Very impressed by this gym.
First of all it has FREE PARKING in a parking garage right next to it.
When you go in the garage you take a ticket for BSC, and then you stamp it on
your way out of the gym.
Another thing I like it's very spacious...gives it a nice feel. The men's locker
rooms are also pretty big(i assume the women's locker room is huge too).
The staff is like anyplace...some are really nice some
are meh.
One time I was in a hurry and did not bring my gym shorts...to my suprise they actually
had shorts that I was able to buy in the gym...they actually have common sense..I don't
often find common sense in people.I was impresssed again.
There is a good looking Asian girl who is
part of the staff...she's usually in the front to greet me and she's always very friendly
and helpful..kudos to her.
It also has a sauna and pool which are of course a big PLUS. All the gyms seem to be closing
their saunas which is annoying..I'm glad this one still has it.
Also lots of good looking in shape guys to be your eye candy. -
Review from J T.
New York, NY
When my friend suggested we go to the Boston Sports Club, my mind drifted back to vague memories of high school days long past. In high school you never lack for peers, good or bad, and being a member of a sports team provides ample opportunities for laughing with friends while you are supposed to be engaged in strenuous exercises.
Graduate from college, however, and although you may do your best to maintain a circle of close and trusted friends, you inevitably find fewer people willing to endure pain and suffering with you and to laugh while doing it.
You are there, standing at the edge of a vast empire of free weights, alone, your workout partner having chosen the greener pastures of the cardio machines one floor below. There, every morning, you will see the same disconcertingly thin young woman endlessly pounding a stairmaster. She is climbing as if being pursued by invisible assassins, her arms and legs churning and pushing the machine, her thin face a mixture of desperation and dull pain.
So there you are, alone, planning your attack. Walk confidently to the first machine that looks recognizable and attempt to sit in the appropriate place. (Never go for the free weights first. At least with machines there are little diagrams that show you what to do. Free weights naturally make you look ambitious, and funny, like a chimpanzee or a small child working out, and you can easily hurt yourself.)
Pump out a few reps on a machine. You may realize your selected weight is either too light or too heavy. If it is too light, stop your exercise and proudly adjust the pin to a heavier weight, nodding your head as if to say "I should have known!" If the weight is too heavy, struggle to keep your face from contorting wildly and finish 1 or 2 more reps before walking straight back to the lockerroom. Try not to rub your sore muscles until you are by yourself, out of sight.
Then spend the next 30-45 minutes in the pool or in the sauna, depending on whether you are the kind of person who handles heat or cold with greater aplomb.
A quick shower in one of the working and appropriately stocked shower stalls (missing showerhead? no shampoo?) and you're ready for the day.
By the second or third visit you should 'hit your stride' literally and figuratively, eschewing the less satisfying activities in favor of ones that make you feel like you've actually done something to justify spending $59 per month plus a $39 registration fee and $29 yearly fee (charged in January...? what day in January?? Could I avoid the fee for 11 months if I sign up Feb 1st?)
The towels are rough and not large enough to cover a fat naked man around the waist, which is unfortunate.
But overall, although the BSC can be at times unkempt, it is a big new gym with lots of stuff, and this is America, where big and new and stuff matter... and ultimately your experience is what you make of it! -

Joined BSC Wellington in November. My biggest complaint-No One Sprays and Wipes machines after use! I'd guess about 90% of people there don't clean up after themselves. Leaving sweat towels on the machines after use. Staff doesn't enforce any of the common courtesy rules, they just stand around and chat. I see lots of bad behavior, people talking on cell phones everywhere. Funky smell in the workout area. For a gym that costs $60 and is supposed to be better than the other area options it still has a huge number of Meatheads. Classes are overcrowded and the staff doesn't utilize ticketing or sign-up sheet system. The just pack the people into the classes. Try doing a yoga class next to the spin room--you can't get into yoga "mode" because you hear the constant screeching of the spin instructor next door. Plenty of rude clients and the front desk staff has some rude folks as well. They wouldn't let me View the gym before signing up! The pool is over-chlorinated and obviously not monitored properly--my hair has been breaking from it. They also use the same shady billing and fee tactics that all other gyms use-hidden fees, impossible to speak with an actual manager they are never actually "available". Should have joined the Y for less money. Staff and management isn't much better than what you'd get at WorkOutWorld for $10 a month. Definitely Disappointed!
I forgot to mention:
Gym is overcrowded
Not enough classes
No soap in the locker room dispensers
Not enough sanitizer spray bottles available
sketchy clientele--do they give a special ghetto rate to some people?
people hog machines--really dude, do you need to sit on that nautilus machine and text your friends between sets?
broken cardio equipment
limited direct tv line up on cardio machines
during a week with holidays they cancel almost all of the classes
poorly managed -
Review from Chris M.
To add to my gripe about the gym goers here. I was wiping down the stairmaster after I used it, and someone came up to me to ask me something thinking that I worked there.
Clean up after yourself, and put the weights back. think of putting things away as a extra work to your workout.
Edit:
Working out late on weeknights I have found that the showers don't have any soap left in them. I know its not the best stuff, but i want to be able to wash the grossness off me after my workout.Listed in: Workin' on My Fitness

