Review Highlights
A true gem for Asheville.
This place gets VERY busy and filled mostly with locals.
If you are facing a 20 min wait have a drink at the bar and meet some locals...
Tip: best to go early or late if you don't want a 20-40 min.
Secret table just outside in courtyard; ask for them to light the heaters if in winter. This table is romantic and separated from main dining hall by glass, so you can still see in but you can actually have a conversation. One minus however it has a view of the dishwasher/bus station...
Lovely wine list (especially the hand selected specials) and well thought out beer list. Highland Brewery on tap down to Chimay in bottle, Belgian beers go very well with bistro food especially mussels by the way.
The moules frites night is an amazing deal, $14 per person as many bowls as you care to try. My favorite is the Parisienne-white wine garlic butter... but it's fun to try the other flavors as well: Thai-cocnut milk and lemon grass, Mediterranean-spicy tomato base,South of French Broad (similar to a traditional Parisienne but with PBR in lieu of white wine)
Michel Baudouin, the owner is very personable and will probably stop by your table for a lovely chat. He has a knack for making you feel at home and a regular. The fact that he quoted Thomas Keller as we dined tips me off that we are in good hands.

When I travel, I like to pre-plan as much as possible. And I planned on dining here for my boyfriend who loves mussels.
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday are all the mussels you can eat!!
$14 per person. First order includes frites. Yes, this is a place for my boyfriend!
We arrived around 8 pm on a Tuesday night. The place was packed, we were advised of an approximate 20 minute wait by their charming hostess. This was fine, because there was a couple seats at the bar. BJ enjoyed a Pisgah Summer beer, I had a cocktail.
We were finally seated at a cute table for two. I decided to go with the Boeuf Bourguignon. I recently fell in love with Julia Child after watching the movie Julie & Julia. There is no way I'm ever going to try making this dish. So, this was a great opportunity for me to try it. I have to say it was perfect! The beef tips are simmered in red wine & vegetable stock with mushrooms, cipoline onions, carrots, thyme & tomatoes. The beef was so tender I could cut it will my fork and I loved the veggies. Very good! BJ enjoyed 4 of the 5 different preparations of the mussels. I swear, he usually eats very fast, but I thought we would be there all night!! Also, I managed to steal some of his frites. They were incredible! Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Yum!!
Even though one of us was incredibly full, there was no way we were leaving without dessert! We got two crepes, one suzette & one chocolate, topped with whipped cream. These crepes were so good, very light, served a bit warm. Loved this restaurant.

Great atmosphere - quaint, relaxing.
For appetizers the Salade Compose was very good, but the French Onion Soup was just ok. I've certainly had better.
The mussels were good but not great. They were quite tiny, and I find larger ones better. The Parisienne preparation was nothing special, just predominately butter based so rather typical. The Mediterranian was very good, especially when you ask them to spice it up. Wife ordered L'Escalope de Dinde Panée, turkey scaloppini breaded with baguette crumbs, sautéed & finished with lemon, capers & white wine sauce. It was good but again not great.
I would come here again to try some different entrees, but I must admit that the atmosphere is what really attracts me to this place. I've never been to France but it reminds me of some restaurants in Switzerland as far as the "feel" of the place.
So cute - loved the back patio, very chill.
Just had the all you can eat Les Moules Frites (mussels) and I must be more specific with how I feel.
Unbelievable. The mussels are hot, freshly caught, freshly prepared, full of flavor, and keep coming until you can't take it any more.
My favorites are the Parisienne, Mediterranean and South of the French Broad (Parisienne with a kick).
They come with their delicious fries...this is NOT TO BE MISSED.
Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!
$14
...and $12 Bottles of House Wine (white and red...both of which are wonderful).

