12 reviews for Bourbon Orleans Hotel
If you're looking for a hotel in the French Quarter near all of the action, this is a good bet if you're willing to pay above average prices for average rooms with inattentive staff and poor hotel services in order to be on Bourbon St.
Location - 5 stars - if you're looking to be on Bourbon Street
Hotel Amenities - 2 stars - no mini bar (one is under the TV but was locked and empty), no room service, restaurant only open for breakfast and is a pay-buffet very limited options, fitness room 1 elipitical, 1 bike, 1 treadmill, that's it.
The pool is nice, but they close it at 10pm, what a joke for the area, it's isolated from the street noise, and there were never any people being loud to disturb those with rooms overlooking the pool. I think they're just being lazy by closing the pool instead of taking care of an issue if a guest ever does get carried away, it's the best feature of the hotel and they don't take advantage of it with pool service, towels, hours, etc. that they should.
Rooms - 3 stars - what you'd expect from a hotel of this era, bathroom a little better than expected with ample counter space and good high flow shower head; a lot of the carpet in the hallways, etc. needs replaced though
Staff - 2 stars - front desk and bell staff was helpful, but the pool was frequently out of towels, the staff just seemed to go out there and look around or get a drink, not service the area very frequently; maid on my floor always on her cell phone, took 5 hours to get the room made up, janitor was rude to people in the lobby
Going through some of the previous reviews by fellow Yelpers, I agree that the walls are paper thin and the rooms are small compared to other hotels but one has to keep in mind that this hotel is not a new and was built over 50 years ago.
One of the biggest draws of this hotel is it's location. It is located right on the corner of Bourbon and Orleans which means that you are a stone's throw from Bourbon St. but far enough from the noise to sleep (if you desire). Facilities were well kept, staff was quite attentive, and the concierge was dead on with his recommendations. Would highly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting New Orleans but the only caveat would be that if you were there on Mardi Gras you wont be getting any sleep at all!
If you can fit it in your budget, request one of the balcony rooms on the 2nd floor. Sometimes being above the crowded streets can be more fun. The rooms are well appointed, but you are getting location. This busy hotel's service suffers during Carnival or any of the festivals when crowds converge on the quarter. This is the Big Easy, time moves in a different direction here.
for the price from orbitz I paid and having booked my room the same day I found clean peaceful shelter in a place with history and soul you can feel.
I literally only spent 7 hours here, but it was good for what I needed.
Its location is mo' betta as its a stone's throw from the sinful chaos, the staff)met one at check out was adequate for 10 pm check in(he got the info needed from orbitz to get my ass into a room as it appears the reservation agent goes home at 5pm so any reservations received for that night are not forwarded to the appropriate staff)
they did run out of extra pillows(as I overheard on the phone at the front desk) so if you need some extra cushion for your (whatever reason, ask early and often or bring your own blow ups)
the room was clean, no smells, everything worked and the bed was good enough for a tired weary person who closed the bars at 3am.
small room safe(no instructions but press 1234 to open, place your personals, close the door and code in your own 4 digit combo and press lock)
room mini-frig was locked and the room had wifi, but at a cost(ask at front desk)
hairdryers, ironing board and iron provided and a small 4cup coffee maker(no grounds to be found though), but with cafe du monde a few blocks away`not a biggie.
the bed a queen was just right and I dozed a good 5 hours before time to depart(12pm check out)
the ghosts were welcoming and appeared to be busy doing their own thing.
would I do it again? sho'nuf;-)
Comfortable, Friendly are two words that describe this hotel in the heart of the Quarter. Great for weddings too.
Very friendly staff. Great location.
Garage must be far from hotel as valet took a minimum of 15 minutes to get car.
I read that walls are paper thin, but I did not experience noises from rooms next door. Oh, and we were right next to the ice room. I did try to take an afternoon nap, but the kids yelling at the pool below made me think twice.
King sized bed was comfortable in the Jr. Suite. Two Doubles in room with balcony were very VERY firm (translate-HARD).
