Well-made and reasonably-priced drinks and good live music in a laid-back old-and-woody atmosphere.

The place is small. Bartenders are great. Mojitos are muddled and good, but even better were the Blue Long Islands - and yes, I know it sounds tacky.

And do come early if you can - I was in a group and I guess after a while of constantly ordering Blue Long Islands and Mojitos, they ran out of both.

Plentiful of patio seating - good if you want to get away from the smoke. Con: clothes smelling like smoke after you've been inside for a while.

(Another) Plus: no minimum charge on the credit car if you have the bar tab open.

Although some would call Bougies a collage bar, its only that when school is in session. Either way I love this place.
It seems like a seedy little hole in the wall, which is a much welcomes change from the overly suburban Sunset area. The drinks and strong and the music is fun.

Tuesday nights are my favorite for Raggae Night. Stumble in blazed, grab a red stripe or four and enjoy the music.

Drinks are not over priced, the crowd is not pretentious. You can get a stiff drink there at 4 in the afternoon and not feel the least bit guilty.

Being that it is in such a crowded area, the parking can suck if its a saturday night, but during the week its not too bad. This is a great bar, and a good place to meet with friends and have a good time. They have live music a lot so check out their calendar.

Bougies...you're ok in my book.

Good beer, good live music, inside/outside chill spots. The inside is a bit small and you might be cramped. The outside is better but its Miami and its hot. Quite possibly you'd be standing up outside too. So take your pick.

It's a bit different than what you'd expect to find in the Sunset area. But I think there are cooler bars to check out.

I found Bougie's late and left it early... that is I only really went after graduating from UM and have not gone back much since I quit smoking.
The setup is great and it is still a destination in South Miami. Live music, power nights, ladies nights... what more do you want.

This rustic wooden structure has all the basics you need: a good bar with lots of access, a nook perfect to have a band tucked away at its end and a nicely, lushly landscaping setting area. There is also private parking that becomes overflow seating for events/weekends...

One of the killers for Bougainvilleas is the new parking/retail building erected right in front of its front door, eliminating the nice breezy lookout over this corner of South Miami. I still recommend it and prefer over the other dive type bar down the street...

This place is cool to hang out and listen to some music while having a beer. Have alright drink specials sometimes however the live bands and fun crowd is my main attraction to the place.

This one is short and sweet. First, way too many people for a place that is not designed to hold more than a handful. Second, the crowd consists of the douchebag crowd typically found at Sunset. Not my type of people.

Old Florida tavern it is indeed. In fact I may even categorize this place as a dive - They have the right beer selection, the live music is good, cramped which makes it cozy and it is hard to hear anyone because the music is so loud.
What's not to like ?

Yes, Boogies is a great environment if you want to catch up with some friends and just have a drink..

ladies night is Wednesday but the drinks are a bit weak so I always end up ordering from the menu... the bartender ends up hooking me up with a drink or two on the side! Yes, I am that cute!!

Anyhow.. ck it out if you want to met some laid back people and just have a easy night out!

UPDATE: after writting this, the owner of Bougies extended an apology which honestly- made it all better. Glad to see the industry is still on it's game. Thanks again

I use to love this place, now every time I go it's a battle of the bartenders- whose gonna be a jerk.

Don't get me wrong, the security- great people, certain bartenders ALWAYS nice- but the ones that fail, fail hard.

There's this one bartender that's there on ladies nights who seems to have something permeability disturbing him, because I go up with a smile, say my pleases and thank yous yet he always has some nasty comment and basically pours .5 to 2 (.5 being the alcohol)

Dude, I'll tip you because I believe in it- but man your making it hard to keep a happy face on. And if you ask any of the other employees about him, they automatically know what jerk your talking about.

Man, Bougies FIRE HIM or atleast move him to bathroom duties...ugh out of my face!

Everyone seems to adore this spot.. I wasn't as impressed.  It wasn't bad at all, only that it is just well, another sports bar.  The music was so loud my throat was hurting after my feeble attempts to make small talk with the people we were with, hence the reason for not getting 4.  Yes, I understand its a bar, yes I understand that music will be loud in a bar. So for me to say it was too loud?

Yes, it was way too loud.  So loud you couldn't hear the hum of the people trying to talk over the music.

So we had to go outside.  I wasn't impressed with outside.

I guess if you get there early and snag a table outside it can be a better experience.  For those of us who couldn't sit inside lest our eardrums ruptured and couldn't sit outside because there was no seating left, it was an ok, yet not memorable experience

Beer prices were.. OK... not great.  $6 for a Guinness? Meh.

