Hey, it's way, way, way out in the middle of nowhere that's for sure but once you get here it's much cooler than you would think.
Tight fairways, redwoods everywhere, average, long-grass greens depending on if they were in the sun or not. I would hate to be the golf course maintenance man at this course with all of the changing weather conditions to deal with.
It is not Pebble Beach but it does have it's nice holes. Very interesting executive design that will bring you back if you like that sort of thing. They also have a FREE PLAY ON YOUR BIRTHDAY if you join their e-club online.
Here is their online description of the course. It's pretty flowery ...

I used to love this place. My family used to rent a condo here once a year and we'd have a weekend of golf and swimming. This was the 80's - and I swear, not a dollar has gone back into the course, clubhouse or surrounding condos. It has been run down almost to the point of no return. There are a few fun longer holes, but mostly par threes. Not worth the pain in the butt to get there in my opinion. Sorry old friend...
Someone please remind me to look at a map next time I book a tee time. I hadn't played in years and my father-in-law was in town. He's a golf fanatic, but he's also from Kentucky so we won't pay that much for golf.
So I go off looking for a cheaper place to play "near" San Jose and Boulder Creek pops up. Being an idiot, I book it and just assume it's 15 minutes from my house.
Whoa. Wrong. It's a good hour on curvy mountain roads. Father-in-law complains about getting sick before we play. I laugh it off, joking that I did it on purpose b/c I want to beat his ass in golf. That's funny for the first 30 minutes, but it gets old quick.
Anyways, long story short, long, curvy ride. Not close at all to San Jose.
And the golf course? It's a short executive course. Pretty well maintained, lots of par 3's, and it's definitely scenic. Love the trees, but it makes for narrow fairways and if it's one thing I can't do, it's hit straight. All in all, a pretty nice, if not short course. The clientèle is real friendly, and perfect for a beginner since no one seems to take themselves to seriously here. If only it was closer.

I dont golf but being a carpenter/super hero I often am in the area. The bar is wonderfully dark and cozy. The drinks are stiff and they usually have two good beers on tap along with that yellow fizzy crap that americans are so fond of.
The food? well I usually dont expect much from country club food. So imagine my suprise, its verry good.breakfast, burgers, pot roast,pasta,fish....
Did I mention the soup?
The soup.
The soup!
THE SOUP!!!
Yeah the soup. Hey you Soup Guy! When I get rich I'm going to hire you as my personal chef.
The place is on the way to/from Big Bason State Park but otherwise its just left of nowhere

On a whim I went out to play golf in the afternoon.
What a great call by me. Walked right onto this beautiful course nestled in the mountains. Other than it took 45 minutes to get there from downtown San Jose and spent probably $25 in gas to get there, this is quite a hidden gem of a golf course.
I don't feel like I was playing at a place that is about to host the US Open, but for all the ammenities, I thought this was a good deal for golf.
I give this place 5 stars for the number of balls I have shanked into the trees and off the roofs of houses in my distant past. No windows broken though!! Although that line-drive off someone's patio window was a heart stopper. We used to get the mid-week specials and tootle around WITH a cart with hardly anyone there. My golf game still hasn't improved one iota but this place was good practice.

This is quite the little course! I love coming out here! The course meanders through the forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Beautiful scenery and a tricky little course makes this place a bunch of fun. You must have pin-point accuracy to get through this course. If you get off the fairway, you may want to bring your camping gear because it is all trees. Rates are very cheap and the course is kept up well, despite the amount of rainfall that Boulder Creek gets. Take some Dramamine if you have a tendency to get car sick. You'll be weaving through the mountains for a while. But if you love twisty mountain roads (like I do), it'll be an absolute blast.

I am reviewing the golf course only. There is a dining room on sight which offers a great breakfast.
Normally, I only write about the course itself. However, it is worth mentioning that this course is very difficult to get to from the San Jose area. It is not an easy drive, which you should factor in before choosing to play here. Due to the distance, we have only played here once.
The rates here are dirt cheap to begin with and we found an on-line special that made it even cheaper. With a cart, we paid $28/each on a Saturday morning. Good luck finding that deal somewhere in the San Jose area.
The course itself is, well, quirky. It meanders through beautiful Redwoods at times and is also surrounded by modest townhomes and rental units. The course is only a Par 65 which makes it great for Beginners and High handicappers. I brought my wife here (she plays about 2x per year) and she loved it. NO ONE out here is a budding Tiger Woods and everyone knows it. Hence, the people have a great attitude and they are here to have a good time. The course definitely had it's share of bare spots on the fairways, poor drainage and quite frankly, poorly maintained greens. The odd thing is that once in a while you would happen upon a green that was in pristine condition. My uneducated guess is that the massively varied conditions (Tall trees, no trees, direct sun, total shade, cool, hot, etc.) make it difficult to keep everything in great shape all at the same time. One other odd but neat feature is the ability to stop at the turn and have lunch. They will slot you back in if you simply check back in with the starter.
The slope rating is a 105 (very easy) and it's very short. There are a couple of long par-3s, but if you're uncomfortable with it, I don't think anyone there would think poorly of you for moving up to the next tee box. Another quirk is the run of Par-3s (4 of them in a row) on the front 9, then 3 par 5's on the back 9. I am NOT a big hitter, but I managed to drive all three par-5s in two. Talk about a great feeling!
I wouldn't go out of my way again to play here, but if you're in the area and you're not expecting country club conditions, you'll definitely enjoy this eclectic course and the nice people you will inevitably run into.
