The Vet grossly mis-diagnosed my cat with an Oral lesion disease which would require her losing her teeth one at a time and possible jaw bone scrapping. I agreed
To cleaning and x-Ray costing 350.
Her tooth was fine and just gingivitis. They charged me 500.00 and made up that the extra charge was for "pain management". She was sent home with no pain meds.
The staff were so condescending and Vet never called me after waiting 5 hrs after I dropped her off. She was busy having her lunch! I was so deeply upset about this dx I actually considered putting my two yr old cat down instead of a slow torture of losing all her teeth. I would never go back to this place. Horrible communication except for when they wanted money. I gave a 50.00 deposit to hold the surgery date. That somehow disappeared when the bill came and was not acknowledged. Had a bad experience getting her pain meds refilled a month ago. I was charged a fee bc the Dr was not in on the day I ran out. Horrible and scary time for my cat and I.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Ms. B,
I reached out to you via phone to discuss this, but I have not heard back from you. We recommended a dental cleaning, also known as a Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT) because your pet had signs of dental disease (gingivitis). We were also concerned she may be suffering from a painful condition called feline tooth resorption, a phenomenon that results in painful erosions in the surface of the tooth and/or bony replacement of the roots, but were unable to properly confirm this for your pet during an awake exam. This condition is confirmed with dental x-rays and probing of the teeth, which cannot be done properly, safely, or without pain on an awake animal. This is not a terminal condition and can be treated with tooth extraction. Fortunately, when we had your pet under, and took an x-ray, we were able to determine that she was only suffering from low grade dental disease, of which we treated while she was under.
Your deposit went towards the oral pain meds you requested a refill of before her dental. The charge for pain management was for the dental nerve blocks she received while under. We don’t send patients home until they are fully recovered from anesthesia and maintaining their body temperature on their own, this often take several hours after anesthesia. We apologize for not communicating this enough to you, and will address this with further staff training.
February is National Pet Dental Health Month, so I’d like to take this opportunity to share how important dental health and treatment of disease is for our patients. About 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of dental disease by the age of 3, and this will only worsen if effective preventive measures aren't taken. Routine dental checkups and professional cleanings can help protect your pet and catch problems before they become more serious. Most pet dental disease occurs below the gumline, where you can't see it. Your pet needs a dental checkup at least once a year and a COHAT should be scheduled as soon as the first signs of dental disease are detected in order to prevent further disease.
Please reach out to me to discuss this matter further, as our clients understanding of their pets’ care is of utmost importance to us.
Thank you,
Dr. Cantwell - Jennifer R.Sarasota, FL01Nov 29, 2022
Terrible experience with both my dog and cat. I do not recommend. My cat is sick months later after his dental cleaning that turned out to include 6 extractions that may not have been necessary. They did not use antibiotics and he got a horrible infection. They told me he would be "high" from the anesthesia for up to 3 days after the surgery. This is simply called an overdose and it was miserable for him and me. He has been struggling with a skin problem ever since. The emergency clinic internist is now testing him for Feline Leukemia Virus that he could have caught at Brandt. Initially they thought it was mange, mites, a fungus or bacterial infection. Equally bad scare with my dog being improperly diagnosed. Not a good vet- young and inexperienced. Not a good facility.

This clinic is a joke. My dog has anxiety, and they will not deal with her at all. In fact, they want her drugged so that they do as little work as possible. Stay away if you want to avoid a headache and multiple visits to accomplish simple tasks.