Only complaint was their Jr Suite. I booked it for hubby & self and another room for daughter and son-in-law. The only difference was that the Jr. Suite cost nearly $40/night more. Their website states that a Jr Suite has a sofa, coffee table and chairs and a wet bar. Our "Jr. Suite" had none of those furnishings. Save yourself the money and get a regular room OR pay the extra and get the bi level suite.
This is one of the funnest places on earth that I ever had the pleasure of staying. I only stayed in the Townhouse suite and it was sweet!!
I would only recommend the suite. I can't imagine staying in Disneyland for adults without having a balcony. You have a choice for Orleans Street view or Bourbon St view.
The room had a lot of ambiance. It does have an old timey feeling but its still classy.
We ordered room service one night and the food was actually fantastic.
Who would of thunk?
Also having a balcony is a great way to gather up the beads! Owww!!!!
No longer a Wyndham hotel. And you can tell.
OLD facility.
TINY ass rooms with the thinnest walls you can imagine. I can hear the phone conversations the guy in the next room was having.
It's freaking HAUNTED.
I had to change rooms THREE times (1st room's t.v. was broken... the 2nd room's SHOWER was broken. How can you have a non-working shower??)
Old old old furniture.
I sent the General Manager a pretty annoyed e-mail when I kept having to change rooms - to have the e-mail bounced back to me a day later. How does your e-mail not work?
No where to buy bottled water/beverages. How do you not have a vending machine of some sort for your guests?
TINY work out facility.
Only great thing about this place was the location in the French Quarter - everything was walkable!
Otherwise... never again. Worst hotel experience I've ever had during a business trip!
Bad experience with Bourbon Orleans.
#1 Walls are paper thin. You can hear everything.
#2 Water pressure is very weak.
#3 The A/C made a weird rumbling sound every 15 minutes.
#4 The alarm radio next door went off every single morning even though the room was vacant. Because of #1, it woke us up earlier than we liked. We called the front desk every. single. day. Once, it took them about 30 minutes to come upstairs and turn it off.
We switched over to the Inn on Bourbon and it was such a nicer place for the same price.
Just came back from my second visit to the Bourbon Orleans, and it was almost as great as I remember. My first visit was when I was an impressionable 22 year old totally blown away by the marble lobby, the courteous staff, and the larger than normal (for the Quarter) pool.
On this visit, I was more aware of the walls being paper thin, and of a somewhat threadbare look to certain aspects of the hotel - the furniture in the lobby, the chipped and broken painting hanging in our bathroom, etc. However, it's still a gorgeous hotel with superb service at a great price. While it could use some updating, compared to the horror stories I've heard of other hotels in the area being rife with bugs and mice, I think I'll come back to this hotel next time I visit. Which, according to my boyfriend, will be very soon.
Old world charm, grace and style.
Wyndham knows how to run a hotel and treat guests as well as anyone, and they do it right at The Bourbon Orleans.
Classy little bar opens into the lobby area, and someone trained the staff well.
Sure do love the rollicking good times out on the street, but when its time to head for the rack and decompress this is the place.
Great French Quarter location, especially after dark when you walk out the door, turn to your left and see the giant shadow of Saint Louis (I presume--see photo) cast all the way up the backside of the St. Louis Cathedral. It's eerie and grand, and lends the perfect note of spookiness to the atmosphere of the Bourbon Orleans--which alegedly has ghosts. It's old, after all, and in the French Quarter. I reckon it's not so easy to find an unhaunted hotel in these parts, the city that is called--among other things--the most haunted city in America. New Orleans also has some of the best food, music, art and people anywhere. But back to the hotel, there is a certain just-past-its-prime grandeur to the decor. I liked it. My room was spacious, clean and quiet; it overlooked the lovely pool area, and had a comfy King size bed. The staff was friendly and quick. While the French Quarter was not particularly damaged by the hurricane, many New Orleans neighborhoods were--and are far from full recovery post-Katrina. So go there and see the city and enjoy the fun of the Quarter. And don't forget the tragedy that befell the people of NOLA who love their town and are still fiercely working to rebuild, when much of the world has already moved on.