First the good... I have enjoyed working out at this club, the facilities are clean, never really crowded, never a wait for machines, good class options, nice people working out, comp parking, Precor equipment, all good. My daughter went to the summer camp for two summers and enjoyed it. They have "childcare" which is a playroom, but I never saw anyone in it.
Now for the bad... Day ONE of me walking in, I got the hard pressure sell. I'm not one to be bullied so I can be pretty strong willed back. I get they want to make their sales, but dude tried to pressure me into a two year contract before I had a chance to view the facilities and work out there once. I ended up doing the 30 days for $30 and once I went, I was hooked, but I never got over that initial pressure filled first meeting. I felt that everytime I saw someone who worked tere, they were trying to get me to sign up for private training, etc. Fast forward to two years later. Due to work committments, I can no longer go here (which is a bummer, but the reality - wish they openned at 5am, not 5:30am) so I try to cancel my membership... and they made it really difficult. I called to find out what to do, they said to come in. I went in, no one who coul dhelp me was there. I was told to come back. I did and again no one who could help me was available. After 2 solid weeks, I finally said I wanted the # to corporate membership services and they were finally able to help me... although I was told I would get an email to confirm the cancellation, but that hasn't come yet.
So, long story short - a great gym, great people, smarmy business practices. I would like to go back again once my schedule allows for it, and I imagine I'll get the same. -
Review from Bobby C.
As long as nothing goes wrong, this is a decent gym. This is my primary gym for the last year or so.
-The building is relatively new so the gym is pretty clean.
-The 2.5 hr free parking in the garage is nice.
-Someone mentioned about the trainers being unfriendly. True. If they are not working with you, don't expect anything.
-Someone mentioned about sales. Yes, they have sales tactics to get you to sign up for personal training.
-In regards to the towels, the larger ones are typically in the locker room.
They post signs on where cell phones allowed, but you will see people on their cells on the treadmills or machine weights. Cell phones and cameras are not to be used in the locker rooms. You occasionally see people taking pictures and talking on their cells.
I always have a lock on my locker. Unfortunately I came back from my workout one Saturday afternoon to find my lock gone and wallet taken. It was obviously another BSC member. And yes they went on a spree with my credit cards. $63 a month membership does not mean the clientele is up there. -
Review from Scott M.
This BSC is actually in need of heavy spring cleaning or summer as the case may be. The smell is really über funky in a few areas around the gym. The free weight area is a mess the weights and equipment was extremely disorganized. You end up running all over the place to do logically grouped exercises and find the bars for machines and the weights you need. The locker room floors are not so tidy. Now part of this is the fact guys are in there making their messes. I don't get the micro towel. Do you have to shop at a special wholesaler to get such small towels?
The smell I think is because the equipment needs a serious clorox bath. Really scrubbing the floor in the locker room is also a must. I think a deep cleaning will get the gym back to the four star level quickly.
I will say the Group X classes were rocking. They were all packed and the instructors had some highly motivated participants. The front desk staff is perky and helpful. The trainers all had clients and putting them through the paces. So there are a lot of things to celebrate at this gym as well. -

This is a great facility but they are inconsistent with pricing for out of town guests, one day charging $15 and the next $30. One of their desk women/front greeter/ checker-inner people Ann is downright rude. I know East Coast people have a rep for being abrupt but that should never cross into customer service, even if i do only visit the club on trips to Boston. Once you get past her you'll have a good workout though, BSC is a nice place.

