale and Nancy truly loves her customers, aka "brats".
a few of my favorite items there are: Liberace paper-doll book, mini 2 inch boxer shorts that grow to normal size in water, and the gangsta rap coloring book.
i really can't say enough great things about this place and its amazing red-haired punk rock owner. I LOVE THE BRAT!!!! -

I came here to look for an unusual baby gift on my lunch break and I found it. I actually ended up spending about 20 minutes in the store browsing all the cool stuff! The owner was very nice and attentive. She was so nice that it actually made me want to go back asap. If you're in the area, definitely check it out!

Brat is fun. it's a magic place that always has exactly what you want... even if you didn't know you wanted it when you walked in the door. Its filled with cutting edge men & womens clothing (they even carry stuff for the hipster toddler or infant in your life) But the best thing about Brat is the owner Nancy, slim and cool with a fringe of bright red hair and an even brighter smile. She's that very special human, who really cares about everyone who walks into her store. Go ahead, become a Brat shopper, the prices are low, but the vibes are high :)

I can honestly do ALL my shopping at the BRAT -- from babies to grampa! We love the BRAT for shopping and for the support to local bands and artists that Nancy gives! This store is a rare treasure in the land of multiplexes and malls -- one of a kind!

I don't know of another store where I have felt so welcomed. First of all, Nancy (the owner) is funny and sweet and will help you pick out very cute and flattering clothes. Second, There are gift-y things for EVERYONE on your list. Funky sock monkey hats and grown-up coloring books and cute punk rock clothes for babies and adorable dresses and REALLY inexpensive coats. Nancy carries only rad things. I don't think there is anything in this store I don't covet. Oh, and nothing is better than shopping while listening to The Cramps. She doesn't over-price everything and there are gifts for everyone and fun things for yourself (boys too!) at every price point. I can spend 5 bucks on a keychain, or I can walk in freaking out about not having anything to wear for a hoity toity party and Nancy will have me dressed to the 9's within 10 minutes (and accessorized too!). Did I mention the prices? I can shop for myself and not feel like a total a-hole! Viva La Brat and Viva La Nancy!