Bouganvillea's is exactly what it sounds like: a genus of tropical plants native to south America. Oh....wait....no. No, it's not that at all.

It's a bit hard to pronounce, and kinda hard to find, but Bouganvillea's is a good spot to meet up with friends and enjoy a drink or two. Because of all of the great reviews I had heard and read about this place, I decided to choose it as the starting destination for my birthday bonanza this year. Overall, I think I made a good choice in choosing to start the night there, but there were a couple of things that left a meh-ish taste in my mouth.

First of all, the indoor setup of the place is not at all conducive to hosting live music. Before the band started, I was having a blast rocking out with my friends to the ecclectic mix of music playing on the radio. But once the live band started to play, it became almost impossible to hold a conversation, and the awkwardness of having to shout in order to be heard was enough to warrant a closing of the tabs and moving on to the next bar.

Another piece of meh that I found to detract from the overall decent experience at Bouganvillea's was the way that the food ordering is set up. In order to get fed you need to place your order with a specific man who then gives your order to the kitchen. I'm not sure why it is necessary to have to go through this middleman, as it's completely conceivable that the bartenders could ring your food order as a part of your bar tab. Whatever the reasoning is behind that set-up, it makes for a very complicated process for getting your grub on.

If I'm in the area, I'll probably go back, but I won't go out of my way to do so. I will say, since I think it's worth mentioning, that the dirty martini I ordered at the bar was by far one of the best I've ever tasted. To be honest, that alone won two of the four stars!!!

Lats month I went into a slight panic when Bougie's said they were closing their doors for good due to the building being bought out--luckily for us, it was just an April Fool's joke! I wanted to kill 'em! They got us so good- I mean save Bougie's FB pages and all! LOL

Tomorrow is Bouganvillea's 9th anniversary and my liver and I are proud to say that we have been coming for just as long.

Regardless of the day of week, if you are in the neighborhood and want an inexpensive drink and a laid back atmosphere, Bougs is the place to go. Throughout the week they have different themes (Reggae night, ladies night, etc) and usually have live bands playing. Friday nights get pretty full, Saturdays are a little less full, but really- any night is fun!

I am sure that I'll give the new food truck a try tomorrow...and I'll be sure to let you guys know how that goes ;)

Came to Bouganvillea's for Denise Fs birthday last week, and had a really great time. The bartenders were very attentive and easy to get a hold of, and the waitresses coming in and out of our area always made sure we had what we needed. The music that played in between bands was pretty good too. I didn't catch their name, but I loved the second band that went up last Saturday, around 11p or so - they had a great vibe, and I really enjoyed their music - if anyone knows, please tell me!

This is definitely the kind of bar I'd like to hang out at. They have a garden/patio area with tables, very comfy for people to sit and talk at. Not sure if they serve food though.

Why they're not getting 5 stars?
- Because the live music was a bit too loud for such a small space, so it wasn't inviting to conversations, rather drew you out of the indoor space to the outside, and eventually another bar - but that other bar was planned anyway, so can't blame too much of that on the music. But the loud music definitely drove our group outside.

I would have to say I'm a wannabe regular. I live almost an hour away, yet always love making the drive over. This place is awesome for both happy hour and live music! The shape, lay out, and design of this place reminds me of a college house; the bar takes up a majority of the inside, seating is available outside and the bands perform in what I would call the "living room".

The drinks are inexpensive and the ambiance is out of this world, I love going for their Reggae nights. The bar can get a bit packed, but like any other place simply start a tab and they keep an eye out for you. The worst part about leaving this place is exactly that, leaving this place! A walk outside reminds you of the normal world you are about to re-enter.

Bougie's is a great place to have a few drinks and laughs on any given night.  You're bound to run into someone you know there on any given night, but you'll also meet great new people.  There's something going on every night- from In-the-Biz Sundays to Reggae Night on Tuesday and bands on Fridays and Saturdays.  Ladies' night is Wednesday- free wells for the ladies.  It has seating inside and outside, and a lot of space to walk around.  Some nights, they have a hookahs.  It can get pretty smoky inside, so I prefer to sit outside some nights.  The drinks are priced well, and they often bring new beers for you to try (both on tap and bottled).

An alright place. There's a little mix of everybody but mainly college kids. Nice looking with polish wooden floors and decor, reminds me of a log cabin. Small place, can get cramped when the night gets going. Everybody has been nice esp. when the GF knows a bartender and she gets drinks on the house. Has live music and a laid back vibe. Worth checking out.