I love this sports club!
Whenever I go.. it's not crowded. There is a pool.. tons of classes... and it's clean with towel service.
I got a great deal on this place.. $29/month. I love that the locker rooms are modern.. it's by the T and it's clean.
Plus, they have lotion, hair dryers, and all the perks of a nice gym. -

Depends on you who are
If you are looking for a big corporate place with many rules in place this is for you. It is also great if you do not need childcare.
They have childcare till 1:00 and usually only 1-2 staff on so that means when it is a busy holiday and the gym is open if there is only one staff person on, they can only have 2 kids (only one baby) in the childcare space at a time. You must call ahead to reserve a spot ( you can only reserve a week in advance) and if you don't use they charge you anyway.
I have been waiting for a year for them to change a class time and /or extend the childcare they have 2 popular classes that meet from 12:15- 1:15. Still waiting. By the way IF you do manage to use the childcare ( the child must wear socks, no food or milk is to be brought into childcare space - this including formula and breast milk). And they do not change diapers.
Not impressed with the Management at all, the staff is really nice usually. Need to make an appointment a couple of days in advance to talk to the Manager, he doesn't return phone calls either.
Nice looking pool, though it seems like it hasn't been cleaned since they opened lots of mold around the edges. The hallways to the pool are freezing as is the family changing room. The floor is very slippery.
I know at least 6 other women who canceled their membership after having a baby as the management was just not willing to be a bit flexible. They want you to be on hold (this will only cost 15 a month to not use the gym). As babies must be over 3 months to use childcare. Then the real fun starts when you try to come back!
All this for 63 dollars a month! Bailey's is 19.99 with free childcare for 26 a month I am going to look into switching!
They claim to be very family friendly the only time that there is a family swim is 4-7 on Sundays, it is always crowded and it is dinner time! The family changing room is always much colder then the pool area.
Other then that really nice gym great for singles or those who don't need childcare! -

I am only giving 2 stars because like another poster said elsewhere, their cancellation tactics suck.
I DO love the gym. The pool is beautiful. Everything is clean. Plenty of towels, though not the highest quality. I've never had to wait for machines but I'm lucky to be able to go during the day, at non-busy times.
But, I found out I have to move, so I will need to cancel my membership, which is paid in full. I've tried to see the manager in person and call on the phone, and he is never available. I know I will not get any of my money back. The chase is on.
This, and the pricing policies, are the reasons I avoided gym membership for so long. Ballys was equally bad. When I joined, I asked if they could waive the joining fee or anything, and was told no. Not two months later, they're running specials in July, where you get a month of free membership or waive the signing fee. I was paying CASH and they did nothing to entice me.
Before joining, I wasn't even given a courtesy 1 or 2 day pass. All the other gyms I looked at offered anywhere from a 3-7 day pass.
Frankly, I only chose them because I need aquatic therapy and most clubs do not have a pool. I love the facility but not their customer relations. -
Review from Anna W.
I joined recently, and this place is amazing!! I cannot say enough good things about it. It is three floors of gym heaven. The locker rooms and pool are on the first floor, most of the machines as well as the basketball court are on the second floor and the freeweights, yoga studio, spinning studio, etc. are on the top floor.
There is free towel service, and the locker rooms are very nice. They provide you with all toiletries that you need as well as hairdryers, etc. The shower stalls are roomy as well.
I haven't been to a class yet, because I joined recently, but there is a decent selection of classes. I kinda wish they offered more -- there doesn't seem to be enough classes to accommodate the number of members there. I don't have kids, but there is also a daycare-type service there. On weekends, I see it jam-packed with kids!
I try to work out when it is not very busy there (late at night), so I am not sure how packed it gets during peak hours. But, I am always there after 8pm, and I never have to wait for a machine. Also, if you have a Gold membership, you can work out at any BSC location during off-peak hours (check their website for when off-peak hours are).
The staff is very nice. They are walking around and available if you have any questions. I am somewhat of a gym novice and don't know how to use all the machines because they are different from what I am used to, and the trainers were kind enough to help me.
If you are thinking about joining, the fees are pretty steep -- currently, it's $60/month for the membership (that's with a one-year contract) and the initiation fee is something like $80. Here is a tip -- check out CraigsList and do a search for "BSC" in the "sale" section. There are always people looking to transfer their membership. I found someone and took over her contract. I pay her rate of $49/month and she paid the $39 transfer fee for me. -