Thank you for your feedback and giving us this opportunity to present some information on what it means to give your pet the benefit of a Fear Free Certified Practice.
Most of us, whether veterinary professionals or pet parents, naturally want to get pets through stressful, frightening, and painful situations as fast as possible. It seems like common sense that this will minimize the fear, anxiety, and stress they experience.
But what behavior science has learned is that it doesn’t work that way. Fear can cause lasting harm to an animal’s brain, creating negative associations that will create a fear response every time they visit the vet for the rest of their life. This can also create stress-related physical symptoms, some of which make diagnosis and treatment difficult or impossible.
The use of Fear Free approaches, including medication when needed, helps to prevent and reverse these fearful associations, allowing us to let the pet gradually stop experiencing fear, anxiety, and stress at the vet. While this may seem to take time at first, it saves time as well as suffering over the longer term.
Again, thank you for this chance to share the benefits of Fear Free, and for your feedback. - Morganne H.Venice, FL091Sep 4, 2020
This place charged my husband and I $1500 dollars and were still unable to diagnose my dog. I took her to another vet and they did basically the same exact thing and charged us $350.
I guess if you have money to blow go ahead and waste it here. As for me, I have three kids and it's a pandemic and here I am struggling to pay bills while these thieves charged us $1500 and couldn't diagnose my dog.
Money down the drain but a lesson learned, and now I have the ability to warn any friends of highway robbery.
And don't even try getting records emailed or faxed. We spent 3 hours battling on the phone with the receptionist trying to get our dogs lab work emailed to a different vet. When we questioned them they questioned us on why we would want a second opinion when things weren't adding up.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Can't speak highly enough of Dr. Cantwell and her feline knowledge. Having a senior cat is a challenge and she has been very thorough, educational, caring and treats my cat like it's her own. Vet Tech Ashley who loves 'spicy kitties' is amazing with mine and I am relieved if she is there during our visits. When your vet calls you to check on not only your pet but you as well, that speaks volumes to the care they provide.

Best Veterinary Clinic ever! I drive all the way from BRADENTON, because my cat Tsuki deserves THE BEST care. This clinic prides in being cat friendly, which is something we highly appreciate. The technicians even wait with Tsuki in the exam room while I check out, so she's not frighten by any doggies that are in the waiting area. The experiences at Brandt are genuine and educated, finally a veterinary clinic I love & trust!
on a side note, check out Dr. Cantwell's manicure are always on point, just sayin'Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Melissa S.Sarasota, FL0252Jan 9, 2019
Clean, comfortable and full of kind people handing out treats to my very nervous dog. They took their time with us, and went the extra mile to make my big little guy calm and secure. Extra bonus points for the soft calming music, the pheromone spray bandana, the literature, and leaving us in the exam room instead of the waiting area. I have never experienced a vet visit like this before, and am so glad to be here now!

This place is okay, but not very open to opinions. It is very clean and a comfortable environment.
however, just a warning, yes, they are paid by purina, science diet, royal canin to promote their food so that is the biased part (all have wheat and grain; if it aint a special formula every cat I have had the food doesn't go down well, and tastes disgusting). They told me a brand without corn and grains is not as good as the brands they are promoting that has them. these foods are not as good as they say (and many other practices are bribed, too). your best bet is homemade (with all essentials!!!!!) or small brands like orijen, opaw, rad cat, primal, natures variety, etc (unless advised against because of specific health issues).
They are super, really pushy on vaccines on well and not up to par with current AVMA reccomendations. They tried to charge $475 for a titer despite it being $150 everywhere else.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Jules,
Thank you for your review. We strive to offer the best care possible to our patients and are very proud to keep our facility neat and clean. While we carry Royal Canin and Hill's Prescription diets, we are not paid by either brand to promote their foods. When making food recommendations for our patients, we recommend foods that have a significant amount of nutritional research to back up their claims. We recommend vaccines based on a patient's lifestyle and use the AAHA and AAFP vaccine guidelines. Rabies titres for Health Certificates are sent to a very specialized lab that is recognized by the World Health Organization to guarantee adequate protection against rabies. For those that are not travelling and looking for a Rabies titre screen, we offer a much less expensive panel. If you have any further concerns about your pets health, please feel free to contact us at 941-485-1555.
Thank you,

You will not find a better veterinary service in this area! From the front desk personnel to the techs and doctors, these are the MOST caring and friendly people ever. They do everything possible to make your pet feel comfortable and cared for, including bandanas sprayed with calming pheromones (which really do work!). We feel so fortunate to have found Brandt Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Hendershot.
