The best BBQ in Austin, hands down, the sausage is awesome the pulled pork is intensely fatty and smokey and the brisket is always moist. The best thing for me though are the ribs, whatever the rub is or how they smoke it I generally make an ass out of myself picking every last bit of meat of the bone. The sauce matches the meat perfectly with a little bit of spice to it.  I like the sides, I don't love them, the pickles that they serve with the BBQ are really great.

I also really like eating at the bar, one of the guy's that always seemed to be there is pleasant, and affable, the other was not, but it is a great perch to set and people watch.

I am no  Q expert, but I am a fan of smoked meat, and I think Bowie BBQ is better than just about anywhere I've been.  The brisket is delicious, I always order the mixed, moist and lean.  We all know what "moist" really means, its it just too hard to say "leave some fat on it."  The pork ribs are so good, falling off the bone with perfect spice and smokiness.  They vary their sausages, and I've never had one I didn't like.  The pulled pork is so juicy tender, I buy it by the pound and make pork, green chile, jack quesadillas.  They serve anything in a flour tortilla with a mixture of pickles, fresh jalapenos, and onions which is an amazing touch.  I think I'll head on over now.

Bowie deserves its own listing despite being tucked in the back of the flagship Whole Foods. They have about three tables (plus bar seating for 8), serve their own beers (Lone Star, Fireman's 4, Maine RootBeer), but the biggest reason is that the meat rocks and the sides are all homemade. Anyone Yelping for BBQ downtown should have this on  their radar.
I had the pulled pork plate last night (easily shared) with potato salad and slaw. It's crazy-delicious!
I've also done the brisket and chicken - both moist (choose your cut on the brisket) and oozing with flavor. They offer up a number of a  number of fixins including onions, jalapenos, and the amazing 365-brand Bread and Butter pickles mmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Thanks for bringing this up David P. I have to agree that for BBQ downtown, Bowie offers up a great alternative to Iron Works and Lamberts.

I've tried everything here except the sausage (I'm not a sausage fan), and I've yet to be disappointed. The ribs, pulled pork, brisket and chicken do not disappoint. The sauce is Austin's Own in Medium I believe (sold on the sauce aisle too). It's perfectly spicy and what I keep in my own refrigerator.

I'm not big on the sides, but who needs them when you've got a store full of alternatives? Head over to the prepared foods and get some mac and cheese, veggies or mashed potatoes and Bob's your uncle.*

And I'm always going to love anyone who has Fireman's 4 on tap. You can only imagine how tempting that is when you work upstairs.

*Actually, Fred is my uncle.

I have to agree that Bowie BBQ is one of the best in town.  The ribs are excellent, as is the chicken.  The mac salad is genius.  The sauce is the best I've had.   I also love that they serve up some tasty samples.  I have a hard time going to whole foods without stopping by for a little bit of something something, even if I've already eaten.

The only downside to this place is that its a bit pricey, as is everything else residing in "Whole Paycheck".