This place is a palace. Everything is new and shiny (even the staff!), and I've never had to wait long to get on a machine or bench.
But wait there's more ...
Towel service in the locker rooms, clean showers w/ shampoo 'n' soap, a really nice (and not overly chlorinated) pool, and a sauna that isn't inhabited by creepy guys who wanna look at your ...
I got in as a charter member for $50/month. I was paying a lot less somewhere else, but this is totally worth it.
Join this gym, and don't look back .... -
Review from Colleen M.
Revere, MA
I am so, so happy with the BSC! I joined in January (resolution, of course), and it's the first time that I've been comfortable enough with a gym to stick to a regular routine. I elected to pay a little bit more in order to get a better gym experience, and it's been worth it - I was afraid of getting a Jersey Shore overtanned meathead experience at some of the cheaper local gyms. I think I definitely made the right call. I feel really comfortable here - the bulk of the crowd seems to be working professionals, 20s-40s. For the most part, everyone does their own thing - very little distraction.
The locker room is clean and well-lit. The cardio machines and the free weights are on separate floors, which is great. I'm a cardio girl, and I love how the machines are laid out - there are huge windows, good lighting, and while there are a lot of machines, I never feel like I'm working out right on top of someone else. That said, even though there are a lot of machines, it gets CROWDED here during the post-work rush. Patience and flexibility is key if you're working out between 5:30-6:30. Haven't taken any classes yet, but there's a good variety to choose from (cardio, yoga, spinning, and pool-based classes).
Parking is free for 2.5 hours in the Wellington Circle garage, which is a huge benefit, in my opinion. It's great to be able to park, work out, and run errands - super convenient.
My one complaint, and its a minor one, has to do with the staff. On a few occasions, the trainers' conversations have gotten loud and distracting, which can be irritating. There's one trainer in particular who tends to cause a scene during his shift, and some of his comments are borderline inappropriate. When I'm on a machine in his earshot, I just turn up my iPod, but I'm really not a fan of his attitude. It's too bad, because aside from this negative, I'd give this place 5 stars. -

I pre-joined this gym without even stepping foot inside.
They were offering charter memberships for $49/month (yes, seriously!).
Yesterday my boyfriend and I went for a tour, and the place is beautiful. It's so nice to see a gym that isn't filled with broken equipment. Yes, I realize it hasn't opened yet, but still, it was a nice site!
The layout is great with a pool and locker rooms on the first floor, cardio and classes on the second, and a weight room on the third.
I am still in shock about the great rate I got. The gym opens on Dec 28th and I can't wait to start going. I'll be starting my New Year's resolution a couple days early. And this year I'll be sticking to it!
UPDATE: I've gone to the gym three times since it opened at it's been great. The class schedule is pretty good (I'm hoping the expand it) and the instructors are great. For once I can actually see myself sticking to a gym schedule! -

What a beautiful gym! The place is huge and the equipment is top-notch. Of course, you would expect that from a gym built less than a year ago. BSC memberships tend to be expensive, but this gym is still offering a discounted rate while it's building membership.
I haven't been impressed with any of the classes I've taken so far. I'm not sure what the criteria is to be an instructor for a BSC class, but they don't seem to set the bar that high. Regardless, the classes are free and fun, and a great option if you need other people to help inspire a good workout.
I'd like to see how well the staff maintains the building and equipment as it gets old and more people join the gym. But for now, it's a great place to work out at a great value. -
Review from Masha B.
I'd probably give this place 5 stars if I went more frequently.... but that's my own fault for not being motivated.... but I AM going tonight after work, dammit!
Anyway, I was used to the simplicity of Planet Fitness. Perhaps simplicity is too eloquent of a word to use to describe that establishment.. but that's besides the point.
My boyfriend goes to this gym and he encouraged me to get a membership as well. Luckily, the membership fee was waived for me as one of my good friends allowed me to transfer his membership to my name since he never used it- so that was a plus.
Walking in I was blown away. I have never been to any other BSC locations so I can't really compare but uh... compared to Planet Fitness for example this place is a palace.
The first floor is the pool and lockers. The pool is so enticing. Usually I forget my bathing suit but seriously the pool is great- it is clean and refreshing and huge and often you get the whole pool to yourself or at least only shared with a few other people. Plus there's also a sauna! I will admit that I never used a sauna prior to going to BSC.. I know... but I am now hooked!
The women's locker rooms are pristine and clean and huge and complete with shampoo (generic but it smells really good!), clean towels and hair dryers if you need them.
Second floor is cardio and some weights... there are so many options. I also love how the treadmills have tvs right on them so you can pick whatever you want to watch!
Oh, there's a basketball court too which is great! Although I'll admit my boyfriend uses it more than me.
I just recommend actually making use of your membership otherwise that's $60 out the window every month for no reason... I learned this the hard way due to my laziness... I mean lack of time.
Also parking is really convenient- right in the parking garage next door, for free as long as you validate your parking ticket at the gym! -
Review from Mark W.
Boston, MA
I'm giving it three stars, as I have seen better. But this isn't that bad. I've also seen worse, but for the price I expect a very clean gym. I've been with BSC (and their predecessors) for 10 yrs. I switched to this one when it opened a few years ago. The gym's layout is great, they have a nice pool, and cardio, free weights and studios on the 2nd and 3rd floor. I've never had issues with the staff....they've been friendly and reasonable. The classes (spin, yoga, are great).....the Station Landing development is also nice and most of the members are good. My quam is that the cleanliness can be inconsistent. You'll see the backing peeling off the stairs and regular maintenance seems to be deferred at times. The equipment is dirty and hasn't been wiped down.... The free towels are nice, but sometimes I wonder how clean they are....some are getting old and gringy. The people that clean do try but I think after a few years of being open that they need to do a deep cleaning....specifically in the locker rooms. Many of the showers don't work.....sometimes you get a trickle and sometimes you don't get any hot water.....