Fan-freaking-tastic!
If you can get past the "air-of-pretentiousness" that jumps on you as soon as you walk in the door then you're in treat for a wonderful meal. We arrived about 6:30 on a Wednesday evening and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, while we sat at the bar while we enjoyed a couple of cocktails and looked over the wine list. I had a Dirty Stoli on the rocks and my wife had a Cosmo, she asked if they would make it with Citron after being prompted on vodka choice by the bartender, both were prepared as we would have at our home.
The hostess came and got us and showed us to our table in the back, it is a little on the tight side, it's not so much that they have crammed to many tables in to the space it's more they have too little space. What space they do have is appointed well and feels comfortable, it seem they have taken the time to offset the tables so you are not lined up even with the next table which makes it hard to spy what the other tables are having but does give a little privacy.
Not sure it our server was new or overwhelmed or maybe a little of both, she was sweet and all our food was ordered correctly and served in a very timely manor but she was not much on the personality side, could have just been a bad night for her, we all have bad days its just a part of life.
They brought us bread and butter, the bread was rich in flavor and had a great crust, the butter was served in mini butter bells, while cute they were a bit clumsy (as you can tell I'm trying hard to find some negatives about the place, had to look pretty hard).
We started w/ a bowl of French Onion soup that we split, very good and very rich with a good beefy flavor, the best thing about this soup was the cheese, or the lack of cheese I should say, it was easy to eat with out having the cheesy spiderweb issues that plagues this dish and may keep some from ordering it out in the public eye.
My wife ordered a glass of wine, a very nice french number, I can't rember the name let alone spell it, I had a Rocket Girl on draught from Asheville Pizza and Brew, nice to see local beers out and about.
We both ordered our own Escargot and that may have been the best decision of the night. DAMN! everything about their snails were perfect from the garlic butter to the small piece of pastry placed on top of each snail to the ceramic serving dish that they came in. Perfect.
We agonized over our main courses, we came with the full intent of getting the mussels and as the case sometime is neither one of us ordered them. My wife ordered the Trout Almondine, it was served with new potatoes and the veggie of the day which was a great mix of Brussell sprouts, String beans and greens. The trout was was cooked perfectly and was very fresh tasting. I had the steak topped with black pepper & cognac sauce, it was served with the veggie of the day and french fries. The cut of meat was VERY beefy tasting and cooked as I had ordered it (a lite mid-rare), the sauce was a Little loose but had plenty of flavor and balanced out well with the shoulder steak.
Now, judge me if you will, but to me one of the greatest food stuffs in the know galaxy is McDonald's French fries, scoff if you must but I have judged all french fries my whole life on how they rate against the mighty McD's, none have ever made the cut until now. These french fries rock, good googly these thing are fantastic, you must have these now. Really, stop what you are doing and go get these fries. NOW!
Well by this time we are on the verge of popping, but we were committed so we went for desert and just for shits and giggles we both ordered one, my wife got some form of Crepe's, they were good, nothing to write home about but were a good solid dish. I got the African Queen, I ate the whole thing. I never finish desert. Wow it was some kind of good, the wife and I agree this is the best desert in A'ville.
Good Stuff.

Wayyyyyyyyyy overrated. Here's why!
1) Was told the wait was 10 minutes. Waited 40 minutes to be seated.
2) Was told that food was not served outside in the front, then proceeded to watch them serve other patrons out there
3) Artichoke salad was undercooked, pre-cooked then refrigerated, nearly inedible and really bland. Yes, I know how to eat an artichoke, I'm from California for Pete's sake.
4) The quiche was burned on top and again, bland with a soggy crust.
5) Service is sloooooow and dingy
However: the menu is cute with its phonetic French pronunciation guide, and the frites were pretty damn good.

Oh! Good house wine (and a killer wine list as well)! All you can eat mussels! Wonderful escargot! A beautiful patio in back! It's a cruel, cruel world that I cannot afford to eat like this at EVERY meal! succulent steaks, drenched in buttery goodness! God! Why can't all food be free! Yes, Bouchon is not for the budget conscious, but if you like food, you really can't go wrong here! Pleasant atmosphere, good service, and sweet manna from heaven on the plates! Don't go here on a time crunch. It's a waste of good French food. The French make an evening of their food, and if you do the same, you understand why. French food like this is just plain good for your soul.

We attended a rehearsal dinner at Bouchon for my friends wedding this past weekend in Asheville. Our party was seated in the cute back "patio" last Friday night, and we had a nice time.
Apps were great (we had a set menu with 3 choices for app, entree, and dessert), entrees were lovely, and I had to stop myself from eating the entire chocolate mousse dessert! Only minor complaint was due to the size of our party, we could not individually select meat temps, but the streak frite was still yummy, especially the frites! Those were very well received by all.
I'd love to come back & try again with just a few friends -- hopefully next time I come visit lovely Ashevile.

I give Bouchon five stars for atmosphere and food! I love the french bistro look! The steak and frites was as good as anywhere! I would love to get a few friends and chill on the patio!

What a wonderful surprise of a restaurant! Reasonable prices on dinner and wine, great service and excellent food. We were staying in Asheville with some friends for a long weekend and ended up here twice. The mussels were amazing. I love this place.

OMG, just love it here. As the others have said go for the frites! The french onion soup and roast chicken are superb also. It does fill up fast, so go early, late or dress for the back patio weather. Feels pub-like, on the cozy-noisy-side, thats not bad! Our NYC and South FL friends insist on dinner here each visit, that speaks volumes. Have some wine and just relax.
The food at Bouchon is really outstanding--a must try when you're in Asheville. Hands down the best Croque Monsieur I've ever had in my life and I like to think I have a rather discriminating palate when it comes to fancy ham 'n cheese. Excellent service, great wine list.

When we walked in, I caught a whiff of an uptight atmosphere, but maybe my vibes were off that night. The chicken I ordered was very tasty and not overdone, and I was impressed that they served both white and dark meat (enough for 2). The side order of fries was fabulous and seemed to last forever as my companion and I munched on them. The dipping sauce for the fries was good too - some kind of light orange fare. The lemonade liquor that my companion ordered was too tart, however. Overall the food was surprisingly good, but I can't say it's one of my favs because the atmosphere wasn't as cozy as I would have liked . The service was good though.
