Great local bar.  Not full of freaks or ghetto types- just your every day young Roseville crowd.  My husband and I stay away on Friday or Saturday nights b/c of the crowds but most other times it is a pleasant bar with plenty of room.

They also have really good food and drink specials during the week.  Irish egg rolls and steak sandwich are really good, as are the mac n cheese with hot dogs.  This is also a great place for breakfast on Sundays and is far better than the mediocre food across the street at Pacific St Cafe.

So today i went back to try their lunch menu , well i had to start somewhere so THE RUBEN looked good.
This was THE greatest Ruben i have ever had .Fresh everything , the bread through the corned beef , Holy cow. this is as close to the perfect lunch as i have ever eaten.
Open @11:30 Mon -  Fri and 10am on the weekends.
I was a tad early and seem to have run into the owners!
The only way to describe this run-in is to say ,When you and i were growing up ,there was always this one special house that all the kids seemed to really like to hang around. and that was because the parents were Kind &COOL people,Yep that pretty much describes the atmosphere.

I've been here a few times now and I like it.  Guinness is my standard order, and it's never a stale keg.  Bonus points for the occasional clover drawn on top by the 'tender.

Where you really get the best out of this place is the food.  Shephards pie, potato boats, Irish egg rolls (with corned beef and cabbage inside), burgers and more.  It's all good, just order whatever strikes you.  Or go with friends and order one of each, so you can sample.

Prices are very decent here too.  I usually hit happy hour (not a concerted effort, but I'm usually there before 7 PM), and that makes drinks & food pretty cheap.

There's seating in another room for eating dinner without the bar experience, but I've never been in there.  However, if you don't want to eat in the bar then maybe this is for you.

Went in for lunch, not knowing what to expect. Sat down at the bar, and ordered Irish egg rolls, and the Reuben. Both were delicious.

This is pathetic honestly & a waste of my time to reply. I didn't personally bash anyone, I'm intitled to my opinion just like everyone else. I highly doubt these posts effect peoples choices in places to hang out, it's just a fun way to give a shout out to your favorite places :) as for me hanging out with thugs and douches, that's far from the truth. However I also don't like being surrounded by people who think they're better than everyone else, while they lose their house to support their cocaine addiction :)

So, I can't comment about what this place is like on a Friday or Saturday night but I can tell you that on Sunday mornings (okay it was really afternoon) it is a GREAT place to be.  Some of these reviews seem suspect with all the accusations of knowing the owner and bad feed back from someone who only has one review.

Two of my friends recently moved to the area and came across the great Sunday deal at this place based on a referral from a coworker. What a good little find this turned out to be.

Okay, so it may not be a totally authentic Irish Pub like some of the reviews say, blah blah blah, who the 'eff cares? Besides it's in Roseville people, come on. We're in Cali not Ireland.

Again, I've only been for Sunday breakfast/brunch so keep that in mind. The main draw for us on Sunday was the $10.00 bottomless mimosas.  And TRUST me, they were not stingy with the alcohol! We sat at the bar to have our mimosas and breakfast but they do have a dining area too. Our bartender, I think her name was Christy, was totally awesome.  Our glasses were NEVER empty and some of us put down a good 7-8 mimosas.

The food was really good too.  The Captain Mulligan's french toast, which I believe is sour dough bread coated in captain crunch and deep fried, is sooooooo good.  I know, heart attack waiting to happen but trust me you've got to try it at least once.  Everyone at the bar around us asked what it was. Just a hint in case you get this french toast, skip the syrup, you won't need it. The Irish Scramble was also really good; it had sourdough bread topped with a mixture of eggs, cheese and sausage then smothered in gravy. Again, probably not that healthy for you but oh boy it sure tasted good.

The place was very clean inside, even the bathrooms were really clean which is always a plus in my book.  There are random framed pictures everywhere and in the girls bathroom the pictures are of penis shapes formed by random items, i.e. a cactus that looks like one or a rock formation that looks like one.  I'm told it's a similar story in the guys bathroom only with boobs instead. Amusing bathroom humor while washing your hands and applying lip gloss.