They now have a kitchen! The Moonshine Grill @ Bouganvillea's has a small bar menu. Mostly the usual fare but thankfully they have a veggie burger and a lean turkey burger. The highest price on the menu is $7. Which is cheaper than a drink at many if not most clubs. The least expensive item? A hot dog for $3. If the way to reach people is by their stomach then Moon Shine Grill will soon have a lot of loves.

My favorite spot in South Miami. Almost-always great live music in the evenings. I prefer to hang out inside, but it's nice to have so much space to get fresh-air outside in the patio area. Reggae Night's on Tuesdays are my absolute favorite. Totally local, being a Miami-Native I run into friends every time I go.

Solid neighborhood bar that never disappoints but usually gets too crowded and understaffed so expect a long time to get a drink on those nights.  The crowd can sometimes be loaded with douchebags on some nights.

Live music nights are fun but their comedy open mic nights are always really funny.

It definitely has that very casual Florida flavor; flip-flops, shorts and faded jeans. The crowd tends to be young, but this bar is welcoming to all kinds. They have live music 6 nights a week and ladies night on Wednesdays. The staff is friendly and the drinks are generously poured and reasonably priced.

Hungry? Not a problem; you can have pizza (or anything else) delivered.

the first time i came here was on a first date back in 2003 and it was love at first sight -- with bougie's, not the guy!!
i have gone there frequently for the past 6 yrs. ive had 2 of my birthdays there and i think it will never get old.
the drinks are cheap and the crowd is usually great! except when its overcrowded with young um students, mostly who dont even look old enough to be there.
only downside is there isnt any food, and when drinking its always nice to munch on something..
they recently played an aprils fools joke that they were closing down and created quite an uproar of very sad loyal patrons. thank god they have a sense of humor!!

Bouganvillea's is a good addition to South Miami.  After an evening at Sunset Place, you can go bar hopping nearby and some definite stops are Bouganvillea and Sunset Tavern.  Bouganvillea's has become very packed.  People have gotten the word out.  They have live bands and it really gives the bar a huge advantage to other bars.  Problem is, number of people clearly outnumbers number of seats, so most people have to stand up.  There is seating outside and a bar outside too.  It's very dark in there, which I think is a positive aspect.  It really lends to the overall atmosphere.  It's a cool place but I like to go when it's not so packed.

My wife and I went out sans children last night to go see a friend play with a band by the name of Raging Gaisha.  Bougainvillea's was the venue and while it may be small, it's a great place to hang out. Drinks are very inexpensive and the music is loud. The bar can be a little crowded at times, but that's to be expected. I like this place for its ambiance and live music.

Awesome on Wednesday Nights - Ladie's Night.  Lots of people!!!  I mean, the place gets jam packed but yet everyone is still able to get their drinks and have fun!  They have live bands that come and play here too.  Which is always a challenge due to the size of the place.  It's TINY!  Thank goodness for outdoor seating!  If not, I would get totally clausterphobic in there.  The drinks are reasonably priced, which is always a plus in South Miami.  The scene is quite different depending on the night.  You can see all kinds of different people gathered here.  The best part is, I am always running into people I haven't seen in ages.

bouganvillea's is like this untouched little jewel in the middle of south miami.  surrounded by sunset place, little new boutiques, and new restaurants... bouganvillea's looks like it's from more than a few years ago.  not in a bad way though.  in a great way.

it's tiny.  be warned.  especially where there's live music going on... the band kills a good chunk of the inside front room.  but there's a bunch of seating outside.  be warned, when it's packed can get pretty loud out there.

This is the real deal, great servers, great location, great atmosphere. A different event every night from, poker to their ladies night, there is something always happening here. The owners are usually on premise making sure that everyone is having a great time. They have a great selection of drinks. Their live music selection is some of the best in Miami. Jazz, funk, blues, just about any kind of music to match the vibe of an old wooden house that looks like a place that Hemingway would have stopped off before heading to the keys!

Bouganvillea's a laid back bar hangout  that allows you to drink outdoors, listen to live music, and chill with friends in a low-maintenance way. Off the path near Sunset Place, it attracts a mix of college students, young professionals, older couples, etc. from the Gables/South Miami area. My friend celebrated her 25th bday toast here and it was a great place to have a decent conversation while soaking in the balmy weather. Its a nice alternative to the Coconut Grove bar crawl.