One of the best BSC gyms in Boston.
After previously belonging to Ballys and then Golds. (I visited just about every Golds gym in the Northeast and various locations around the world) I became a sort of 'Gym Snob' and demanded things such as personal Tvs on cardio equipment and clean changing areas.
Other BSCs in boston can feel cramped- This location is very spaced out with high ceilings. It also has parking and a juice/shake bar. -
Review from Brian I.
Boulder, CO
Really solid gym. My wife and I signed up in Aug 08 for $59/month/person. A family discount would have been nice, but when choosing a gym, look more closely at VALUE than price.
Location is critical. For us, it was across the street. This is huge on cold, rainy mornings, of which Boston has plenty. If it takes considerable effort - you just won't go as much.
The "inviting" factor is next. Is it clean? Is the equipment nice? Is it bright inside? A place you want to spend several hours a week? I can honestly answer "yes" to all of the above for BSC Wellington.
The staff is professional, and the instructors awesome. I really enjoyed the cycling/spinning classes at 5:45am. I can't comment on others, because I never tried them.
Town Sports are game changers in the gym business in my opinion. Everything is clearly articulated, they keep their promises, the contract is fair and customer-friendly. When we moved away, they cancelled our contract on-the-spot with no additional overhead. No "gotcha" clauses. Seems like an obvious way to do business, but I have been badly burned in the past by gyms in NJ and MD which were intent on keeping my money and NOT keeping their promises.
If this gym is convenient to you, I highly recommend it. It is a tremendous value for the busy professional person who has high standards for a gym. -

I thoroughly enjoyed belonging to the BSC in Medford/Wellington T station. I joined in June 08, when the place was pretty much brand new and kept my membership for a year. it was pretty expensive at around $60 a month.
Here are some huge positives:
1) it's clean -- they have people wiping down machines every five seconds, which is great in this world of swine flu
2) plenty of machines -- very rarely did I ever have an issue getting a machine except during peak hours (right after work, around new years, etc.)
3) has a pool -- this is partly why I joined, but it was always crowded when I tried to go
negatives:
1) price
2) GETTING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. This Wellington T Station/Station Landing area is a HORRIBLE intersection to get in/out of. This has nothing to do with the BSC, but it is SUCH a pain to get into the parking lot of the gym. Getting out is not so hard, but it was an excuse for me NOT to go to the gym which is bad.
Overall, 4 Stars because it was a great gym. Minus 1 star for the price.Listed in: Working on my Fitness

Definitely a good gym.
I joined this gym in January '09 and am paying a monthly rate of $59.00 ...I know it's a lot more now so that kinda sucks...
+ = pros
- = cons
+ the gym is new
+ there's a decent amount of equipment
+ plenty of towels
+ gym doesn't smell
+ locker room is nice, clean and large. good size lockers.
+ staff is friendly and knowledgeable
+ good amount of classes
+ the members aren't too too sketchy looking
+ they've got a pool and basketball court
+ nice little juice bar
+ parking garage
+ biggest BSC i've ever been to
+ in a good location
+ beautiful gym
+ special offers sometimes ie. joining fee waiver, try-pack for personal training etc.
- expensive ...sign up fee... wtf.
- can definitely be crowded ...(i've had to wait to use my fav ab machine and pull up machine)
- most of the staff are nice..some are just plain sketchballs (i won't name em...)
as you can see, the pros outweigh the cons.
best gym in medford, ma in my opinion. -