I believe they also have Bloody Mary specials on Sunday mornings, but I never made it past the mimosas.  They also had some interesting Guinness combinations like Stella and Guinness but I never made it around to trying those either. That will be for my next trip.

All in all, great environment, great service, awesome drink deals, yummy food, tv's at the bar to watch the games, you really can't go wrong. Now, if I could just get the pub here in Dublin (Cali not Ireland) to do $10 bottomless mimosas, especially during football season...oh my, that would be good for me and them!

We went again this time to watch a hockey game.  I knew the NBA playoffs were also on that night, but I called ahead of time to Boxing Donkey just to make sure we could watch the game.

We arrive, and the bartender ignores us for a few minutes, then comes over.  My husband is chomping at the bit because the hockey game already started and is anxious to get the channel changed on one of the t.v.'s so he can start watching.  The bartender didn't know how to change the channels.  There are about 10 t.v.'s in the place, and she doesn't know how to work any of them.

Attention Boxing Donkey: Teaching the bartenders how to use the remote controls for the t.v.'s should be a top priority when you're training.

She said she'd try to call her boss to get the channel changed, but she didn't.  She just continued to eat while we sat there waiting for her to do something.

Guess who got our business?  Mandangos.  I am not a fan of Mandango's, but at least they knew how to put the hockey game on.  Actually, the hockey game was already on when we showed up.

I'm done with Boxing Donkey.  I keep trying, and I continue to be disappointed.

This newly opened Irish Pub is off to a good start.  We went there for a family meal and were thrilled with the quality of the food and the bargain prices.    They feature a variety of Irish food, soups/salads, and what I would call kid  or 'food for drunks'.  :-)  Mac n cheese with hotdogs!  Breadbowl stuffed with spaghetti and meat sauce!  My kids had those and LOVED them.   We had dinner for 4 plus 3 beers, 2 shirley temples - bill as $60!

On the negative - you do have to walk through the bar to get to the restaurant.  Not a big deal early in the evening, but it could get weird tromping your kids past the tatooed love boys and girls.

Give it a try.

Hmm, first review is accused of being an owner/friend who's biased, then the 2nd review trashes it but the reviewer has no history either.  Too much suspicious activity for my taste.

Well, we went on a Thursday night to have some drinks and some food, and the truth of the matter is that both of the first two reviews are correct.

The place is shiny new and is more Irish in a couple of their food & beer choices than in their complete atmosphere.  No, I didn't think I accidentally stepped into a Dublin pub, but they do serve a couple of Irish brews, whiskeys and delicacies.  Minus points for not having cider on tap, and for not serving in pint glasses.  Bonus for cheap beer - my two "pints" of Guinness were $6.  Food was tasty and above-average for bars in this area.

It's also an oddly-shaped room inside, so you may not have much space to hang out on a crowded night.  i'd suggest going on an off-night to check it out.

And if you're in a gang, don't bother.  They have a prominently posted dress code in front and a big bouncer dude to keep it clean.

I think the Boxing Donkey is pretty cool. The bartenders and bouncers are always awesome and friendly even when it does get busy. Its not too bad on the wallet either for being a pretty nice and clean place. I tend to go on either a Wed or Thur so I don't know how busy it gets on the weekend. Anyway, there is live music (as in a guy with a guitar) on Thur. He's pretty fun to listen too. He plays mostly older hits such as "Sweet Caroline" (which is for some reason a great bar song... why? I have yet to figure it out, but for some reason I'm always with the group singing it up like we're long lost friends when it comes on.). I hear the food is awesome! They also have a breathalyzer on the wall... I have not tested it, but according to the staff they don't know if it really works or not so there you go...

We finally checked out the Boxing Donkey after hearing about it from my fiance's friend, and I am so glad we did!!

