This place is probably the best suppertime find if you are in this neck of the woods in North Carolina. I was here for a client site visit and discovered this little gem one weeknight. Very good wine selection, several good beers including Newcastle ale, and more than a few good dinner selections on the menu. The decor was charming and the hostess was friendly and attentive.
This visit I sampled the house specialty, Prime Rib. My plate was filled with the completely-acceptable cut of beef. The stuffed potato was a bit dry and overcooked, but the nice loaf of fresh homemade bread served up by our lovely and charming waitress more than made up for it.
Accustomed to Dallas prices as I was, I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable cost of the meal. And I couldn't have asked for better service. So if you find yourself in Dunn, North Carolina (about 35 miles south of Raleigh-Durham), y'all go and check this place out, ya heah?? -

We were in the mood for some beef so we decided to try the Brass Lantern when we saw he reviews here on Yelp.
The Interstate exit location might give you a negative impression to start off with but be brave, the food is pretty good. The building seemed a little rough around the edges and the decor was a little on the country side of 80's style. The hostess was friendly but the waitress seemed a little on the abrupt side. Her attitude was more New York city than Dunn NC, it seemed really out of place.
My wife and I both ordered prime rib and our daughter ordered the fried shrimp. All meals come with a help yourself salad and fresh bread. The salad bar is just ok featuring 25-30 items. The fresh bread was very good. For the main course the prime rib was very good and my daughter's shrimp were large and plentiful. I always love when I ask for horseradish and I get a cup of it just fine chopped, without mayo or other mixers. Along with the au ju It is the perfect addition to prime rib. We tried baked potato and stuffed (twice baked) potato side. The stuffed potato was great but the baked potatoes were a bit dried out.
I was torn between 3 and 4 stars on this one. Call it 3 1/2 stars. The food is good and is also reasonably priced. But I think the waitress' attitude and the dried out potato pushed my rating down a little. I'd go back to the Brass lantern but I won't be telling my friends that they have to try it. -

Best choice for miles around. Prime rib was generous, cooked to order, tasteful. Medallion of beef was a bit rarer than requested but good; medium, shrimp were average. Baked potato was good, rice was tired. Salad bar slightly above average. People were friendly and fast. We arrived 15 minutes to closing and were welcomed right in.

This is an OK place to eat. I've been there many times. Sometimes the service and food is great, sometimes not. The salad bar is very nice. For the most part the steaks are average, as is the service. It really depends on what waitress you get and what time you go.