Somerville, MA
I like this gym. It's pretty, and it makes me want to do things that are completely out of character... like work out. Everything feels very new and clean. Can't emphasize "clean" enough... see my upcoming review of BSC Lexington. It's also really big:
1st floor - pool and locker rooms
2nd floor - cardio machines and group classrooms
3rd floor - weight training and group classrooms
My only gripe is the free weights area - on the second floor there is a tiny little area that is always reserved during peak hours for personal training. There is an entire 3rd floor area for free weights and weight machines, but it's kind of meathead / douchebag heaven, so I always feel a little weird doing my girlie little 7.5 lb triceps kickbacks up there.
They have plenty of accessible parking (the garage is free for BSC members and immediately adjacent to the gym, so just go there rather than hunting around for a spot in the parking lot). And the little slice of yuppie heaven that is Wellington Circle is very pleasant - you can hit the gym first thing on a Saturday, get your hair or nails done, and enjoy a little Cold Stone Creamery on the way out. Because what's a visit to the gym without a little ice cream? -
Review from Kim K.
Spacious, clean, nice staff, convenient location. The additional perks of the pool, the basketball courts, and validated parking set this BSC apart from the rest. There is plenty of space to get your workout done, the clientele here is really laid back, and the space itself it pleasant to be in (as pleasant as being in the gym can be).
I opted to make this my home gym (for $59) over the Davis Square BSC ($74) when I realized it was just as close and more convenient to my lifestyle. -

Really solid gym. Both this one and the one in central sq. are full of quality trainers and employees. Everything is clean, well laid out, and the one in Station landing also has a very nice pool and a couple of good exercise rooms. They serve my purposes precisely and are priced quite reasonably.

This is the most amazing gym I've ever been to. Three immense floors, complete with a swimming pool, basketball court (with scoreboard), numerous fitness classrooms and personal training areas. The machines are new and state of the art, the staff is friendly and accessible, and they even put a smoothie bar in the lobby.
Every single thing about this place, from the color schemes to the layout of the equipment, is perfect. I have been to BSCs all over the area, and this one wins. Far and away, and without a close second. -
Review from Terry C.
My friend belongs to this gym and she really wanted me to try some classes so we decided to go yesterday. First thing I would complain about is this gym does not offer any free 1-day pass, 1-class visit, etc. But my friend really Love the classes so I decided to sign up for the 2-week trial for $19.99. If she wanted to bring a friend for a day, it is $15!
I filled in all my papers online and presented a pass at the door. I had to wait about 5 minutes before this guy walks out to check me in. My thought is this guy should welcome me and show me around, right? But instead, it was "Hi, how are you?...so are you just thinking of doing this for 2 weeks or you might buy a membership..." and from then on, i was not thrill. He kept pushing the membership on me even when I told him I've never been to this gym before and will definitely have to take a tour & a class before i decide.
Also as an FYI, as of 1/6 - the monthly price is $62/month.
Anyways...
The gym itself is nice. It is pretty big with a pool, lots of machines, a few studio for classes. The gym is new, well-lit with parking. The locker room was very clean and the shower had the usual shampoo/conditioner/body wash which was nice.
I took the power yoga class and liked it a lot. I will definitely try to maximize my two week trial by going back to a lot of the classes. -

I went to rejoin BSC (formally being in BB) at Wellington Cir but found out charter means "only here" basically. Great deal but I'm around and about allot with work and all so I need access to everything.
SO, eagerly awaiting the opening of this baby-I rejoined Copley on a full membership (not that much more) and that would give me work/home access-sweet right? Well today I went to work out in this 3 story behemoth and to my delight I was in my ultimate workout ecstasy. Took a bit to navigate but I'm SO psyched for this spot. I literally can't remember the last time I didn't want to leave the gym-helluva workout!
It's all new-so how could you go wrong? A few glitches; paper towels for cleaning, extra weights to add to the machines (but they are prob in the mail) I superset so they are important to me - but I'll live for now.
Most importantly-there is plenty of room for chick free weight working out-we are not shoved into the corner like most BSCs. I LOVE it. I don't want to play with the big boys, but I don't mind it. Just give me my assorted free weights at my leisure and I'm happy...but to give me AMPLE space-god luv ya. I have a new best friend-BSC Wellington. Damn I'm gonna be leaving work earlier and earlier cause I think I prefer it here to Copley.
BTW-every goddamn person working there is cute and extremely helpful! Thanks guys for a job well done! Can't wait to try a class! -

This gym is AMAZING. I joined before it technically opened and have been going every day during my lunch break! They are still offering their charter memberships (i think) so its only $49.99, and you seriously cant beat that deal!
Everything is brand new...which is awesome. All the cardio machines have their own tvs attached-- with direct tv!
the staff is very friendly an knowledgeable...
i cant say enough nice things about it! -