Unlike the other reviews, I did think it looked like a pub in Ireland. The street front especially, just like downtown Galway!!! The wood trim and bright colors on the inside, just like the west of Ireland!! THe place was spotless, at the bar, and behind the bar, a big plus! Now for the food... I had the Irish Cheese Steak, and my fiance had the Irish Reuben. He said it was quite possibly the best Reuben he ever had! Me, I would probably say the same with my Cheese Steak, we both had the fries, which are seasoned, not greasy, just yummy! He had a Guinness, layered perfectly, just like in Ireland.....,I had a glass of wine....I wish they had a better wine selection, but was very happy when I saw Rosenblum!  All in all, everything was great....we had called for directions, and the person that answered the phone was unsure, passed us to someone who was very detailed and attentive, and wanted to make sure we got there without a problem.  When we walked in the door and sat down, someone asked if we were the ones that called, when I said yes, he came over and welcomed us. When we got our food, he came over again to see what we think, and when we told him it was quite possibly the best sandwiches we have ever had, he was genuinely pleased and thankful. I asked him if he was a manager or owner, and he introduced himself as one of the owners, he told us about the place, told us to check out the back, the room on the other side, just very welcoming, very good feeling all around. When we were done eating we took a tour, very nice "VIP" room, seperate eating area away from the bar....and we ran into another worker, another employee who took pride in where they worked. A great place, great food, great people! We will be back!!

Neat little place in historic old Roseville

It claims to be Irish, but other than the occasional bagpipes or Dropkick Murphys music not much Irish

Regardless staff is friendly, the waitresses are totally hot in short skirts and tight tops.

Drinks are really cheap about $3.00 per pint.  I drank Pilsner Urquell and was treated to a cold frosty glass each time.

The only downside is that if you don't know their is a restaurant you go home hungry.  It is back behind the bar around a corner.  Deduct 1 star for that

I did see people with food so I asked and did get a menu.  I ordered the spaghetti sandwich and WOW what a ton of food.  Delicious.

Final total for 7 beers and dinner including tip was $40.00

Not bad for three hours

So I've been reading the reviews of this place and first and foremost I'm not a friend of the owner, nor do I know anyone in that bar. My girlfriend and her coworkers decided to all go out one night bar hopping. We ended up here as our last destination. The main reason for ending her was that her coworker said she had been there on the opening day and it was the best place to stop and get food.
I have to admit the place looks a little rough around the edges and the bouncer does give off a little bit off a rough attitude, although I probably would too if I had to deal with drunks all night. The service was fairly good. Yes the girls wear way short skirts, but who am I to complain? I'm a guy and I like it =)
The food on the other hand is the real reason I wrote this review. IT IS OUTSTANDING! I ordered the burger with the Dubliner cheese and mushrooms with a side of their special onion rings and it was by far the best bar/pub food I have ever had. The owner even took time out of his day to come over, introduce himself, and make sure the food was good. I was shocked and amazed to even see a bar owner much less get asked how my food was from him. On top of all that I think my meal cost less here than at Denny's wish is refreshing considering the food was GREAT.
There was a young gentleman playing on an acoustic electric guitar in the corner entrance of the bar till about midnight or so. He played some pretty good music and sung lots of classics and oldies. I would say it would be cool to get a whole band in there, but I don't think they have the room. Overall I'm very happy with this place. If you read my reviews you know that if I have a bad experience I'll tell you about it. Happy dining yelpers!

Don't you just love rave "reviews" written by the owners of a business or their surrogates (friends, family, employees, etc.)? At least, that's what I can only assume that other "review" must be.

Here's the real deal: this place is no more an "Irish Pub" than I am a Chinese fighter pilot. It looks great on the outside but the facade is all it has going for it. For anyone looking for anything Irish or pub-like or even family-friendly, you will be sorely disappointed. As for kids, I wouldn't take mine within a mile of this place, even on a Sunday afternoon (which is when I visited, by the way). Inside, this is just another tired, typical, wannabe-hip, shiny metal, post-industrial/modern, faux Euro-trash binge bar for screaming, immature college 'children' power-slamming their first legal (maybe?) drinks, who wouldn't know "Irish" if a leprechaun crawled up their leg and bit 'em on the shamrock. Six months from now (if it's still in business) it will probably be a 'hip, trendy' tequila bar, then a few months later it will be a 'hip, trendy' martini bar, then a 'hip, trendy' Argentinian tapas bar, and so on and so on - you get the picture. If you want the real pub experience, you still need to go into downtown or midtown Sacramento.

Nice try, downtown Roseville, but once again you've missed by a country mile.