This gym is a fitness palace. I absolutely love it.
Everything is new and they have a lot of cardio machines, which is a definite must for me. Plus, there are three floors - a pool on the first floor, cardio/weight machines on the second, and a more hardcore weight room on the third. I never make it up there, but eventually, I'll have to try it out. -

this is my primary bsc. i like it, mainly because it has a pool but many things need to change.
first off, the pool water is downright disgusting at times. the pool water needs to be tested in multiple areas to get an accurate reading, i've never seen them take readings in more than 1 area (the water closest to the testing kit).
the water is borderline green at times, they have kids sessions and elderly sessions there.. all that means is piss central. water needs a TON more chlorine. they also need to drain and refill that pool once a year. keeping the same water in there all that time is just not right. we have a pool at my work and it's been drained and cleaned twice this year already.
the locker rooms are ok, not clean like the fenway location.
the worst part is the spin classes, ros is the only good (great) spin instructor. i seriously wonder if the others even ride bikes in real life. the most annoying part is that you have to make a reservation but they always have 2-3 broken bikes, so reservation does not guarantee a spot in the class.
otherwise it's a decent gym, it's huge and you usually don't have to wait for equipment. -

I joined this gym before they even opened after taking a quick tour and learning about their 49$ charter rate!!!! It is a beautiful gym with all brand new equipment and a very friendly stafff!!! I would definately reccomend it to anyone who is iffy on joining a gym because this place will defaintely motivate you to go!!! I have also started personal training with Chad and it is amazing!! After 3 full one hour sessions, as well as the effort on my own, I really can already see results!
UPDATE***: Last night I tried the BOOT CAMP class and it was awesome! I was surprised to see that no one else on here has reviewed any classes so as I try them I will review them. Boot camp consisted on jumping squats, jump rope, a lot of arms and shoulder work, push ups, abs, and mountain climbers.... you definately will feel yourself working hard in this interval style training!
UPDATE*** Tuesday night I tried Spinning and it was awesome!! I think the instructors name was Kim... she was very good and definately made the class challenging. I used to be a big spinning buff when I belonged to Ballys in downtown crossing, and this class definately pushed me to get back into it. Good music too!! I HAVE NOW BEEN TO MULTIPLE SPINNING CLASSES WITH BOTH NICOLE AND KIM AND THEY ARE BOTH AMAZING!! DO SPIN AT BSC! -

I've been a member of BSC at Wellington since it opened. I've never been a member of any gym before and have never worked out at a gym so I don't have any comparison. But I can say that BSC makes me want to work out. It's clean and it doesn't smell like sweat socks. The locker rooms are clean and stocked with towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hair dryers.
I love the classes; there's lots of variety in the classes and times. I love Dayna's water aerobics class (MW at 1215) and the Saturday gentle yoga. All of the classes are taught have great instructors and they really push you without being obnoxious.
The workout area with machines and weights are clean and well lit. There are always people cleaning and most people wipe down the machines after they use them. There is a pretty good selection of machines, but there sometimes is a wait right after work.
My only complaint is the price; it's a little high and there is a sign-up fee. I was also supposed to be locked in to my price, but it keeps going up. I inquired about it and they told me the monthly fee did not go up, but the transaction fee increased. WTF? But I think it's still worth it. -

For some reason, gyms have billing practices that are a total bummer. About a month ago I was charged $500+ for personal training that I never signed up for. Long story short, I was on the phone with both the gym and the corporate offices for a month, had to enlist my boyfriend to help me because I felt like I was getting no where, and it still took a month before I was credited the amount. It was not a good time...I am not in a financial situation where $500 is not a big deal to me. I did get a free month out of this and a few free personal training sessions. I know mistakes happen so I'm hoping this doesn't happen again. Just keep an eye on your automatic debit. The actual gym is awesome, great facilities, etc., billing just needs work.

I've been going to this gym since they opened and I'm pretty happy with it. This place can get really busy during peak hours but I usually don't have to wait too long for cardio machines. The locker room is super clean as well as the rest of the gym.
There are barbells constantly missing from the rack which is annoying if you are like me, female, and gravitate towards the under 20 pounders. There is also a section on the second floor that is closed to members during peek hours. This is by far my biggest gripe since upstairs is populated with a bunch of yeah dude meatheads. I'm sick of hearing "How many sets you have left". We are all paying to use the gym so ALL areas should be accessible to ALL members.
I haven't used the pool yet but it looks really clean and it's not too crowded.
Most of the classes are ok but I'm not to keen on the yoga classes. I love Spinning but there are only 3.. sometimes 4 good instructors. One of them is terrible so I don't even bother going. Overall the classes are decent but I do go to the Davis Sq. BSC on the weekends because there classes are much better.
The hours are convenient and the passport option during off peak hours are super convenient. -

I really like this gym. I usually go weeknights and use the pool and I have to say it's really nice. The locker room is really clean and there are always fresh towels, even late at night, which is usually when I'm there. You can park in the parking garage next door for free for up to two hours which is great. It is also really close to the orange line. It isn't something fancy, but it's a solid place to work out. I haven't tried their gym equipment yet, but I am planning on it soon.

I love this gym. The classes are great and have been very effective! The front desk staff is always friendly and cleanliness is clearly a top priority in the locker rooms. The 730 Tuesday sports circuit training class is great and the gentleman who teaches it is also a great personal trainer! The 630 Thursday kickboxing and any of the yoga classes with Chris are great, as well. Patricia's pilates/yoga sculpt classes are AMAZING but only offered weekday mornings (bummer I'm usually at work) but if you have a schedule that allows you to attend these classes, I HIGHLY recommend it!! This gym is well worth the $60/month :)

I have never loved a gym before this one.
The downside is the price ($63/month). That's all, there's nothing else wrong with it.
Is ambience important in a gym? Some would say no.. that you should just go and work out and it's the same no matter what it looks like. The thing is, at least with me, when it comes to the gym it's so hard sometimes to force myself to get off my lazy ass and go that it definitely helps by being a place you actually enjoy being inside of.
+Free parking in the garage next door if you leave within 2 1/2 hours (and trust me, I feel so comfortable in this gym I've stayed beyond that allotted time more than once).
+Daycare service, if needed. The kids seem to smile a lot in there.
+Free towel service, shampoo/conditioner/soap in the showers, hairdryers, separate changing room that isn't a bathroom stall if you're modest.
+Large showers. There are few things more disgusting to me than being so cramped in a stall that you accidentally graze your naked ass against the cold, scummy wall.
+Welcoming/Knowledgeable trainers. I feel like if I dropped to the ground unconscious, they'd know what to do. They are not just high schoolers in their first jobs. For being such a large gym, I initially worried that I'd get lost in the shuffle and it wouldn't feel personal, but honestly even after not going for a few straight months, I'll walk in and the same trainer will address be my name and talk to me.
+personal TVs on all cardio machines, trainers available constantly to help you with how to use any piece of equipment
+I have done every single class they offer and was only disappointed a very few times (I don't like one certain spin instructor, ppl that don't reserve for spin classes but take the spots anyway, tai chi class just isn't enough of a workout for me, zumba is sometimes overly crowded making it difficult to do the steps).
+the only thing good about the price = it keeps annoying teenagers out.
- the price. You think if you pay more you'll be more inclined to go... not true. You'll just feel doubly worse when you don't, becoming both fat AND poor.
- the top floor area of free weights, but this is the same deal with any gym and not entirely the gym's fault. It's just full of grunting meatheads that stare at women if they enter. I'm afraid I'll get pissed on by some jock marking his territory.
-Those half hour long classes from 5pm - 5:30 (with the exception of the abdominals class, which is A+) are usually taught by an uninterested trainer who is required to be there and would rather not.
+/- Juice bar right inside that looks nice but I honestly haven't tried and can't vouch for.
+/- Sauna... I've gone in a couple times but not enough to have formed an opinion. Seriously, though, what's the proper etiquette in there? Are we supposed to be naked?
Dear BSC Wellington, PLEASE BRING BACK BUDOKON CLASS!! it. was. the. best. -

I believe this is the newest gym for BSC in the area. It's modern & sleek. I've belonged to the BSC for a little over 2 years, visit many locations in the area regularly, & choose to pay their rediculously over-priced rates for the multiple locations, swimming pools, sauna, late & early hours, towel service, locker rooms, clean facilities, & supplied ammenities (soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers). These clubs are very comfortable & feel like home to me (in the off hours). It seems that each location has its pluses & minuses. Although it's certainly not necessary, this is the only location where no one at the front desk tells me to have a good workout when entering & to have a good night when I leave. Last night, when I got to the locker room I realized I out of habit walked right in--& no one noticed or tried to stop me! Based on the newness of the club, I'm surprised at how poorly it's maintained. The womens locker room has some cracked caulk & mold in the grout of the showers. The tile floor always has a slippery gel-like layer of gunk on it that makes you go EEWW every time you touch it. (please note, I have not found this to be the case in other BSC locations-the others seem to have housekeeping staff assigned to them whom do nothing but clean, clean, clean...& they're great at it & very friendly). I believe this may stem from poor material choice. Probably chosen for modern looks over function. And be careful, the pool decks at this location are the slippery-est I've seen as well--again, poor material choice. That being said, the pool is clean, I enjoy the Aqua Circuit classes, & like lap swim & cardio equipment during off hours when there is space. I love that the BSC offers kickboards & pull bouys. Wellington has just started to offer a SwimFit class-looks like a light masters swim--that looks very promising!
